Sharp's Cove #1

One Night Years Ago

Natalie Bowmann still has nightmares of her last encounter with Hunter Fowler twelve years earlier. Now, Fowler’s back in town.

When he was twenty, Hunter Fowler made a huge mistake. He’s spent the last twelve years in prison paying for it. When he gets out of prison, the last thing he wants to do is go back to Sharp’s Cove, but he has no choice.

Natalie Bowmann isn’t a frightened young woman anymore. She’s the town’s sheriff now and she’s not going to let Fowler’s return destroy the life she’s built for herself. But when another young woman is attacked, Natalie realizes two things: that twelve years earlier an innocent man was sent to prison and, most importantly, that a monster is loose in their peaceful coastal town.

Will Hunter and Natalie be able to find him before he strikes again? What will they do with the growing attraction between them?

This suspense romance book is intended for adult readers. Each book in the series can be read as a standalone romance.

Warning: one of the characters was assaulted years earlier, and remembers the assault at several points during the story.

I was extremely curious to see how the romance between these two protagonists would unfold after reading the blurb. It is what led me to read this story. The problem has been that there was no development whatsoever.

The first chapters were better than good, all the trauma and all the anguish that surrounds the heroine are more than justified. There are several chapters in which each protagonist describes how is her/his life (before they interact again) and they are the best in the story. I was so interested in how they were going to get over all that heartbreak and trauma. But everything fades as soon as they see each other twice (if I remember correctly) and they go from being paralyzed by fear to feeling tingles of attraction. It was like falling off a cliff that appears out of nowhere.
From there I must admit that I have detached myself from the story. I felt the dialogues cloying and the characters one-dimensional.

The suspense hasn't been particularly interesting either, the bad guy is glimpsed early in the story and there are plenty of loose ends left that make it hard to believe.
A pity because the beginning was very interesting.

***

Interesting story about a rapist killer on the loose. Natalie was raped 13 years ago; she is now the sheriff of her small town, and she’s having to deal with the man accused of raping her being released from prison and moving back to her town. The small town is very against this man returning to town, and they let him know it; especially when more women are attacked. Hunter was the man that went to prison for the attack on Natalie, but there’s a lot more to the story. Both Natalie and Hunter are going to need to put their differences aside to figure things out.

Good twist; you think the story is going one way and then surprise! It goes another way. I had an idea fairly early who was causing problems; I ended up being correct, but it was still entertaining getting to the reveal. This story has dark elements; the rape goes into some detail, and brutality is detailed; violence and such. I don’t think the stuff Hunter had to deal with in prison was necessary to add into this story. I’m okay with dark elements, but others may not be. There’s a bit of romance going on too; it’s a sweet connection and I liked the couple together. Natalie is a strong lady. Hunter made some majorly stupid decisions and he definitely paid for it; made me question his intelligence, but he has a good heart.

Overall, entertaining story that drew me in. I would’ve liked a bit more depth to the characters and relationships, but still enjoyed how the story progressed. There is a mostly resolved story here, but there are some cliffhanger scenarios still at play. Excited to read the next book!

True lover

I love romance. The saying is true, you can't help who loves you. That saying is true for Natalie and Hunter. A lie and misunderstanding 13 years ago cause her to hate him. She thought he was the one that raped, beat and mutilated her. He's released after serving his time and they lock eyes, they have this strange attraction from that one look. She thought she would always hate him. He only wants to protect her from the real rapist that out there. He has to go to his family farm and take care of his mother and twin brother. Once he's back in town, the attacks start up and it's only natural they think it's him. They are on a race against time to find the real killer, bodies are adding up. He's become bold after his first attempt. The towns folks terrorize him and his family so much, his mother rarely goes into town. She knows her son is innocent but he confessed to keep his little brother outta trouble. The attacks become more brazen and he's picking people to taunt the sheriff. It all comes to a head when he drugs and attacks the sheriff in her own home. Hunter comes to check on her and ends up tied to a chair and beaten half to death. They had to work as a team to try to defeat him. I love the suspense, the drama, the little comedy and definitely the action. The only thing I didn't like about this story was that Hunter allowed the older towns men to beat and bully him. Not only them but Natalie's friends as well. I am glad they found each other and was able to put the past behind them in order to find true love ❤. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Y Natalie, igual.

This is a new author and series for me and I found the book to be emotional, engaging and interesting and it held my attention the end. The book is expertly written and draws the reader in from the first page, I was unable to put the book down.

The past comes back with a vengeance to small town, 13 years ago Natalie was raped and Hunter was sent to prison for 12 years , now he is free and back in town. All Hunter wants to do is to left alone to live his life after he took the fall for a crime he did not commit. the town is very protective of their own and lets Hunter know he is not welcome. When the real rapist and killer crawls out of the woodwork, Natalie realizes that Hunter is innocent and starts to reevaluate the crimes and situations. The chemistry between Natalie and Hunter was intense and they start to fall in love while investigating the murders/ rapes. Lots of action, surprises with twists and turns and a surprise reveal.

