Mercy Hills Pack #6

Omega's Flight

Rate this book
Legend says that Midwinter Wolf listens to the deepest wishes of a shifter's heart, and brings him what he most needs in the moment.

Raleigh's living the best life he can with his pups and his mate - until the simmering violence in his mating erupts and he and his pups run for the sanctuary of Mercy Hills. There, he begins to unfold the parts of his life he's kept hidden away and, most importantly, opens his heart to an alpha unlike any other he's ever met.

Cas was born the last and smallest of four extremely alpha alphas. He's learned to use wit and cunning to win his fights, but there's nothing he can do to protect his heart from the omega who comes calling on Midwinter Moon, looking for shelter and a chance at a new life. In that moment, the rebellious young alpha is brought firmly to heel as his heart recognizes the omega of his dreams.

But another alpha has a claim, if not on Raleigh's heart, then on his body. If Cas wants to keep him, he must use all his skills to win his mate free of the past. But can a single alpha wolf, no matter how determined, defeat years of tradition?

Omega's Flight is the sixth book in the ongoing saga of the Mercy Hills Shifter Pack. It contains adult themes and deals with themes of domestic violence, pregnancy loss, and depression.

Ann-Katrin Byrde did it again, as she has taken the job of amazing us too seriously.

I was quite interested in Raleigh’s character back when he appeared as a member of Bax’s previous mating’s pack. Finally getting his story sure did put my curiosity off the stove where it had been burning for so long.

Cas didn’t have much of shelf space in my mind, considering his not-so-dramatic references in the pack history until recently, but once I started reading this book and got to know him, and Raleigh, better, I was enamored by them both—individually as well as a couple.

The more books I read in this series, the more I fall in love with their world, the characters, and the direction the Mercy Hills Pack is taking. And now I cannot wait for the next one. :)

3.5 stars.

Let me preface my review by saying, I absolutely love the Mercy Hills series and I adore Ann Katrin Byrde as the author of the amazing Mercy Hills series. And here comes the but...

But! But this book had quite a bit of narrative inconsistencies. While I fully understand that AKB rewrote the middle sections and it was 118 chapters long, which made it difficult to keep track of everything, it doesn’t take away the fact that I was a tad bit frustrated with the book by the time I hit 40% or so.

I reread the book before writing this review. I’m usually pretty quick to finish a book but this has taken more than a week? Anyways, so I took the time to slowly go through it because the first read through was frantic on my part. I was already so so so anxious for it that I practically flew through it. So to give it a chance and myself a chance, I reread it.

It truly pains me because I absolutely LOVE the Mercy Hills series. There was a lot of interesting bits and pieces that didn’t go anywhere. I’m just wondering if they’re being thrown in to set up the rest of the books? If so, it should have been done better, rather than just ‘this has happened’ and there’s no mention of it again in the book. I don’t know... maybe I’m just weird and demanding 🙈

I did love Cas as a character though. He was funny and chivalrous and kind. He was also not the typical alpha with muscles on top of muscles. He was quite frankly, out of shape so it was funny when he kept offering to do physically straineous tasks for Raleigh and then we hear him chastise himself in his head. Too cute!

Raleigh.... I’m a little on the fence about. Which seems fitting cos to me, he just came across as someone who’s a little fickle. While I understand he was struggling with depression and his flip flopping was meant to show case that, i didn’t quite feel it...? Again, maybe I don’t quite understand depression?

As for the storyline, I’m rather convinced it was setting up the next few stories. So in that sense, it didn’t feel like there was much substance for this story. I loved the characters, don’t get me wrong. But I didn’t understand the point of Raleigh and Cas’ story.

I don’t know... maybe the anticipation amped up my expectations and I’m now wallowing a little over here 😖 I do think the next one will be great though. Pretty please!! 🙏🙏🙏

Yeah, it's a no to that much of attitude turn-around. Especially that fast. But would love to have my own copy of that children's picture book

I like Raleigh. The fact that his struggles are more "family" than "politics", plus some mental health sprinkled in, gives the book a homier feel than the previous stories. Raleigh and Cas have less altruistic ambitions, and it is palpable, yet their story feels more cozy because of it. Or as cozy as an angst story can get

Fleeing violence, needing a divorce, you get an alpha lawyer who wants to be a part of your life.

I love the Mercy Hills Pack series. The world is vibrant and alive, with characters that draw you into their lives. This is a long book, but worth the time to read it. There will be cute kids, the omega pack, revelations, ex trouble, bond breaking, and all- encompassing love. You will love this book!
Raleigh fled his pack with his three children after his mate beat him severely. Accepted into Mercy Hills, he starts a new life, while trying to keep his old pack from taking his children. He never expects to fall for one of the pack's lawyers. Cas is the youngest of the Alpha's family. Tax law is his forte. But this new omega needs a family lawyer. Cas is drawn to Raleigh, for more than just legal expertise. He wants Raleigh for his mate.
Yes, they get their HEA. The getting there is long, bumpy, and has unexpected turns. The power of the omega pack will be revealed. And we get one step closer to tearing down the walls.
Trigger: a miscarriage occurs. It is integral to the story, and was treated respectfully . I was moved by the poignancy of the event, and the aftermath. I do not think you will be offended in any way.
This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.

