A billionaire is murdered and an ancient Egyptian relic is missing, one rumored to be cursed—and to be a clue to the greatest lost tomb ever known. The FBI needs brilliant history professor Remi Laurent more than ever as the case sends them on a wild hunt across the globe. Can she stop him in time?

FBI Special Agent Daniel Walker, 40, known for his ability to hunt killers, his street-smarts, and his disobedience, is singled out from the Behavioral Analysis Unit and assigned to the FBI’s new Antiquities unit. The unit, formed to hunt down priceless relics in the global world of antiquities, has no idea how to enter the mind of a murderer.

Remi Laurent, 34, brilliant history professor at Georgetown, is the world’s leading expert in obscure historic artifacts. Shocked when the FBI asks for her help to find a killer, she finds herself reluctantly partnered with this rude American FBI agent. Special Agent Walker and Remi Laurent are an unlikely duo, with his ability to enter killers’ minds and her unparalleled scholarship, the only thing they have in common, their determination to decode the clues and stop a killer.

The lost Egyptian relic points to many ancient Egyptian clues, all thought to have been dead ends, and leaves Remi just hours to decode a puzzle that has baffled archeologists for centuries. What exactly is the killer after? Where does he think the clues will lead him?

And can Remi outsmart him in time?

An unputdownable crime thriller featuring an unlikely partnership between a jaded FBI agent and a brilliant historian, the REMI LAURENT series is a riveting mystery, grounded in history, and packed with suspense and revelations that will leave you continuously in shock, and flipping pages late into the night.

good story.

I enjoy good adventure stories that combine mysteries with history and art. Ava Strong
has created an interesting series. However, the books are in need of a good editor. I realize that, as an English teacher, I am perhaps more critical than I should be, but the grammatical errors were distracting at times.

The series seems to be done so I’ll just ask what the heck the prologue of this book had to do with the series or even this one book?

This review is for the audible audiobook edition which at the time of writing is not shown on Goodreads. I know, I could ask the librarians to add it but that can take weeks if it even gets seen and actioned at all. No disrespect intended but their workload has increased drastically since Goodreads stopped people adding new editions themselves.

Anyway, the book is mostly well written and is nicely narrated, following on from the previous 4 titles in the series, with one major issue and one minor issue.

The major issue was Chapter 8 which is from a totally different book, some kind of Sci-Fi story with serving bots and artificial intelligence etc. Confusing and of course a whole chapter missing from the proper story.

The minor issue is where the agents are talking with a DCI in London, England who says the motive wasn't robbery as the victim still had £200 in his billfold. Ok, full marks for getting the correct currency but "billfold"? In England it's a wallet and it holds Notes not Bills.

The Deception Code is the best book in this series so far! It has mystery - they are searching for an enigma -, and at the same time, Remi is able to advance in her search for the next clue in the cryptex.
Remi and Daniel hop from one place to the other in order to find clues as to who is the person killing the owners of parts of an ancient Greek artifact and what it does. They also feel that their relationship is changing, they are not only partners and colleagues, what are they now and how will they deal with it?
I received a free copy of this book from the author and this is my honest opinion.

I would give it 4 stars, because I like this series. However, on audible, chapter 8 is a completely unrelated chapter from some Sci-if book! Not only do you have to get through that, but it also skips chapter 8 from this book!

3.5. Easy, quick reads. Some of the repetitive narration gets annoying, but the plot is still interesting.