The story line and characters are well developed with depth and growth and while Natalie and Hunter gets a HEA, the underlying plot will continue with a new couple. This is a dark and sometimes gritty and brutal read with very vivid and emotional recounting of events and the real rapists attempt at a second go at Natalie, and I do not recommend this book for sensitive readers. Excellent Read

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Hunter was leaving prison after serving 12 years, but the direction the guard was leading him did not have an exit. The former sheriff was waiting in the room for him with a gun pointed at his heart advising him to not return to Sharp's Cove.

Natalie woke soaking wet from a nightmare. Although is it really a nightmare if you lived it? Today is the day her rapist is released from prison. She took a shower to get ready for her day at work. She was the new Sheriff of Sharp's Cove and knew she would be under the microscope today with people wanting to see her reaction to the news.

This book is absolutely amazing! It will take you in directions you aren't expecting.

I love the characters in this book. They are all well developed and I felt part of the small town of Sharp's Cove. JR Pace makes these characters come to life.

Natalie is amazing. Despite the trauma of the rape that almost killed her she not only survived but became sheriff. And the man who she thought had ruined her life actually gave her back her life.

Hunter was a tormented man. In doing what he thought was right he realized too late the real damage he cost Natalie, but it was too late once the course was taken. He would do anything for love - even prison.

I would highly recommend this book. It is a wonderful mystery full of romance and suspense. This book is screen worthy. Looking forward to reading more in this series.

Good suspense:
Recently released from prison after taking the fall for someone else, Hunter returns to Sharp's Cove where he has to face the hostility and ire of the town. To complicate matters, the current sheriff, Natalie, is the victim and tensions are high whenever their paths cross. When they start to work together to find the real perpetrator they can no longer deny the feelings they have for each other and it was lovely seeing them find love and healing together.
I thought the book was well paced and there were enough twists and turns to keep my interest. I particularly enjoyed the suspense aspects but would have liked the romance and main characters personal growth to have been developed further.
It was also a little difficult to read at times due to the sexual assault and violence and this may be a trigger for some people. Whilst things were resolved to a certain extent it looks like some will be carried over to future books in the series and this facet of the ending was rather improbable too.

Sometimes you find an unsung hero of a book and this was one of them. The enemy to lovers aspect had a unique slant which I found refreshing (I don't mean in the sense of the topic was murder and rape!). Natalie is a resilient heroine who has been through such a traumatic event. Hunter, the quiet unassuming hero has equally bad his fair share of trauma. I loved how the story unravels and the two interact. The characterisation completely drew me in. My only gripe was the lack of animosity from Hunter, which would have been totally understandable and expected. It was lacking and rather than displaying guilt, Natalie seemed more annoyed with Hunter than anything else. Although Hunter's twin Jesse is mentality a child in a man's body, I sometimes felt that way about Hunter too.. but that could just be due to the time spent in prison.

The end was a little rushed and abrupt compared to the pace of the rest of story, leaving me feeling a little flat. Ultimately it is a very good read, lacks drama suspense and a decent bit of romance. I will definitely read this author again and the next book in the series.

The truth is freeing and deadly

What would you do to protect someone you love? One night twelve years earlier changed the lives of Hunter and Natalie. Upon his release from prison, he returns to Sharp's Cove. The town and Natalie now the sheriff are less than thrilled with his return. When women are attacked in the same manner as the attack that sent him to prison, the two work together to find out what really happened that night years ago. Both are equally surprised to find they are attracted to each other. Forever changed by the events of that night, they find healing, understanding and love in each others arms. With the psychopath bent on destroying them closer than anyone realizes, it's a race to stop him before he kills them.

Page Turner!!

I started this Book & couldn't put it down til I was done. I can't wait to see what unfolds in Book 2! The Twists & Turns are riveting. I started having an Idea of who the Monster was quite a few Chapters beforehand, but that's bc I was looking for every little Hint in the Author's Wording, such as the Monster's Build, etc. In Order to not make this a Spoiler Review, I'm ending this here.

To Future Readers: Don't think about it, just Read it! If you Love Suspense w/ some Unexpected Romance, like I do, You'll thank me later! 💙🦋💜

Thank you J.R. Pace for a Fantastic Read! Be Safe!! Happy Holidays!! 🎄🎅🎉

Hunter Fowler has spent the last twelve years in prison paying for a mistake. Now he's back in Sharp's Cove where it all happened. Natalie Bowmann is now the sheriff and is determined not to let Hunter's return destroy the life she's made since her assault. But things are not as they seemed back then, and now a killer is on the loose in their town.

This is the first book in the series, and I really enjoyed it. The book does have a dark subject matter, but it's well-written and easy to focus on the romance and happier parts. I loved Hunter and Natalie's story. I read this captivating tale in one sitting and am looking to the next book. I highly recommend this book.

