Kinley Black's dream comes true when an interview with her favorite band turns into an opportunity to become a roadie. She is determined to out-man the rest of the road crew who scorn her presence. But it's hard to be manly when the sight of the lead singer strikes chords of desire within her.

IT'S HARD TO BE ONE OF THE GUYS...

Quinn Mayne, lead singer of Viciӧus, is furious when the road manager hires a woman to haul their gear. Taking such a beauty on the road is like dangling meat over a pack of feral hounds. However, threat of a discrimination lawsuit leaves him no choice. Despite his reluctance, he can't help being impressed by his new roadie's determination any more than he can suppress his urge to protect her... or his craving for her lush lips.

WHEN HE MAKES HER FEEL LIKE SUCH A GIRL

Combating the advances and animosity of her coworkers, Kinley's talent and skill earns the band's regard... and more heated glances from Quinn. When she is promoted to guitar tech, one roadie's resentment grows until he goes to deadly lengths to stop her. As her foray into the male-dominated world of heavy metal deepens, Kinley learns that she has to do more than protect her heart, she has to protect her life.

I like to read and I read a whole lot of different things. Nonetheless, I do have my favourite genres and generally speaking, romance doesn’t rank too high there, but there are always exceptions.
In the interests of remaining widely read, I’m not averse to checking out the odd romance novel or two and when there’s a solid injection of heavy metal into the story, you can guarantee my interest is piqued.
Brooklyn Ann’s ‘Kissing Viciöus (Hearts of Metal Book 1) is therefore, just the kind of romance infused book I would be keen to check out and with its strong leading lady and heavy metal hero, it doesn’t disappoint.
The book revolves around Kinley Black who, along with her best friend Kat, hosts the blog Metalness.com, dealing with all things in the way of metal music. Kinley is no shrinking violet; not only is she a dedicated metalhead who has spent plenty of time playing guitar in local tribute bands, but she’s adept at fixing up muscle cars and lugging band equipment around as a roadie (albeit for her own band), as well as standing toe to toe with the guys in fistfights. When an interview with the man of her dreams, Quinn Mayne, vocalist of the band Viciöus, leads to her attaining a position with the band as a roadie, she soon finds herself getting far closer to the man than she ever would have imagined in more ways than one.
The writing here is smooth, crisp and engaging, and it’s quite easy to become immersed in the story and appreciate the various obstacles the strong-willed heroine has to overcome in a world that is largely dominated by males. Character development is excellent and for those who aren’t overly knowledgeable about the rock n’ roll, or metal lifestyle, Brooklyn Ann presents some great glimpses into it (there are a number of characters in Kissing Viciöus who certainly remind me of many folk I’ve met in the scene) and she doesn’t sugarcoat it either.
Romance is deftly blended with humour, fantasy is tinged with tragedy and the whole thing rolls along, nicely underpinned by a solid soundtrack of metal. It’s sexy, it’s absorbing and whole-heartedly refreshing and while at the heart of it ‘Kissing Viciöus’ might be a romance novel, there is much more to it than that. Consider me impressed and very pleasantly surprised.
Looking forward to book two in the series.

The world and context of this story was totally new to me, but I was not confused by the jargon, I could easily follow the storyline and gain some new insights beyond my realm at the same time.

I like the familiarity with which Brooklyn speaks about the music, the equipment, and typical daily life of musicians on the road. It's not like she referenced a dictionary and added terms she thought sounded good. The jargon fits the setting and personalizes the story. I's obvious that she didn't just go talk to some band member somewhere and ask "hey, what's it like to be in a band?". She knows her subject and paints a picture that puts you at the scene. You are there, firsthand. Her conversations flow with reality.

good easy read. it's cool that Kinsley was portrayed as a hard ads rock chick who works hard at everything she does. her passion is music and she gives 110% no matter what she is doing, blogging, rolling up ropes, playing guitar. Quinn is a metal god, Kinsley's crush, and her new boss. their attraction is instant. seeing that he supports her and encourages her is great. I wish he would have opened up about his sister sooner and that we would know what happened to her, also I would have loved that kinsely's family would make an appearance , so she could tell them to shove it. when she was purposely drugged, I would have expected Kat to show up. just those reasons I gave it a 3 stars. but I enjoyed the story.

