Welcome to Pathabhrashta. Manisha, a professor in Psychology, finds certain oddities with people whom she interacts with in this hill station. She realises that the place is governed like a social media and its citizens are treated as real-life-profiles. Everyone remains under constant surveillance. Virtually Lost is a story of what would happen if social media came to exist outside of its virtual state.
Virtually Lost by Shreyan Laha is a captivating and thought-provoking book that paints a dystopian world where society is structured like a social media platform.
The author has skillfully explored the consequences of a community governed by technology, and how it can impact our lives in subtle ways. The protagonist, Manisha, is stuck in Pathabhrashta, a place with very little memory and no privacy.
The well-paced plot is engaging, with enough twists and turns to keep the reader hooked. The characters' motivations are realistic and relatable, and the book raises important questions about our future. It is a must-read for anyone interested in exploring the impact of technology on society.
Manisha, a psychology professor wakes up at a bus stand she does not recognise. She soon realises that she is in Pathabhrashta based on the hoardings around and answers given by an individual.
Pathabhrashta is like a social media platform and the people living in it are real life profiles. Everything is being monitored, everybody's every action is scrutinized and you cannot escape it. Is Manisha just dreaming? Or does Pathabhrashta exist for real? Read the book to find out.
Virtually Lost by Shreyan Laha, like the name suggests is what Manisha, our protagonist is, lost in the virtual city of Pathabhrashta. We often find ourselves scrolling through social media and this book talks about how social media can overpower the real life and the consequences of the same. People are treated as profiles, the currency (monetriads) increase or decrease based upon how much one socialises. People beholding power can read the thoughts of others which points at the lack of privacy that social media offers. Basically, what if social media consumes us as a whole? A point worth thinking over, right?
The first third of the book talks about Pathabhrashta and how it works. It consumed me completely and I couldn't get enough of it. Gradually the pace slowed down and the frustration began increasing for I felt myself in Manisha's place. I found myself questioning about everything we share on social media and the amount of time we spend on it. The plot builds up gradually and is concluded nicely. Could have been a bit better toward the mid to end but I would choose to not complain. It was a good book.
With a super intriguing title and theme, this book was a joy to read. Do give this a try!
If you ask me I would put this book under the category of dystopian novels.
A world where social media has come alive, no wait, social media is the new world that humans live in. Yes that's the plot of the books. The author has drawn a world where everything in social media app is actually happening on the earth. Our protagonist suddenly finds herself in a world that doesn't look the real world. As she tries to know more about this e-world, the more she keeps on forgetting about the real world and about herself. Just imagine if our government and our society started running like these social media app... Would you be able to survive it? I am pretty sure, I would not. Reading this book felt like a rollercoaster ride, with amazing plot line, but at time the plot dipping down because of the exaggeration, but often picking up with some amazing concepts. For example I really enjoyed the concept of fourth dimension. The characters often feel very grey, instead of black and white and you end up reading futher just to how they would turn out to be. . Overall I feel it was a pretty good concept for a Dystopian, sci-fi novel.
🦄🦄🦄 Virtually Lost is a sci-fi novel by Shreyan Laha that feels like an an episode of Black Mirror. While reading the story your brain is fully aware that the story is not real, however, there is always a shadow of a doubt that this could be our future because of the elements that make it feel like it's a possibility and the way technology is advancing in our society. One of of the main elements of this book is how even with complete freedom to do whatever one wishes there will always be a part of our lives that we give up for the sake of enjoying an easy life. In this book's case, in order to enjoy life to the fullest the people living in this world have to give up their privacy and be monitored 24/7. Every footstep the take is monitored, every thought they think is known and there is no way out. This book caught my attention from the very beginning for a lot of reasons, one of them being the the interesting story line. But, it's not just tge story line that was impeccably done, the author has also given us an amazing world to dive into with a main character that smart resourceful and knows that she has to find a way out through perseverance. The world building overall seems (on the surface of it) to be generic because it's supposed to be e a simulation of what a city on eEarth looks like. However, there are details that make it stand out from a regular place on Earth in this small details slowly add up to a bigger picture as we go through the story. Overall, this was a pretty good read and I finished it within a day. But I will say that it is on the lengthier side and could have been a bit more compressed so that we good enjoy the story of a lot more for its quality content. 🦄🦄🦄 Rated 8/10 Melina L.