Easy read

This book will hook you from start. It is a little cheesy, but I think the story was good, although it had the potential to be better. I feel that the "romance" part was a little rushed, taking into consideration the back story of both MCs.
I would have loved to see the MMC developed a little more. We didn't get to see much of his true self throughout the book.
The FMC's ptsd could have been developed a little more. After all, it was pretty traumatic.
Also, it would have been a little more interesting if the whole truth wouldn't have come out so qucik. The story could have used a little more enemies to lover energy and some yearning.

This is an enemies to lovers small town romantic suspense story with strong ,well developed characters in Hunter and Natalie. The author does a great job describing both her characters and scenes in vivid detail and pulled me in with all the twists and turns throughout. She deals with some tough issues and handles them beautifully. She adds in the growing feelings as they help each other heal and find love along the way. I loved reading their story and would recommend this book.

This book has enough suspense to have you hanging off your seat. When Hunter is released from jail after 12 yrs and returned to Sharps Cove, trouble finds him again. Natalie, who has such a powerful personality, isn't about to let Hunter get to her anymore. But when there is another attack and she finds out that he's innocent, everything changes. With them needing to now work together, can the spark that flickers between them grow?

This well-written book 1 in the Sharp's Cove Book Series is a wonderful story and a has great characters. The characters are believably well-crafted and they react in a realistic fashion. There is drama, tension, danger, mystery, and romance. This story has action, adventure, danger, twists/turns, chemistry and love with a HEA that must be worked for. These characters have wonderful personalities that are brought alive by this Author

Trigger warning but well written

I wavered between 3 and 4 starts for this book. As a suspense / thriller it hits the spot, a serial rapist is terrorising a small town and everyone is hunting for him. But as for enemies to lovers that didn't really come into it so much.

This book was well written and cleverly thought out. I didn't guess who was involved till near the end of the book so that's always a bonus. I really liked the characters but I think a little more background or depth would have made it even better. All in all a good read.

Constant intensity regarding a local serial killer and the town's determination to blame the guy who went to jail but didn't do it

I just felt Hunter didn't commit the crime the first time I met him which was the day he was getting out of prison. He was stoic but nice. Tough but caring. A survivor. As the story unfolds and we learn the backstory, we see what kind of person Hunter was even 12 years ago. The mystery is tricky because you know we all try to figure it out as we read the story, right??? But this one can baffle you.

3.5 stars.

I really felt for Hunter! He stood up to protect his brother and went to prison for a crime he didn’t commit. I found it hard to believe that the proper procedure and investigation was never followed at the time. DNA that was never processed etc...

There is a lot of action throughout the story. It’s hard for the locals to believe that Hunter is not the perpetrator when another young girl is raped and murdered, leading to some nasty scenes. Natalie finds herself falling for Hunter especially once she realises he was not the one who brutalised her years ago.

The plot was promising. The first several pages seemed to be too. But it just tumbled downhill the entirety lot the book. It was very two dimensional and I didn’t connect with anyone or anything, least of all Natalie and hunters relationship. My biggest irritation though was the fact that the dialogue was so unrealistic. Every single time someone addresses someone else, they used their name. It was so distractingly repetitive and fake sounding I could barely concentrate. I’m confused why the editor didn’t immediately have that changed.

Wow! Exciting Reading!

Really enjoyed reading this story, Hunter wrongfully accused of rape, trying to cover for his innocent brother. He was released from prison after twelve years, and headed home to his mother and brother. He was treated badly by the people in the town. The young girl who was raped went on to become the sheriff. There were more rapes and deaths, Hunter was finally cleared after someone else was raped. Hunter and Natalie went through a lot and ended up together, even though the rapist got away. Very interesting reading and hard to put down!

Sharp’s Cove ... small town storyline

The storyline had great potential. The small town drama and charm are believable and the characters are tied together well. Hunter and Natalie find their paths crossed again and there is plenty of drama but it all falls flat. They seem almost mechanical, devoid of the emotional turmoil you would expect with the backstories and the steam level is pretty tepid. That said, it was an entertaining read.

Easy, enjoyable read.. the strength in love ❤️

This the first book l have read of this author & l enjoyed the storyline. I enjoy this genre as you get a little bit of everything. This book is based on Natalie & Hunter who have not had easy lives on the past 13 years.. but with some suspense, anger & bit of love thrown the story comes together. Off to read the 2nd book in the series 😃

Wow! When I started this book, I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but it was amazing. Hunter went to prison for a crime he did not commit but now one believe. Rachel believed it was Hunter so her father, the sheriff, sends him to prison. Now it is 12 years later, and Hunter is paroled, and the sheriff is now Rachel. This book had me on the edge of my seat. I don't want to spoil this for anyone so, I will just tell you that it was incredible.

This started off really well, the writing was good, the angst and the trauma were real and the story interesting. But then after about the second meeting it’s suddenly full on attraction, she forgives him invites him to stay and they immediately sleep together and then I gave up. I skipped to the end to see who dunnit but it the enemies to lovers bit was ridiculous and there was no depth to any of it.

I am not sure that I even know where to begin writing a review for this because it is truly an awesome experience.

I loved everything about it - the characters, the plot, the emotion, the writing.
The author had a tremendous ability in telling the story that had me wanting this book to go on and on.
