Monsters' Touch

Rate this book
They’ll do everything to have me—and I’ll let them.
I’ve been losing time. Hours slip by, leaving me with no memory at all. What starts as a fleeting reprieve from the shackles of depression turns into something much more intimate and carnal than I could have imagined.

Teeth and claws don’t scare me.
Not when razor blades and hash marks have been my solace for so long.
But maybe they should…

Because when the four demons who possess me reveal their soul-collecting plans for me, I can only do one thing.

Submit. Willingly.

They call me their host, but they might be the ones who show me everything this life has to offer.

Monsters’ Touch is a standalone RH novel that deals with themes of depression and self-harm. It is intended for mature readers.

Maybe more like 2.75.

So, I'm in a a bit of a book rut, where I'm after the impossible which is an excellent Urban Fantasy I haven't already read, with an engaging plot, proper characterisation and a chemistry laden slow burn romance. After wasting so much time scrolling die books I figured I'd guve this a go, as I like a monster book.

It started off okay, as having a female MC who was genuinely sifvering from a mental illness was a nice change of pace to your typical leather clad smart ass, but quickly this all just got a little silly and shallow for me.

There was so much unexplained and so many plot holes. The second half just turned into this 'anything goes' sort of explanation and she randomly starts having psychic sex with these demons, then the book comes just about that.

Yeah, this is one of those sorts of books really. Not bad, if that's what you want to read, but I was hoping for something more.

3 stars. Check Trigger Warnings!!

Okay so I'm not entirely sure where to go with this so I'll just use a basic pros and cons list.

Pros:
1. Points for originality. It's always interesting to see how authors spin the whole supernatural world because I think everyone does it slightly differently. I also have an absurd fascination with all things hellscape and demonkind that my religious trauma would have a field day with. Having a combination of demon lore and original superhuman world building really tickled my pickle so to speak.

2. Points for a realistic depiction of depression. I'm not too sure how accurate it is because my depression is not that bad (Thank God) and I have a different response to numbness than our dear MC here but I have no doubt that some will see their symptoms in this character.

3. Points for storytelling and not moral lessons. Especially with point number 2, and the way the MC manages her relationship with the guys, I feel like it was really important for the author to be telling a story and have you take a stance on whether it was right or wrong rather than making it obvious that this is the way something should be handled or this is the wrong thing to do or whichever. The author did succeed with that thankfully, for me at least, I never got the feeling that the author was trying to sell us on anything.

Cons
1. That whole scene with Typhon and Rhygel? No<3. It came out of absolutely nowhere and was not appreciated. It felt like it was just there for the author to say, hey there's some m/m action in this. There was no indication of sexual or romantic between them for the vast majority of the book, and it also felt kind of unnecessary. It didn't contribute to the plot or the characters at all.

2. When there was maybe a quarter of the story left, the MC became a completely different person. And not in a character development way, where we can see that they're changing slowly but surely. It's like she suddenly started snapping at someone who she thinks is more powerful than her and who's kind of doing her a favor when before she was an anxious mess who never got angry. Not that if she'd changed it would be a bad thing, but it happened so suddenly and with no buildup.

3. I feel like I really needed more story. Why did she stop self harming 10 years ago? Have you and Michelle been friends all this time? If you were born this way then why are you just now seeing supernatural things or was it that you were seeing them before? What brought on the urge to break up with your boyfriend? Which of your parents did you inherit the healer thing from? After they have sex, it feels like the plot is barely there without much information or background.

This was still an entertaining story and I do like the author's writing voice so I will probably read more of them. However, this just wasn't the best of stories and there were many parts that did not fit.

Wow. I devoured this book. Jewel always manages to pull me straight into her worlds and I am so here for it.

Monsters Touch is a fantastic book! I was worried about how the self harm would be written into the story, but Jewel didn't make it uncomfortable to read about at all, it was like she thoroughly understood and wrote it absolutely perfectly.