Manisha, a psychology professor, notices several peculiarities in the people she meets in the hill town of Pathabhrashta. The technocratic metropolis of Pathabhrasta was created to fit the ideal society. The entire city is technologically run, and monetriads serve as the primary medium of exchange. All citizens are under constant government observation and have their lives completely under control, thanks to wristbands. She comes to understand that the community operates exactly like a social media platform, with residents being treated like online personas. Everyone continues to be watched over closely. Shreyan Laha's story Virtually Lost imagines what would happen if social media spread beyond its current borders.
My Thoughts: Social media has the potential to be both a blessing and a curse, depending on its application. The dystopian science fiction novel Virtually Lost by Shreyan Laha skillfully investigates the results of a technologically controlled society and how it might gently alter our lives. All cults are founded on the principles of kindness and communal solidarity, but in order to ensure that their members are compliant, the leaders frequently disregard these ideals and turn to violence and harsh punishment against anyone who dissents. Virtually Lost captures this sour reality of civilization brilliantly. The author uses first person perspective so we get the entire psychological pictures of mind. The language is easy. It has a fast pace having an engrossing plot. So, it is definitely a page turner. In the beginning it's a slow burn as it needs to be as the author establishes a whole new world. In the end, it's has a marvellous climax where author showcases his skills in manipulation of plot in his whole new established setting. Virtually Lost though a fiction is actually portray reality. Overall, with its twists and turns, this dystopian science fiction can blow your mind.
"Virtually lost" is a science fiction portraying the story of a psychology professor Manisha who finds herself in a strange world, a world which is governed like social media and all the people living there are like real time social media profiles under the constant surveillance of authorities. Even their thoughts and memories could be monitored.
She wakes up in a bus with everything around her steady and she doesn't remember a single thing about her life except her name. On exploring, she finds everything so confusing & strange and tried to escape. But how can she even think of escaping a place where mere thoughts could be monitored? Will she be successful in escaping?
The plot is really creative and the author has put in a lot of planning behind this book. The execution is equally good. I could relate to all the stress and ambiguity Manisha was going through. I binge read this book on weekend and it kept me hooked. There are a few parts in the first half of the book that are unnecessarily stretched but other than that, it is indeed a creative piece of writing. This book shows what would happen if social media came to exist in real life. It shows how some people are so engrossed in making their social life exciting and presentable in front of strangers that they sometimes neglect their personal life and peace.
A creative plot along with lucid narration, this book is especially recommended to people who like sci-fi or are social media geeks.
This is an amazing scientific fiction. Most of us spend a lot of time online using social media. In today's world data privacy is a big question mark! Though there are pros and cons of using smartphones and Social media, we could see many people getting addicted to these things and eventually losing their whole life. This story is written in such a way that both the positives and negatives of social media are discussed.
The story is all about a young woman named Manisha. One fine day she finds herself in a very different and mysterious place called Pathabhrashta. Here every human is considered as a social media profile and they are tracked by the government in every possible way. Even the thoughts of every human are being traced by the government. Since there was no privacy, she was in an urge to escape out of that world. When the government is able track even a single move, is it really possible for her to get out of that world ?
Being set in a speculative dystopian concept, the climax of this story is unexpectedly thrilling. This story might become a reality in near future where our every move can be tracked thus no private life will be there even for a single human being. The first part of the book was a bit slow but it was getting better as we read further. Would recommend to everyone especially the sci-fi lovers !