Kinley went to the concert to interview the band but after a physical fight with one of the security guys they offered her a job as a roadie. Quinn, the lead singer was worried about her safety because she’s the only girl in a bus full of roadies but she did beat the daylight out of Harry. As the weeks pass Quinn starts getting feelings for Kinley and she’s totally on the same page. There’s so much Quinn likes about her and they’re so cute together, I love how they’re falling in love. This is a really awesome love story and I’m giving it five stars. I highly recommend this book and it’s on to book two.

4.5 stars. Really enjoyed this one - a refreshing take on the rock star trope that was entertaining and steered clear of the whole “slutty groupie” that makes me roll my eyes.

Kinley Black’s unconventional hobbies include playing the guitar and co-owning a blog dedicated to metal music. When she scores a backstage interview with Vicious, one of the most popular bands ever it’s a dream come true, but once backstage, Kinley gets far more than she could have thought: A chance to be a roadie for her favorite band. She just has to maintain her “Just One of the Guys” attitude, which becomes more difficult with every moment spent in the Quinn Mayne’s presence.

Kinley may pull her weight without complaint but putting such an attractive woman in the middle of a group of men is just asking for trouble in Quinn’s opinion. Sure she’s tough, opinionated and very talented on the guitar but Quinn knows every moment she’s on tour with them is another moment she could get hurt. His attraction to Kinley takes on a new meaning the more time he spends around her. He wants her to claim as his own but also see to it that her talent has a chance to shine on its own.

I want to see more women like Kinley in romance. I want heroines who succeed on their own, who don’t see romance as the see all, end all, know all in life. Kinley had dreams and goals that she was not going to give up for any reason and I loved that about her. She saw romance as a bonus in life, not the ultimate and only goal. She was a little young for my taste so naturally she had her moments of immaturity and internal drama but overall I did enjoy her love of what is typically considered a “man’s” hobby/job and that she wasn’t just playing at being a guitarist, she WAS a guitarist.

And I firmly believe that it takes a strong man to love and appreciate an unconventional woman so of course, I was going to fall for Quinn as much a Kinley did. He’s a cocky one though but balance it out with intelligence and dry humor and the ability to appreciate a female who has the ability to play guitar like a boss and yeah I was totally a goner. He had his moments of well, screwing up with Kinley but he’s a guy, if he’s not sticking his foot in his mouth then it’s no fun at all right?

The setting for Kissing Vicious not only made for a great rock star romance but it allowed for a natural chain of obstacles to occur for Quinn and Kinley. Metal music is predominantly a male oriented genre, not to mention the aggression and hostility that can be present in not only that genre of music but in any genre. I didn’t feel like the conflicts were forced on the couple just for the sake of adding conflict. There was a natural progression and escalation of conflicts all stemming from the misogynistic behavior of the men around Kinley. While Quinn may have wanted to be the hero and shield Kinley from it all, he recognized her ability to handle anything thrown her way. These two really made a good couple.

With a secondary cast of characters who are really neither all good or all bad (for the most part), Kissing Vicious caught and held my attention with a heroine that isn’t seen all that often in romance, and a hero who loved her because of her differences.

Final Verdict: Brooklyn Ann, I FREAKING LOVE YOU for making Kinley unwilling to give up her dreams just because she was in love with Quinn. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for creating a heroine who doesn’t see marriage to a man, no matter how sexy he is, as a good enough reason to quit being who she is in order to become just a wife. Thank you for making Kinley stick to her guns until she got her point across AND got the best of both worlds.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s one of those that hit all my happy buttons and allowed me to live out a fantasy through the words of the author. I immediately remembered being in middle school and waiting for the mailman to deliver the next issue of Tiger Beat magazine so I could pull out whatever poster was included, hoping it was someone I liked so I could tape it to the walls of my bedroom. I could relate to having a rock star crush but in this book, we see the fantasy come true.

Kinley Black has scored big time when she’s given the opportunity to interview lead singer Quinn Mayne after a concert of her most favorite metal band, Vicious, for her blog. But a run in with a very handsy security guard has her needing to defend herself. When it’s all said and done, Kinley has a job as a roadie for the band. As the only female, she’s determined to pull her weight, and she wins over the rest of the crew really quickly when they realize that she is not afraid of hard work and she really knows what she’s doing.