I love books with demons in and this did not disappoint! I loved everything about Lily and her demons, from her real world problems (totally relatable) to the steamy scenes. I am sad that their story is over but I can't wait to see what Jewel brings out next!

I enjoyed the originality of this plot, I think the author’s spin of a monster romance was very creative.

The FMC, Lily/Lils, has many life struggles (please read the trigger warnings) that were well written. As the book continues she evolves into a completely different person, someone stronger and more sure of herself. I think her transformation and the steps she made were my favorite parts of the book. I wanted to cheer her on after each milestone. She is such a likable and real character.

When it came to the demons, each had their own distinct personality and connected to Lils in their own way. As she grew, they grew as well. I admired their loyalty to each other and Lils. They always tried to do their best and ensure that Lils was comfortable, they validated her feelings and understood her limitations as well as their own.

I would have loved a bit more focus on the demon side of the story, maybe more about their world and the politics. As well as more details of some revelations near the ending of the book. Again, it felt a little rushed.

Overall I enjoyed the originality and creativity of this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

This was definitely a uniquely interesting read. Lily was used to battling her "inner demons" with self harm. As someone who has personal experience with this topic, I appreciated the author's handling of it. The "inner demons" give way to actual demons who possess Lily and start to help her overcome the emptiness and loneliness that she feels. Barbas is my favorite because he constantly shows her how he feels and tries to make her feel better when he senses her sadness. I can't say too much as not to spoil anything, but I love how in the end she finds a way to be with them.

Monster’s Touch is my third book that I’ve read by Jewel Killian and I think it’s safe to say now that she’s made it into my ‘must read’ list.

This book isn’t a ‘typical’ romance in the usual sense, so I was struggling with that aspect of it to start with. This is definitely not my usual sort of read! But I’m really glad that I persisted. And the relationships certainly grow to a romantic level in their own time.

It was chapter nine where I swapped from ‘skeptical’ to ‘sucked in’. And it happened quickly! I went from not being sure that I wanted to keep reading, to wanting the story to hurry up and reveal more, because I was so curious about what was coming next!

Lily is a rather unique lead character. While the story is told through 5 alternating points of view, we spend the most time with her. She is struggling with her mental health and we are invited quite deep inside of her mind to experience her pain first hand. I found it both confronting and eye opening.

Monster’s Touch is a reverse harem novel, so no surprises that there are multiple main men. Not so common, they are demons that Lily only communicates with inside her mind.

Each of the boys is unique, with their own positive and negative character traits. This isn’t a particularly long book, but each of the characters is well filled out and we get plenty of time to get to know them.

I loved the way that the story built between the 5 main characters. Each plays their part in helping Lily to move forward from her mental struggles & there is quite a deep emotional bond, even before the sexy times begin. I think it’s fair to say that this crew start with friendship and build from there.

As this is a reverse harem, the spicy scenes really are spicy. 5 chilis spicy. If you object to multiple partners or mixing it up a bit between the group, this book may not be for you.

I think Jewel Killian sums it up best herself when she warns her readers to “Expect explicit descriptions of psychic sex, MM, and group stuff where the main theme is “that’s not going to fit.” “

If you’re a fan of a spicy paranormal story with a real emotional depth, then this will suit you well.

Thank you to Jewel Killian for my copy of this ebook.

Lily and her demons

I loved it! First let me address the warning. This book has elements of self injury in it. I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner who deals with this theme daily with my patients so going in I was a bit leary. However, this is a work of fiction and I truly believe the author was sensitive to the subject and approached it the right way. There is a passage in the book that discusses her reasons for self harming and what self harm does for those who use it as a means to feel better. She hit the reasoning spot on. It was perfect. That alone made me love the book. Many cannot process the concept and those who experience cannot always verbalize what they get from it. I was so impressed.

