Surf’s up—watch out! Here comes another funny, frolicking read-aloud from the creators of Bunnies on the Bus.
Bunnies in a boat! Bunnies in a boat! Dashing and a-splashing! Let’s hope they stay afloat!
There are bunnies in a boat, and they’re causing a maelstrom in Sunny Bay! The Sunny Town creatures are all out to play in the surf and sand when, whoosh, there goes a speedboat full of bunnies. Watch them crash into a sandcastle, whisk the sails off boats, zip their way to the airport, and run for the plane’s cockpit . . . oh no! Philip Ardagh’s rollicking, rhyming text is a joy to read aloud, while Ben Mantle’s colorful visual gags and zany details make this a story kids will be bouncing to read over and over.
Over six-and-a-half feet tall, with a bushy beard, Philip Ardagh is not only very big but also very hairy. He is the author of the Eddie Dickens Trilogy and when not writing silly books, Mr. Ardagh is quite serious and frowns a great deal. He lives in a seaside town somewhere in England with his wife and their son, Fred.
Not always the smoothest read aloud rhythmically, but my kids thought it was funny. They also enjoyed looking at all the little details in the pictures of the chaos the bunnies cause.
This is my second ‘Bunnies’ book. Like ‘Bunnies on the Bus’, the illustrations are great – so much to look at, you keep seeing new things – and there are the rhyming sentences and repetitions that are always welcome in a book for young children. The squirrel (?) thieves are back too, and you can trace their nefarious deeds through the book. This time they are not caught – but do lose their swag. With their speedboat, the bunnies are creating even more havoc than they managed with the bus. The most spectacular scene is when they crash through a troupe of acrobatic water-skiing hippos in tutus. A lot of fun for children and adults alike, but maybe not as brilliant as ‘Bunnies on the Bus’.
This is such a brilliant and funny picture book I just couldn’t stop laughing by the end! It’s the summer in Sunny Town and the bunnies are all getting into a boat, but what will happen to them, and will they stay afloat? This paperback is filled with thick matt pages of some great rhyminging text and lots of colourful and detailed illustrations.
I really enjoyed reading ‘Bunnies on the Bus’ so I thought I’d enjoy this second book in the series and it’s just as funny if not better than the first. As the bunnies start driving their boat in the water they can’t help but get in the way of all the other animals who are trying to enjoy their summer day at the beach. The bunnies end up crashing through the tigers on the sand, they end up speeding through some hippos on the water and no matter where they go they seem to cause mayhem. The book is filled with rhyming text throughout and the situations the bunnies end up in get more and more silly as the story goes on.
The illustrations really help show the story beyond the text and I love how detailed and fun they all are. Every page or double page has so much colourful detail. I’ts one of those books you want to take the time to look at each page to spot all the little details and the different animals and what’s happening to them. When the bunnies crash into each scene you can see the various different animals affected and all the mayhem they’ve caused in each part of the picture and I love how the illustrations show the bunnies aquiring new items or passengers along the way!
By the time the ice cream truck is mentioned I just couldn’t stop laughing, and I’m sure so many children (and adults) will be enjoying this book and laughing along with the silliness too! The last page is brilliant and it also makes me want to see the mayhem the bunnies could cause in the place mentioned. Overall this is such a brilliant picture book and one I’d recommend for anyone who loves a good and simple book with brilliant rhymes, repetition, so many funny and detailed illustrations to look at and an overall good laugh. It’s a book I know will be enjoyed again and again and it’s definitely one I’d recommend along with the first book Bunnies on the Bus, and I can’t wait for the Bunnies sand their Christmas adventure which I know will be published later this year. 🙂 -Thanks to Walker Books for a free copy.
BUNNIES IN A BOAT is an absolutely delightful, silly, and rhyming picture book that will charm young readers. The book begins with some bunnies renting a speedboat and wreaking havoc around the water and the beach. They then get a truck that they take to the airport, making trouble on a plane.
What I loved: This book really tickles the funny bone for young readers and will create plenty of giggles. The story is simple, cute, and perfectly silly with jokes that even little ones will get and enjoy. Each illustration is vivid and very detailed with plenty of humor all around. There are so many things going on with each page that readers will love finding and laughing about. These bunnies are making a mess all around the beach before taking their silliness to the airport. The ending illustration on the plane is a particular favorite in our house with so many bunnies being silly and making messes that children cannot help but giggle.
The text rhymes with a repeating refrain that only adds to the fun and makes the story roll off the tongue well. The font is clear and easy to read throughout, making this a great choice for caregivers to share with little ones who love to laugh.
