Bad in Plaid #3

Ye Give Love a Plaid Name

Rate this book
Lady Wynda Oliphant is certain her father’s latest scheme to get her married won’t work, because it’s complete nonsense. And if Wynda knows anything, it’s how to be logical when dealing with her family, her inventions, or even those annoying ghosts who keep pestering her. But there’s one thing that just isn’t logical: the breathless, aching way Pherson Ross makes her feel.

As the Oliphant falconer, Pherson commands some respect within the clan, but he much prefers the solitude of his cottage, with just his raptors and his daughter for company. Wee Wren is the only reason he’s trying so hard to make a life here among the Oliphants, and if they realized what exactly he was hiding from, they’d be sure to abhor him. Aye, ‘tis best to keep his head down, his talons furled, and his daggers ready.

This is working fine, until the laird’s daughter falls—quite literally—into his lap.

Now they’re working together to help Wren learn how to walk again, and Pherson knows ‘tis a bad idea to allow Wynda any closer to his heart. She’s bossy and smart and has a tendency to talk to ghosts—which is ridiculous—but she makes him want to be a better man. With her brilliant smiles and equally brilliant mind, is there any way he can stop falling for her?

When danger finally catches up with him, he’ll do anything to protect his daughter and the woman he’s come to love . . . even if that means turning himself over to the law.

The third book in the series & it’s easily read on its own. Another well written , engrossing read with plenty of humour & I was often laughing out loud but this time it also had me reaching for the hankies. I loved Wynda & Pherson who attracted to each other & spend time together to help Wren, who is a joy, it also gives their relationship a chance to develop. Pherson has a secret, which of course catches up with him. I think this is my favourite of the series so far as I loved how Wynda & Pherson fell in love aided & abetted by ghosts & a lame six year old who didn't want to talk but when she did I was laughing out loud. I read this wonderful book in a sitting

Fooookkkk I loved this book.

Now here is the thing: It's a love story. Pherson and Wynda have proximity attractions they have never acted on. Once they do, bring on the kissing! But it just feels natural. Not burning up the sheets insta-love. But more of I found my person, you are it, staking my claim.

For me, the BEST part of the story was the relationship-building of Pherson, Wynda, and Wren. Whenever a child is involved, the parent needs to consider the needs of the child. Pherson sees the connection, good heart, and smart woman that Wynda is. He is grateful for her willingness to enter a relationship with both of them.

It's the talent of a writer to take a silly-ish poke fun at historical romance and put a scene in it that transports the reader and gives just a visceral chest punch. Chapter six my friends. That demonstration of gratitude. Stole my heart.

I love this author because she never fails to sweep me away and entertain me. The book did just that. I closed the book with a big ol' smile on my face and loving well-written HEAs all over again.

Simply delightful, heartwarming, funny and wonderful! I could keep adding adjectives but I think you understand this is a typical Caroline book... the best!

Lady Wynda Oliphant talks to ghost and writes down their stories and um.. creates drawings for Lady Gray. Who knew ghost could have such humor and insight?

Phearson is the falconer for the Oliphants and protects his precious daughter who has trouble walking and will not speak. Oh yes, he has admired Wynda from afar and does not think she has ever noticed him. That is until she falls into his lap!

I love, love, love Caroline's humor and tongue in cheek barbs! She always leaves me with a hugh smile on my face! What more can you ask for?

This story had me tearing up in the first chapter, damn. That needs to be at the end, but really this is a great heart-warming story. WC Fields said never work with animals and children and I kind of feel that applies in this book. Wee Wren is really the focal point in the book in my opinion. I loved her. She really shined and not to take away from the romance which was really very sweet. Caroline, you got me with some of the puns in the story. Nothing is taken too seriously and I like that.

Wonderful, hilarious story of Lady Wynda Oliphant, one of the many daughters of the Laird and Pherson Ross, the castle's falconer. Wynda is such a wonderful character - quirky, smart, inventive and loving, and Pherson is such a good soul you can't help but fall in love with him. His daughter, Wren, will hold your heart from the start. You won't want to put this one down. Book #3 in the Bad in Plaid series but can be read as a standalone.

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

Will his past stand between them and keep them apart …

An other hilarious irreverent tale piling up the double entendres and salacious quips to challenge the first two books.
I am a historical romance reader, so usually I like my books to be quite accurate but when I am forewarned things are going to be twisted for the sheer joy of the readers, I have no complaint, even more as at the end of the book, the author adds some notes to explain this or that.

Wynda is the scholar of her family, doubled with the curse of being this generation’s ghost whisperer. So when one of her spirits dares her to put to practice the manual she has been writing under a ghost’s dictation about its very detailed and thorough research about amorous congress. And why she should revolt against the spirit’s taunt, she has the right man in mind, if he would allow her close.
Pherson is living on borrowed time, afraid of the moment his past will cat h up with him. He does not fear for his life but for his young daughter. The little Angel who gave him the strength to change the course of his life. And now while drawn to the lively clever witty kind Wynda, he believes there is no hope for them because of whom he has once been.

