The client's budding egg enterprise and blue-ribbon hen, Thelma, are sure to boost revenue to the new business, especially with Bonnie's customizing touch on the design.
Unfortunately, feathers begin to fly when the client's ex-boyfriend launches a dispute over Thelma's legal custody, only hours before the hen goes missing. And Detective Wright suspects fowl play when the ex's body turns up in a local lake before sundown.
Now Bonnie and Clyde are pecking on doors and scratching for clues to prove their friend's innocence, but a series of anonymous attacks threaten to scramble the newly hatched plan. Can Bonnie and Clyde crack the case in time? Or is this sleuthing duo finally out of cluck?

Bonnie Balfour is forty years young and owns a second chance shop in rural Bliss, Georgia. She has a handsome boyfriend, Mason Wright, who’s a local detective, plus she’s close to her grandmother, Gigi, and her parents who own a flower farm. Bonnie is a good person and when her friend, Louisa Eggers prize-winning hen, Thelma, is kidnapped—Bonnie’s determined to find Thelma so Louisa can continue making delicious soufflés. From the start, there are a couple of folks who seem highly suspicious as possible hen-nappers; however, one is soon murdered and the suspect pool becomes muddied.
Full of southern charm, down-to-earth characters, lots of clues to mull over, and an interesting sub-plot regarding a farmcation project the murder victim was involved in; this story is a pageturner from start to finish. The killer reveal was a jawdropper for me—I never would have thought!
I highly recommend this cozy mystery plus the three previous stories in the Bonnie & Clyde series.
I honestly reviewed an unedited digital arc provided by BookFunnel and the Author. All opinions are my own. Thank you.
I adore this author. She quickly became one of my favorite cozy mystery authors and she continues to grow and deliver wonderful stories with fantastic characters, charming settings, and mysteries the keep me engaged as a reader. Eyelet Witness is the 4th book in the Bonnie & Clyde Mysteries and continues the tradition of what readers have come to expect from this author. Bonnie is a wonderful character that readers will enjoy getting to know throughout the series. She is surrounded by a wonderful, strong cast of secondary characters, some of whom will get their own spin-off series. This time around, Bonnie is once again embroiled in another mystery, this one involving her new friend Louisa and her show chicken Thelma. When Thelma is kidnapped, Bonnie is determined to help find Thelma o that Louisa can continue making her delicious souffle's. Bonnie's romance with Sherrif Wright is also progressing nicely and I like that while he is protective and worries about Bonnie, he still appreciates her input while trying to minimize her involvement in his cases. There are several suspects and the reader must pay careful attention if they hold to solve the mystery before Bonnie.
This series is full of southern charm, wonderful characters, and a mystery that requires the reader to carefully follow the clues laid out before them. I have to say I was really surprised by the identity of the killer, this person was not on my radar. If you have not yet read this author, I highly recommend any of her books.
I voluntarily read a digital advanced reader copy provided to me by the author. The thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and were in no way impacted by the manner in which I received this book.
I really do adore this series. Eyelet Witness is my favorite yet. I love the character growth with each book. I'm excited we're going to get our first spin off with a few characters in this book. Julie Anne Lindsey is AMAZING!
I have loved each book in Julie Anne Lindsey’s Bonnie & Clyde Mysteries and highly recommend them to everyone!!
Eyelet Witness is book four of the series and was a fun one. When Louisa’s ex turns up murdered and her hen goes missing, she teams up with Bonnie to help solve the mystery. I think my favorite characters from this book were the three women who stepped in to support Bonnie when her ex was being a bully. Well done, ladies. I’m also glad to see more of Louisa and Thelma and am so excited they will be getting their own cozy series!! (No Farm No Foul coming soon.) Looking forward to seeing more of Eli, too. There was also a lot of development with Bonnie and Mason that will warm your heart. 🥰
This is quickly becoming one of my all time favorite cozy mystery series!!
Bonnie is helping her new friend, Louisa, with decorating her souffle stand. Louisa's ex wants custody of their hen, Thelma. After a fight, her ex is found dead. Bonnie helps prove Louisa is innocent.
I always love a trip to Bliss, Georgia. The characters are great and realistic. I love how the author shows how the previous murders have affected Bonnie. It makes her a more realistic character. I can't wait to read more.
I absolutely love the direction that this series is taking. I LOVE that Bonnie and the HANS are finally together :)
I'm happy that Thelma and Louisa are friends and the new series featuring them is going to be awesome!
