Tempted by Fire

Rate this book
We’ll burn this city to the ground to find her.

Taken by one enemy and held captive by another, Calla is forced deeper into the supernatural world of power games and deceit, used in a vicious attempt to gain leverage over the vampires she’s bound to. But she isn’t about to be a pawn—not again.

Haunted by his dark and bloody past, Gabriel may have no choice but to reunite with the woman from his nightmares to get Calla back, while Atlas, Kade, and Lex are left to deal with the vampire hunters, an age-old threat that has made a deadly, modern-day comeback.

When Calla finally gets the answers she’s been searching for and discovers there are more dangerous things than the men she wants to hate but her body craves, she must face the reality that letting herself care about them only gives her more to lose. And with enemies closing in on all sides, she could lose everything.

A quick follow on from book 1… but sadly I found myself mostly losing interest. The first 60% of the book was calls being imprisoned away from the bonds and it just seemed to take forever to be reunited and then not all that much happened after. Maybe just a filler book in the series but I found myself reading other books in between reading this one because I kept getting bored.

Will likely still read book 3 to see if it picks back up as it’s only 200 pages so would be a quick read!

So we finally get some answers in this book. There is more detail about the blood oath involving calla, as well as answers about Brighton. Plus you get Gabriel’s back story. This book was so good and leaves you saying more. What a cliffhanger though! I can’t believe Kade has a sister and that she walked up at stabbed him then left. Also the fact that Gabriel is with Selene and she is sending the hunters after the rest of them

I’m so excited I found the series. I love reverse harem, and I love vampires and this is a great mix of those.

Calla is a great female character. She’s smart, stubborn, but not obnoxiously, stubborn, and she stands up for herself. I am really loving getting to know her as a character

This book is usually just from the perspective of the female character, but this book had another point of you, which was Gabriel. I liked that mix of point of views throughout the book.

The story is getting better and better. This book does end on a cliffhanger, but the next book has already been published.

3.5 ish

Warning: This is not a standard review, it is not meant to tell others how I felt about the book, it is my personal review/ notes on the book as I read/ random rants (for when I look back in the future to see how I felt about the book) and probably NOT a great way to tell if you want to read the book.
As I can not make reviews private this is my warning:
It’s all slightly random, choppy and most likely confusing // read at your own discretion. Will also contain lotsss of spoilers.
Enjoy my brain 😄

I’m already giggling!!!! Heheheh I love Gabriel and I’m pumped to have their POVs
I really want to know more about the connection. But also why is it completely gone?
Awe everyone’s having a hard time. Poor Kade
3% our girl hehe
Gotta be honest tho, we haven’t really seen that they care about her. Or love her. So their perspective is harder to feel sad with. Because there’s no depth to their feeling that we’ve seen.
6% girl better be a little messed up after all this happened to her
7% each of the personality things are cute as hell. But lex hasn’t shown anything about him murdering people. Other than I guess at the party.
I wish we got more show and less tell about the guy’s personality’s
9% Selene is jelly that Gabe wants Calla! 😂 love that
Oh well fuck, she turned him?? Ope not good
12% ew this feels like cheating
13% ok yeah we I’m not having fun
14% is he only feel like tho cause he feels out of control? Idk just gave me icky feeling of him wanting another girl like that
But also ew, has he not been affected by Calla like this??????
15%of course she’s bragging. But also what does that mean for Gabe
She’s calling her naive because the guys aren’t gonna let her die
I’m glad calla isn’t dumb
Is it a two way street that they belong to you?
22% what are they afraid of her knowing?
23% awe the guys are sweet but poor Gabe having to tap into the bond
33% she’s a part of us

44% I like angsty atlas! Oh my god I love this!!! Atlas!!! Would burn the world down if something happened to her!! Hehe gotta love a hate kiss
46% so they can hear her pulse? I wish I thought of that more in the first book also Gabe’s the cutest
48% I hope they realize the trauma she’s now gone through and I hope the author doesn’t just have her jump back into getting bit and stuff
54% didn’t she just get kidnapped? And she’s ready to get back to it?
57% good! I’m glad she is having a normal reaction to being afraid to be bit again! And I love their reaction, good boys
63% finally with Gabe! And he’s the cutest, so attentive to her
77% they are all in love with her and are definitely gonna turn her
79% Gabe how the hell is going to spend going to help the situation?
Ima sorry this is just a bad idea!! She can glamour him!! Make him tell her anything she wants! Y’all are stupid
81% the cutest line about their connection, but also this is sad
86% ugh hate Selene bs
94% girl you are not in the mood to fuck with Gabe being kidnapped 🙄
100% goddamn ok didn’t see that being the cliffhanger, poor Kade
And poor Gabe being with Selene

Overall I thought book 2 was good. Obviously pretty short. I’m glad we got more depth this book and more details of what was going on in the world. I still need a little more from the characters for me to believe they are in love or anything like that. But the author hasn’t tried to convince us of that yet.