Because Kinley has a secret….this roadie stuff is nothing new to her. She’s done it before.

Quinn isn’t sure that hiring Kinley is a good idea. He’s worried that she’ll reveal things he doesn’t want revealed on her blog and he’s worried that what happened with the security guard will put the band in a bad light. He’s also really worried about the fact that he can’t get Kinley out of his mind.

I easily read this book in an afternoon. I was pulled in and liked Kinley immediately. I loved the interaction she had with everyone and how in spite of being a total fan girl who totally had a huge crush on the lead singer, she was able to function and not make a total fool of herself. I liked how the author chose to “expose” her so that Quinn could see her talents and while predictable, I enjoyed seeing Kinley reap the benefits of those talents.

I liked how Quinn struggled to keep himself in check and not cross the employer/employee line. And he does try, but luckily for Kinley, he fails. I liked this author’s voice and the pacing for this story was just right. While things happen pretty quickly, I didn’t get that rushed or instalove feel. I found that Quinn didn’t wear his “rock star-ness” 24/7 and that made him even more likeable. The camaraderie of the band showed them to be a close knit group and they band together easily in times of stress and conflict.

Secondary characters round out a very unique cast of characters. I enjoyed the tease of a possible romantic liaison for Kinley’s blog partner, Kat. While predictable and just a bit fluffy, I enjoyed this story and really look forward to more from this author.

This is the story of Kinley Black, a woman who runs the a blog dedicated to the heavy metal music scene. When she has the opportunity to do an interview Quinn Mayne, lead singer of Kissing Vicious and the man of her dreams, some pretty wacky hijinks lead to her becoming a roadie and getting far closer to Quinn than she might ever have expected.

This is a fun romance with some bite to it. I liked the way the relationship built between Kinley and Quinn, and man, was that some hot stuff once they got down and dirty. *fans self*

However, I felt like there was too much repetition of the "Ehrmahgerd, Quinn Mayne! <3 <3 <3!!1!" theme. I might be completely off base, but rather than being so starstruck for so long, I would have expected the crush to evolve into something having more to do with him as a person rather than him as a public figure.

On the other hand, everything else was spot-on to me. I felt like the roadie life and information about how the technical aspects of how the band functioned were all believable and interesting. The way Kinley had to be "one of the guys" and pull her weight (and then some) was so familiar that it made me want to cheer every time she managed to thumb her nose at the naysayers. She worked so hard over the course of the story to be where she was that it truly was a joy to see her realize her dreams coming true.

Not to mention it was fantastic to see Kinley sticking to her guns when it really counted. There were times when Quinn got some serious side-eye on my part, but man, Kinley did a good job of staying true to herself no matter the circumstances. She is, in every sense of the word, a strong heroine.

This story was sexy and fun, and even though I know it sounds like I have some reservations about it, this is a nice little bit of escapist fiction that I recommend if you have any interest in the music scene or in contemporary romances. I'm looking forward to digging in to the sequel, WITH VENGEANCE, and seeing Kinley's best friend get her own rock star-studded HEA!

Kissing Vicious is the first book in the Heart of Metal series by Brooklyn Ann. This is the first book that I have read from the author and I thoroughly adore it! Kissing Vicious tell the story of Kinley Black and Quinn Mayne. Kinley has had a challenging childhood and has learned to fight for what she believes in. She is a strong-willed, modest woman who is willing to work extra hard to be taken serious in the male dominated life of a hard metal rocker.

As Kinley begins working for the heavy metal band Viciöus, her relationship with the lead singer, Quinn, grows. I love that Quinn was not a snobby rock star or one who took advantage of everything. He was protective of Kinley and supported her throughout the story. I was drawn into the book quickly with a great story line, wonderful characters, and some hot hot scenes. I am looking forward to reading the second book, With Vengeance, which is Katana and Klement‘s story. **ARC was received in exchange for an honest review**

So, I'm not a metal fan but I can honestly say that I loved the way this book exposed me to the music and life style of a metal band!! Kinley was an awesome character; well rounded, strong, but still a woman. I was worried about her not embracing the gifts that God had given her, so it was nice to see her 'man-up' and face the challenges that her new lifestyle presented. Quinn's character was all that any woman would desire in a man; with all the warts and glamour. Lol.

