You’re cordially invited to attend this year’s spring break retreat at The Lodge. It’s a highly exclusive experience guaranteed to redefine your future. Assuming you survive.
Sydney I thought it was a joke. Some pompous high society game meant to play with the children of the elite. But then people started dying. Including the one who invited me to attend.
Now I’m the one they all suspect. Because I have blood on my hands. Their blood.
Kage The pretty little pawn isn’t supposed to be here. She’s unique. Not one of them. A potential prize I may take for myself. But only if she learns how to properly play this game.
The terms are simple: Truth or Kill? Mmm, I hope she picks kill. Because she’ll look stunning in red.
Welcome to the darkness, my little black rose. Blood is your new currency. And it’s time to pay the price.
Bloody loved this I literally couldn’t put it down I was that invested in the outcome. This is by one of my favourite auto-buy authors just using an alternate pen name genre wise its romantic suspense with some dark undertones. it’s part of the twisted legends collection and based around a popular urban legend Kill Switch.
Sydney after accepting an invitation to stay at an exclusive lodge by her classmate Becca finds herself plunged headfirst into the privileged world of the elite and finds herself being used as an innocent pawn in this game of Truth or Kill. She’s basically expendable and could easily become collateral damage. Sydney’s only option and way out of this now is to play the game through till its eventual conclusion and just hope she survives the whole experience. Her only apparent ally is lodge employee Gage who she’s immediately drawn to but it soon becomes apparent he has his own agenda and secret's ones that might just get Sydney killed.
This is told from dual POV Sydney and Gage’s and it's packed full of mind games and misdirection. Sydney is obviously an expendable pawn which means she needs to play this smart. I loved the developed dynamic between Gage and Sydney there chemistry together was totally electric and the intimate scenes were red hot. Gage likes it rough and is definitely far from vanilla and Sydney is more than able to match him these two just fit. Sydney also needs to prove herself and Gage is rooting for her all the way and despite not having all of the answers Sydney passes his numerous tests with flying colours.
This had a dark sinister undertone that left me feeling like anything could happen it was well written mysterious and very twisty. You were left guessing every step of the way and I was impressed with the imaginative narrative this one certainly felt very fresh and unique.
I liked both Gage and Sydney equally. Gage had this whole mysterious dangerous bad-boy vibe he’s one who isn’t afraid to push things outside of the box and is prepared to do whatever he needs to accomplish his end goals even if that means Sydney may just have to be sacrificed to achieve them. He has an agenda one he has been working towards for years and nothing can stand in its way. He’s not really a hero more of a furious avenging tornado with a specific end game but he also can’t help falling for Sydney in every single way she’s the spanner he just wasn’t anticipating. Sydney well she’s a total badass and doesn’t take crap from anyone including Gage. I loved how she evolved throughout the course of this and then stood by her man regardless there goals aligned his truths became hers.
This was fabulous and I definitely recommend reading it if you like romantic suspense this literally had me on the edge of my seat throughout and I really enjoyed myself totally impressed with this original concept. I voluntary reviewed a copy of Truth or Kill (Twisted legends Collection #2)
Now this book I enjoyed it could have been a 4 star for me but the ending and the Hero made me take some stars off.
Sydney thinks she going to a cabin in the woods enjoying the out doors with some classmates which is sorta not true she at a lodge with a bunch of rich heirs playing a wired game of Truth or Kill. She has no clue why she has to play she isn't rich or cares about their secerts. She also attracted to Kage a "worker" there who is also has a hidden agenda. There is murder and more secerts are coming out of this game. And these rich pricks are pointing there finger at Sydney since shes not rich and a pawn. But the more she spends with Kage rhe more she learns about those rich pricks. And I loved her she was great she listened learned and wasn't annoying.
As for kage I liked him.. he could of been a book boyfriend BUT he wasn't alpha enough for me he let his woman get hit many times and did nothing because the plan.. naw I needed him to handle Landon when he choked Syd and hit her. He lost points for that. He also lost points when the game was over and waited 6 weeks to get her. Yes he said he wanted her to finish school and was watching via cameras l. He could have showed up sooner or TOLD HER that. SO yeah he lost me with that.