Virtually Lost by Shreyan Laha takes readers on a captivating journey through a city where social media becomes a tangible reality. The author's ingenious concept immediately grabs the reader's attention and keeps them hooked until the very end. Laha's writing style is engaging and flows seamlessly, making it easy to get lost in the story.
The exploration of themes such as privacy, authenticity, and human connection in the digital age is both timely and thought-provoking. Laha skillfully delves into the consequences of a society governed by constant surveillance and the impact it has on individuals. Through the eyes of Manisha, the protagonist, readers gain a deeper understanding of the importance of genuine human interactions and the dangers of living in a world where virtual profiles take precedence over real-life experiences.
The author's attention to detail and vivid descriptions bring the city and its inhabitants to life, making the reader feel like they are a part of this dystopian reality. Manisha's journey of self-discovery and her determination to challenge the status quo create a compelling narrative that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish.
Overall, Virtually Lost is a captivating and enlightening science fiction novel. Shreyan Laha's unique storytelling and exploration of relevant themes make this book a must-read for anyone interested in the implications of the digital age. It serves as a reminder to cherish our privacy, embrace authenticity, and nurture genuine human connections in a world that is becoming increasingly virtual.
Most interesting one of all I have been reading all these days! I was never a fan of science fiction until now. What forced me to choose this book 'Virtually Lost' was its idea. One question in fact, 'how the world would look like if social media became a reality?' The storyline, however, roams far around just this mere idea. It is deep into science and technology! The plot itself is hypothetical, a 4th-dimensional world containing all the way 3- dimensional elements in it. Manisha, a psychologist, became a victim of this mere experiment of carrying out this city, driven according to the rules of any social media application. Manisha's way of approaching this tiring environment is psychological. She began utilising her knowledge and her study into deciphering the puzzle place she encounters against her will, she tries to find out the reason, the functioning, getting into the politics of the city, unintentionally making the decisions that meant wrong fates and finally finding the way out. There are few little themes occupying space other than sci-fi, these are friendships, guilt, tiredness, movements of happiness and sadness which keep the readers engaged, sympathizing with the characters. I loved the character development done by the author. Also, there were some grammatical mistakes or typing errors within the book but despite these little imperfections, I had an overwhelming experience and was quite engaged within the story that I felt empty as soon as I finished it. 😅 Maybe I related far too much with the characters than expected...
There are few authors who write on such varied genres that one can just feel awed by the kind of talent and skillset they posess. This book is penned by one such writer.
Social media is both a boon and a bane depending upon how one use it. It has its own merits and demerits just like every other thing in this world. Through this story the author has created a world where humans are nothing but social media profiles and their movements and every single activity is tracked by officials. The protagonist of the story Manisha feels insecure and wants to leave this place asap. Will she be able to come out of this mysterious place? Grab the book to find out.
The story is written well. It makes us wonder that as humans how much we have made ourselves dependent on SM that we have basically reduced to mere puppets in the hands of people who can keep an eye on our day to day life. The title is apt. It would have been an ever better book had the story been truncated a bit especially the first half. Notwithstanding the minor glitches it is still a book worth picking up.
Manisha finds herself in a stranded bus terminus and comes to know that she is not where she intended to go. She can't remember anything except her name and her parents, she doesn't know where she is from! She has no idea why she got on the bus which is now standing in a ghost town!
She was a Psychology Professor in her past life and now she finds herself in a place called "Pathabhrashta". The place she's dropped off resembles social media and every move is tracked by the authorities and humans are nothing more than profiles. Now she wants to solve this riddle ridden place and escape this virtual world! Find out if she escapes or if she gets sucked into the world of Pathabhrashta.
The idea of the book is well executed and the writing style is easy without the excessive use of superfluous words, the character is well written with depth and intricacy,l and the plot is unique and stands apart from the mass!! ... So what are you waiting for go grab your copy today!!

