Good book recording remnants of Old English language and music that survived nearly intact in the southern Appalachia mountains
into the early 20th Century. An iconic book every Appalachian culture, music, and history buff should have.

This is a great songbook. Campbell and Sharp collected many wonderful ballads and songs while preparing the collection. Perhaps the best aspect of the book is the inclusion of variant lyrics and sheet music for so many of the songs. This is moving to the top of my pile of music books by my stand, and I think it will stay there for a long time. I just wish someone would issue a spiral-bound version of the book. ot make it easier to use while playing.