Truth or Kill is a part of a series of books based on urban legends. Sydney, a college senior, is invited to a vacation stay at a private lodge by her volleyball teammate. She’s not particularly close with this teammate but she jumps at the chance to relax and try to figure out her future plans. She’s a computer programmer who really has no clue what she wants to do after graduation. When she arrives at the lodge, she finds that the guests are all the “heirs” to a huge company. They are attending a retreat that will help them bond together and create stronger partnerships between the stakeholder families who run this major corporation. Sydney is clearly not one of them and she feels immediately out of place. She is, however, drawn to one of the lodge’s employees, Kage. But is he who he says he is? And why would Sydney be invited to this odd corporate retreat in the first place?
I had to think long and hard about this one. I wavered back and forth between two and three stars. I finish pretty much everything I start reading so that didn’t help me come to a conclusion. I had to weigh the author’s abilities with the story line and I eventually came up with only giving two stars.
First, A.C. Cramer has some skill to be sure. There’s a great deal of description, even for things other contemporary authors would probably gloss over. For instance, Cramer takes the time to describe an animated sequence for a company logo. It wasn’t necessary for the flow of the narrative but it did give ambiance. The description is probably the biggest sell here because it allows for us to discern one character from another, to develop the setting and mood, and to give more depth to the action sequences. The description is key to the tension and mystery needed for the characters to have any kind of arc.
Here’s where I falter a bit. The characters are over the top and unrealistic. Sydney is an idiot. She makes insane decisions. If she’s so smart and gets people so well, she really wouldn’t have gone on the vacation in the first place. The group of antagonists are varied in character. Some are more central to the story while others are more background scenery. They really weren’t all necessary. Cramer could have reduced the number drastically and spent more time developing their characterization, which would have allowed for a more developed conflict. Kage is supposed to be this dark, enigmatic, bad boy. We get to hear the story from his perspective at times, so his twists and turns aren’t as shocking for us but they are for Sydney. Probably would have been better for the mystery if we hadn’t heard from him at all. Cramer tries to make Kage too sympathetic while also trying to maintain this major darkness to him and it just doesn’t work for me. It would have been better to make him dark, mysterious and tortured without the deranged part. It just didn’t hold up.
The twist and mystery were actually pretty good. But Sydney - the main character - got in the way for me. She is useless and unnecessary for that part of the story. Take her out and you have a really good dark mystery and revenge story. The “romance” was just awful and a terrible distraction. In the end, that’s probably why I gave it two stars. The romance should blend and highlight the rest of the plot. There’s just too much going on for it all to work. Sadly, I really liked parts but the rest left a bad impression that I can’t shake.
I absolutely loved this book, I loved the unique plot and the murder mystery with cluedo vibes! I was intrigued the moment Sydney arrived at The Lodge, from her first interaction with Kage I knew things were not going to be plain sailing.
Kage was intense, dark, captivating and possessive. Sydney was alluring, sarcastic, sassy and absolutely devoid of any filter, and Kage’s match in every way.
This book was based on the urban legend game of Killswitch and I was here for it! I loved Kage and Sydney together, they just clicked. He was unapologetically himself and Syd welcomed him with open arms. I really hope we get to see more from Judge and Loki in their own books. Definitely recommend one clicking
I think I went into this book expecting more twists and turns. Nothing that happened was particularly shocking or surprising to me. Now perhaps I’m just a great guesser which is a possibility but I wanted a good plot twist from this and I just didn’t get it. The book was still entertaining in its own right however. There was some steam, some suspense and overall it was entertaining.
•○● Her freedom and mental reverie… those are for her. A place for her to hide and just feel. An illusion of liberation. A release from our harsh reality. ●○• KAGE S.317
Was ich wirklich schade fand.

Wow!!! This book is brilliant!!! Deviously delicious and dark- I love A.C Kramer (and her alter-ego) sooooooo sooooooo much!!! Truth Or Kill is the second book in the Twisted Legends Collection by A.C. Kramer. Twisted Legends is a collaboration by 10 talented authors who each bring you their own twisted and reimaged take of a famous urban legend. Each book is a standalone- but after reading ‘Truth Or Kill’, I am hooked on the theme and can’t wait to explore the rest of the series to see what twisted delights the other authors have produced. For Truth Or Kill, Ms. Kramer has used the urban legend of “Killswitch”- about a videogame that self-destructs. And let me tell you- it made for a riveting read! What we get is an addictive romantic suspense about a quest for vengeance while revealing some dark truths using a ‘game’ as a means to that end. We join some college students on a retreat at a wilderness lodge during spring break. Without giving too much away and spoiling the story for you, the characters soon find themselves swept into a deadly game where the stakes are much higher than they realise. Not everything is as it seems. We ride along on this dark adventure as things turn deadly! And Wow! I love every single second!!! The twist and turns were quite clever and the whole story was really well thought out, creative, and so well executed! I am really hoping that we might get another couple of books from A.C. Kramer that follow on from “Truth Or Kill” – because I seriously need Judge, and Loki’s stories too. Hint, Hint! Pretty, pretty please Ms. Kramer…. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a riveting story with a bit of a dark and mysterious feel, steaming hot chemistry, and cleverly twisted reimaginings!!! Happy Reading!