Now for the more light hearted areas. Lily had such an awakening in this book and truly had a metamorphosis. It was a pleasure to read. Her men all had different, distinct personalities and you never had to to figure out who was who because Jewel made sure each character had a distinctive way about them that is sometimes hard to accomplish in a RH book. As Lily grew, they too grew and developed. The hotness factor was a slower build but very much worth it. There was an excellent balance of story and steam. If you enjoy a more dynamic book then this is one for you. Go grab it. I don't think you will be disappointed. Keep em coming Jewel!

Loved it!

“That night teaches me two things. First, never ever have invisible demon sex in your favorite matching lounge set. And second, that the title Pleasure Dom is exactly as exhausting and liberating as it seems.”

✨Slightly spoiler-y review time✨
I loved this story. Lily was a character that struggles with depression and self harm so be aware of that if it’s something that might trigger you but the way Jewel Killian wrote her struggles was done with care and I thought the character growth and happily ever after Lily and her demons received at the end was beautiful. When I was reading this book, I often times got the message that regardless of how hard you may be struggling with depression (and mental illness in general) you’re stronger than you know and still a bad ass.

The demon possession and the way the demons were able to interact with Lily and the reasoning they had to posses her in the first place was really interesting to me too!

I’ve gotta shout out her Blood Song Duet here too because it’s set in the same world and I got super excited when some familiar faces appeared.

The spice? 👌🏻 soo gooood. Group play, swords crossing, a vibrating tongue , and thick demon dong.

Jewel has done it again, I'm flabbergasted.

I was hesitant going into this one after reading the warnings for self harm. It's something that I've always had a hard time reading about, but I have to say the way it was handled here was beautifully done. It was still, of course, heartbreaking but it wasn't glorified or blown over.

Lily was an enthralling character from her first pages. I read this book in just over 2 hours, THAT'S how sucked in I was. I've already gone back and read some of my favorite parts! Back to Lily, she's AMAZING. I really loved her. She was not a simple character and seeing her navigate her life while coping with it was entrancing.

Rhygel, Barbas, Tyohn and Mal are some seriously incredible characters themselves. I think Mal was my favorite but how do you really choose in this case? Again we got the perfect mix of humor and horror and the book kept us on our toes. I got to the last page and when I tell you I went out of body for a second...I flipped back and forth so many times because the ending snuck up on me and I was still ravenous!

This book was everything and I hope that maybe we get a novella or something. This was just such a great story and I could read it a hundred times over. Who am I kidding? I will!

Very interesting

SPOILER ALERT........ ...

This was different than any book ive read before but i really really loved itt. Lil is so relatable and (possible Trigger warning) but the fact that the author discussed Lils beed to cut herself makes her so incredibly relatable to someone who has been there before its actually nice to see an author express this without tiptoeing around it. Yea its a hard subject buy with what Lil felt at those times I can completely get it and not only does it add dimension and relatability but it helps to see her state of mind , how it fluctuates, and the different ways she uses her coping mechanisms to cope and how that changes with what shes feeling.
Holy hell the demons!!! I LOVE that they dont just look like men. I LOVE that they care about humans and come to love, understand and respect Lil. I LOVE LOVE the premise and how the author created not only their world and Lilies but how she connected the two and then figured out how to make it all work.
This book is SO SO DIFFERENT and INTERESTING. And steamy and lovey and just.... Yea all the feels. ABSOLUTE MUST READ !!!!

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

OMG I had so much fun with this book!! It is totally different from all the other books that I read. We meet Lily as she is going through a huge depression which has taken over her life creating huge gaps of missing time that she cannot account for. She is pretty much hiding from everyone and everything. What she doesn't now is that a group of four demons are possessing her in order to harvest souls as they pass in order to place well in a trial in their home plane. Things start straight forward enough then she starts being able to kick them out, see things, and pretty much be aware when she shouldn't be. This makes for quite the intriguing story as this all plays out and they manage to fall in love. I loved her ingenuity when it came to finally being able to physically be with them. Made for quite the fascinatingly fun read that is sure to delight fans of supernatural RH romance. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

Incredible Writing

Lily struggles with her mental health, and has been losing hours of her day, with little to no memory of what happened. Well, that's because four demons have possessed her, and she isn't too bothered by that. She's their host, but they're the ones showing her all about life, and the fun that comes with it.