A fun and sweet tale of acceptance, understanding and resilience with a man who fought to change the fate of his life for a child ne the woman who accepts him in his entirety, flaws and all.

Funny and Poignant

This is a funny and poignant book. The ghost of the Grey Lady is an interesting character.
Pherson and Wynda make a great couple.

This is book 3 in the Bad in Plaid series. This series is about the Oliphant sisters who must marry, so says their dad, and the first to give him a grandson, their husband will become Laird. This book is about Lady Wynda Oliphant and the Oliphant falconer, Pherson Ross. Pherson has a daughter, Wren who can't walk correctly so Wynda builds her a brace so she can 'fly'. The banter is great! The secondary characters are great!
Wynda comes in to her own in this book and goes after what she wants. Pherson loves Wynda from afar but doesn't think he is good enough for her though he is a sweet amazing dad. Wynda is tired of her ghosts bothering her, especially the grey lady so she tries to fulfill the grey lady's request so she'll go away. Can Wynda be bad enough to do it?!?!? Pherson has a secret that is going to come out...and what will he do...flee or stay and fight..or is this the end of him.
I love the references to modern things they shouldn't know anything about. You will laugh a lot. This is such a quick, fun, witty, steamy, laugh out loud book!
Great book!

Wynda Oliphant is smart and in possession of a quick mind, but she’s also plagued by a “gift”: she sees ghosts! Luckily they are not scary ghosts, but helpful and sometimes annoying ones, like the lady ghost who wants to help her by imparting very particular lessons… Wynda is willing to try the ghost’s teachings and who better than a handsome and sweet falconer could help her?
Pherson Ross is quite content with his solitary life with his birds and his sweet daughter. But when Wynda enters his life like a whirlwind he cannot but be attracted by her, her brain and her sweetness. Pity that his secret makes him totally out of limits for her…
Caroline Lee’s books are a breath of fresh air! When I’m down, I pick one of her books and I immediately feel a lot better. This was hilarious, deliciously anachronistic, steamy and utterly perfect! That touch of angst when the hero feels unworthy is the icing on the cake!
Loved it from the first page to the last and I read it in almost one sitting. Can’t wait for another delicious treat like that!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Fabulous Characters in This Sizzling Highland Romance:
A delightfully highly involved fun romance story with a very romantic plot.
Wynda the laird's daughter who has an inventive mind, Pherson the laird's
falconer, plus his little daughter Wren are the main characters.
This story takes us through so many heartfelt emotions as it should due to the ghost of Lady Grey, Pherson's secrets, Wynda's commitment to fulfill the manuscript for Lady Grey and wanting to take her romance advice and then there is Wren who has trouble walking and doesn't say much.
This story definitely kept my attention.
So much fun, laugh out loud, sensuous fan worthy romance, terrifying villains.
A well written highland romance with an unusual cast of characters.
I highly recommend this book that is quite enjoyable.
Adult Advisory:
Descriptive intimacy

adorable, mysterious, heart warming

Pherson is a mystery to many. He keeps himself distant because he has a sordid past. His daughter Wren is handicapped and chooses not to speak. Wynda is the middle daughter, the creator, writer, engineer, and then only one to talk with ghosts. Her mission was to record the information the Grey Lady gives her about sexual positions. Pherson is aware of her and she is aware of him. Each Has interest in the other that is unknown by the other. The relationship between Wren and Pherson is sweet and endearing. When Wynda becomes involved there is an instant connection to Wren. Wynda is assertive and direct with Pherson who is playful with her. His background comes to haunt him but his honesty with Wynda is refreshing and heart stopping. There is much in this story that is sweet and gives the reader the feels, and of course there is laughter.

Highland hawks and a hunk!

This is my first experience with Caroline Lee's writing and it was engaging. The story doesn't delve deeply into the characters but they were fun considering the time frame. He rescued an unwanted child with disabilities and is raising her with so much love, you immediately grow fond of him. Despite his violent past, he's changed his life and is respected by his neighbors. His station in life is lower than hers, but she never acts that way. He's A good, honest man who's very pleasing to the eyes and that's what's important to her. Plus she's sure he'd be good in the sack...lol.
So, the story is cute with very little angst. I wish the writing was more descriptive of the surroundings as well as the characters. You aren't transported which probably would have added another star to my review.

Another rip-roaring page turner, chock full of anachronisms.

