This is a continuation of Kit and Tris' story, as started in Bad Girl
I've been betrayed by my own family, but that's OK, I've created my own to replace them. Tris, Len, Jackson and even the mysterious James, they're mine now and no one is going to break us apart.
My brother is trying to blackmail my family anonymously using a video of me. My father wants me mated to James no matter what. The powerful Chadwick family wants their beloved grandson mated to a suitable girl and they think that might be me. And no one wants what I have with my pack to endure.
Beforehand I was a bad girl, committing petty little social crimes at the edges of my family's sphere of influence, but the time for childish games is over. If I'm to keep the pack I know Tris and I need, I'm need to rise up and show I'm just as prepared to deploy all the power I've gathered to keep them safe.
No matter what it takes.
Read Defiant Girl, which will be the culmination of Kit and Tris' story, but not the end of The Season series.
“Society created gender and designation roles to make it easier for people to interact. Like proscribed steps to a dance, everyone knew their role. Except for some people, dancing those steps kills their soul. Some needed the freedom to make up their own steps.”
Sam Hall knocked this one outta the park. I have no words.
The way Hall used the ABO dynamics to explore transgender themes was fascinating. We got a male Alpha who was first designated an omega and discovers who he is throughout the story. And a male Omega who was first designated an Alpha, who transitions using hormones therapy.
To say this was utterly fascinating would be an understatement. This is the first time I read an OV where designations are treated as genders, and how some people differ from the designation they were assigned with.
Tristan’s journey was so interesting. I loved when he managed to finally mark and bond with Kit. That was such a culmination to all the buildup from the first book, I felt immensely satisfied.
The way Tris knotted Kit blew my mind. I let out a big ass gasp as I was reading lol And every scene with Tai (trans female omega) and Glint (cis female alpha) was also so interesting.
The way Hall explored gender and sexuality in this story is so incredible. I’m in total awe.
Theo’s journey was so satisfying as well. I was hoping he wouldn’t turn out to be a real threat to the pack, and when he presented himself into society as an Omega and people accepted him… fuck, I cried 🥲
This book is really intense. There are a lot of discussions regarding heavy topics. I loved to see the pack from Good Girl and what they were up to nowadays, too. And the smut was as intense and raw as everything else in this story.
I’m really glad I got an ARC for this and I hope we get more from these packs and world in the future
Oh hot damn this was so good!! It was a wild ride from start to finish and an absolutely perfect way to end. (It started off basically straight away from the end of Bad Girl so a reread of that may be necessary if you don’t remember exactly what happened.)
I loved the exploration within this book! Sam has written such an interesting take on the A/B/O dynamic and how not everyone actually fits into their designations. It was fantastic to see Kit and Tris explore and embrace their designations and also see how multi-faceted Len, Jacks and James are too. Despite all the trauma the pack went through, they came out remarkably well-adjusted. I wanted to join that pack sandwich by the end of the book tbh 😂
The big bad villain and the bomb drop plot twist was not what I was expecting at all. I don’t know how to explain it without giving spoilers so all I’ll say is that it was an epic conclusion to that storyline and a total plot twist.
The spice level was fantastic and I feel like we should all be really thankful to Sam for her smut 😂 it’s always a good time when you can have heaps of spicy scenes and still have a really good plot mixed in too.
I’m sad this is the end of Kit, Tris, Len, Jackson and James story but it really was a beautiful ending. It was well written, explosive, fun, cute and exciting and I highly recommend this omegaverse series to everyone!
Good conclusion to the 2nd book of series. I liked reading the story of Kit, Tris and their pack. I would love a novella about what happens next or a book about all the characters from the series, since they all know each other and plan to work together at the end.
Defiant Girl, the fourth book in the Seasons series by Sam Hall, was a stunning conclusion to Kit and Tristans story and I couldn’t be happier with how it ended! Sam has once again delivered another epic story about love, devotion and discovering and staying true to oneself—no matter how hard the outside forces may try to dictate beautiful your lives. This is the beautiful tale of two omegas fighting hard for their love and that of their pack and it did not disappoint!