I think how the author did POVS has been interesting. I feel like we knew Gabe the best from book 1 so getting his POV wasn’t too shocking and this book was heavily following Gabe and calla without taking away from the other guys being there.
I’m hoping book 3 starts bring in move POVS. And not just Kade and calla. But Gabe too and maybe the other 2? Overall thought it was actually a good choice in this case

These books aren’t perfect and could use some more depth to them. But I am still having a good time and overall do really like these characters I will say book 1 was more fun for me to read. But book 2 was better in terms of plot and story.

The information was heavily handed to us in this book. And I think the line between book 1 and 2 when it came to getting information could have been closer. But it is nice to know about more.

i’m liking the series even less as i read it, so i think i have to take a break and come back to it. i don’t know why we’re supposed to be rooting for any of these characters. they don’t do much more than argue and fuck, which is fun the first few times, but it’s not justification enough for a 6 book series.

calla is still naive, stubborn and prideful in ways that make her stupid. she even complains at the end of the book that “…i can do more, but you guys won’t let me.” but we as the audience have no idea what she’s referring to. she can’t really fight, because she’s still training. she has no powers, as far as we know, though i’m sure that’ll change eventually. she has no insider information (other than what she shares when she gets back to the guys) and she doesn’t really seem to have any particularly specific character strengths.

the guys, with the exception of gabriel, are just kinda meh. kade and lex have a playful energy that i enjoy when we actually get to see it. but gabriel is the only one who feels like he might have a story behind him. obviously that’ll change with the rest of the series, but i shouldn’t have to read more than one book in the series to make me like the main characters.

the actual plot, with the vampire hunters and selene and gabriel, is actually rather interesting, but the fact that the audience only gets it in drips and drags between rather lackluster sex scenes really dilutes the suspense factor.

i just…if i’m gonna read a vampire romance, i’d like it to be scarier and sexier and more fun. and this book series has the bare bones of that, but with really underwhelming follow through.

Impatient.

A dark PNR RH, with vampires and witches.
This is the second book in the series and it's told from a dual POV.
Finally, Calla begins to understand what’s really going on—but at a high cost. Many of the truths she uncovers are ones she’ll wish she never knew.
The threats continue, and beyond the danger posed by the hunters, the past comes back to haunt them.
Will they win this battle? They’re being cornered from all sides, barely getting a chance to breathe.
It's impossible not to feel the same helplessness that Calla does when facing the vampires—after all, she’s only human.
How many times did I find myself shouting, "Do something!" or "Defend yourself!" But how can a human compete with a vampire's speed, strength, or glamour? So frustrating!
There are some dark moments, but also some very steamy ones.
Since we’re still at the beginning of their journey and there’s no rest for these lovers, the book ends on a cliffhanger that made me yell, "What?", "Seriously?", and "This is not what I expected...!"
It seems the "boys" still have a lot to discuss with Calla—and since we’re talking about four men of “a certain age” (LOL), they come with a lot of baggage.
I think poor Calla is going to need many trips to the spa.

There's a bit more plot. There are certain things that feel repetitive like the comebacks/dialogue, especially arguments.

Bro clearly cares about her vamps, semi admits it to herself a couple times, but still fights them on EVERYTHING? she freaks out about being on a vampires hit list and doesn't feel safe, yet gets pissed off when the guys tell her to stay home and do class online...? And then thinks going to brunch with a friend isn't just as dangerous as going to class???? I've lost count of how many times she argues w the boys to let her go to class, I get that she is stubborn and cares about having at least one normal thing in her life but there's no way she's THAT stupid to think she will be safe in class and will be able to focus when she's already on edge about being attacked again???

Do I really need to know their Uber experience and their Uber driver's rating?

Again, easy read (finished in 1 day), spicy scenes (slightly less frequent than the first book), fast paced, and plot development (not as much as I think there could be)

These books have me locked in a chokehold but because of the writing style, I am unable to rate it any higher than 3/5.

