The story continues. Beginning at the conclusion of Vol 1, The Rose Vol 2 follows rebel freedom fighter, Phil as he battles alien vampire Sanos. Phil’s mission is to follow Sanos into the depths of hollow earth to infiltrate Drac City and rescue Sandy from the clutches of the alien vampires.
Sandy awakens in Drac City and discovers she has powers she never knew existed. But where these changes came from is an enigma, a puzzle she’ll need to put aside until she finds her missing son, Adam. Now a guest among a city of alien vampires, Sandy must engage in a diabolical manipulation with alien vampire leader, Moth, the only vampire who knows the whereabouts of Adam.
Sanos requires Phil, the rebel freedom fighter who tore through the underground medical complex and brought chaos and mayhem with him. Sanos needs to overcome the shame Phil brought to alien vampires in the underground complex and reestablish trust with COR, the alien vampire commission in charge of operations on planet Earth. But to do so Phil is required, dead or alive is no matter to Sanos, he desires to gain favor with COR no matter what the cost. COR has the formula Sanos craves more than power and control. The formula is his ticket to new blood and his reign over his species and the universe.
Travel into the depths of hollow earth, across the globe, and beneath the ocean for a scifi fantasy extravaganza of blood, carnage, life, death and the eternal battle between good and evil.

The second book of The Rose series is just as thrilling as the first one. The story immediately begins where the previous book left off, so I highly recommend reading Volume 1 before diving in to this one.
With that being said, I really like where this series is heading! Sandy is searching for her kidnapped child, Adam, and found herself surrounded by Alien Vampires in Drac City in the process. Phil faces frightening challenges, government coverups are abundant, and the entire human race is at stake.
While book 1 offered us an introduction to it's spectacular plot, book 2 gives us more depth to the various alien species, background on key characters, and even more page-turning thrills along the way.
The battle scenes began to feel a little repetitive towards the end, but don't let that deter you at all! The author methodically unfolds a tale so spine tingling, it will keep even the biggest thriller fan up all night. I am officially hooked!
The saying, "a jack of all trades but the master of none" does not apply to P.D. Alleva when it comes to genre-blended storytelling, who skillfully crafts a unique vampire tale like no other. The author's ability to seamlessly meld sci-fi, fantasy, thriller, action, and horror into what could be considered a whole new genre of its own is as much genius as it is impressive.
If you're looking for a creepy, dystopian fantasy filled with edge of your seat action and nail biting suspense, then read this series!
*FTC DISCLOSURE: I received a complimentary copy of the book and wrote this review voluntarily. The opinions expressed are entirely my own and is in no way affiliated with the author or publisher.
♤ tw: violence, death, murder ♤ review: my first reaction when i finished this book was, damn! And i think that's what the author aimed for his readers to say. I mean the author had fairly warned me that this is wherethe depth kicks in, but i really wasn't expecting it.
The story is picked where it was left off, so gotta read the first part before you get to this one. Adam's missing and Sandy, who's now in Drac city pairs with Moth, an alien vampire to search for her son. Phil is tangled up with his own troubles lurking around the dark and everything or even everyone is at stake.
To avoid spoilers, i am not gonna in-depth about the what the book contains... but lemme tell you it's better than anything i have read! This was medium paced, and didn't have me yawming at all. The plot, as you can see, was awesome and guess what? There's a 3rd book coming and I'm hella excited!!! As mentioned in tw, there's lot of violence as compared to the last one so be prepared for that.
♡ thanks to author for kindly providing me with a copy!
This was just as exciting as the first book in this series. I enjoyed it completely and once again lost some sleep over it. I won’t give away anything, but you must read it. It’s not your typical aliens invading Earth story. It’s creepy vampire aliens. Geez. That’s it I will say no more. The next installment in this series is coming out next year. I can’t wait. I highly recommend reading both books in anticipation for the third in this series. PD Alleva sure knows how to draw you in and keep you there reading it all in one sitting.
It was my pleasure to receive a free copy of this book but that does not in any way affect my opinions in this review of this entertaining story.
PD Alleva’s The Rose Vol II picks up right where Vol I leaves off so it is not recommended to read this book without having read Vol I first. There is also a third book currently in production so readers should understand that there is a lot more to come as well. With that being said there is so much that Vol II has to offer.
Phil and his crew are able to make it to the safe compound of Robyn but unfortunately Sandy is not with them. Instead she is somewhere aboard an Alien ship undergoing some very strange changes only to find herself in Drac City. There Sandy tries her best to fit in while she figures out where her child is and what is happening to her in the process. What these changes mean for her and the future of the human race is yet to be discovered but they cause a lot of confusion among all the races involved in the fight for Earth. At the compound Phil’s companions are equipped to go back to their home only to find destruction when they get there that heads them back to the safety they can find below ground with Robin.