Defiant Girl takes us right where Bad Girl left us with our group fighting for the right to make their own choices and love who they want—regardless of what they’re families say or do. This story contains a few twists and turns as surprise revelations occur and will take you on quite the ride as our beloved characters push boundaries and defy societal norms to discover just who they were meant to be.
I loved seeing how the relationships develop between Kit and Tris and the rest of their men throughout the story and the steam was absolute perfection! No one can write a story like Sam can that’s for sure! And the fact that you get to “see” some of the other characters from previous stories was epic making this one a definite read.
Overall, if you’re a fan of Omegaverse romances then this is the perfect one for you as it is and absolutely phenomenal read filled with a fantastic plot, dynamic characters and so much steam it will leave you begging for more! I can’t wait for more of this amazing world!
I've read most of Sam Hall's books at this point, and second to her new epic fantasy RH series, her omegaverses are my favorite. She's not a writer who shies away from details, and when dealing with and creating an ABO world, I feel like you need a firm grasp of what you want that world to be and what nuances of that society are going to affect the characters. She gives enough detail to make her stories unique but avoids bogging us down with info-dumps, which is especially important when you're this far in a series.
As far as The Season world goes, I think that Kit's stories burn a little more brightly in my mind. I like the interwoven romances within the pack, and it gives me the warm and fuzzies to know that Kit's starcrossed romance ends in a much happier way than Romeo and Juliet's. The pack as a whole feels a little more... wholesome is the only word that comes to mind, though it's not a perfect fit, than Cyn's and some of the moments between them are just so cozy.
In Defiant Girl, Hall wraps up the action, and although I think some of the side characters are still in need of some redemption or a slap to the back of the head, Kit's pack is in a place that makes me feel completely satisfied and happy with this read. To me, that's most important because they're the ones we go on this journey for, the ones who have us burning through these pages when we're supposed to be doing other things (shhhh).
I loved Kit and Tristan in Bad Girl absolutely loved them. Loved how they gave a big screw you to the people around them because they loved each other. They were going to be together no matter what. In this one we see again how Kit and Tristan are navigating being together and being in a pack. I actually loved all the guys in the pack and thought the smut was amazing. HOWEVER….. something felt off for me. Tristan had to find himself find his inner omega and know it was okay to need certain things. And of course Kit was there for him the whole way. As was the rest of the pack. For some reason I felt like Kit got left behind in places and the thing is I can’t even tell you where. I just like she needed more. I remember when she claimed Tristan in Bad Girl they had time to nest and it was wonderful. For some reason I didn’t feel the same way when Tristan claimed Kit. As far as the whole deal with her mom had about taking her dad down I didn’t buy it. I also thought Theo got off way too easily about the video.
Forbidden love between omegas. Finally free from her controlling father Kit must find out who she is within her pack. Lennox and James are her alphas, Jacks is beta and Tris is her alpha/omega. The cage of strict designation has been thrown away for this dynamic combined pack. Kit and Tris love one another and have to adjust to the others in their pack. Tris has to come to terms with feeling like an alpha but also with getting his own needs as an omega met. This pack must face Kits father and society’s prejudice. They are diversified and proud of being outside the cage life has put them in before becoming a pack. Lots of character growth for all of them. This was a great conclusion to The Season series and it left me with wanting more. Sam Hall brings her own twist to the A/B/O universe and I like it! From book 1 to book 4 I’ve been hooked to this series. I hate that this is the end because I could read about these characters for years to come!
Although I was supportive of the underlying idea that the author was trying to convey in this novel with how a person shouldn't bound by their biological designation, it made the book go into territory that I wasn't super interested in when I picked up this book, expecting a smutty omegaverse novel. Additionally, I didn't really truly understand what was really going on with Tristan by the end with his conflicting alpha and omega natures. Trying to redeem the brother and mother at the end of the novel because of past abuse wasn't really my cup of tea either.