Please be mindful of the trigger warnings, as there is mental health issues, and self harm mentioned. I loved Lily's character and the way she handled not only having four demons possess her, but also with her health. She's a very strong character and she shows the audience it's OK not to be ok.

The book is steamy, and reverse harem, which I absolutely loved. It did take a long time to get to any of this though, and on top of that the pacing felt slower that normal. But the overall book was fantastic and I commend the author for writing about tough and triggering topics with great care.

I loved this book!!

Lily is our FMC and she struggles with her mental health. She has been losing time a lot lately, and has no memory of what happens during that time. Little does she know, 4 demons have been possessing her. Rhygel, Typhon, Malphas, and Barbas have been using Lily as their host, while also showing her how different her life could be.

I couldn't stop reading this book!! I love how strong Lily is, I love the guys. Jewel handled the hard topics in this books so damn well and wrote them beautifully. The world's are described so well you can easily picture them. I just all around love this book!!

If you love demons, RH, funny banter and all the feels, READ THIS BOOK!!!!

I loved this book. I wasn't 100% sure how this book was going to go but I read it in one sitting. I couldn't put it down! This was a really original story. Lils was so strong, and Jewel Killian did an amazing job of talking and describing Lils mental health issues and helping her to work through them. I am always so glad to see when an author is able to add a mental health issue into a book without overtaking the story and describes it in a way that people are able to understand the struggle of dealing with these things. Lils and her demons are so supportive of one another and understanding. The steamy scenes in this book were HOT! There are a few trigger warnings so definitely be aware of those but if those don't bother you, this is a must read!

I saw this book on TikTok and decided to give it ago because it sounded unique. let me tell you, I have never read a book like this. the plot is so unique and so well thought out.

this is my first ever paranormal romance read and I am obsessed 😍 I love that every demon had a different effect on Lils and that they all had their own way of communicating with her.

the spice-to-plot ratio is perfect in my opinion. there was a nice balance. the spice was SO GOOD too. let’s just say the authors note at the start of the book was 100% correct 😳 ifykyk.

please please recommend me other paranormal romance with lots of smut and spice please 😩

Monsters Touch was a fun and steamy read!! I also like that there was honest dialogue here about mental health as well. Lily made so much progress from where we started at the beginning of this book and I love that her demons helped her do that but she also did that for herself. The story itself was really good and original, I loved the concept. Lily’s demons were all amazing and so different from each other. It’s kind of nice that they couldn’t be together in person and only through the mind at first because I feel like it lead to an even more solid connection. The steamy scenes were perfect and I loved the crossover with Eden!

I love Lily she is such a relatable character with real life struggles that we all go through. I can honestly say I felt what she is going through and when an author can hit deep in your soul and make you sit up and take notice that makes the journey and the experience even better. Rhygel, Barbas, Tyohn and Mal are great. The way they just fit with Lily and made each other whole had my little heart melting. Lets not forget about them hot and steamy scenes lord Lily and her demons are spicy AF and I am here for it. This was a fantastic standalone that gets you blood pumping. Great storyline great characters and a definite must read.

Monsters’ Touch is my first book by Jewel Killian and what an introduction. It was fantastic and a great addition to the Monster genre.

Lily’s life is mundane at best. The only thing keeping her sane are the blackout periods she can’t remember. When those memory loss periods start to feel like a possession, she can’t help but submit.

I loved the story and it’s unique take on possession. Of course the demons are hot 🥵. I loved their own unique personalities and the relationship they build with Lily individually. Lily’s character was brilliant and her growth throughout the story was amazing. Monsters’ Touch is definitely one to add to your monster TBR list.

This was one kooky and quite enjoyable book.