Four and 1/2 stars for this book. This is book one in the Twisted Legends Collection by A.C. Kramer. I had not read this author before, but will be checking out more books by her in the future. This is a dark, dangerous and spicy romance, but the romance isn't the main theme in the story. There's a dangerous "game" being played here, during spring break at a cabin retreat, with all of the heirs to a corporation in attendance. They all think they've arrived here for team "bonding", etc. for a week with their peers, and that their parents are well aware and approve. This is so far from the case, it isn't even funny. These attendees are on the cusp of graduating college, and are, for the most part, morally bankrupt and corrupt, even at such a young age.
The FMC, Sidney, was invited to this retreat last minute by an old acquaintance, Becca, who IS an heir to the corporate legacy someday. Sidney has no family and had no plans for Spring Break, so she reluctantly decided to attend as Becca's Plus One. She has an immediate attraction to the guy who works at the check-in desk, Kage (the MMC).
Sidney doesn't have anything to do with the corporation, but everyone insists that she attend the first "game" meeting anyway. She is completely shaken by the events.
Soon she will find out WHY she was invited, and that NOTHING is as it seems......
I just read ‘Truth or Kill,’ by A.C. Kramer (pen name for Lexi C. Foss!) and it was absolutely FANTASTIC 🤩! (FYI, I’m not affiliated with the author and there are NO spoilers! 🙌🏻)
So this book starts off with a FMC who is in her senior year of college 🏢 and is asked to go with her volleyball 🏐 teammate to a cabin 🏡 in the woods 🌳 for spring break ☀️👙🏝! Little does she know, that the objective for the trip isn’t what it seems… and instead… it’s a game of TRUTH 😇 or K!LL 🔪🩸! Something that is actually modeled off of a Urban Legend knows as K!LLSWITCH! She’s quickly thrown into a game that she definitely DOES NOT want to be involved with, to only run into a DARK & BROODY MMC that is equally torn between ending her 🔪 and dominating her (if you know what I mean 🥵🥵🥵!)
Honestly, this plotline is much more advanced then the summary above 👏🏻! It is pretty smart 💡and I actually had an “oh dang that is GENIUS 🧠” moment where yep, I ended up msging the author (isn’t it COOL 😎 how accessible authors are these days due to social media?!!)… anyway, I ended up messaging the author, who then told me she had that “AHA” moment while making a salad 🥗 in the kitchen & she blurted the idea 💡 out to the hubs excitedly! So freaking cool 🙌🏻!! Well, I get the excitement… because it IS SMART 👏🏻! The whole book is pretty dang SMART 🥳! It’s like reading an adaptation of CLUE 🕵️♀️ combined with a little dark romance 💘 … a bit of Zade vibes from Haunting Adeline 👻 actually! (errr may have some Zade-like bedroom play!) And the FMC was GREAT 👍🏻 throughout this book! I liked her the entire time! She was sassy, practical, and we really fell in love with her through the MMC’s green eyes 👀!
This really is a super FAB 🤩 standalone! It’s great as a palette cleanser (or not palette cleanser!) It’s unique, SMART 💡, page-turning, and super fun! The writing ✍️ is good, no plotholes, no typos, and super easy to inhale 🌬 over 24 hours 👏🏻! I’m not sure if there are trigger warnings, but if you aren’t used to darker 🩸steamy 🥵 scenes… just be aware that the MMC is a little dark 🔪! It all just depends on what you are used to! Some may read this and be SHOCKED 😱 and others will think it’s child’s play 😆! But regardless, really recommend you giving it a shot! 🙌🏻
So if you like a MYSTERY 🔎 that feels a little like a “who done it,” with a unique modern spin involving gaming 🎮 & technology 💻, some dark steam 🔥, a grounded & blunt FMC, and a riddle ❓where your trying to figure out what is REALLY going on… give this a shot! It’s free on KU and you never know, it may just be a K!LLER book for you!
