Quite good. Interesting. I would want to read another one of Porsha's books. The only part that lost me was the end. I am not really into anything political and she is very clearly into political action.

To be fair, I gave this book 3 stars because the woman shared some deeply personal experiences that she didn’t have to. I appreciate her candor and openness. However, out of everything that was shared, a trend I noticed by the end of the 9th chapter is that she hadn’t grown from any of it. Or, perhaps a poor job was done in explaining her growth. She repeatedly made the same mistakes when it came to her choices in men.

I was hoping to see her get grounded, and offer insight on her healing process. She makes mention of it, but what exactly did you do in the healing process? I was looking for substance, but ultimately I was left a bit disappointed. Overall, the book just didn’t do it for me.

Finally, Porsha showed her truly beautiful self! The Pursuit of Porsha is a tell-all memoir. This book was so nicely written, expressive, honest and compelling. The narrative has a vital purpose and roots as well. She elaborates on Black history, the South, BLM and the Hosea Legacy. For Hollywood, Porsha also put Kenya on blast about showing up to her event, going off and then asking for a plate of food to go. Lol!!! 😆 Without saying her name, of course. This memoir is a must-read!

Porsha's interesting and often disturbing life experiences make for a solid enough bravolebrity book. I wish it had been funnier, since I think of Porsha as hilarious (the Lucille Ball of our time, as Casey Wilson calls her, ha). But taking inventory of all the abuses she has suffered made it an understandably somber book. I don't think she will ever make choices that will lead her to a peaceful life, but I'm glad she's found a more stable and joyful place to be. Extra star for vulnerability-- she is open about getting an abortion in a situation where she desperately wanted to be a mother, but knew that the baby's father would be toxic and horrible for both her and the child. That is not an often-heard narrative around abortion (wanting to be a mother) and I think it's great that she shared this brave part of her journey.

Excellent book. I cried 😢 and I also learned a lot of new things about Porsha childhood! Great job!

My mother is a huge fan of Porsha. She purchased this book so we can learn more about Porsha life story and not just what we see on social media. Great book I cried reading most chapters 😢 to see the struggles Porsha has been through in her life and yet she's still standing strong. I wou
ld recommend this book to my friends and family because someone else out there might be going to the same struggles Porsha went through and they are not strong enough to speak their truth or don't have the platform that Porsha has to sure there truth. Keep up the good work Porsha 💪!

The Pursuit of Porsha by Porsha Williams takes us on the journey of what made one of the most popular real housewives who she is.

Entrapment in abusive and toxic relationships with men seems to be the main traumatic point of The Real Housewives of Atlanta star’s story from how her father treated her before his untimely death to how her ex-husband treated her behind the cameras.

Atlanta born and raised, Porsha Williams starts her story on how she always envisioned herself in front of the camera as a way to escape her lingering depression and suicidal thoughts. Growing up, she lives with her mother Ms. Diane, a familiar face on the reality show, and her older brother Hosea. Her father also named Hosea like her grandfather, the civil rights activist who worked alongside Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., lives with his second wife and other family. Whenever Porsha and her brother visits their father, sometimes their father punishes them by forcing them into a basement or another room. Though she says the door would never be locked, Porsha feels like she can’t move. On one occasion, she tells her stepmother that her father has a girlfriend since her father would take her when he'd hang out with the girlfriend. This results in a punishment where she’s left in the car for hours. She says her father would forget he's punishing her and her siblings, but that frozen feeling stays with her in future relationships with men.

When you’re that young, watching the man you love with your entire miniature heart give his love to someone other than your mom, it changes how you think about love and what you expect from it. It changes what you think is up and what you think is down, and suddenly life seems a bit more sideways.

The entrapment follows her when she becomes involved with the recently convicted sex trafficker R. Kelly. After being recruited from a nightclub, Porsha hops on the plane to the R&B singer’s Illinois estate for what she thinks is a recording session. Like the victims’ testimonies in the docuseries Surviving R. Kelly, Porsha describes being sold the falsehood of a singing career to becoming romantically involved with the manipulative man. He, too, leaves her trapped in bedrooms, where she’s not given food or water as a result of him forgetting about her.

Besides physical entrapment, Porsha discusses the highs and mostly lows of her two-year marriage to former footballer Kordell Stewart. Their relationship is first documented on the fifth season of RHOA, Porsha’s debut season. In her memoir, Porsha admits the TV opportunity appeals to her as a way to make her husband proud. A daycare center owner at 24-years-old, Porsha is convinced to let go of her business and be a housewife. But, she says, everything she does is never enough for her husband as their marriage falls apart for millions of viewers to see.