I rooted for Wynda and Pherson the entire time. 😄 I loved that Wynda was able to coax wee lassie Wren to spread her metaphorical wings - and Pherson was touched rather than angry that Wynda easily succeeded where he could not for the last six years. Takes a strong man to acknowledge other’s strengths. 👏🏽

Sounds like Robena is taking a page out of Mulan’s book. With my hair being so fine, I cannot imagine having so much hair that leaving it down gives one headaches! But her story doesn’t come out for another month ... after this Kindle Unlimited trial is over. Oh, well ... maybe I can finagle another trial some other time. 🤑

This story is so fun, but also sweet and sexy. You have Pherson the gorgeous falconer and his sweet daughter who doesn’t talk much and is disabled, and then Lady Wynda who knows exactly what she wants and who she wants to do it with after transcribing a book of sexual positions for a ghost she speaks to.
They fall in love while Wynda is helping make a boot for his daughter, but Pherson is hiding a secret from her and doesn’t think he is worthy of her love. As in all good love stories things work themselves in the end and this book is no exception, but it would spoil the enjoyment for you if I told you how!

Your past collides with present

Wynda has a very logical and inquisitive mind. Pherson is a brawny falconer who can not even read! Total opposite but are they.
Pherson has a daughter named Wren who is somewhat lame and of Wynda had a perfect solution that will throw them into more proximity. I love how future words get incorporated into their conversations! Their s chemistry is scorching.
The book commissioned by Lady Gray is also finished.
But there is danger they must face from Pherson past. There are some very tense moments and it is up to Wynda, and her brother to save Pherson from his past mistakes for his future!!! Bravo!

My Heart Was In My Throat

Pherson and Wanda’s story is jam packed with action, experimentation, falling in love, ghosts (one in particular), and mystery. Pherson is a man with a hidden past which catches up with him in a terrifying way at the climax of the story. Caroline Lee practically gave me a heart attack. I went from laughter, to cheering, to having my heart in my throat within minutes. I do love her storytelling though, along with loving the Oliphant family, so I’ll be back for more. Wren is the hidden gem of the book. I’d love to see her get her own story somewhere down the line.

Wynda Oliphant is frustrated. All her life she’s seen the ghosts of Oliphant Castle. It’s just her luck one of them, the mysterious Grey Lady, wants to share ALL her carnal knowledge with Wynda. Wynda only wants to experience it with one man…

Pherson Ross has secrets to hide. His past, his present and his daughter Wren. He even has a secret longing for his lairds daughter…

When their worlds collide, there’s only one thing that’s on their minds… falconry! Oh and a certain Grey Ladies very special book ;)

Scorching hot medieval Scottish highland romp! What more could you possibly want!

This book made me want to be an Oliphant. I read it straight through and loved every minute of it. This book is so fun and funny in typical Caroline Lee style. Wynda is a great character with her inventions and her ghosts. Pherson is just hot and lovable. Wren stole my heart! When she finally decides to speak while with Wynda and Robena, I laughed so hard I almost fell out of my chair. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Pherson's deep love for her makes him even more attractive. Wynda sets out to help his daughter but she wants him to teach her the art of lovemaking. They can't help but fall in love. I'll do aught

Medieval conjecture is hilarious as golden eagles soar, da's play hide and seek and catch angels falling from the castle. Meanwhile, Lady Gray intends to cross over, but she has one last request which leads to heavy breathing and tented kilts. This romp through the Oliphant castle is rewarding and all the proper noun W's are happy.

Little Wren, Pherson and Wanda make for an enjoyable read! The innuendos kept me laughing inappropriately throughout and Wren was such a little sweetheart. A great read!

I enjoyed reading about Wynda and Pherson, there were some parts of this story that almost had me laughing out loud. Little Wren sounded like an adorable little girl, an audacious one. Wren had a bad foot so that she couldn't walk properly and Wynda made her a brace so that she could walk and run like a normal little girl. I highly recommend this book! 👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤

Fun story

So much humor in these stories! I chuckled all the way through! A lot of sex descriptions in this one between the ghost advisor and Wynda's own experience, so if that is a problem for you, you may want to move on. But the storyline is interesting and keeps you laughing all the way!

Caroline Lee is an automatic buy for me, and she outdid herself on this one. It manages to be hilariously ridiculous, sweet and steamy all at once. I absolutely fell in love with these characters. I highly recommend this one, as long as you’re not picky about historical accuracy.

Gotta love ghostly advice

Each book is a stand alone but we read about this sister's manuscript and her Grey Lady from the very first. Loved the interaction between her love and his daughter. Story flowed since it was a fast read but more care could have been taken with the ending because it felt rushed.

Funny and romantical 😉

These books are not only funny but also romantic. Hark back to a time when life was filled with hot hunky men who were men! I’d like to think that there were bold lasses like the Oliphant’s and men who were secure enough in their manhood to love them! Grab Wynda’s story and hold on to your bloomers because you’ll be blown away by Pherson the falconer!