Overflowing with joy

I can't communicate how amazing and great this book is. Yes it is a long one. But this is not a simple story. It was amazing and perfect and so much to fathom and love. This is a book to add as a glue for the series. It was great to see Ori and Part from sanctuary find a home next door. To seeing how the shifter world is changing. I can't wait to read the next book. This world Ann-Katrin has created is so tangible and beautiful. I wish I could be there to see the omegas work their magic. Love your work. <3

A FLIGHT TO FIGHT FOR ONESELF

Raleigh flees from his abusive husband in Jackson-Jellystone to Mercy Hills. He is accepted into their enclave and meets Casimir Mercy Hills. Although he is still mated to Degan, Raleigh slowly falls for Cas. This story takes a person through the subjugation and belittling of a race, domestic abuse, and the belittling of a caste of people that are much more than they are treated to be. This story touches deep into some of today’s problems and comes out with a HEA to be thankful for.

“My gaze met Bax's and now I understood the change in him. It made you a different person, to be a person. To be seen and heard and respected, to ask or do or say and have things change, instead of the semi-invisibility I'd lived all my life.”

It’s hard to believe the author is already at book six in the ‘Mercy Hills Pack’ series. It seems like just yesterday I was discovering this author (and the series) and completely falling for this worldbuild, and Jason and Mac. Since then I’ve shared all of the ups and downs of each new couple, Abel and Bax, Bram and Duke, Quinn and Holland, and Laine and Garrick. It’s been a roller coaster ride more times than not but seeing every couple find their mate and get the happy ever afters they so deserve has been an exciting and fulfilling journey.

Excluding Bram, each of the omegas featured in the other volumes has suffered through horrific circumstances and made my heart hurt. Raleigh is no different although it takes him a while to realize that the way his pack treats omegas, the way his mate treats him, isn’t fair and that just because he’s an omega that shouldn’t make any difference. When Raleigh gets pregnant with his fourth (which his mate blames him for!) his mate gets physically angry with him and Raleigh accepts his brother’s offer to smuggle them out and to the bus to get to Mercy Hills. Raleigh and his pups make it safely to Mercy Hills but within a short time a medical emergency waylays Raleigh and leaves him reeling in depression. Thank you to the author for giving me a much-needed outlet for my tears as I shed quite a few (ugly crying, by the way) during this part of the book.

It's no secret that I love this series and that I've been looking forward to this book, and I can say that this book was SO worth the wait. I don't have words for how wonderfully paced this book was and how much I loved all the characters. Raleigh and Cas had great chemistry and they were such lovely characters, I especially loved how brave Raleigh was but how his experiences had real effects on him. And catching up with all the other characters! My favorites, Ori and Patton! Bax and Abel! All the little ones!

The plot was complex and involved a lot of story lines that are building on what has already happened in the previous books as well as building up for future books, and still followed Raleigh's journey to get a divorce and start a relationship with Cas and get his kids settled into Mercy Hills. This all SOUNDS like it would be an overwhelming read and the length would seem to back this, but Ms Byrde is an incredibly skilled author and story teller. The story flows so naturally and everything feels necessary, so you don't feel like the story drags anywhere. I honestly looked at how much more there was to read and I really said, "Oh no! Only 100 more pages left. D: "

I cannot recommend this series and this book in particular enough. I just spent three days of reading in every moment of free time, and I am about to re-read it again.

There are a few warnings (SPOILER), like some of the previous books it involves marital abuse and it also includes a miscarriage.

Wow, I don't think my heart was fully ready for Flight!
For anyone stepping into the Mercy Hills series for the first time, I'd strongly advise starting with book one because this is a complex, all-encompassing universe that really requires you to bond with the characters and their individual stories as you progress.

In Flight we meet Raleigh who flees with his pups from an abusive mate. He seeks shelter with Mercy Hills, not knowing whether this is enough to save him from having either himself or his pups forcible returned to their sire. While settling into the new way of life at Mercy Hills, he meets Cas; an eligible alpha who has no desire to settle down with a family...until he meets Raleigh and his pups.

Through Flight, we follow the progress of Raleigh as he learns how to be his own omega and finds his place among the Mercy Hills omegas. We also get the arrival of Pat and Ori from the book Sanctuary, and some other new omegas seeking shelter. I think I have lost a little bit of my heart to Julius and I hope to get more from him in future stories!