Gigi is prepping for the opening of her store and I am excited to see the dynamic between her and Bonnie when they are working next door to each other. Also, Grant shows up and I didn't think it was possible to like him less than I already did, but it be possible LOL!
I always love Clyde and I thought it was so sweet when Thelma went missing and he was carrying around one of the feathers that she lost when they were playing together :)
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Another great cozy installment of the Bonnie & Clyde Mystery Series!
We're back in Bliss and this time Bonnie's new friend Louisa is the one in trouble when her ex wants custody of her prized hen, Thelma. Eventually, the hen goes missing and the ex is found dead. He's the only one who wanted the hen. If he's dead, then who has Thelma? Are both crimes related? Join Bonnie and her furry sidekick, Clyde, as they figure out the who dun it.
I really love Bonnie's continued growth in the series as she deals with personal matters and stands up for herself when a certain jerk comes into town. And I love the deeper introduction to Thelma and Louisa. It's the perfect thing to get us excited for the spin off!
I listened to the audio book version of Eyelet Witness and as with the other books in the series it held my interest and the drive to work and home evaporated with each sentence. The only downside, the next audio book in this series isn't out yet and I'm not the most patient of fans. If you love cozy mystery with wonderful characters and a slow simmering romance this series is for you. Well done Julie Anne Lindsey!
With Eyelet Witness, the fourth book in the Bonnie and Clyde Mysteries, Julie Anne Lindsey once again proves that she is the Queen of Cozies!
Lindsey’s characters are ones any cozy mystery reader would want to be friends with, they have lots of heart, make the reader smile with their humor, and are always there for each other… even if the suspect is from the rival neighboring town.
The mysteries are always good with lots of suspects and a couple of red herrings thrown in to keep you guessing. And what I really, really love about the books in this series is that Lindsey gives us a full story, but by keeping the pages down closer to 200 than 300 we don’t get all the filler of the sleuth going over the clues a hundred times. With so many books in this world to read, I don’t have time for filler!
Looking forward to the spin-off series with Louisa and her chicken, Thelma, as well as book five in the Bonnie and Clyde Mysteries, Flared Stiff, which comes out May of 2022.
This was one of the best books in this series. I love Louisa from the other series, so I was really surprised to see that she was involved in the murder mystery in this book. Both Bonnie and Louisa were investigating the case, and at times Louisa was ahead of Bonnie in this. The relationship between Bonnie and Mason is really growing and I like reading about how close they're getting to each other. As always, the murder is just an added bonus. I'm here for the characters in this series :)
Eyelet Witness is the fourth book in Julie Anne Lindsey's Bonnie and Clyde Mysteries series. Bonnie's resales shop, Bless Her Heart is flourishing. She's making new friends, even though they may live in a rival city. When Louisa visits the shop for some dresses, she's served paperwork that indicate she's being sued for custody of her prized hen, Thelma. Apparently Louisa's ex-boyfriend had plans for the chicken that Louisa opted not to pursue.
Later, Thelma goes missing from Louisa's home. As the entire town of Meadowbrook looks for Thelma, a body is discovered in a local body of water. The body happens to be Louisa's ex and she becomes the prime suspect. What ensues are several twists and turns, surprise revelations, and secrets that are revealed. Bonnie does her best to help her friend, follow clues, and stay out of the crosshairs of a killer.
I loved Eyelet Witness. The characters, setting, and plot are engaging. The murder isn’t the only theme in the book, giving the book a lot of realism. The book is also full of excellent imagery, character development, and a great story. Bonnie, Clyde, Mason, Gigi, Louisa, and Thelma are fun characters. I enjoyed the chicken caper, murder mystery, and learning about the lifestyles in the adjacent town.
The author's writing style is fluid, and the pacing is perfect. The story is so easy to read that when I reached the end, I couldn’t believe I was done already. I found myself engaged and completely captivated in the story from the very beginning. I really enjoyed Eyelet Witness and can't wait for the next book.
Every visit to Bliss makes me want to move there to spend time with the residents, particularly Bonnie, her grandmother Gigi, and now, Louisa and her hen, Thelma. The mystery was well written and the clues were properly placed to keep you guessing. I loved learning about the cottagecore community. It was another wonderful addition to the series and I will be sad when it ends. Highly recommended, although start with the first to really immerse yourself into the community.