Virtually Lost is a story of what would happen if social media came to exist outside of its virtual state. . 💭 Writing a book based on life in virtual reality is really hard. And this author has tried her best tbh but this book is definitely not for me. Being stuck in a world where you forgot about your past life (parents, where you live, etc) and the only thing you remember is your name, it's hard to process what's really going on. . 💭 Here, Manisha goes through this and I don't know how it ends because it has typical astrology vocab which is hard to understand (for me). Whenever they started talking about dimensions and the protocols of the city "Pathabrasta" being honest, I didn't understand a thing. This is my dystopian novel and two others are on my tbr. And Idk what I'm gonna do. ☹️ .
Have you even imagined that you will find yourself in an unknown land ?
All your memories wiped away and you don't seem to know who you are ?
This is the exact situation the protagonist of this book Manisha found herself in.
Manisha steps into a so called utopian virtual world where the authorities claim that everyone can do as they desire.
However , conditions applied.
Manisha badly wants to escape from this land. But she tries but unable to.
I loved how the author penned this book. It was filled with suspense and had a errie silence in it with me speculating what's going to happen to Manisha or the city soon.
I am surely going to check out the authors other works.
Have you ever imagined what would happen if you were virtually lost if social media would be reality.
Well this fiction book will make you feel just like that. This book is a sci fi where the protagonist Manisha is transported to a virtual world Pathabrashta a new society which is like a social media app, we can literally call it the E world and while Manisha is transported there she has no recollection of her old memories besides her name. What happens once she’s succumbed there through her we learn about that world too but what about her fate, will she survive? will she escape? For that you need to buy your copy and get lost in the pages of this book.
The author has conceptualised an amazing plot line. The book is a little lengthy but read it with a pinch if salt as along the line you will be amaze with some concepts that the author has offered. It’s a unique story and the author has conveyed it with simple narrative.
I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys sci-fi and also to the ones who are virtually lost in the world of social media. It’s a book of fantasy which you will binge through.
This book is an interesting read. I found it all very interesting and it's my first book by Shreyan Laha. He has a way of telling a story that makes you want to read on. The book that I will suggest to you folks today is an exceptionally captivating and extremely fascinating book. The substance of this book will make you fall head over heels for this book. Indeed, even their contemplations and recollections could be checked. Manisha winds up in an abandoned transport end and comes to realize that she isn't where she planned to go. She can't recollect anything except her name and her folks, she doesn't have the foggiest idea where she is from! She has no clue about why she got on the transport which is currently remaining in a phantom town! presently she ends up in a different and baffling spot called Pathabhrashta. Here each human is considered an online entertainment profile and they are followed by the public authority in every way under the sun. Indeed, even the contemplations of every human are being followed by the public authority. Since there was no security, she was in a desire to escape from that world. At the point when the public authority is capable track even a solitary maneuver, is it truly feasible for her to escape that world? The writer kept up with the advantages of this read which acted like a charming plot, utter turns which successfully conveyed a significant example to the readers. The portrayal is first-rate, and how he makes sense of a few complex things with no sweat is truly great. The speed of the book is nice and perfectly executed to associate perusers with the story. Additionally, he attempts a lot to associate the episodes with genuine for instance he notices that as Manisha attempts to find out about this world, the more she continues overlooking this present reality, which demonstrates how we fail to remember this present reality while burning through our part of the time in online entertainment.

