There's been a lot of local press about this book, and it lives up to the hype. This is comfort food at its finest, with lots of shortcuts to get it on the table quickly. The book skews heavily towards Italian food, and the best recipes (for me) were the classics - the stuffed peppers, eggplant meatballs. The starters were also good, and the least interesting to me were the mixed (fusion) recipes.
This is family-friendly food - the taste is good and comforting, but nothing is too spicey or nuanced. There is a lot of cheese, and most of these are pretty heavy. You could lighten them up - using low sodium or fat soups, possibly lowering the cheese quantity a little. And her guidance and tips (like when you really need to shred your own cheese) are on-point.
While I don't think I'd cook like this everyday, this is worth checking out for some family-friendly, quick ideas. I have two friends who have moved out of the area and complain that they can't get 'Jersey Italian' food where they live. We are spoiled here. They will be getting copies of this book for their birthday.
