Boo's Shoes - A Rabbit and Fox Story: Learn To Tie Shoelaces

Rate this book
No Laces! That’s what Boo, the bunny, always says. He doesn’t want to learn to tie them. He has plenty of shoes for every occasion and none of them have laces or strings. So, what’s the point of learning to tie? His friend, Farah Fox, convinces him that it’s a skill he can use. . . and one that might make him happier, too.

This book is meant to be a parent-child activity. Youngsters can read Boo’s story and their parents can help with the how-to-tie instruction pages. A fun shoelace-themed “I Did It” badge is included at the back of the book to give in celebration of conquering this difficult task.

Exercises in manual dexterity build self-esteem in children. Knowing how to tie shoe-strings, scarves and more into a bow is a useful and rewarding skill.

“Teach a child a useful skill. Build confidence and self-esteem that lasts a lifetime.”
Author, Sybrina Durant

Hi:

I am the author of many different types of books. Some are technical and others are fanciful. Illustrated books are my favorite. I believe that you can capture a reader’s attention with a good story but amazing artwork will reel them in and keep them riveted.

Check out my newest series titled Magical Elements of the Periodic Table. Books are presented by unicorns, dragons, wizards, knights and goblins. It's Techno-Magical.

Boo's Shoes is my last rabbit and fox book and it is a companion to Cleo Can Tie A Bow! Make sure to put it on your bookshelf so that you'll have it handy when you know someone who wants to learn to tie their shoelaces or any other kind of bow.

Journey To Osm - The Blue Unicorn's Tale is my first full-length novel. Please look for it on these Goodreads Listopia lists and give it a vote up on a few of them. https://www.goodreads.com/list/book/4...

Please look for "The Blue Unicorn's Journey To Osm Illustrated Book For Teens and Older Readers" on this Goodreads Listopia. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9... A vote from you would be fantastic.

I've also written a companion book for little children called "Unicorns From Unimaise - The Magical Metal-Horn Tribe."

I also believe if you teach a child with a story and pictures, they will remember it forever. With that in mind, I wrote the "Learn To Tie A Tie With The Rabbit and The Fox" series of instructional books for boys and girls.

You can also vote for it on the best book for children to learn how to tie, here:

Synopsis: Boo the bunny owns a countless pairs of shoes for every function, but none of them have laces or string. Why? Because he doesn't see the point in learning to tie shoes. But then his friend Farah the fox gifts him a pair of lace shoes and convinces him to learn this skill.

Thoughts: I love how this book promotes not only parent-child quality time but also allows children to learn a new skill to improve their motor development. The "I Did It" badges included in the book for the children are a great idea. The illustrations in the book were amazing for visual learning and so is the easy brief language used. Highly recommended for young children.

Boo's Shoes is a super cute story about a rabbit, Boo, who receives a gift from his fox friend, Farah. New shoes with....laces! Although they seem scary at first Boo is learning to tie them in no time! The story is fairly short, rhymes, and would be great to share with anyone frustrated about the art of shoe lace tying. Illustrations are colorful and fun. I absolutely love the extra parts of the book like the step by step pictures, song, and fun ways to tie laces, but the best part for me is the "I did it" badge. What a cute idea! This book is fun and encouraging! Thank you to NetGalley and Sybrina Publishing for an ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Boo is an adorable little bunny who loves shoes. He has tons of shoes: flip-flops, clogs, wheeled shoes, slippers, cowboy boots and on and on and on. These shoes have one thing in common.... none have laces! Why should Boo learn to tie annoying strings if he doesn't need to?

One day his good fox friend Farah knocks on his door with a mysterious box. When Boo opens it up he discovers the gift is a pair of new shoes... with laces! Oh no! Boo wants nothing to do with shoes he has to tie. Farah encourages him and promises to help him along with the process. She says it's a skill he needs to know. It's not only for tying up shoes she tells him but for other things as well. She goes on to explain that it is used for ropes to rig a sail, to fly a kite, to tie fly when you fish and to make a bracelet to share with a friend, just to name a few.