Despite what it might look like all is not calm in Drac City either. Moth, the leader of Drac City is concerned about Sandy and about finding the hiding place of Robyn and the rest of the rebels without causing concern to the citizens. Then there is the treason that is going on right under his nose that makes him doubt every other Vampire and his position within COR. Is Sanos to be trusted of disposed of? What will happen if Sephtis is called to Earth?
What I liked about this book is that it picked up right where the first volume left off without chapters of review. I also enjoyed how this second book explains some of the questions the first one left me with (although I will not discuss them here so there is no spoilers). I will admit thought that there was something that I did not like about this second book. It felt as if at least a fourth of the book was unnecessary fight scenes. I understand that combat is needed due to the nature of the book, but I found myself glossing over these sections because after the first few I read they all seemed to be the same fight over and over, there was little variation between them.
I recommend this book for the same readers as the first one, being mature readers. There is still multiple story-lines going at one time but they were easier to navigate this time. This book was just as tame as the first one when it comes to a lack of inappropriate content or bad language, yet there is a lot more violence in this one but that could just be because of the added length of the book. I rate this book 4 out of 5 due to the repetitive fighting I mentioned earlier, but it is still a good book.
As the battle for control wages on, the fighting is strewn across, and below, the surface of the Earth leaving a trail of pain in its wake in The Rose (Vol. 2) by PD Alleva.
Awakening in Drac City, Sandy soon finds that she’s not as human as she once was, with new powers at her disposal and no idea how they came to be. Her determined hunt for her son, Adam, continues while she is a guest of the Drac leader Moth in the city, and Moth’s her only hope of finding where her son is so she plays along with his manipulations – for now. Meanwhile, Phil’s on a mission to infiltrate Drac City to rescue Sandy, but first he’ll face off against Sanos in order to get there; Sanos needs Phil, whose fighting was able to ruin facilities and long-held plans, to reestablish his reputation and trust with COR, the commission in charge of plans on Earth, and it matters not to Sanos whether Phil lives or dies. The assorted collection of soldiers and genetically modified humans travel to other rebel strongholds, quickly learning the gruesome fate that’s befallen those there and facing fights of their own along the way. All strive to survive with the battle quickly evolving, but which players will reign supreme is yet to be seen.
Quickly launching right back in to the plentiful action established in The Rose (Vol. 1) the pace continues to be brisk as the narrative oscillates between the various characters, fleshing them out a bit more, while also beginning to address things raised previously; the inclusion of the formerly oft-mentioned-but-never-seen Robyn’s perspective in this volume provided greater insight on the larger world as well as introduced a welcome lull to the pace that allowed for some breathing room. The introduction of time travel in greater earnest offered greater complexity potential for the narrative and the butterfly effect discussed with the shimmer mentioned by multiple characters started to manifest. Phil in the role of the phantom featured as part of Drac lore gave off major “chosen one” vibes and was quickly tempered from being too over the top with suffering and losses endured that helped to make the emotional impact feel more genuine and highlighted how much was at stake. Actions of subterfuge and betrayal came in to greater focus as events progressed and the next stage of the narrative is set up as a result in an enticing way, leaving readers ready for the next portion of the adventure to commence, especially with the role of the children and their future pointing toward the broader plan. It was also quite helpful to include a synopsis for Vol. 1 for readers to refresh their memories on what has taken place thus far and not bog down the narrative with recaps as a result.

I received an advance reader copy of The Rose: Volume 2 for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
When I rate a book 5 stars, as I did with The Rose Vol. 1: A Dystopian Science Fiction Thriller, when it comes time to review the follow-up, I find myself in a quandary. If it's better, I can't give it 6 stars. This is an instance where I would like to be able to give it those 6 stars.
On the strength of The Rose: Volume 1, I jumped straight into this follow-up and read it the same day, which is a rarity. This is very much a second chapter, and doesn't stand on its own without having read the original, but if you leave it longer than I did to read the sequel, the summary provided in this book is a great addition.
For all P.D. Alleva's The Rose Vol 2 follows the first volume, this is an entirely different read, pairing down the dystopian, thriller and horror angles for something more focused on action and adventure. The result is a more freewheeling story that allows it to have a little more fun, without sacrificing everything that made Volume 1 so successful. This is just as raw as ever, and its themes just as sharp, if not sharper.
At more than twice the length of the original, the author uses this space to tell a bigger story in every aspect, including an expanded scope, more character beats, and more twists and turns. The plot involves more moving parts, which I won't even touch upon, given the twist it takes so early on.
The characters, again, are written wonderfully, all clearly defined and totally relatable. This doesn't only extend to the human characters; The Rose: Volume 2 spends a lot more time with the vampires, taking the time to ensure that they are as fleshed out as well as anybody.
