On the trail of a Dark Angels vessel thought lost since the Horus Heresy, Lazarus meets with the planetary governor of the world that's kept it sealed away since it crashed there to keep the monster within at bay.
It's here that he learns that the purpose of the knightly orders of old Caliban, and the Dark Angels themselves, are one and the same – to ride into the black to kill monsters, where no one else can.
READ IT BECAUSE Secretive as they are, revealing tales of the Dark Angels are few and far between. This is one.
Gary Kloster continues to impress with this, his first straight 40k story. The Buried Beast leans into the archetype of Dark Angels as knights as we see the newly-resurrected Lazarus wrestle with his own internal daemons as well as the titular Beast. It’s not going to win any grand literary prizes, but this is a satisfying short that, like so many from the Advent range, hint at the welcome possibility of a follow-up novel.
A fairly decent story; had no idea who Lazarus was beforehand though but considering this is his first story appearance outside of background material, I think Gary did a great job fleshing him out.