Overall, I can't recommend Flight highly enough. Ann-Katrin Byrde takes a genre which can be looked down on, and brings about the most compelling characters and stories. Make sure you set aside plenty time to read Flight, because it is long, and you won't want to put it down!

I ❤️❤️❤️❤️ this series!

It seems to have been an age since the last audiobook was released, but this has certainly made up for it!

AKB is just brilliant in her world building, characters and plots with their twists and turns. Dealing so delicately/sensitively with issues such as domestic violence etc.. just so well written!

AWESOME!

I really enjoyed this story! I have been waiting for Cas’s story and I was not disappointed! Cas is the best kind of Alpha. He’s sweet and has an awesome sense of humor. It will definitely be a reread kind of book!

This is the sixth book in the Mercy Hills Pack series

This is another example of how amazing this Author is every book in this series contains a wildly different Omega and Alpha were treated to their incredible love story their sorrow their pain also their triumphs . This time around it's the baby of the Alpha brother's Cas and his indomitable Omega this was another book in this series that moved me too tears this book made me cry so much it made me laugh just as much . These brother's are what I think of when I'm looking forward a real Alpha their not perfect no one is and that's what makes them so relatable their amazing Omegas who are a perfect match for them flawed but at the same time flawless . These books are about family pack a community of shifters who have been put behind walls made too be dependent on a government who only see them as monster's . They've had their heritage either taken from them or stolen denied the littlest of dignity shut away to basically for behind walls outside these walls racism is rapid . But these brother's and their mates have had enough and they will no longer let the humans dictate too them how they and their people will live anymore . It's time to reclaim their dignity their heritage their independence and their lives for their future of their children and their race . These books resonate with me because I'm African-American and my people have gone through still do what these shifter have experienced that's why this series have become one of my favorites . I still don't get why some people complain about the length of these books just enjoy the amazing ride thank you Author for another awesome book in your incredible series .

Ok, so I am feeling some type of way. I get this series is liberating the omegas but this book I have some issues with. I truly was waiting to read this book. This story has DV and miscarriage. Raleigh has only been away for 6 months and now he's over his marriage healed and in love with someone else. Trauma bonding forreal. The story at first started good highlighting DV and mental health but then we got fillers of the true omegas, budget , and etc. We missed alot of good things that could of made this the best story. It fell short. Raleigh is also an artist and we could of seen so much more depth about this. Cas as the lawyer should have never slept with a mated ( married man) even though I understand they are done, ( the marriage). Also, I feel Cas comprised all his desires to meet Raliegh. If we look at this book from this perspective. Raleigh has alot of trauma, 3 kids, very cautious, doesn't want marriage. Cas wants to mate, spoil his mate and kids, and kinky sex. Raleigh complained about his sexual language, doesn't want to mate, and wants to live like mates but not be mates. This may change but it's selfish. Honestly book 2 was well developed when seen the internal change and even book 4. Raleigh needed more time from wanting this relationship. I would of loved to seen less politics, more getting to know the MCs and love develop and redemption of the ex, especially for 21 hour story. I hope, the next one is better, and I have read all stories so far and short stories. This was a little disappointing

Cas and Raleigh

Another great installment to the series. I love the Mercy Hills pack and eagerly wait for the next books. While this was a much longer book, it was filled with the other pack members and pups that we came to love in the previous books. I love that aspect and adore the characters. I did take a star off, however, mostly because many parts of the book just were glossed over. Raleigh’s depression and catatonic result being the best example. It came seemingly out of nowhere and was resolved too quickly. We were told rather than shown his recovery. In the timeline it took four months but we didn’t see any of it. This resulted in my not warming up to Raleigh nearly as much as I could have. I did like Cas quite a bit, his internal thoughts made me laugh. Before the next book I really need to reread the other books in the series, it’s been too long since I visited my old friends.

Yikes

This book did not need to be this length if all the storylines interjected into the main one wasn’t going to get wrapped up. This couple also bored me to death compared to the others, and the plot with the kids and Degan could have been prevented if anyone used an ounce of common sense which Rowley clearly does not have. For an omega he lacks a big part of parental instincts. Like Pip doesn’t wanna go back to the guy, that beat while pregnant so you convince this child to go anyways, and then it’s all woe is me once the people you already know are trash try to take them from you. Hell, Cas had better instincts when it came to the kids but his character fell flat for me because he’s basically a doormat. Holland comes off as a complete (B****) But hey it’s better than a doormat.
Hopefully the next one is better because it took all my strength to even give this two stars, instead of the much deserving one, or zero if it was possible.

There is so much going on in this book it honestly could probably have been broken into two parts. I feel like I should have taken notes to keep everything straight.