What if you lost your reality?? What if you come to know that you are just a profile regulated by some kind of app with no privacy and strict surveillance?? And comes to know that it is almost impossible to escape. It's horrific right!! These are some hard hitting and frightening questions raised and depicted by "SHREYAN LAHA" with brilliant execution of imagination. 🌟 ✨ Recently finished "VIRTUALLY LOST", a science fiction story about social media and about it's impact in a very unique way. Book consists 300+ pages which makes it little bit lengthy but once you involved with its realism it becomes binge-read for you.✨ ✨ So story revolves around Manisha ( a Psychology professor), lost in a place named Pathabhrashta which is very weird and different for her. Later on she comes to know that the place is governed like a social media and its citizens are treated as real-life-profiles. In this place, everybody was wearing a digital wristband in their hand which became their identity in this strange world and being monitored continuously. Manisha was surprised of the place and wants to leave from there but to no luck. All her efforts are waste and useless. Will Manisha be able to get out of this place? What are the surprises this place carries with it? if you wanna know you should consider reading the book on your own otherwise it will be a spoiler. There is a lot more that waits under the pages of this book.✨
✨ The author maintained the perks of this read which posed as an engrossing plot, utter twists which effectively delivered an important lesson to the readers. The narration is top-notch, the way he explains some complex things with such ease is really impressive. Pace of the book is nice, perfectly executed to connect readers with the story. Also he tries alot to connect the incidents with real life for example he mention that as Manisha tries to know more about this world, the more she keeps on forgetting about the real world, which clearly indicates how we forgetting the real world while wasting our lot of time in social media. ✨ 💫I strictly recommend to read this epic book to all of you. What if your life was your timeline—public, curated, and never fully yours?
Rating: (4.5/5) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
In Virtually Lost, Shreyan Laha creates a dystopian world that feels hauntingly familiar. In the creepy city of Pathabhrashta, where the novel is set, Professor Manisha has sharp observation skills that pull her into a world where reality feels like social media. Everyone is a profile, encounters are transactions, and surveillance is the norm. The city's creepy normal feels like the world we're familiar with, just a few deadly notches higher.
With sharp, deliberate prose and philosophical undertones, the novel transforms a digital what-if into a gripping narrative. Laha doesn’t just tell a story—he asks a question we’ve all brushed past: What if we’ve already blurred the line between online and offline too far?
Why This Sci-Fi Thriller Stands Out: • Original Premise: Combines speculative fiction and psychological realism to create a chilling vision where social media is not only a tool, but a social structure. • A Strong Protagonist: Manisha's scholarly awareness lends psychological complexity to the story, enabling readers to problematize behavior, conformity, and identity. • Themes That Resonate: Privacy, addiction to digital lives, performative selves, and surveillance by society—important, timely, and horribly proximate to our world today. • Tight Narrative Flow: The narration is lean and compelling, never pausing too long for exposition but incrementally unfolding the city's distorted logic. • Thought-Provoking Takeaways: It's entertainment with a purpose—it invites readers to examine their own digital trails and delusions of agency.
Final Thoughts:
Virtually Lost is a heady thriller coated in a digital dystopia. Shreyan Laha's creative perspective gives readers not only a swift, gripping narrative, but a reflection of our tech-snarled world. For fans of speculative fiction with societal bite, the book finds itself between Black Mirror and 1984—cautionary but compelling.
If you’re ready to question the lines between privacy and performance, reality and representation, then welcome to Pathabhrashta. Just remember, someone might already be watching.

What do you choose when there's an ig story of Mountains or Sea?
Well our protagonist Manisha, a professor in Psychology chose mountains, the seculded natural kind, he kind where you can make the pahadon wali maggi ki reels.
The place is called Pathabhrashta (I loved the witty name as its self explanatory). Manisha was quite surprised at first to see the people of the place because they were not the local people she expected. She notices quite many unusual things about them and seeing the impossible at many instances she decided to dig in.
When she experienced and interacted with more and more people of this place the conclusion she reached out was mind boggling. The people, their behaviour pattern, how they lived was no different of how people are in the virtual reality world as if they are trapped.
And indeed they were!!!
They are controlled, monitored and trained to be just virtual identities and act like one.
This book literally gave me goosebumps because the message and concept that this book conveyed is the need of the hour. Being slaves of technology and the virtual world is like breathing for people.
This book and story very responsibly makes the reader experience of how apocalyptic it would be if the virtual became real.
The plot line and protagonist is my favourite and every detail that has been taken care of makes this science fiction more thrilling. The writing style is subtle and the book never gets boring for its page length.
