About the author
Simon Oliver
207 books24 followersSimon Oliver was hatched in South London in 1969. Since that date he has consistently strived for mediocrity in a number of fields of employment, from cooking at the legendary Hacienda Club of Manchester in the late 1980's, scuba diving instructor in the planet's more tropical climes, to a career as a camera assistant in Hollywood. With such a spotty and heterogeneous employment record is seemed only fitting that the comic book would industry welcome him with open arms in 2005 for his writing debut in THE EXTERMINATORS.

Just when I thought the new reboot couldn't get any worse, they take away Gail Simone and Talent Caldwell and replace them with this. . .Simon Oliver and some rank amateur with absolutely NONE of Caldwell's artistic skill or flair to pencil in this third volume.
I am actually sorry to end my association with this superhero team. I always had a very special place in my heart for the original Gen 13 and that's only reason why I forced myself to endure this torture. I was running completely on nostalgia fuel, but now, thanks to this repulsive steaming pile of incompetence, that fuel tank has completely emptied out. There's only so much awkward dialogue and bad writing a man can take before he is forced to pull the plug.
I may not have been a tremendous fan of the first two volumes of the newly rebooted Gen 13, but at least I was able to bask in the glory of Talent Caldwell's stunning visuals. The writing may have been subpar and the characters boring (aside from the villainous, deliciously evil Megan and Dr. Cross), but there were occasional flashes of flair both visually and literally.
Epic Fail!

I enjoyed the gen 13 mini series (vol.1) and the second volume left with kind of a weird feeling since the characters were blown up. But volume 3 picks up where volume 2 leaves off with some fresh young heroes just getting their powers, i'm upset with the way this ended as the old team died but then they got better? then we just deus-ex-machina up some time travel and voila! old team is back and kicking again. The characters introduced in this arc will never be seen again and the main antagonist is never revealed and nothing gets resolved. it's just 16 issues of filler just to tell you that gen 13 is alive again and blah blah blah. I downloaded this and i'm glad i did waste my money. i just wish i could have my time back.

I enjoyed reading this one more than I thought I would; I was afraid it might be really terrible what with a new writer and artists taking over a rebooted universe that had never approached its original level of quality. It wasn't terrible at all (though I still didn't think it was nearly as good as the original version), and I enjoyed reading it. The art was pretty good up until the last section or two, and the writing lacked the snap of Simone's version but told the current story pretty well with a flash or two that made me smile.

Here we go, folks. Right here is the opus of the awfulness of the latest Gen13 reboot. This truly has to be experienced by everyone to be truly appreciated. It's like 15 minutes is the Manos Hands of Fate of Gen13 trades.
Where to even start? Well, throughout the course of this book we have 4 (or maybe more) artists who step in to pick up the pieces of a wasteland of a book no one wants to be associated with. The art is lacking to say the least and it made sense to me why the team is dressed as clowns during the whole book even though they're trying to fit into New York: their costumes are the only way we can distinguish who is who.
Oh, did I mention the team is now in New York and some new unexplained mediocre horror is upon them? Someone is trying to turn the team in on itself by making each member happy. It's the story none of us have ever read before. There is a bit of consolation though, as the dialogue and story telling is so inconsequential that you don't actually have to read the book to understand whats going on. Just look at the pictures and make something up. Chances are you'll follow everything just fine, and if you're lucky, you can come up with a better story line.
Thank you Gen13,for creating a new low in comics.