The Tris/Kit duet (Bad Girl and this book) didn't really work for me overall, even if I did enjoy the other alpha/beta men in the harem.
I still plan to pick up future books in The Season series as I am interested in the world, even if I wasn't a fan of Tris and Kit.
Defiant Girl is a contemporary omegaverse romance. This is the fourth book in The Season series.
I absolutely love Sam's books! I can't help but get pulled into the books and binging them. The chemistry between Kit, Tris, James, Len, and Jackson is off the charts! Sam did a great job wrapping up the story. I can't wait for the next book in the series to be announced.
I would recommend this book if you like omegaverse romances.
Sam Hall really pulled at the heartstrings with Defiant Girl. It's the second part of Kit's story and the fourth book in the Season series and I absolutely loved it.
In true Sam style, this story went a little deep. It's taking a look at social molds and how everyone doesn't fit into those preconceived notions. How some take the time to find themselves no matter what society says and does what feels right for them. It's some pretty strong stuff and a few characters work on themselves in this book.
Kit is finally out from underneath her father and can be the omega she is. Expressing herself, allowed to love who and how she wants. In the middle of all this Kit takes a look at not only her new relationships but her relationship with Tris as well and how their relationship impacted them as individuals and as a couple. Kit comes a long way over the course of this book but the end results can't be denied.
Tris on the other hand is trying to figure out who he is. Is the alpha that Tris need with a strong bark? Or is he the omega that needs to be cared for? Loved? Who just needs. Tris has a lot more bite two him than I remember, all sharp words and harsh actions due to trauma but Tris works through a lot, is forced to do an introspective, and by the end knows who he is.
This is a poly relationship and Jackson has his place with Len, James, and the two omegas. The relationship between this group isn't easy, the alphas and beta is coming in with the two omegas already in a relationship. There is a lot to figure out but the five of them fit together and they are good together. I gotta say there's something about the biggest alphas being the sweetest, first, there was Rhys from Good Girl and now there's Len from Defiant Girl, they're my favorites. Speaking of Rhys, Cyn and her guys make another appearance in Kit's story. I loved seeing them again.
Of course, the story was entertaining, emotional, intriguing, and steamy af, I mean it is Sam's story. I love seeing Kit getting her pack and overcoming all the obstacles. Things from a ruthless father, a brother with an agenda, and social events that always seem to have some drama. There were a few key events and a couple of plot twists that made the story that much better.
Defiant Girl was a fantastic conclusion to Kit's story. It made me have all the feels, and think about social construct, featuring characters I that I loved. I'm gonna miss the characters in this series but at least they have their HEA. However, I won't be sad for long there's more to come in the Season series.
5 stars- I loved this one just as much as "Bad Girl," for all the same reasons.
"Society created gender and designation roles to make it easier for people to interact. Like proscribed steps to a dance, everyone knew their role. Except for some people, dancing those steps kills their soul."
Sam Hall, you are a genius. "Bad Girl" and "Defiant Girl" are the first two omegaverse books I have read where A/B/O designations are treated as genders. We are treated to some of the very best transition/discovery stories within these books--in this one, primarily through Tristan and Theo's journeys (Theo is Kit's brother).
Tristan's journey... guys.... this book looks like a fluffy omegaverse read, but let me tell you, it is anything BUT. Tristan's journey was intense. Tristan carries an omega designation, but mostly identifies as an alpha. Biologically, he needs some of the physical omega care, but in his mind, he is an alpha. This makes his relationship with Kit- and in this next installment, his relationship with the rest of his new pack- rocky, uncertain and tense.
"I'm hers," Tristan said in a ragged tone. "Everything I have, everything I am, belongs to her. I love her so f*cking much, it feels like it's going to tear me in two."
He is madly in love with Kit, but needs to understand where he fits into her sexual satisfaction for the first time in their ten-year relationship. He also needs to understand how to open himself to being comfortable enough to embrace both his alpha and omega sides, and in order to do so, he really needs to let his pack guide him- and being vulnerable, being guided-- this is NOT something that comes naturally to our Alpha living in Omega skin.