Another great book by Ms. Brooklyn Ann! Can't wait for your next book(s).

YESSSS! This book is a great one :)

It’s about a HEROINE meet her favorite rock star by accident and they eventually have the same feeling and pull to be with together.

THE HEROINE IS A BADASS FEMALE! I liked it :)

THE HERO is a rock star but in this book he doesn’t shows how a man whore he is in the past or when he first meet the heroine. THE HERO does not have sex with other even when they weren’t a officially couple. THE HERO HAVE BEEN THROUGH A LOT but he is strong enough and smart not to do things he shouldn’t even tho he’s a rock star.

THE HEROINE is a badass and very smart guitarist. At first she doesn’t want others to know about it but eventually THEY SAW HER BY SURPRISE AND SERIOUSLY I LIKE HOW THEY REACTED TO IT. They was so amazed by her. the heroine is very kind too. She always scares because of her past that makes her that way, she scared a lot but she never chicken out with a challenge and SASSY.

THE HERO wants the heroine so bad... he thought she doesn’t like him at first but he was wrong.

OVERALL THIS ROCK STAR LOVE STORY is safe all the way and fun to read. Not many annoying stuff happened here so it’s safe.

•DRAMA with OM because there’s a guy who’s jealous that the heroine is smarter than him in the band and he was very annoying to her. Every time THE HEROINE WANT TO PUNCH HIM cause she can! She got pulled by the hero. THE HEROINE HAVE THE SASSY MOUTH EVER. DRAMA OW is a reporter that one slept with the hero without the hero realize cause he was super drunk. The OW never went too far with the hero afterwards when the heroine meet her. IT HAS A GROUPIE but never went too far... THE HERO is very LOYAL TO THE HEROINE.

•THE HERO IS POSSESSIVE ALPHA MALE. Even when they weren’t dating at first.

•NO VIRGINS HERE.

•HOT SMUT SCENES

•NO VIOLENCE BETWEEN THEM

•NO. CHEATING

•MANY JEALOUS SCENE FROM THE HERO

•HAPPY ENDING

•NO EPILOGUE :( but i still liked it!!!!

This was the book that kept me reading until almost 3 a.m. Moreover, the story kept spinning in my mind all day long when I wasn’t reading it. ❤️‍🔥 I kept replaying some scenes and moments in my mind because they were so cool and resonated with me.

Although the beginning of the story was quite unexpected compared to other rock-star romances, the plot quickly hooked me. It was so easy to feel what Kinley felt for Quinn. I'm so in love with these sweet fantasies about a fangirl falling in love with her favorite musician. Quinn is a real rock crush on the page — ah, so sweet. 😍 I liked him immediately, with all his sexy vibes and protective behavior.

I can see how much the writer researched and how well-developed the characters are. The setting, the music vibe, behind-the-scenes moments, working moments, and hanging-out scenes are perfectly shown. I find the second part of the story a bit too dramatic, especially after the 75% mark, but still, it's a great piece of work.

Thanks for this great story. It made me feel warm, cozy, anticipatory, and excited in all kinds of ways. 😁 Another favorite rock-star romance for my list. 🤘🔥

I have been meaning to read Kissing Vicious for a while now as it had been recommended in many of my favorite author’s FB pages. Now I am wondering why I waited so long to read it! I always love a good rockstar romance and this one does not disappoint. A female roadie and amazing guitar player?! How can you not love a heroine like that! I loved both Kinley and Quinn. Kinley is a strong character kicking butt in a “boys club” profession, but she is also vulnerable. Quinn is the sexy, popular lead singer of the band Vicious. Based off of past experience, he is super protective of Kinley. I also loved the secondary characters - i.e. Kinley’s best friend, Kat and the other bandmates from Vicious. I am already looking forward to reading the next book in her Hearts of Metal series - Cat and Klement’s book!

Had Potential But Disappointing

I gave up around 70% hoping the FLC would eventually grow a spine and a pair of ovaries but it seems that most female authors have to write their female leads as broken insecure women who constantly doubt themselves - because my daddy was mean to me!!! But somehow wants female readers to buy into 2 broken halfs equal a whole love that will endure. In the end I couldn't stop laughing and the preposterous nature of it all and decided to move on to hopefully something better that actually empowers a female lead. Good luck to anyone who can stick it out.