I thought the cameras would be a good distraction from the very real problems we were facing in our marriage, but they weren’t distracting at all. If anything, they magnified the façade we had built brick by unsteady brick.

Porsha relives her first season, realizing everything she says will be scrutinized to the max. Some famous slip-of-the-tongue remarks had viewers questioning her intelligence, and Porsha says she felt ashamed by her honest mistakes, especially while representing her family with civil rights advocacy roots.

After nine years on the show, Porsha has since left the Bravo series and now wears the title of civil rights activist in her own right. She documents in the book her journey from attending protests with her grandfather at six-years-old and witnessing racism firsthand to taking charge at the George Floyd protests last year that soon involved countless other Black people who had lost their lives to racist violence. She’s been tear gassed and arrested on her new crusade, but she says the strength she musters to go out and fight comes from protecting her baby daughter Pilar.

My daughter saved my life. I’ve dealt with depression on and off my entire life. I've never been clinically diagnosed, but I know what depression looks like. I know what it feels like. It’s almost like a wave drifting on the shore; I can see it out near the horizon, steadily coming toward me until it overtakes me and I have no choice but to give in to it.

Mental health is a topic that hits readers in the first several pages as a young Porsha says she has unexplainable suicidal thoughts and is taken to a therapist by her mother to discuss her feelings. She recounts a suicidal attempt as a preteen due to feeling out of place at school. The childhood depression evolves with her as she struggles to find relationships she can trust. Porsha emphasizes the pursuit of herself as discovering her self-worth and taking responsibility for her actions.

The toxic relationships with men dominate the book. In the audiobook version of the memoir, Porsha’s younger half-sister Lauren, who also appears on the reality show, takes the reins for two chapters describing some of the difficult relationships. In those situations, Porsha also narrates her uneasy path to motherhood from having an abortion to experiencing infertility due to fibroids. She says the men, who seem loving to her at first, flip on her into unrecognizable monsters, a recurring theme.

Overall, the book gives us a front row seat to Porsha’s World with her longing to be a star to her actually becoming a star amid the obstacles that forced her to recognize her self-worth.

I love me some Porsha, and this book definitely gave some insight to some of her current behaviours and character traits. Very interesting book, finished it in 2.5 days! While sometimes it came off as a little bit of a pity party, I liked how she over came all of her adversaries and pushed through to this version of herself. She’s been through a lot!

I actually feel kind of bad for her, and if she is truly happy with Simon, then I am really happy for her. Very brave of her to share some of those traumatic moments with us, but I do wish she would have delved deeper into her past relationship with Dennis. I feel like the chapter on their relationship was sort of skimmed and then it sort of dovetails into Pilar’s birth. I guess she is still working through some of those unresolved emotions as it relates to Dennis. I feel like I know Porsha on a deeper level, and appreciate her candor in writing this book.

In 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐮𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐚, Porsha details the most impactful male relationships of her life. The book begins with stories of her father, then moves to her romantic relationships, and ends with stories of her grandfather.

Porsha’s story clearly demonstrates how a father’s relationship with his daughter can determine the type of men she will attract as an adult. For example, as a child, Porsha’s father locked her and her siblings in the closet as a way to punish them. Later in life, Porsha found herself in that same exact situation with a couple of her boyfriends.

I’ve watched Porsha weekly on tv as she begged her significant others for marriage proposals. Now I can see why. This memoir gave me a much better understanding of her desire to be chosen. Also, the role of wife has been her dream for as long as she can remember.

90% of the stories were new to me even though I’ve seen every episode of RHOA. I was most surprised to learn that Porsha survived R. Kelly. I got a chance to see who Porsha was before becoming a Real Housewife.

This book is entertaining and heartfelt. It also reveals that Porsha is not a good judge of character when it comes to picking men.

It’s an excellent memoir, definitely 5⭐️s for me. A must read for all Porsha fans.

This book was short and to the point. If you’ve been following Porsha Williams at all in the media then you’re somewhat familiar with her life’s story. This book expounded on her life from her point of view. Which gave a lot of insight into her role on her reality t.v. show that helps explain and clear up some misunderstandings. If you watch the show I think you would appreciate hearing her side of the story.
She also shares stories about her early childhood and her relationship with her Father which inevitably shaped her path to the men that came and went in her life.