I can't recommend this highly enough. This is a brilliant follow-up to The Rose: Volume 1 that truly improves upon its greatness.
My full review will be available on my website from 18 March. To read my entire thoughts about it, and about other books - including The Rose: Volume 1, posted two days earlier - just follow this link.
The Rose Vol 2. picks up where The Rose Vol 1. left off. In The Rose Vol 1. Sandy had been taken hostage by the aliens. When the aliens took Sandy hostage she was pregnant. Sandy kept this quiet for as long as possible from the aliens as she didn’t know what they would do to her baby.
Now in The Rose Vol 2. Sandy has given birth to a baby boy, Adam. The aliens did as she feared, they took her baby from her. Sandy knows he is still alive as she can feel him but she doesn’t know exactly where he is but she will never give up looking for her baby if it is the last thing she ever does.
The aliens have come to Earth to take over. The humans have fought back. I don’t think the aliens ever believed that taking Earth would be so hard as they thought they could just waltz in and take over immediately. They never thought the humans would or could fight so hard.
I love the new take on vampires. The vampires are the aliens from another planet who comes to Earth to take over. The Rose Vol 2. is a very intense and captivating read that kept me hooked from the first page. When I opened The Rose Vol 2. and began to read I was pulled in deeper and deeper and I soon found myself lost between its pages as the world around me disappeared.
I liked that we got the story from more than one character. I liked that the story kept going back and forwards between each character so we could get to know each character as they each fought their own battles. I would very much like to read more from this world and all the characters in future books.
The Rose Vol 2. was such an enthralling read that I would highly recommend it to all vampire and alien fans. Grab your copy of The Rose Vol 2. today for a new twist on vampires and aliens!
I received a review copy of this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.
The Rose: Volume 2 continues right from where the first book left off. Sandy has been kidnapped by Alien Vampires and now, her child, who was taken from her before birth, is being kept from her. As any mother would, Sandy's only concern is to find her infant son and take him back. Phil, a skilled warrior, has made it his mission to find and rescue Sandy and her son. What stands in his way is an evil, ambitious alien, Sanos. In this second book of the series, the battles escalate on all fronts and it turns into another blood bath as humans fight to survive, Phil seeks to defeat Sanos and find Sandy, and Sanos is on a quest to take over as the leader of the alien forces and enslave the people of the Earth.
This segment of the saga picks up where volume one leaves off.
Sandy, who was kidnapped in the first book, is still being held hostage and continues to intensely seek the whereabouts of her infant son, who was taken from her before he was born. She finds herself transformed into something other than human and begins a campaign to win the confidence of her captors with deception. At the same time, Phil, the freedom fighter who caused much destruction and mayhem to the alien vampires, continues his attempt to rescue Sandy from the alien clutches. The ambitious Sanos, a vampire with a lot of power, works to take his place as leader of the invaders, but realizes he will have little success as long as Phil lives.
This story is intense and loaded with action from the beginning to the end, and the stage is set for a final showdown that will determine the future of humanity.
Sanos is obsessed with gaining power and is dividing the alien forces. His quest to become the leader of the invading forces has complicated their goals. The vampires and grays didn't think their task to enslave the people of Earth would be as difficult as it has become, but Sanos doesn't seem to care about anything except his own ambitions, and his power is becoming overwhelming.
The only hope is that Sandy will be able to make the aliens think she is on their side, and at the same time, the only way Phil will be able to rescue Sandy and her child, is to once and for all, destroy Sanos, finally destabilizing the alien power base.
In Rose 2, my takeaway focuses on Sanos and how reckless he has become. He doesn't seem to care what the goals of his fellow aliens are, he only wants to become the leader. His efforts are continually thwarted by Phil, and defeating him has become an obsession that threatens to lead the invasion to ruin. Sanos' power has corrupted him to where he seems to be the focal point of the story and there is going to be an epic showdown between him and Phil. I'm looking forward to it, hopefully in the third installment of this saga.
As second books in trilogies go, this one is well done setting the stage for an inthralling conclusion. This segment moves at a blinding speed and the action never lets up, while at the same time, gives us a lot of insight into the characters introduced in the first volume. If you enjoy an action-packed story with great characters, both good and evil, you're going to love this novel. It is intense!
“Teach them they are nothing. Less than. Dependent. Make them look beyond themselves for safety and security, and they will die from within. Show their eyes what they cannot have and provide the dream that they can. And then laugh as they claw at each other to receive what they will never gain.”
This is a quote from the book and sums up the how the destruction of Earth's population started. To me, it all sounds frightfully familiar...
The Rose 2 had me on the edge of my seat, wondering what next disasters would happen (and plenty did) and if they would get resolved. And yet more is still to come as the chilling end revealed.