Kinley is a blogger who sets out to interview the members of her favorite heavy metal vand, Vicious. Despite the fact that her mother died when she was young, and she was raised by a male chauvinist father, Kinley is a strong woman in every sense of the word. Not only does she defeat one of the band's roadies who groped her, but Vicious finds out that she makes a decent roadie herself. But Kinely doesn't want to stop there. She has been a fan of music all her life and would love to be the band's guitarist. It isn't easy for Kinley at first, and things become more complicated when she develops a requited crush on lead singer, Quinn. The story is ripe with romance, suspense, and great musical references; the author has her readers poised and ready for sequels. Kinley is a heroine for our time, striving in a field where sexism is still alive and breathing.

Hot rock star and a female roadie. A well written captivating story with nice storyline and plot. The characters are well described and they develop nicely through the story. Words flows nicely of the pages and at times they keep you on the edge just to know what happens next.
The secrets, attraction, lust and trust issues makes it worth the read. Kinley should have told about his sister sooner but the two of them have a great chemistry and are both passionate about their work.
Amazing read.

This book hit the spot!
A strong female lead, a LI that didn't play with your heart, and a foundation of music.
Kin is the kinda girl you could admire. She stands up for herself, is independent, hard-working and kind. Her journey with the band and Quinn was well written and made it hard to put down.
This romance makes you feel warm and cozy inside. I find it definitely worth the read!

When i read a book, i like to cast myself as the female lead if possible. It helps me to enjoy the book more. When she is embarrassed or angry, i get embarrassed or angry.
It was hard at first for me to get into this story for a single reason: the language. I don't mind strong language, but a large amount of it bothers me. With this setting, the industry the characters are in is heavy metal. Strong language is going to happen.
I'm not taking a whole star rating simply because of language, though. Far from it. Actually around the first third of the book, the language lessened and became a background thing just to add to the character's personalities.
It felt like there was so much more to the story than was told. Some characters didn't feel completed; their back story or even a hint of it, sometimes personalities felt off or inconsistent, and the connections between them felt forced or placed and mentioned only to become convenient to move the story out of a corner.
The ending was also abrupt it felt. I'll be picking up the second one, of course. It seems this story and setting is a nice refreshing breath of air. Not many authors would try this setting, and i even got the feeling that perhaps Brooklyn has a personal connection or history here that helped influence it.

This book...wow! I spent a decade as a roadie myself (back in my misspent youth) so did this bring back some memories! The author nailed the life both good and bad. Sex, drugs and rock-and-roll.

Poor Kinley's just trying to get an interview with the band members for her music blog. Some creep-of-a-drunk roadie stands in her way, propositioning her and not letting her through despite her press pass. When he gets physical, she threatens to "kick his A**" but looks for help. The lead guitarist intervenes with a weird offer - if she CAN beat him, she can have his job. She does.

The lead singer is NOT amused, and doesn't want a girl on the crew. It's a harassment lawsuit in the making. And the confidentiality agreement the band makes her sign does NOT make Kinley's blog partner happy; Kat was looking forward to all kinds of juicy gossip tidbits for their readers.

Kinley wins the crew over--minus one--with blood, sweat, and unexpected ability. She knows a lot more about the life than she should. Quinn wonders what she's hiding, but has to admit she's earning her keep and keeping her word. The only things that hit her blog are the official interviews everyone agreed on. But there's definitely more to Kinley's past than she's letting on.

Quinn and Kinley have a definite reluctant-but-sizzling chemistry. The author weaves her tapestry of characters and world-building seamlessly as she draws the two of them together. When they finally yield to the inevitable, the reader can't help but cheer. But can a secret affair morph into true love and survive the craziness of the business they both work in?

I absolutely adored this book! I read it start to finish in one sitting, and was sad when it was over. I would definitely read more of this series, and this author!

Blurb:

Aspiring guitarist Kinley Black is about to get her first big break—as a roadie for Viciöus, her favorite heavy metal band, and for the rock god she always dreamt might make her a woman.