I appreciate the insight into her experience filming the show, Real Housewives of Atlanta. She confirmed my suspicion about the “realness” of these type of shows. I don’t know how I would have responded in her position especially when she aired her first show but, through many trials and episodes, she's gained more confidence in herself.

I'm looking forward to reading the next chapters of her life.

The Pursuit of Porsha is an honest, revealing, and surprisingly vulnerable memoir that gives fans and critics alike a deeper look into the woman behind the headlines. Porsha doesn’t hold back—she answers the questions many have wanted to ask and even shares truths about herself that most didn’t see coming.

What makes this book stand out is that it isn’t about throwing shade or slandering people from her past or present. Instead, it's about reclaiming her narrative. Porsha opens up about her experiences, her growth, her pain, and the lessons she's learned along the way. It’s raw at times, emotional, and empowering.

While there are moments that could’ve gone even deeper, I respect her decision to focus the story on her journey—not gossip. I’d absolutely love to hear more from her, whether it’s in another book or a sit-down interview.

The Pursuit of Porsha reminds us that behind the glam and TV persona is a woman learning, evolving, and finally speaking her truth on her own terms.

In honor of the new season of RHOA and missing Porsha’s presence on the show I decided to pick up her memoir. It is exactly what I expected from a Housewives’ memoir. She shares some raw and traumatic details from her relationships and I didn’t know she herself was a victim of R. Kelly’s. I appreciated her candor and I wanted more from her! She has had a full life and I feel like many more details could have been offered. The memoir was also brief and didn’t leave much room for her own growth and healing. Missing her on Atlanta and hoping her messy engagement to Simon is truly her happy ended. Also LOL @ me for reading and reviewing this one. Can’t help who I am! #housewivesforever

I will never bash someones memoir. It’s their truth and I will respect it. Honestly I didn’t know what to expect when starting this. While I didn’t enjoy it I’m glad I read it. I felt it gave me some insight into why Porsha is so loud and boisterous. I do feel it’s a facade for her low self esteem and constantly seeking validation from men. Like always I wish people would just go to therapy and do the work. Then maybe write a book later in life.

Very easy read. I read it in mere hours. I like Porsha and I felt bad for her when she writes her story about growing up. However, some of her story, is her fault. She doesn't seem to take the blame for much of it or the woman was just really niave. The last chapter seems to be thrown in there to help sum it all up. The bio could have been ended with chapter 10. I think she tried to hard to write this biography. Would I recommend it? Only if you are a true fan. Otherwise, skip it.

In my opinion, Porsha left out a big chunk of her life; how she dealt with the other ladies on the Real Housewives of Atlanta and she did not really discuss her work at Dish Nation or Bravo,s Chat Room, either. How can this be an autobiography if you pick and choose only certain parts of your life to discuss?

Like Usher says in one of his songs, "If I'm gonna tell it, then I gotta tell it all!" I expected a little more depth from Porsha Williams, the granddaughter of Civil Rights Leader, Hosea Williams, but I guess you only get what you ask for with this book.

I've never met a ghost-written celebrity memoir that I haven't picked up. They're usually not great, but I still love reading them. It's fascinating to me how most of the real housewives are creating characters for TV and have more depth and dimension in real life. This was filled with some wild stories! Short and simple but not a favorite of mine.

In The Pursuit of Porsha, Porsha Williams has written her personal story that has taken years to be written in a book. She begins the book by sharing how her parents got divorced when she was about three years old. Her father was committing infidelity. She opened up about how her father treated her and her brothers. For punishment, he would close them inside their rooms and was told not to come out. She explained how many times he would forget and leave them in there for hours. This led her to try and become perfect and this is something that she still struggles with to this day. She also shared how she dealt with grief from when he passed away. She also shared how she was bullied in school and called names. One of the names was flat-chested, skinny, big-eyed stick. She hated school growing up and often dreamed of being inside her room at home, safe from the world. She admitted to having depression and experienced suicidal thoughts. She thought about taking pills but feared that she would be brain dead and she would leave her mother with that trauma. She did tie a scarf around her neck and to the door to see what it would feel like to not be alive. She also opened up about how she was raised by two entrepreneurs and this helped her to be trained on how to become a boss and lead others. In the book, she went into details about how she come to having a role on the Real Housewives of Atlanta and the drama that she experienced while being a cast member.

