Matthew Ward

Matthew Ward is a writer, cat-servant and owner of more musical instruments than he can actually play (and considerably more than he can play well). He’s afflicted with an obsession for old places – castles, historic cities and the London Underground chief amongst them – and should probably cultivate more interests to help expand out his author biography.

After a decade serving as a principal architect for Games Workshop’s Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 properties, Matthew embarked on an adventure to tell stories set in worlds of his own design. He lives near Nottingham with his extremely patient wife – as well as a pride of attention-seeking cats – and writes to entertain anyone who feels there’s not enough magic in the world.

This book provides the rules and scenarios to play the events that happen at the very end of The Return of the King. With these events not being shown in the movies (and them being pretty cool in the actual book), I've always liked the idea of playing through them. If you're a fan at all of LOTR SBG, I think you will find it hard not to be inspired by the writing and images in the book. There are a few painting guides (which are outdated to modern Citadel paints) and some great and relatively easy looking guides for making terrain, including hobbit holes. The amount of terrain and minis you need to play all of the scenarios is large but not overwhelming and the campaign of scenarios will help you build it up over time because the model count starts off pretty low and slowly builds. I'm looking forward playing these scenarios in the nearish future and that ultimately is what a book like this should make you want to do.