I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Welcome back to Bliss! It's almost Valentine's Day, but unfortunately death doesn't take a holiday. Luckily this time the murder is in neighboring Cromwell, unluckily the dead man is Bonnie's new friend Louisa's ex-boyfriend. Worse yet, Louisa's blue ribbon chicken, Thelma, is missing, we learn there is a custody battle over the little hen. Poor Bonnie has no idea what is in store with feathers flying, abandoned donkeys, farmcations, Meadowbrook cottage core community, soufflé shops and a big brooding lumberjack/blacksmith has her head spinning. If that isn't enough Bonnie has her recently released Good Luck Falls calendar, Gigi's bakery grand opening and many sweet, tender moments with the HANS. Like I said, welcome back to Bliss. I agreed to read and give an honest review of the ARC ebook sent by the author.
Incredible. I have no idea how she can continue to knock my socks off but she does. Small town drama, laugh out loud situations, and swoon worthy characters are what brings me back time and time again.
Julie writes the perfect combination of Cozy Mystery and RomCom.
I cannot wait for the next book in the series and the spin off series to follow. Keep ‘em coming Cozy Queen!!
After a bumpy patch in her life and the end of a very unhappy marriage, Bonnie Balfour is finally finding happiness and balance in Bliss. Her shop in the downtown district of her beloved hometown is thriving, and so is her relationship with Sherriff Mason Wright. As Eyelit Witness begins, Bonnie is sharing upcycled vintage dresses with new friend Louisa. As she tries on dresses, Louisa tells Bonnie about her messy breakup with her ex. But before she finished the story, a process serve presents Louisa with papers: her ex is suing for custody of her prize chicken, Thelma. What begins as a frustrating shock quickly escalates into a deadly plot, one that tender-hearted Bonnie just can't walk away from.
Bonnie is the friend we all want on our sides when the going gets tough. She's thoughtful and kind, fiercely loyal and protective. Readers get to know more of the town residents in each book, slowly settling in as neighbors and friends. Unfortunately, we also met Bonnie's smarmy ex-husband. And, as much as I would have enjoyed a showdown between Grant and Mason, Julie Anne Lindsey writes the perfect scene.
I always know I'll get a geat read from this author, and I'm eager for Bonnie's continuing story!
Yes! There's a missing chicken! If you've been reading the Bonnie & Clyde Mystery series, you've met this chicken before. If you haven't, you're still going to worry... I absolutely love this series, and I definitely recommend starting with book one. There's so much character growth throughout the books, and you'll miss a lot! For those of you who've read the first three, let me know if you agree!
In Eyelet Witness, Bonnie's minding her own business...as always...when another murder drops in her lap. And a chicken goes missing! This is a really special chicken because it belongs to one of Bonnie's new friends. Bonnie's relationships get stronger throughout the series, and this book is no exception.
I love the characters in this series, and the mysteries are always fun to solve with Bonnie. These books have lots of humor and lots of heart. If you love cozy mystery books, you need to read the Bonnie & Clyde Mysteries.
I love this series a little more with each new book! Julie Anne Lindsey is a master at slow burn romances in her other series, but I really enjoy how she’s moving things along in Bonnie & Clyde. The attention to Bonnie’s mental health is so well written without weighing the story down. That’s a refreshing aspect compared to other cozies and just makes the character even more real. Thelma and Louisa are adorable and I instantly fell in love with them in the last book, so I was eggcited to see the very end of the book. You’ll just have to read it to find out what I’m talking about! The mystery kept me guessing, so I was surprised by the reveal of the murderer. Once again, I recommend this series and everything by this author wholeheartedly! Julie Anne Lindsey will forever and always be an auto-buy author for me!
I received a free arc of this title in exchange for an honest review.
Another epic adventure in the Bonnie and Clyde Mystery series! I could not put this book down! So glad this book came out around the holidays so I could gift this amazing series to the friends and family I love 🥰
A fun cozy in a small southern town full of charm and some humor. The characters are wonderful and there was an interesting murder mystery with plenty of red herrings. I was surprised by the ending.
This is my favorite in the series to date! I'm in love with how these characters keep growing and developing. In this book we start to learn more about the surrounding areas and the wonderful characters who live there. We now have a whole new world to dive into! The murder was great, the mystery was brilliant but you still get all the character development you want in a series! I love the mental health awareness and growth of all the people involved, I cannot wait for what Julie has to offer us next! Small not real spoiler this one has a lumberjack and I LOVE lumberjacks, not going to ruin if he is good or bad that I'll leave up to you to find out!