Finally Boo agrees to give it a go and with patience and practice he succeeds at something he has dreaded for so long. Now that he can tie he feels he can accomplish anything! Hurray for Boo!

The illustrations are wonderful and very helpful. At the back of the book the author offers step-by-step instructions as how to tie up a pair of shoes with laces. Referring to both the visuals and the text small kids will be able to learn this valuable skill easily. This educational book with its interactive component will be a blessing for both parents and kids. I highly recommend it.

This beautifully illustrated story discusses Boo’s wide collection of shoes and how he uses the various types of shoes he has collected. However, in all his collection, there are no shoes with laces. Why are there no laces in his collection? You have to read to find out what happens when he’s gifted a pair of shoes with laces.

This is an engaging story that will appeal to the whole family, but will be especially appealing to young children as they tend to develop strong feelings about what they wear very early on.

Teaches the important life skill of tying shoes. The author has included a song about shoe tying and a printable certificate for the little ones when they achieve their goal.

My friend’s son has been struggling to learn to tie his shoes…and a little while ago I watched her struggling to teach him. I looked on Amazon and searched incase a book would come up that could help, and I became aware of “Boo’s Shoes.” How glad I am I made the search.

It’s a really nice book with a lovely story of a rabbit who doesn’t know how to tie his shoelaces, but with the help of a friend and lots of practice Boo learns how to do it.

It has great illustrations to assist and compliment the exercise and draws the kids in with plenty of fun! Oh… it did exactly what it was supposed to, her son is now tying his own shoe laces and has another fun book in his growing collection.

A cute story of a Rabbit who learns how to tie shoelaces by his friend Farah Fox. He owns a lot of pairs of shoes but without laces. He keeps himself out of the mess/trouble of tying up the laces. His friend Farah Fox encourages him to learn a new thing which will eventually help him in other things/tasks as well. The book gives a great message to never be afraid of trying something new and take the plunge. Overall an adorable read with amazing illustrations.

Boo's Shoes - A Rabbit And Fox Story: Learn To Tie Shoelaces by Sybrina Durant
Boo's Shoes is an adorable picture book that encourages children to learn new skills and develops self-care and independence skills in children.
Once there was a bunny named Boo, he had a lot of shoes to wear in different designs and styles, from flip-flops to rolling shoes, from cowboy boots to puddle boots, but none of them have laces or strings.
Boo doesn't want to learn to tie shoelaces because laces look like a mess for him.
One day, his friend, Farah Fox, gifted him a pair of shoes with laces, and she planned to teach Boo that lacing or knotting is not just for the shoes, but it is an essential skill for many outdoor activities.

This book teaches social skills like tying shoelaces, scarves, and hair into a bow and helps build self-confidence and self-esteem in children. The illustrations are colorful and help children understand the story with the picture themselves, and I'm sure children will love this book and read it again and again.

Perfect for 2+

"Boo's Shoes - A Rabbit and Fox Story" is an interesting children's book penned by Sybrina Durant and Illustrated by Pumudi Gardiyawasam.

Story features a Bunny, Boo who is fond of wearing shoes of all types be it Flip Flops, Clogs, Slippers, Boots and many others for every occasion but he didn't like to wear shoes with laces. Read this story to know why Boo doesn't like shoes with laces. Readers will definitely enjoy this story.

The story is unique. I enjoyed reading it from the first page itself. Cover photo of the book is very attractive and the language of the book is lucid so kids can understand it easily. Pace of the story is fast. It will catch the kids' attention in the first go. This book would be a great addition to the children's bookshelf. This Book also has an instruction page on how-to-tie laces.

Boo is totally precious, but he's determined not to tie shoelaces. That s a "skill" that is hard for little hands to learn and some children would rather avoid it. And often parents would prefer to buy slip-on shoes, rather than to struggle with a stubborn or discouraged child who really doesn't want to trouble themselves in learning to tie shoelaces. This book could inspire and encourage children to try to master the skill and to win the "i Dit It" badge. great book, much recommended!