We've got more information about Omegas coming to light. You've got Ori and Patton though we don't really hear anything about Mercy Hills communicating with their enclave. There's the back and forth with Raleigh's enclave because we all know Alpha Roland is an ass from previous books. We've got White River popping up for two different Omega incidents. Plus other background things going on with pack business.

Will say I'm upset about the Laine situation in the beginning that we get no update on besides him being there for the Degan situation.

Super impressed with Cas. Upset about Kaden and feel like something underhanded was going on with that mission he mentioned to Cas.

Curious where this serious is going since there seems to be so much groundwork things that will take many, many years to come to fruition.

Similar to the previous book my opinion and rating of the book might be a matter of taste and not a fault in the book.

That said. I really liked Raleigh. He is a new omega we get to know a little timid and withdrawn in the beginning but soon showing how fierce and strong he really is. I think I like how his romantic story developed and the ending suited his personality and all he went through.

Cas, I think he's funny, clever and a hard worker as well as sweet with Raleigh, I liked how he goes for him despite the prickles he has to deal with.

Then at about 60% of the book the pace started to drain my desire to continue, I just basically kept going because I wanted to read the end of their love story but it was difficult. Other subplots and background plots just kept taking time, there were scenes I considered unnecessary and others were dragged on unnecessarily.

In the end I give the book a 3 out of 5 and I seriously doubt I'll read it again.

118 chapters later and I’m done. Literally it had 118 chapters. I expected it to feel longer tho but it really didn’t. Much, at least.

It was good and I like this series

Heavy stuff in the beginning

I kinda hope the next one isn’t about ori and pat or whatever their names were bc like I didn’t connect to them at all.. the next one is probably about kaden tho bc like all the brothers gotta get a book of their own right

Idk how I feel about all the new omegas Felix and Julius or whatever they were called ,, rather read about Felix if I had to choose tho Julius is spoiled and pretty and we already got that in bram

Update: just checked and there isn’t any more books like there are short ones I think about ori and Patton and then about Salem and someone named Damian but idk im in the mood for that

But

If I don’t read them now, I probably won’t ever ..,,

This book was so worth the wait! The characters were so real and went through such difficult situations and handled them in realistic ways.
Raleigh's character was so wonderfully flawed and was put through the ringer! Some subjects were hard to read about, so trigger warning, but they were written well and respectively.
Cas's character was so great, just what Raleigh needed to get through the hard times. He was so patient and understanding and brought humor to situations that needed to be lightened.
The book also brings in the other couples and characters we have come to love from Mercy Hills!
Ann-Katrin Byrde thank you for taking me to Mercy Hills and letting me fall in love with everyone there! I cannot wait to find out about the other shifters in the pack.

Expect the unexpected!

This is a story of growth for Raleigh, Cas, and all of Mercy Hills. Raleigh fled his mate, Degan, with his children to Mercy Hills when violence from Degan erupted in front of his child. I applauded Raleigh for running because so many do not or cannot or excusing the violent perpetrator saying it will not happen again. In this story growth and solidifying unity amongst the omegas is demonstrated as you move further into this story. Raleigh’s growth is demonstrated as he resolves the dilemma of his children’s love for their father and his need to be with Cas.

Excellent story as always, Ann-Katrin!

An Excellent Read, As Always!!!

When I realized this book was available, I read it in about a day. I love the world building, the emotions and the humor put into all of Ms. Bird's books (yes, this made me cry) and as always, the ending did not disappoint!

These stories are very worth my while and some of the best ABO stories I'm ever going to read!

I can hardly wait for the next book in the series (which is painful because I know its going to be a while, since this just released but it's so worth the wait!) and hope there are many more to come from this author and this series!!!

Excellent

It took a long time for Raleigh and Cas to finally recognize their HEA for what it was, but it was such a great journey to take with them. I'm glad that the Mutch fortune is starting to be spread out beyond just Mercy Hills, and that Quin is actively promoting the end of enclosure policy.

Each one of these books opens up so much more into this world and everything that shifters have lost. It's awesome to see them be able to reclaim even the smallest parts of what they once were; as well as make new traditions and identities in their modern world.

The continuation of Mercy Hill shifter pack. If you read Sanctuary you will recognise a few people from that story. Kaden is introduced and not just mentioned. And as always Byrde have woven an nice intricate love story between baby brother alpha Cas and Raleigh a mated omega. Hang on to your handkerchief because this is an emotional story that will make you curse the ones that express themself through fist and root for the ones that have weak self-esteem but still a backbone to fight back for them self and for their pups.

I love these series. Very creative and a different take on the shifter society that's being subjugated by humans, thus all the struggles and triumphs within mental and physical enclosures of isolationist society.
I really liked that shifters not only struggle for equality with humans but also with the oppressive culture and traditions of their own society.
Each book is great and I always root for the next omega breaking off the shackles of expectations and traditions of their enclave and making a better life for themselves and, consequently, for the most liberally thinking pack.