Another major area that she shared was about her past relationships and how they all affected her emotional, physically, and even spiritually. One of these was her relationship with her ex-husband, Kordell who was an NFL player. She explained how she prayed to God for a husband and a year later she met him. She revealed how they started dating and how controlling he was. He eventually stopped allowing any of her friends and family to come over to his house. Her name was left off of the deed of their house. He wanted her to sell her daycare business she created. He made her become a housewife to help raise his son. She explained how she believed he married her was in order to look better to the judge where he could obtain full custody from his ex. She eventually became pregnant and had fibroids and miscarried. She experienced a lot of emotional pain from having to carry a baby that she knew she was going to miscarry and a husband who could care less. He chose to go a golfing tournament instead of being present.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who enjoys reading autobiographies. I haven’t ever watched the Real Housewives of Atlanta, though her cast member, Nene did come into my tag office. I immensely enjoyed how she shared how she has a historical family connection to Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless and how God has used her to bless others through this charity. I also liked how she was transparent about becoming a boss and leading others and even founding her own daycare to help children. But I will say, the best part that I liked about the book was reading about her relationships and how they affected her. Even though, she went through horrible things and was forever changed by them. She was able to overcome and still go after God’s purpose for her life. One of the most heartbreaking stories to me was the R. Kelly victim stories and how it led to her to being questioned by investigators. She shared how she was taken advanced of and how many girls were sort of lock in directly in their rooms some for months at a time. One of things, I find most disturbing was how he told his sister how he was going to have a baby with Porsha but he had other women staying in room around the house, which she didn’t even realize all of that at the time. I appreciated how opened she was in sharing the details of her relationships, the behind scenes of the show, how she grew into her purpose, became a host on Dish nation, and founded two new businesses Pampered by Porsha, and Go Naked Hair.

2.5 stars, which I will round down to 2 stars overall.

While I am a fan of "The Real Housewives of" franchise, I had not gotten far enough into Atlanta to know who Porsha was. I picked up this book because the back cover sounded interesting. Now that I had read it, I can happily let it go.

To start, Porsha makes it clear in the beginning of this book that she had no intention of writing a book, until she was ready and had something to say. I am still not sure what Porsha "said" in this book. For me, I feel like I read another book about an entitled housewive from the franchise. While I do know that the women who go on this show are often very entitled and have money, I have enjoyed past books about some of the characters on the shows which seemed a little more down to earth than Porsha is.

One thing that struck me about Porsha was perhaps her overall opinion of herself. When she finished high school, she didn't have to to go to college because her mother was an Entrepreneur (one of Porsha's favorite words) so she would be walking into her mother's business. Perhaps this was the case, and there were conversations about this happening but, when you read more into it, Porsha could not make payroll on her own daycare business but she happened to have a famous athlete in her life who funded her business. In my opinion, perhaps there is a reason why you get some business education before you open a business, even one that is an extension of your mothers.

Porsha does a lot of name dropping in this book, which I also did not love. Well before the Housewives show, Porsha came across as someone who was trying to get into those celebrity circles. She discusses her relationship with R. Kelly, which came as a shock to me that she was one of those women in his life, but there is little information. I wish she had included more information about what it was like to be involved in that scandal, and the court case, which she testified in. She then discusses her relationships, one of which being with her first husband. If you are looking for much information on what lead to their breakup, you will not get it here. I respect wanting to keep that private but, some stories she started to tell, then would say she could not go any further for legal reasons. If you can't discuss it, do not bring it up in your book. It really makes not sense to the overall story.

What I did like, and the reason for my 2.5 star review, is that Porsha does discuss her own experiences with depression, relationships with men who she felt were using her, and her desire to become a mother. During those times, I felt like I was seeing a real person, not someone just looking to be famous.

Perhaps you would love this book more if you are an avid Porsha fan. I watched a few of her episodes on Housewives, and turned on her "Porsha's having a baby" series but, this was not my favorite of the housewives book by far.

Honestly, as far as celebrity memoirs go, this wasn’t too bad. And as far as Bravo-lebrity memoirs go, this was good. It was a good length, and it had enough new information and stories within it that, for those who are fans of her and her show, it wasn’t a reiteration of things we’ve seen or heard from her on television.

To be honest, there were stories in here that were genuinely compelling and interesting, if not frustrating, since she does make a lot of the same mistakes over and over (in true cancerian fashion, might I add).