When I first decided to take a look at this book, I figured it was just going to be another one of those cute little children's books. To My surprise it was very educational. It went into great detail about teaching the children to tie their shoes. It doesn't just say it with words, it gives them great illustration. Ghost book is awesomely written and wonderfully illustrated

Boo is a little rabbit who doesn't want to learn to tie his shoes. His friend the fox helps him to learn how to tie shoelaces, and encourages him to keep learning!

This book was just okay. The text is told in rhyme, and it's not very well done. Sometimes the number of syllables in each line does not match like it should. Sometimes the words don't even rhyme at all, or they are not very good rhymes. I don't know why people insist on writing children's books in rhyme when the story would be so much better in prose.

The story itself is cute and fun, and I liked the sweet characters. The best part of the book is the description of all of Boo's different types of shoes. He has a lot of shoes without laces, even skates and boots and jumping shoes!

The artwork is nice and I liked the colorful design of each page. It has a nice polished look that you would expect from professional artwork. The bright colors are attractive, and the facial expressions of the characters are so cute!

Boo's Shoes is a fun and thoughtful children book to teach them the skill of tying shoelace and making knots.

Tying the shoelaces might seem a simple task as a grownup but when you see it from a child's view, then you'll know the challenges. Many children find it difficult to tie their shoelaces and depend on someone to do it for them, mostly their parents.

Sybrina came up with this fun filled book for children that can help them learn this task while also enjoying the story it has to offer.
The wonderful illustrations in the form of Boo rabbit and Farah fox is a great way to teach the children to not give up on anything that seems difficult. They must keep on trying to learn new skills.

Would definitely recommend to all mommies out there looking for children books❤️

Interview with the Author:

Why did you choose this setting?
Hmmm...well, the forest setting is where my characters, Boo the Bunny and Farah Fox live. But this forest has a touch of fantasy about it as Boo lives in a hobbit like abode. My favorite book series is Lord of the Rings so that’s appropriate.

Do you have a favorite character from this book?
I like the bunny and the fox equally. Boo is adorable but he behaves quite childishly at times. The more mature young fox, has a way of calming and encouraging him to be his better self.

Did the story end up where you thought it would when you first started?
Yes, the story starts out with a young bunny who doesn’t want to learn to tie his shoelaces. He doesn’t think he needs to know how to tie. Farah Fox shows him that learning to tie is a skill he can use for many things. All is well that ends well for our forest friends. Boo’s Shoes is the last of several books in my Learn To Tie With The Rabbit and The Fox Series. They are all available at the Rabbit and the Fox Book Store on my blog at Sybrina.com.

Do you prefer to write your first drafts on paper, a computer, a typewriter, through dictation or a combination?
I started out writing books many years ago before there were personal computers so I didn’t know any other way to write besides with a pencil and paper. When computers came around it took me years to get comfortable with thinking into a keyboard. Now, after doing it for so long, I couldn’t imagine having to go back to the old way. Words now flow through the keys just as easily as they once did through a pen.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Oh, I am a plotter. I’ve got to know what’s going to happen every step of the way throughout the writing process so I use outlines, inspiration pics and much more as I go along. I even go so far as to create a virtual screen play for the illustrator to follow.

What does your writing space look like (or your ideal one if you don’t have as designated space)?
I have two writing spaces and they are very different from each other. The one at my first home is a windowless cave filled with books. The other, at my weekend home, is a minimally furnished space with big windows overlooking a scenic lake. I prefer the view of the lake when

I’m writing but I do get easily distracted so I seem to work better with no beautiful scenes to lose myself in.

What’s your least favorite household chore and what one do you not mind doing?
My least favorite household chore is anything I have to bend over to do as doing so causes excruciating pain in my forehead. Ha! That doesn’t leave much for me to not mind doing. Actually, though, I don’t mind doing dishes at all. I enjoy standing at the sink, thinking.