Just when you think you this series can't get any funnier it does. I love the characters that I know will soon be starring in their own series. I can't wait to keep reading both series. There is nothing Julie Anne Lindsey cannot do. I would read her grocery list.
Thanks to author Julie Anne Lindsey & BookFunnel for a digital advance reader copy. All comments and opinions are my own.
Amateur sleuth Bonnie Balfour once again finds herself compelled to solve a murder that occurs in her small southern town. She is lucky that her boyfriend is the hunky sheriff. In this episode, a dislikeable out-of-towner is murdered and a prize-winning hen goes missing. Additionally, Bonnie's grandmother Gigi is opening a new coffeeshop/bakery called Oh My Goodies. The town is also home to a book store called What The Dickens. Thelma, a new friend of Bonnie's, is the owner of Louisa, a blue ribbon-winning chicken. And Bonnie's pet cat is named Clyde. Plus the book titles. This is a cozy, after all, so it's not surprising that the names are smile-inducing.
What I like about Bonnie is that after an acrimonious and painful divorce at age 40, she leaves the big city and opens "Bless Her Heart," a cute second chance shop in her home town of Bliss, Georgia. (And another cutely named business). Bonnie "sees the beauty and possibility in everything" which she puts to use by sprucing up and reinventing castoff items. Readers will realize that Bonnie has reinvented herself in the process.
In each book Bonnie ends up solving a murder that she can't resist investigating even though it's dangerous. In this episode Bonnie meets with a therapist where they discuss her panic attacks. I really appreciated the acknowledgement that discovering bodies and solving murders which end up putting her in danger are affecting her. In addition, they discuss why she feels the need to interject herself into murder investigations. I haven't come across this topic in any cozy and think it balances out the typical cozy lightheartedness.
This is book four in the series, but author Lindsey includes enough backstory details that you can easily read this one first without feeling lost. To sum it up, this is a traditional cozy with several possible suspects, a surprise murderer, light romance, the warmth and familiarity of a small town, and the promise of more mysteries to come.
Title: Eyelet Witness Author: Julie Anne Lindsey Publication: 12/15/2021 Genre: Cozy Mystery Series: Book 4 in the Bonnie & Clyde Mysteries My Rating: Loved It!
Series background: Bonnie, our main sleuth, runs a second chance shop in Bliss, Georgia with her sidekick cat Clyde.
In short: Bonnie is helping; a local friend, Louisa, re-decorate her startup souffle stand. Louisa is currently in a custody battle with her ex over her prize winning hen Thelma. Next thing you know the hen is missing and her ex is found dead in the lake.
What to expect: Memorable, charismatic, intriguing characters. A pet hen, Thelma. A murder mystery who’s victim is threatening Louisa’s community & plenty of red herrings to keeping you guessing on the culprit. Bonnie falls further for Mason while also being forced to confront her past and ex husband.
My thoughts: I adore this series and it just keeps getting better! Bonnie is a kick and the characters are the best (both recurring and newly introduced). Bonnie, her grandmother Gigi and boyfriend/sheriff Mason are people you’d want as friends or to come to your aid. This book introduced Louisa, who is from the neighboring community, and she was so intriguing; from her pet hen to her souffle stand to the cottagecore community she lives in. (I can’t wait to start her spin off series). One thing I really enjoyed in this book is that Bonnie was pushed out of her comfort zone and confronted her ex-husband and past with the encouragement and support of Mason and seeking help with a mental health specialist.
The murder mystery in this book was well written, from making readers not like the victim at the beginning of the book to investigating and following the clues. I think even Bonnie was shocked at the end when the real murdered was revealed.
Mason's eyes widened as he searched for the source of the sound. "Is that a--" Thelma strutted into view, cocking her over-feathered head to stare up at the six-foot-three-inch man before her. Bawk, bawk, bawk.
Mason's mouth pressed into a thin line. Clyde pranced along behind her, keeping his distance while somehow managing to act as if they were playing a game. Louisa scooped the bird into a cuddle, kissed her head, then tucked her back into the carrier. "Sorry," she said. “I guess she probably shouldn't be roaming loose in a nice store like this.”