Key elements! 🔪 Dark Contemporary/Gothic Romance STANDALONE (excellent palette cleanser for PNR readers!) 🔪 FM 🔪 First Person POV with FMC & MMC POVs 🔪 Streamlined, Modern Writing 🔪 SUPER SMART plotline (almost like a ‘Who Done It? but with a modern twist and mystery) 🔪 Page-Turner (I read in 24 hours!) 🔪 FMC that is grounded & BLUNT 🔪 Starts off with a FMC who is in her senior year of college and is asked to go with her volleyball team mate to a cabin in the woods for spring break! Little does she know, that the objective for the trip isn’t what it seems… and instead… it’s a game of TRUTH or K!LL! 🔪 Does have STEAM but it isn’t extremely graphic or overbearing to the non-romantic plotline (could be considered Dark by some with the type of “play”) 🔪 Author’s BookTok handle: @author_ackramer 🔪 Free on KU 🔪 2nd book in the Twisted Legends Collection (but it’s completely a standalone and you don’t have to read the other books in the collection if you don’t want… although I’m working my way through them & am enjoying them!) 🔪 At the time of writing this, this book only has 288+ ratings of close to 5 stars 🔪 Fans of SMART plotlines where you are trying to solve a riddle and then it all comes together by the end (with STEAM) would love this!
If Stepford Wives and nerve (the movies) has a child with caraval, this is the book!
You know in caraval, the mmc was part of this ‘game’/ circus, and he couldn’t break any of the rules or go out of character? And definitely couldn’t by ANY means fall in love with the prey? Well this book had exactly that too - minus the circus part 😆
There is a secret society full of they liked to call ‘elites’, who are all part of this game called Truth Or Kill which had a morbid vibe to it, and definitely dangerous for its participants who happen to be sorority kids and college students who all took a trip to this lodge for spring break. They are thrown into the deep end by unwillingly taking part in Truth Or Kill. The under-toning message behind it was ‘play the game or 💀’.
Set in a resort harbouring a lodge/ cabin in the woods. Our male protagonist, Kage is in on Truth Or Kill, even being one of its leaders disguised as a member of staff within the resort, but still under some kind of influence from the higher ups.
He’s definitely morally grey, and the pure definition of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Being inside his mind (dual pov) his thoughts were that if a serial killer, and I’ll let you decide on his actions too. 👀
I didn’t mind the female protagonist Sydney, but she didn’t really stand out to me. I would have liked the characters to have a little more depth to them so I could connect to them a little more. I also am not a fan of any romance that isn’t slowburn, I like the tension to be built up over some time, so when they come together it’s explosive. But that’s just a personal preference, if you like medium burn romance you won’t have any problems with it 🥰
The thriller vibes were everything!! This would make such a great movie. There was never a dull moment, the storyline flowed smoothly, and the suspense was top notch. I’d describe the romance as, Cat And Mouse 😏 though maybe the stakes needed to be raised a little higher. Overall, it’s not my favourite book, but it was pretty decent and had a good pretence. I still recommend!
There was just something about this one that connected with me. It's lauded as being an urban legend retelling, and for me, it reminded me of And Then There Were None, when a group of people are brought to a secluded place for reasons other than they believe (in this case, a company training/retreat) instead of the deadly game that will take place. I was drawn in from the very start, and that feeling never left throughout the entire book.
This was the first time reading this author (under this pen name at least) and I love the writing, so will be checking out everything else by her that I can find. It was an audiobook listen for me, and that just enhanced the experience.
Truth or Kill by A.C. Kramer is a standalone dark romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Chloe Ryan and Michael Gallagher. This book is part of the Twisted Legends series.
This is the first book of A.C. Kramer's that I have read, and it won't be my last. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. The loved the chemistry between Kage and Sydney. I really enjoyed getting both of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
Chloe and Michael did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like dark romances, gothic romances, or romantic suspense.