Rating 3 stars. Not because of the FMC, Calla, who is even more annoying now than she was in the first books and such a singular character. Sigh. The saving grace of this book is Gabriel, Atlas, Kade and Lex. We get more character background and development for them. Calla whines even more and makes illogical and selfish choices again. Who cares about being physically on campus for college when someone is trying kill you and turn you into a vampire...oh right we can't think logically because all anyone can do is have sex. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good spicy novel but spicy scenes in the middle of a crisis doesn't make sense. She got abducted and was rubbing one out within 2 days. Of course she was because she's a FMC with zero skills other than tasting "sweet." She can't even learn self-defense because all she can think about is sex and the male vampires wanting to keep her safe, apparently, aren't too worried about her safety because they just want sex too...but hey they have a new security system. 🤦🏾‍♀️ Sigh. This book had more of a plot than book 1 but still. Now I have to decide if I can suffer through book 3 solely to find out what happens to Gabriel and Kade.

#2 in the Blood and Oath series. This is a Reverse Harem of 4 vampires who have claimed a human girl promised to the many years before her time.

In this installment Calla is learning more about her vampires. Gabriel's sire has stolen Calla from them in an attempt to regain her lost love for herself. We get a glimpse into the violent history that shaped Gabriel into the being that he is in modern times. Although it is the last thing he wants, Gabriel agrees to go with the sire in exchange for Calla to be returned to the other three.

Unfortunately for them, it becomes clear that everything is not as it appears. Calla's best friend is tied to a family of vampire hunters. During Calla's time with the sire, she learns that the sire has connection with the best friend's father. A twisted revelation comes about that the sire has worked with this hunter group for years in exchange for her own protection.

The devious sire had planned all along to turn in the remaining 3 vampires to the hunters in order to save Gabriel, and herself.

The book was a whirlwind of emotion, and I was definitely here for every second of it.

Potential spoilers after this point, I'm tired and just want to ramble thoughts. =)

With everything Calla is already going through, trying to find answers about the boys and what's going on, and everything they're still keeping from her, being kidnapped only adds to the trouble that she's in. Coupled with exactly who kidnapped her, why, and the ultimatum put on her life, it's a show of just how strong Calla is that she hasn't just broken down and curled up in the corner rocking herself as she mumbles quietly.

Not only that, she's still trying to keep up with school through all of this, hid what's going on from her best friend despite her best friend's parents being vampire hunters, and then that twist at the end with Kade. I can't wait to to dive into book three to keep going.

Note: I do not competely love the cliffhanger endings, and this does 100% end on a cliffhanger. But when the stakes are high enough, and the next book is already out, I can forgive it to a point.

Good follow up, going deeper into the story

The first book in the series blew me up, with incredible spice, and this second installment continues with the great heat.
However, I wasn't as hooked as I was with the first book. There is more story, character background and intrigue, which is a positive aspect, but it failed to draw me in. But it doesn't mean that because it wasn't totally for me, that it's not gonna be for you.
I loved the evolution in the characters dynamic, mainly between Calla and Atlas for which we gladly suffer through a slow-burn. The tension is delicious and addictive.
I was very happy to get one of the guys' POV, and my guess is that each book will give us more access to one of the men.
Overall, I still liked it. The spice was on point. Was let down a bit with other parts of the book.

I gave "Tempted by Fire" a shot, really I did. Remember the issues in the first book? The character depth of a kiddie pool, the plot thinner than my patience on a Monday morning? Yep, they made a comeback.

And the story? If the first book set the bar low, this one shimmied under them with an awkward grace that's hard to applaud.

The plot was so elusive, I half-expected to see a 'plot appears here' sign tucked between the pages. It felt like embarking on a treasure hunt, only to discover the 'X' marks the spot in the unexciting land of 'Been There, Done That, 100% smut does not a story make.'

With a mixture of resignation and relief, I'm officially relegating "Blood Oath Series" to the depths of my 'Do Not Read Abyss.' It's a shelf that's sadly becoming a bit too populated, but at least it's brimming with depth - something I wished this series had more of.

This is the second book of the Blood Oath series and is based on the POV of Calla and Gabriel. I honestly love how the author switched it up from the first book to bring in some more depth to the vampire side.

Calls has been taken, the tether that ties her to Gabriel, Atlas, Kade, and Lex has been diminished. Haunted by the fact that one of their pasts is the reason behind her disappearance, they will stop at nothing get her back to where she belongs. With them.

- Atlas hesitates. “No.” He steps closer, his gaze darkening. “There’s a vampire who threatened someone who belongs to me.” He tilts his head to the side slightly, those liquid silver eyes flicking between mine. “I don’t take kindly to that.”