I can’t quite tell if a ghost writer was used. Usually you can tell right away, and I think it’s both a compliment and a read that I can’t tell LOL. There were some paragraphs that were kind of a slog to get through, or were a little too much for me, but honestly, that’s Porsha for you. And I respect that she’s always authentically herself.

Again, as far as Bravo-leb books go, this one wasn’t bad at all. I’d say if you watch Bravo and have watched RHOA, then this would be fun and entertaining for you. I ~might~ give it 2.5 stars, if I could, but I rounded up to 3 to support my cancer sister. And because I generally did really enjoy Porsha on the show.

I've always loved me some Porsha Williams. Even now after seeing her reality show where she is knocking everyone slam out I still have love for her. Even after she threw that donkey on that woman's husband I still love me some Porsha. It's something about her that is really endearing lol. Her memoir did not disappoint and I'm glad I listened to it on audio. She laid a lot of stuff out there. I had NO idea that her, her mom, grandmother and granny's husband were living in a hotel at one point during filming after Porsha and Kordell (raggedy mofo) split. I loved hearing her talk about her dad and the birth of sweet PJ. There were some parts that were hard for her to talk about and she had her sister Lauren read those parts. She did not talk about Simon in this so if you're looking forward to hearing about that don't be. This was an excellent listen. Porsha you still got folks rooting for you just please stop body slamming everyone on tv.

Oh! I didn't even talk about her being in R Kelly's house!! You'll haver to read/listen to know what I'm talking about.

“Love—in every form—begins with yourself. You’ve got to know your worth, your value, your dreams, your ambition, what drives you, and eggs motivated tog in order to properly love anybody else.” -Porsha Williams

As a dedicated RHOA fan, it was super interesting to read more in depth about where Porsha has come from and how she has grown and what she’s learned along the way.

This book reminded me of why I also love the show so much, within all the wild things that go on, it’s a show full of beautiful black women real navigating their lives, facing real challenges and growing. I am able to see glimpses of myself in In all the housewives, and Porshas story was no different. So this book was a quick read and a good read !

Where do I begin with this read. First huge shoutout to Porsha as this memoir truly speaks volumes on her as an individual and all she endured. I could not put this book down, for two days! I felt I was on this journey with her as I too dealt with the misuse of “love”. This memoir may be about Porsha but she wrote to so many women and opened eyes or helped open eyes. I know some that don’t care for Porsha, but seeing the intimate details of her journey explains a whole lot! Thank you Porsha and if you have not gotten this book, definitely do so! Great read and truly eye opening!!

So the book wasn’t bad. As I was reading it, I could definitely hear Porsha in my ear. Lol!
I feel like it ended oddly. I don’t know. Something about this book is incomplete. You know how you have to write a 1,000 word paper and you get to the end & only have 800 words? I feel like she went back in and added a lot of filler words just to make it a “book”.
She didn’t give as much details as I would have liked. You kind of had to assume based off what she gave. Overall, it wasn’t horrible but I don’t think it’ll be a book that I recommend.

porsha is my all time fave housewife, and this was a decent memoir, but it could've been anyone's memoir. i got the impression that porsha wanted to be taken more seriously than she usually is portrayed, but this book felt sanitized and devoid of personality. porsha herself is so funny and charismatic, and that's why this was a disappointing read to me. rupaul's house of hidden meanings is a great example of a diva rebranding as a serious author and doing it really well, but unfortch, this doesn't even come close

4/10

Porsha is a likable person, which is why I decided to read her memoir. I usually don’t enjoy critiquing someone’s personal story, but this book lacked depth, which is why I gave it a three-star rating. I enjoyed listening to Porsha and her sister read this book; their energy was amazing. If she writes another book, I’ll definitely read it. This book left me wanting to know more, and I’m not sure if that was intentional or not, but I don’t think she’s fully told her story yet.

5/10 ⭐️

I’m a Real Housewives Junkie, so I grabbed it from the library. Porsha reads the book (with some help from her sister), and I definitely enjoyed that. I learned some things that I didn’t know before, but I was pretty disappointed that none of the Simon stuff was mentioned! If you’re a RHOA fan, you should listen to this one.

I deeply appreciate the vulnerability Porsha displayed in this book, and the only reason I didn’t give a five star is because I feel the overall message and closing were rushed. I feel like two chapters were missing still haha but that does not discredit her truth or personal accounts which I truly appreciate ❤️