Would you rather never hit a red light again or never have to stand in line at a store again?
I love going to stores and don’t mind standing in line at all. It’s an opportunity to speak to total strangers and to share a smile or two. As far as red lights go, I’d rather travel in a helicopter!

Is cereal with milk a cold soup, why or why not?
Technically, I think soup liquid should consist of broth and I think the broth should contain meat and vegetables whereas cereal would taste kind of terrible with broth. So, no – cereal with mild is not a cold soup in my mind.

* How attractive is the story? Excellent (5/5)
* How professional is the book’s appearance? Excellent (5/5)
* What are my impressions of the overall story? Good (4/5)
* How appropriate is this book for children? Excellent (5/5)

Boo the Bunny does not want to learn to tie shoes. Why should he bother, when his shoes don’t have laces? When Farah Fox buys him new shoes, she teaches him that tying shoes isn’t as scary as he might have thought.

Teaching children to tie their shoes is never easy. With so many laceless shoes out there, three of my children (including an eleven-year-old with autism) have yet to master this skill. So the four of us sat down to read this book together.

I selected this book because I found the cover and blurb very attractive. The layout and artwork were very professional, as was the grammar and editing.

The story is in two parts: the first part shows the story of Boo resisting and eventually learning to tie his shoe while the second part provides a step-by-step instruction for young children. I have to say, I was a little disappointed. First, I would have liked the instructions to have been integrated into the story. I wanted to see Fox showing Bunny each step. I wanted to see Bunny getting frustrated by how difficult it is. (My four-year-old threw her shoe across the room on the first try.)

My second disappointment was the step-by-step instruction. While informative, it was very wordy and difficult to read. I found myself summarizing the step for my children instead of reading the words. While this book admits to being designed to be read with a parent, I was hoping it was something my independent readers would be able to read alone. However, due to the complexity of the instructions, I did not really feel this was the case.

I also found this story difficult to read. At times, especially when Farah Fox was speaking, it felt like the story wanted to rhyme. However, most of the time it didn’t. It’s not that I believe all picture books should have rhyme, but this book seemed to have trouble committing one way or the other and that made it difficult to read aloud.

That said, I found the beginning of the story engaging and the characters entertaining.

My thanks to the author and AuthorsXP for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

‘Tying laces can be fun. Together we can get it done.’

Texas author Sybrina Durant is a prolific writer of children’s books as well as her very successful four volume series SYBRINA’S PHRASE THESAURUS. Her children’s books include the multi-volume UNICORN series, 123 COUNT WITH ME, YARASHELL ABBILY AND HER VERY MESSY ROOM, HELP YOURSELF: LEARN TO PRODUCE PUBLISH AND PROMOTE YOUR BOOK ON YOUR OWN, and THE RABBIT AND FOX series, of which this new volume BOO’S SHOES is the newest volume. This helpful series includes CLEO CAN TIE A BOW and LEARN TO TIE A TIE WITH THE RABBIT AND THE FOX. Reading this newest version of CLEO CAN TIE A BOW demonstrates her impressive growth as a writer and producer.

With exceptionally fine illustrations by Pumudi Gardiyawasam that enhance the availability of the lesson of the book – how to tie shoelaces – Sybrina introduces Boo as follows: ‘There once was a bunny named Boo. He had a lot of shoes.’ his shoes include flip flops, clogs (even a wheeled one), slippers, boots – all of which he enjoys: none of his shoes have laces. Farah Fox visits Boo with a gift – a pair of shoes with laces! At first Boo is put off by the idea of laces, but Farah teaches Boo the art of tying laces and Boo is happy and thankful for learning a new skill. ‘Once Boo learned to tie his shoes, he felt there was nothing he could not do!’ The story includes excellent illustrations of how to tie shoelaces – all accompanied by fun images of Boo and Farah learning.

This is a clever idea for interactive learning that the author and illustrator have mastered – a fine way to entertain a child while interacting with parents to teach a valuable skill.