THE ROADIE

At 15, aspiring guitarist Kinley Black wished she were a boy. At 16, after hearing Quinn Mayne sing, she wanted him to make her a woman. Now, at 22, her dreams have come true. Quinn’s band Viciöus needs someone to lug their amps around the country, to strive and sweat with the guys. She just has to act like one of them.

AND THE ROCK GOD

Quinn had to admit the new chick could pull her weight, but that didn’t mean his road manager made the right choice. Taking a hottie on a heavy metal music tour was like dangling meat in front of a pack of feral hounds—and Quinn could be part dog himself. But more surprising than her beautiful body are Kinley’s sweet licks, so that no man could help but demand a jam session. Quinn will soon do anything to possess her, and to put Kinley in the spotlight where she belongs. And to keep her safe and sound from the wolves.

Review:
“Her core throbbed in need to be filled. She bit her lip to keep a moan from escaping. Never before had she desired a man so much. But for all intents and purposes she was lusting after her boss. I am so screwed.”

4 vicious stars!

Kinley gets to live out every girls fantasy. She gets to go on tour with the metal band she’s loved since she was fifteen and be in close proximity to her rock star crush!! Perfect right?? Well I think it is, but that’s coming from a total fangirl!! I loved Quinn’s need to protect her and keep her away from the other men sniffing her out!! The tension between Quinn and Kinley is sexy for sure, but super sweet. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but I know it won’t be the last!

This was a pretty darn good read. When Kinley arrives for her interview with her favorite metal band vocalist, the sexier than sexy Quinn, the band's security guard gives her hard time despite her laminated back stage pass. She shows him who's the boss, on a dare and next thing she knows, she is hired as a Vicious roadie.
Though Quinn's not exactly thrilled to have a woman on his crew, but he has his own reasons for that, he warms up to her and slowly discovers there's a whole lot more to her than what meets the eye.
In the series of unpredictable events, Kinley moves from roadie to his guitar tech to being a stand-in member of the band. And eventually to his girlfriend, though that started earlier, but she wanted to keep their relationship under wraps. Since her mother's death when she was only 11 yrs old, her father expected her to fill in her mother's shoes and take care of family. She grew up feeling cheated of her childhood and thought the boys had it easier. She proved her dad wrong on all occasions except one, that involved the first boy she liked. But Quinn was different, the way he looked at her made all her girly parts, she hated until now, quiver. He caused her to walk on quaking legs, her cheeks to pinked, and her heart to race, but she hid her feelings for him to not to give the guys in the crew any reasons to tease her.
The chemistry between Kinley and Quinn was sizzling. Right up to their first sexual encounter. From there on, some of the heat between them seem to got lost. Though the sex scenes were hot, I just didn't feel them as much as I hoped I would.
The thing with the coffee was given that the jealous Phil would do something bad. I expected Kinley to pour the coffee out, given that she is a tough cookie and all.
Not sure if in the real band things would progress the same way, but this is fiction so anything goes.
The ending seemed a bit rushed. Quinn performing on stage while his mind wonders off into the backstory. I'm sure he played his songs so many times he could do it in his sleep, but his musings went on for a tad too long.

This book was a departure from my normal reading list and it turned out to be a welcome one. Kissing Vicious completely took me into the life as a roadie travelling with a famous metal band. Kinley is an unusual lead. She's a tough, determined woman; strong, smart, passionate, talented, focused, snarky with a chip on her shoulder, yet with touch of vulnerability that makes her so likable. Quinn is a rock god, but has grown tired of the trappings of fame and seems really decent.

One minute Kinley has landed the interview of a lifetime for her website with her favorite band and longtime crush, and the next she's working as a roadie for the band. I loved the way she got the job and her determination to prove herself. Their attraction is immediate, yet neither acts on it for a reasonable amount of time. The tension build-up was fantastic and I liked how their friendship and mutual respect came first. This was an unconventional love story with plenty of reasons why it shouldn't work. Kinley being the biggest obstacle of all. I enjoyed their relationship and the background story on the road. I grew to love Quinn. Quinn during a storm is a fantasy come true.

Rock and Romance. This book was an enjoyable way to escape on a Sunday afternoon. I will definitely read more of Brooklyn Ann's books.