Final verdict: BUNNIES IN A BOAT is a delightfully silly picture book that is sure to make young readers laugh out loud with its clever and detailed illustrations and rhyming text.
The naughty bunnies are back and they have left their bus behind and now they have a boat!
Bunnies in a Boat is a hilarious rhyming children’s picture book about, as you may have guessed from the title, bunnies that are in a boat.
On a lovely summer’s day, the animals of Sunny Town are enjoying their time at the beach and in the sea but the bunnies are about to cause mayhem as they speed about dashing, splashing, and a-crashing. Not only do they cause trouble at sea but inland too.
The book is illustrated with bright, colourful, full-page illustrations that are comical to look at. There is so much going on within each drawing that it will take you a minute just to look at each page and see all the animal’s expressions. If the words don’t give you a giggle the images will.
The rhyming text is kept to a minimum and parts repeat throughout which will help new readers learn the words.
Overall, Bunnies in a Boat is a cheeky, amusing, and rib-tickling children’s book. It will entertain the reader and just may become a bedtime favourite until the next book comes out. Oh no – the bunnies have found a plane!!!
This book and its illustrations are the epitome of chaos, and yet it works superbly!
Bunnies in a Boat is the kind of full-page, colour-infested story children pore over for hours; the pages are just filled to the brim with things to look at, characters to follow and funny mannerisms on furry faces. The story itself is a bit too chaotic really to be considered a great narrative, but it remains to be super fun all the same and, truthfully, the illustrations are more than enough with hours of potential fun to be had, so it almost doesn't matter.
ARC provided from the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
Bunnies are riding in a boat, whooshing, zipping, and vrooming through the water making it chaotic. It is not safe to be at Sunny Bay with all the bunnies. There are tigers in the sand, hippos on water skis, and and sheep who better watch out!
I didn't really like this book because I didn't enjoy it as much as I have with the other books that I've read.
I can use this book in the classroom by teaching my students that you have to pay attention to your surroundings. Paying attention will help you avoid accidents and respond quickly to unexpected situations.
This book is like watching a train wreck, erm, I mean a boat wreck. Colorful, lively illustrations and rhyming text in a whimsical, lighthearted tone. The surprise ending is a bonus. A sequel perhaps? Yes, please!
These bunnies are out of control! Totally cute chaos. Where could those bunnies be headed next? The illustrations are Richard Scarry level busy so be prepared for lots of time spent poring over pages! This is one that I would not pick for a larger story time - just because there is so much going on in the illustrations. But it would work for a small group. Or a one-on-one.
Bunnies in a Boat is an amazing book with great illustrations! The storyline is so fun and the illustrations keep students searching for more and more information. My students lived Bunnies on a Bus and when I told them about Bunnies in a Boat, they can’t wait to see it. As a speech teacher, I highly recommend this book.
Bunnies in a Boat by Philip Ardagh is a whimsical tale filled with chaotic energy, but for me, the lively antics overshadowed any intended message. The storyline felt overwhelming at times, making it difficult to grasp any underlying themes. While the illustrations are charming, the overall experience left me wanting more clarity in the narrative.
It's a beach day for critters of all kinds, but a boat full of bunnies causes bedlam across the bay! This humorous book has lots of colorful chaos to observe on each page-- where will this boat ride take these rowdy rodents?
Incredibly busy artwork. Some bunnies drive a speedboat through a crowded beach area creating chaos. The text is much simpler than the art, and it bears taking time to analyze everything on the page.
Those wild, fun loving, adventuresome Bunnies are back. This time they're in a speed boat causing havoc with their devil may care zest for life. This rhyming, laugh out loud read, along with the zany illustrations are sure to bring a smile to the reader in this hair raising tale.
Not as good as Bunnies on a Bus, though the illustrations are still very fun with lots of detail to pore over. In the previous book, the bunnies were going fast through the town but not causing destruction and mayhem. In this book they just seem mean.
A lot of repetitive lines and not much of a storyline however we have so much fun yelling and putting emphasis on things and just going crazy. The pictures also make up for lack of words. It’s just a hoot
A boat full of crazy bunnies speeds through other animals on the water and then on land. This silly book has amazing illustrations and no real story line, but with the right reader would be a good story time addition.
Forced rhyming text accompanies the illustrations rather than narrating a story. The thread of what was happening was difficult to follow and it didn't seem particularly fun or coherent.
So much fun, illustration is 6 stars! I feel like the rhyme scheme is actually a little off in places? Am I crazy? Still, it's a little slice of summer between two pieces of cardboard.
Nope. The book stressed me out. I know it was supposed to be silly, but the reckless destruction to property and others' safety was too much. Not a good book.