*** CONTAINS SPOILERS ***

Well Selene...we officially DON'T like you! 🤬
This book is dual POV from Calla and Gabriel, and I liked reading more about Gabriel's story. I did not expect him to be THE guy 🤯
This book had a lot more spice, too, and I loved that the guys were more communicative towards Calla (even if it was after the fact).
I do, however, feel that the history of the bload oath fell a little flat after building so much expectation throughout books 1 and 1.5 too.
Finding out about the Vampire Hunter's and where they fit it brought the story together nicely.
Then there is that cliffhanger... 😱😱 Sorry, WHAT THE HELL??? 👀 Ms. Carter, you are going to give me a heart attack 😬

fun, quick read

4⭐️ / 4🌶

Just like the first book I was immediately sucked into this story, trying to piece together all of the pieces and figure out the truth! Calla continues to be fierce and likeable! I really liked getting to know more of Gabriel, and seeing a more vicious side to him. I did miss getting to see the other perspectives with this story focused on Calla & Gabriel. The steamy scenes were not a disappointment, you’ll definitely want a cool drink nearby for this one. This story was a quick, fun read and I’m desperate to find out what happens after that cliffhanger.

Let’s start at the end & work our way to the beginning..

The cliffhanger 🥲😭 I’m like too shook to even cry. I don’t even know what to say after that. Like I wasn’t expecting it & now I’m upset af.
This book, well series, has taken over my life. I’m thinking about Calla & the boys constantly. This book was pretty good in the sense that I genuinely didn’t know what was gonna happen next. I forsure love the spice. It’s not too much like there’s actually a plot in this book. I love it

Audiobook review

Overall: 4 stars
Story: 3 stars
Performance: 4.5 stars

The narrators are the only reason I continued to listen to this book. The story progressed story for me, and the only thing that kept me going was the voice acting. The performance was great, boosting the experience for me. I will continue with this series, with the audiobooks, only because I feel the narration does help. The first book was amazing, and it just took forever to get through this book because it didn’t hook me like the first. I’m hoping the next book jumps back into the pace the first set for me.

I’ve been looking for a good vampire book for a while and thank God I found it!!! I’m not the best when it comes to reading series, I get bored easily and it takes a lot to hold my attention but this one has it, I’m obsessed and can’t stop reading especially since both books have been short as well. I think what I love about the books is that they are quick easy reads with good characters, a developing plot and a world that gets a little bigger each time! Anyway I’m off to read book 3!!!!

A month after Calla is swept up in the paranormal world because of a deal her grandfather made she is now worrying about the big bad determined to take her from her guys. When a visit to a friends house ends up with her kidnapped she starts to find answers in the most unlikely place. This “book”. It’s really more like a part because they are quick stories has a lot of drama going on and ends in a cliffhanger.

Narrators do a great job and make a listen all the more enjoyable.

It’s not a bad series so far but it’s definitely not very interesting. Again it feels like it’s missing something and you are reading and hoping that something happens. I don’t hate it, don’t love it either. Even the spice is weird to me. I love reverse harems, why choose but this spice is weird and it honestly doesn’t add to the story the way you would expect it too.
I will finish the series but I need a break so I don’t fall into a slump.

This is a great series for someone who is new to dark romance, or reverse harems. It’s not super hard core or dark, there is humour and a good story line. Although it’s a reverse harem I didn’t find it crazy spicy, which is why I think it would make a great intro for someone who is curious about reverse harems!
Ends with a cliff hanger, the third book is out February 28 2022!

so good

I love the fast burn, fast pace of this series. The FMC sometimes gets on my nerves but she comes through in the end. I read this book in one sitting, there was no way I was putting it down. The series is spicy and the guys are super hot. Can’t wait to learn more about what’s going on in their world and how it all ends!

Wait what is that ending!?!?

Okay I still don’t feel much of a connection with this series, I pray it will change with the third book. It sucks because I could have felt one, like I feel something but it’s not enough to crave more like I do for other series, I will however continue since the ending left me in shook and might just be what I need to feel closer to those boys.

The secrets are still piled on thick with this one, although some are revealed. It's more intense and rawer than the first. There are a ton of emotions going on throughout the story. First when Calla gets kidnapped and then through her rescue. This is a very love hate relationship. Calla is a little confused on what to do.

This is the second book in the Blood Oath series. This book picks up where book one left off. Calla is taken and held by Gabriel's sire. I love that we get to see shaped Gabriel into the man today. He has a very dark past. I can't wait for the next book. Bridget and Jake Bordeaux did a fantastic job narrating this book.

I'm about an hour in and it's so full of cliches.

A good edit, and better character development is absolutely required. Also let's get over the 20year olds that capture centuries old vampires interest, it's trivial and ridiculous. Not reading anything else. I gave it 12h of my life, and I regret it.