This was a really solid attempt between balancing all sorts of things from romance to mystery to darkness to intrigue. It had a very cool concept and spin on it, but the mystery became obvious halfway through because Kage kept giving away WAY too much (although the vibes were still there when we went back to the mystery parts so kudos for that). Also, a lot of the characters just didn't have the depth or backstory or personalization I needed. To be fair, i'm watching the Residence right now too and that actual mystery element makes me very attuned to that issue. Though... there was a death and then a mystery about finding the killer that was 1000% ignored and forgotten about? It felt like a lot was there but just not fleshed out very well. The romance felt meh. I couldn't discern Kage's intentions, and even though he was supposed to have flipping intentions, it felt very straightforward or gross because he just wanted to have sex with her. I don't know, it was weird. But not bad.
I cannot resist a good dark romance, and this was one that everything rolled all into one. Suspense, murder, lust , and lots of drama. One invite changes it all for Sydney during her Spring Break. What started as a game turns out to be just as it states.. "Truth or Kill." Sydney is alluring, confident, and intelligent. She was very blunt and honest and she was no fool at all during this book. When she meets Kage at the resort its instant that they have a connection. As a team up they begin to play the dangerous game knowing to play is to survive. The more they fight for survival the more they fall for each other in the process. While Sydney may be that wide eyed girl its clear that Kage is as anti-hero as they come. This story was a wild ride that will have you on edge until the end.
While I enjoyed the dark theme/mystery of the book what I didn’t like and found hard to justify is Kage letting Sydney be abused by the other boys. Being slapped, strangled and hurt while he watches or finds out about isn’t cool and destroyed the connection between them for me. Even if it was for the ‘greater good’ of the take over / blackmail.

4.5 STARS ✨ Rounded up to five stars because it was still. . . just. . . wow.
The first thing that comes to mind when reviewing this book, even a couple weeks after reading it is still just: wild. This standalone really was something and I couldn't put it down, I was hooked. I must admit, I downloaded the book on Kindle Unlimited for the plot and absolutely freaked when discovering that A.C. Kramer is Lexi C. Foss' New Adult & Contemporary Romance Pseudonym. I was already excited, but knowing how much I loved Winter and Kazek in Winter's Arrow I knew that I was in for a ride with Sydney and Kage.
Kramer has such a talent. The deadly game that the 'heirs' of Covington Industries is twisted, and the style in which the book is written leaves you feeling as if you are experiencing that 'trippy' sensation of not knowing what is going to come next, even if you do have the perspective of Kage. It's hard to explain, but it is written in a way that you feel completely enthralled, drawn within the pages, enduring Sydney's confusion as the unexpected participant of Truth of Kill. As someone who doesn't usually read thrillers, my head felt like a complete mess afterwards, and that was all down to the literary ability of Kramer/Foss. My head is even spinning now, thinking of the ride.
I would highly recommend this twisted thriller romance where the villain gets the girl. I am totally in my 'villain gets the girl' era right now, and this was a fantastic addition. Please ensure that you look at the trigger warnings prior to reading, because it is dark, but there is a satisfying ending to the spicy, riveting standalone which is easy to switch off and sink into. I cannot praise Kramer enough, the plot and writing were exquisite.
This was my first read by A.C. Kramer. A group of rich people a brought to a retreat in which it turns into a game of exposure of secrets and blackmail. Now this is a game you don't want to join. It sorta has a squid games feel to it. Kage is disguised working on the resort is in partner running the game. He is definitely morally grey. Sydney comes in basically dragged in by her friend but Kage takes a liking to her. A bit different. I really enjoyed the audio.
I liked the narration by: Chloe Ryan, Michael Gallagher
I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I went into this book with an open mind as its not my usual genre HOWEVER I am so glad I picked up this books! A.C. Kramer might be my new author to watch because as much as I loved this book I think I need to read everything I can by this author.
This book was written so well and had such a hook that the reader was brought in and couldn't leave! The characters are wonderful, the story is well written and the author was able to bring the readers in so that we lived the book with the characters!
“Consider me the virtual Grim Reaper, for I wear the cloak and carry the scythe. This game is all about truth. Lie… and you just might die.”
I loved the book because of the plot, characters and the way it was written. There were like two parts that gave the Icks but they minor so it didn’t keep me from finishing it. IT ALSO MADE ME REALIZE I WANT A SON NAMED LOREN.
I really enjoyed this. It was different than anything else I’ve read before. Kept me interested and invested in the plot. Definitely intrigued by the urban, legend aspect, even though I’m not well versed in them or heard of Killswitch. Add some good twist and turns with a little bit of romance and spice woman in definitely worth to read. IMO