🍂Boo's Shoes is an interesting Children's book. I found it really useful as it delivers a very important lesson about learning new things in life... Life is all about learning, we should keep on trying newer things in life.

🍂Author has written this in a very interesting way, I really liked her writing style.
I loved the illustrations in the book and book cover was really colourful too.

🍂 Boo has a lot of shoes in his collection, He has different styles of shoes for different events but he doesn't have any shoes with laces.
Because he doesn't know how to tie the laces and he haven't enver tried learning itt so he is not interested in buying such shoes.

🍂 His friend Farah fox, urges him to learn that how to tie the laces as it is a skillful thing. When someone learns new skill he becomes happier too... Read how Boo's became happier then😍

🍂This is a Children's story but anyone who doesn't like laces should tryy itt!! It is fun.
I really loved the wayy how instructions are given, children will. Love to learn from this book.

𝐁𝐨𝐨'𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐞𝐬 - 𝐒𝐲𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭

This story is about a bunny named Boo, He has a vast collection of shoes, including flip flops, clogs, cowboy boots, snow boots etc, almost every type of shoe but he doesn't have any pair having laces. Boo finds it problematic to tie the laces thus he never got himself a pair of lace shoes. But one day his friend Farah Fox turned up on Boo's door and presented a gift. In which Boo finds a new pair of shoes with laces it made him anxious, because he thinks that it's a useless skill to learn. So he refused to learn but Farah Fox explained that learning to knot is useful not in just tieing shoes but can be used in flying a kite, fishing and other things.  After understanding this, Boo learned to tie and was delighted with it.

This is a short illustrated story that teaches a skill in a fun way. The words flow in a lyrical rhythm making it easy for children's to understand. All the illustrations were beautiful. And the best part about it is that the author also included children's friendly instruction pages for them to learn looping and tying skills. A quick and fun read.

𝑻𝒊𝒕𝒍𝒆: Boo's Shoes: A Rabbit and Fox Story

𝑴𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘:
If you are looking for a book that will help your child to learn how to tie shoe laces then "Boo's Shoes - A Rabbit and Fox Story" penned by Sybrina Durant and Illustrated by Pumudi Gardiyawasam would be the perfect pick.

Main character of the tale is a bunny named Boo. He has different types of shoes but all those shoes don't have laces. Boo isn't sure how to tie laces. Give a quick read to this wonderful story to know how Boo finally learns the art of tying laces and that too in a fun and exciting way. This story will help the readers to build self confidence.

Writing style of the author is nice. Cover photo of the book is eye-catching. Title of the book couldn't have been more suitable than this. This is a good read for sure. Go ahead with this without any second thoughts. Looking forward to reading more books by the author. This book is highly recommended for parents, teachers and little readers.

My toddler loved this book. Loved the pictures, laughed at some of the jokes and rhymes, and was very engaged. It let me know that this book is probably going to be a hit with children.
That being said, I felt a lot of the 'rhymes' were stilted or relied on idioms or vocabulary that children of this age probably wouldn't really understand. I felt like the attempts to rhyme the words really detracted from the book overall, and I didn't enjoy reading it aloud. The illustrations were very nice, although the illustrations of trying shoes might have made the process appear more complicated rather than less.
There were some useful tips for parents and educators, and an award to give kiddos who successfully tied their shoes.
Very cute, interactive, and stylistically pleasing, and again, toddler-approved. I just didn't love the wording.

This is all about Bunny Boo and his shoes. He has many different kinds—flip flogs, clogs, light-ups, and rollers. The only thing he was missing was a pair of shoes with laces…until his friend, Farrah Fox, shows up with a surprise.

“I know it seems scary. I can see you are wary. But tying laces can be fun. Together, we can get it done.”

With cute illustrations and fun rhymes, this book is a testament to trying something new and never giving up. You never know that you can learn a new skill until you try. The book even includes instructional methods on how to tie your shoes. It has the “Bunny Ear” and the “2 Loop.”

A great read and a good teaching tool for kids!