Lily is a character that one can relate to. She has her doubts and insecurities as well as emotional stuff that has effected her. Doesn’t help that all of sudden she’s losing time and hearing voices that make her think she’s completely lost it. Well the voices are real and who they belong to - Rhygel, Typhon, Mal and Barbas - will confuse you a bit but so worth it when you get acquainted with them.

You’re in for a treat with this story and the steam level takes its time but you’ll be happy.

It took me a little bit to get into this book. I honestly think it was just me because every time I picked it back up, it got better and better. The last quarter of this book was the absolute best. Lils is living a boring life doing the same repetitive things until she gets possessed by some hot demons. Lils seems to be more than just an average human and together with her demons they are taking over. I was so glad I stuck with this and kept reading. If demons/monsters are your thing, you’ll love this one too.

I devoured this book!

Monsters' Touch is a fantastic read! It has it all! A great story and imaginative world. Action, self growth, and steamy monster love! What's there not to love? I love Lils character most. I wasn't sure if I would be able to handle the self harm part, due to understanding all to well, but Jewel wad able to capture all this feelings and put them down perfectly through her words. I am so happy Lils was able to find, through her monsters, something to stop that pain. I am only sad because there is no more to read! Fantastic book, thank you Jewel

This was a story of Lily that has mental health problems. She’s suffering from hours of time that are missing and doesn’t know or understand why this is happening. But she eventually finds out that she is host to four different demons. She soon learns that they will not harm her but show her different things. This was a wonderful story but it has triggers but it was written very well to make you understand why. I liked the storyline and the characters as they pull you into the story! I was so fortunate to get a copy of this book from the author but the options below are my own.

I devoured this, like I couldn't put it down. Monsters' touch takes my guilty pleasure of RH and love of fantasy romance and smashes them together in a super interesting way.

I was super impressed with the way Jewel approached the subject of SH and dissasociation. Respectful yet eye opening.

I wish I could have seen a little more of the changes to the demon realm at the end but other than that great read.

Good, quick read

I wasn't 100% sure what to expect going in to this book. I found the author on TikTok and couldn't wait to read about a heroine who struggled with mental health issues in a way that resonates with so many of us.

I really loved Lily's growth throughout the story, I just wish she had become more dependant on herself than the demons.

The four demons had such different and well defined personalities. I don't know if I'm sold on monster romance, but I did enjoy the story overall.

I loved this book! While I found it starting off a bit slow, the more I read, the deeper I became entrenched in this world. A relatable FMC with real-world problems and our demon horde with demon-world problems makes for an interesting and passionate (sometimes compassionate) read. I felt the full range of emotions throughout this book. The drama, back stories, paranormal and love make this worth the ride. I recommend this book 📖 👌

I absolutely loved the storyline! It is for sure a page turner. I adored the FMC, Lily, and her demons. The character development and world building are fantastic. Oh, and I cannot forget about the steam! OMG, HOT!

Oh my gosh the demons were delicious AF and I love how their personalities are all so different. Their relationship with Lily is unique and very intriguing.

The ending was absolutely perfect.

sweet demons

I love how kind and caring these demons are to their host. The story is fun, an easy read, and helped the miles pass during a cross country trip (thank you tablet battery gods). I also love the Easter egg cross reference with Jewel Killian’s newest release Wolves of the Midnight Stars. Maybe it will open the possibility for a character crossover? Either way it helps ties in the two universes together.

Hmmm…

I love the idea of Monsters’ Touch, and there are some really great moments. With that said, execution wasn’t the best. Quick read, but it felt like most of it was spent on internal monologue. Confrontations didn’t seem logical, and I’m fairly certain this whole tale was just a fever dream. The earlier spicy scenes are great, and the death with the older woman dying alone at home, stunning.

I can't say enough about how great a read this book is. The characters and plot really do it for me. I love when an author is able to bring personal growth and relationship growth together without making it seem forced. Lily was a very relatable heroine for me. All the spice scenes are on point and are truly the icing on this awesome cake. Happy Reading!