A must read and highly recommended for a digital detox kind of day.
Social Media is now controlling our lives whether you agree to it or not but you're under its influence. But let's think for a minute that you're now not a person but only a profile and what you do, what you think is all governed and you're always under control, you don't want this neither did Manisha but she is stuck in one such situation. Virtually Lost is a book by Shreyan Laha and is a science fiction and dystopian fiction genre book.
Our protagonist Manisha, found herself in a mysterious city named Pathabhrashta where every person is nothing more than a profile and the government is ruling the city the similar way a social media works. They have their eyes on everyone, and are tracking each person's steps and thoughts. Manisha sure does wants to leave this place but there are two problems first, she doesn't remember anything except for her name and doesn't know where to go or why in the first place she is even in that mysterious town and the second probably is that in a place where your every movement is tracked is it really possible to escape? To find out you'll have to read the book. And yeah one more point to add :- "The climax is the best part of the book, it will give you thrill and shock and will definitely catch you off guard."
The book is well written, the environment setup is done very well which according to me is the toughest part in writing novels of dystopian genre books so congratulations to the author for that. The character build up was good and the language used is simple and the narration is intriguing.
Overall this book is going to be a fun read for the lovers of dystopian fiction and science fiction genre lovers and if you're one of them you shouldn't miss it.

The Author has maintained the subtleties of "New World Order" and some other new types of religion or cults. Virtually lost is a fascinating story of Manisha and people like her. Who got trapped in life like social media. Where people are only fairer because of their profile being gauged by the number of things they can do and living a lifestyle some people crave for.
Theme: Social Media, Revolution and fear of unknown...
Manisha the protagonist, still trying to be sane after getting trapped in an unknown city where people are relatively traceable even by their footprints. The mystery is to find out what next day will unfold for her and the indirect comparison with the real world we live in. The plot will keep you hooked. The read is fast-paced but the wisdom is shared will tell you to re-read every paragraphs...
All the cults are based on simple rules of selfless love, unity in the community but to make everyone follow that leaders forget this basic rule and can get violent and cruel to anyone who disobeys. The Revolutionary here is known as "Jupiter" who follows Jupiter the supreme God. Plot is filled with some twists and Manisha has to be sane to choose her path while she is only one battling with her thoughts and reality, others have accepted their fate.
As far as plot is considered, author has worked on characters and surrounding satisfactorily to highlight the plotline. And the alarming part of story of being bound to live in a designed society makes it more interesting. Aren't some of us living the same way, where we had accepted cruel society as a "New Normal".
BOOK REVIEW ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) . 🌻 It is a story of a psychologist who wakes up in a world where no one lives. In the whole story, she is unable to understand what is happening to her and how she landed in a strange world like this. Her memory has been lost. 🌻 After some time she meets a man who seems like a beggar to her named "Dhaval" who tries to tell Manisha about a wristband which she is supposed to wear as well. But to Manisha, it seemed more like a screen on a wrist. Dhaval explains to Manisha that it is like social media where she has been "Virtually lost" but will get used to it. 🌻 In the other parts of the story we see that she is met by a police officer whose name was " Dwade" who with the help of a television explains to Manisha where she was but still the girl is very confused and wants to get rid of the place. He also tells that the place is called " Pathabhrashta". 🌻 The story revolves around different characters which Manisha meets in the world and in the end when she tries to run from the place, she is beaten up by the police officer. 🌻 We can say that Manisha was kept in the place for a reason to experiment on how a new world like this will operate but it gets a fire in the end and it came out as a jungle. Manisha then remembers everything and explores the place and thinks about how she was living here. 🌻 The author has also illustrated the idea of "Freedom". How the countries or people struggle to get freedom and how toxic it can be for them to suffer there. 🌻 This is what I have understood from this book. I recommend everyone to read it and enjoy a truly different story and concept.