My description: Bonnie and Clyde are back! In this series entry we really get to see Louisa and her chicken Thelma (look for a spin off series coming soon!) as well as the Cromwell cottagecore community, Louisa’s possible love interest Eli, and frenemy Mary. Gigi is making progress on Oh My Goodies, and Bonnie’s parents are busy with their Valentine rush. Bonnie’s ex shows up and while Mason is protective, Bonnie manages to stand up for herself and hopefully banishes him for good.
How it made you feel: Proud to be a cozy queen–this is an example of the best cozy mysteries have to offer–a wonderful cast of characters, a mystery to solve while dealing with important topics and showing how to get help.
Best part: Hard to choose but maybe when Bonnie stands up to Grant.
One word description: Empowered
Would you recommend?
You should be reading this series, and if you aren’t, you are in luck since you have 4 books waiting AND the series will be available on Kindle Unlimited soon.
Thank you to the author for providing an electronic copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Bonnie is running her second-chance shop in Bliss, Georgia, and enjoying time spent with Mason, the hunky sheriff. She befriends a young woman who is getting ready to open a soufflé stand. Then the young woman’s prize-winning hen vanishes, and when her entire community is out searching for Louisa’s hen Thelma, Bonnie and Mason discover the body of Louisa’s ex-boyfriend, who had been planning a large development on the site of Louisa’s simple sustenance community. Bonnie and Louisa turn out to be more alike than they had realized, as Louisa is also driven to find the truth (and her hen). And Bonnie’s grandmother, Gigi, and the rest of the Bliss community all have their parts to play, especially when Bonnie’s ex-husband shows up with a set of demands. Bliss is, as the name suggests, a happy place, with people who are kind and committed to helping each other. The author has forced Bonnie to leave her comfort zone, into the neighboring community. At forty-ish, Bonnie is learning a lot about herself and others, and it is rewarding to see her gain strength and a sense of who she is. This is the fourth in the series, and it will be fascinating to see where Bonnie (and cat Clyde) go next!
This is the fourth in the series and I just loved it. The continuing characters just get better and better. We learn more of their background, what drives them, and what their position in the community and to each other is.
In this episode, we are introduced to Louisa and Thelma, a Polish chicken. Thelma is kidnapped after the death of Ben Reid, Louisa’s ex-boyfriend.
Grant, Bonnie’s ex-husband shows up in Bliss and he is full of hatred and is determined to bully Bonnie.
Gigi, opens her bakery on Valentine’s day.
Louisa and Bonnie team up to find Thelma and investigate Ben’s death.
I learned about cottagecore villages. The premise is living simpler and doing with less. I don’t manual labor but being weary every evening and not having enough money to meet your needs is not something I aspire to do.
I enjoyed the mystery and it’s unique premise. I also think it’s great that this book leads to a spinoff series for Louis and Thelma in Cromwell and Meadowbrook, Georgia. The reveals about Grant, Lexi, Mason, and Bonnie really make me look forward to the next installment.
I was given an advanced copy and am not required to leave a positive review.
Eyelet Witness, book four of the Bonnie and Clyde Mystery Series, is another brilliantly written " who done it" masterpiece! Bonnie is always ready to help those in need so when Louisa is on the brink of losing her show stopping hen, Thelma to an ex boyfriend, Bonnie promises to help her make things right. But what can Bonnie do when the hen in question goes missing and the ex boyfriend's body is found in the lake? Will Bonnie discover the culprit before more lives are taken, including her own? Author Julie Anne Lindsey has become one of my favorite cozy mystery authors! The fun loving characters including Bonnie and my favorite, bow tie wearing cat, Clyde, will make you wish you were part of the Bliss, Georgia community. I always look forward to reading the next installment in my new favorite series! I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for my honest review! All thoughts and opinions are truly my own!
So, I know I keep saying this, but I LOVE this series! It just keeps getting better. I love that Julie is able to play with cozy mystery stereotypes and do things that are a little bit different while also being enjoyable. This book really sets up the spinoff series with Thelma and Louisa. There's also a different sort of mystery here - we have a murder, of course. Louisa Eggers, Bonnie Balfour's new friend and chicken farmer, used to date a man named Ben while living on her off-the-grid cottagecore farm. Ben turns up dead, but then Thelma, Louisa's prize chicken, goes missing too. We have the murder, but we also have a missing chicken. Did the same person do both crimes, or do we have separate criminals on the loose? In this one, I guessed what was going on, but the intrigue and motive behind it all is super-fascinating. Louisa is becoming a sleuth in her own right, and I'm excited to see where the next Bonnie book goes as well as Louisa's own series.