You won't want to miss this series. You don't have to start from the beginning as there is a summary of book 1, but it'll be so much more satisfying if you read book 1 first.
The Rose Vol 2. expands on the world from the first book - adding characters and locations (and plot details) that deepen the readers knowledge of the world. If you like unique vampires mixed with aliens invading the world, complex plots and action sequences, this is the book for you.
I received a copy of the book in exchange for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
this was another great entry in the Rose series, it was stronger in writing and I had enjoyed the first book a lot. The characters were what I was hoping for and glad I was able to continue this series. PD Alleva has a great writing style and really look forward to reading more from him.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
4.5. My Kindle died at 93%, I had to wait until it recharged some to finish it. The only bad thing is that I have to wait for the next book to find out what happens to.....you'll have to read it to find out who I'm talking about.
When I started reading Volume 2, I thought that I was going to like it more than the first volume. The first volume was not bad, it definetly had potential, it was just missing something. I was very hopeful that those things I missed in the first volume would be found in the second novel. Unfortunately, it wasn't.
In the first book I did not like the length of the chapters, they felt to long which made it difficult to get through, now there were shorter chapters in the second volume. But after a few chapters I figured that these chapters were way too short, often being only a few pages. Everytime I got into the story and point of view of the chapter, it ended and the POV was changed again. It made it though to read.
A lot of the things that happend were very predictable. I often guessed twists and turns before they happend which made it boring to read. There wasn't anything that really surprised me while reading. For example: , it felt like a really plain move to me.
The characters are still really vague and still feel very two dimensional. I want to get to know them better, but the way this is written it feels like there is no character development. Some characters even felt a bit unnecessary. For me those characters were Cam and Grimes, they did not add much to the story for me even though I actually really like Cam as a character I felt like it would have been possible to leave him out of the story without much changing.
I really enjoyed The Rose, Vol. 1, so I was extraordinarily keen to continue the story with the second volume. I became attached to the characters while reading the first book, and it ended at such a cliffhanger I couldn't wait to keep reading. There was one thing I immediately noticed about the sequel: the chapters are a lot shorter, which keeps the ball rolling and makes you want to read on and on to find out what happens to the characters, as it switches perspective every chapter.
While the first book felt more about escape and revolution, the sequel focused heavily on themes of transformation. Sandy, in particular, was the perfect example for this; however, other characters also go through much subtler transformations. The Rose, Vol. 2 does not fall into the trap of most second books in a series, where the narrative sets up the big confrontation for the third book while failing to actually include a complete story arc of their own. The tension was wound up until the heart-breaking climax.
This book maintains most of the characters and perspectives from the first book, which is quite a few. I thought the first book balanced the large cast of characters really well, but they weren't quite as strong in the sequel. Sandy remained the most interesting to me, and I thought her development in light of her transformation was remarkably well done, but as a consequence many of the other characters felt flat, more like archetypes than the fully fleshed out people they had been in the first book. This was especially relevant to Phil, whom I felt became overpowered and undefeatable, which, for me, ruined the tension in his scenes. Hopefully this is rectified in the next book.
The setting was one of the absolute highlights for me. Whereas the first book took place on Earth, the second book teleports us to the Drac home world. This story takes a deeper look at Draconian society and reveals some fascinating details that really added depth to the narrative. I cannot wait to see where the third book takes us.
I was offered a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This cover reminded me of Resident Evil which was a little weird that its kind of close to I think the second movie. But anyway never judge a book by that (as they say). This one was even better than book one!! This one picks up where book one left off and I was hooked once again on every page! I still loved the blend of science fiction elements and the new additions that we got. I love how this world is unfolding and I need more!! I hope they keep getting longer and more engrossing as the story progresses. Because I could see this being one very large ongoing series. If you enjoy things such as Resident Evil, Daybreak, Terminator and the like then this one is right up your ally!
Thank you, P.D. Alleva, for giving me a copy of the book in exchange for a fair review!
The Rose Vol II picks up right where Vol I left off. Sandy is still trying to find her missing son, but a transformation also takes place as she becomes less and less sure of who she is. She also gets mixed up in Drac politics while in their custody. No one gives her any answers. Phil, on the other hand, chases after Santos to try to find a way to rescue her. Instead, he discovers something quite unexpected on the other side.
Just like Vol I, this book has twist after twist as the plot dives forward. I did find this plot to be less gruesome and more battle of the wits as everyone tries to capture each other. To that extent, it wasn’t as thrilling as the previous book, but I still enjoyed where the plot led to.
My main critique for this one was similar character names. I got Cam and Cameron mixed up a few times. There were a couple of others who just had too similar names. This led me to pause a few times and try to remember who was who and who had done what.
Overall, I enjoyed this book, and I’m interested to see what happens to the characters in Vol III.
