One thing I enjoy about the Overlord series is although it could be super serious and dark it does offer us breaks from the action with humor and character development for not only those from Nazarick but also those that our main cast take on in this new world they find themselves in. This book in particular had me chuckling with its bad timed opportunities leading to awkward moments for both sides. :)
After barely defeating the undead legion, lead by Cocytus, the lizard tribes have a moment of respite to heal and prepare for a potential follow up attack. Little do they know their fate are being discussed by the master of Nazarick, Ainz Ooal Gown and his commanders. Love and death are in the air as the lizard tribes are given a chance to prove themselves against Cocytus by getting a chance to defeat him by themselves but after showing the power of Nazarick we have to wait till the next volume to see if morale is really as high as it seems by the end of this volume.
My fave moment of the book is when Ainz see the throne of bones created for him and considering Shalltear still wished to be punished for her actions in previous volumes decided he would use her as a chair instead. Poor Albedo. :)
In the aftermath of the Lizardman victory over the army of undead, Cocytus faces the (potential) wrath of Ainz Ooal Gown for his failure to win the battle.
But this is Ainz Ooal Gown, a young man from Japan who got zapped into his game avatar and is keeping everything together on pure charisma and game knowledge. So he manages to avoid losing face because Demiurge assumes that Ainz had planned the whole thing! Even Cocytus losing.
So they regroup and send the Lizardmen another message, bend the knee or die by the hand of Cocytus. (And this is where the weird lizard sex happens. My friend kept warning me about it, but I didn't think they'd actually do it.)
The Lizardmen deserve their own spin-off. The author made them into living, breathing characters and they deserve to have story grow beyond as fodder for Ainz's social experiments.