"I know you're still working out what the hell you are, but part of it is this. You like being pinned down, having your choices taken away. Shit, I used to f*cking love it when Len did it to me, get all growly and demanding, and part of me hopes he still will. But the thing that bites deep for you is that Kit will never be able to give this to you. You love her, you need her, but... but we can, Tris. Whenever you're ready, we can give you this."
The lengths the alphas (and our resident beta, Jacks-- ) go through in order to ease Tristan into this discovery are huge. The scene where Jacks takes Tris and Kit to Abaddon so they can work with Glint and Tai to understand the mechanics of sex between a couple like them-- the INSANE emotions I felt when Tris was FINALLY able to knot Kit because of it- wow. Just, wow.
"F*ck, I love being inside you," Tris ground out between gritted teeth. "It's the only time I feel like I'm physically as close to you as my heart is." His hands clawed at me as he surged forward. "If the world were fair, I'd never go soft, never leave you, just spend my life exactly like this."
I loved every damn thing about this book. It brought me to tears near the end, as we see Theo embark on his own journey, and watch him present to the world, for the first time, as an Omega. These books are such amazing portrayals of staying true to yourself, and of gender versus sex-- I just couldn't get enough of how these topics were written in this story.
I cannot believe I haven't said it yet, so let me say this now-- the way that Sam Hall writes the damn spice is UNPARALLED. I mean- WOW. Tris and Kit are on absolute fire- and that omega/omega biological thing, combined with Tristan's alpha brain- oh GOD.
"Each one of my lovers would bring something to the table, I realized, and that went well beyond biological differences. Right now, it was Tris' savagery that I needed, those ferocious thrusts setting me alight in a way my alphas would never be able to. They were so big that their knots complicated things, meaning they had to be careful, bit not Tris."
I also absolutely loved how different our alphas are- Len and James are literally nothing alike. We have a giant, blue-collar, self made man, a huge teddy bear protector in Len--a man who values omega aftercare more than he does the sex itself-- and an aristocratic artist in James- influential in his old family's money and his talent- larger than life- who is a total DOM in the bedroom.
"I was forthright and independent and perfectly capable of making my own decisions, but part of me... sometimes, it longed not to. Sometimes, it wanted to just lay down the burden of being alive and simply give in. That was what flushed through me right now, as I was held naked across James' lap. He would decide what my body would do, how I would be touched, and which terribly pleasurable things he would do to me."
And I will not discredit Jackson for one second, as he is the glue that holds this mess of designations together- I loved how big his heart was (and how damn patient he was through all of it).
I cannot recommend this series enough. I do think that Kit and Tristan's story (Bad Girl and Defiant Girl) are the winners here- although I liked Cyn's book (Good Girl) I felt that we were missing some character development when it came to two of her alphas. The pack here seems more developed, whole and heartwarming. "Bad Girl" and "Defiant Girl" can be read without reading "Good Girl" first, so if you are on the fence you may want to just begin by jumping into "Bad Girl."
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
You have to read the previous books to have an idea of what this is all about. I won’t give spoilers, for me they skew the view and limit the connections you need for an authentic bonding with the characters lives as they unfold. I have 3 sections here. 1 for triggers 2 for preferences and 3 for the actual story. The way people go about hurting the, selves and others as a way to control and shame, is antithesis to these stories, but humanity can be slow to evolve and petty when presented with intimacy that makes them feel something new, so I feel all areas are needed. 1-That being said, there are also triggers of neglect and emotional abuse as well as physical and sexual abuse. The abuse is not detailed in the case of the sexual abuse but it’s all throughout, hinted at and relayed through threats and whispered tales of “line up or it will be allowed to,happen to you” instead of “it’s wrong that it happens to anyone and we will stop it from everyone so you are safe too.” The societal pressures, expectations and blind eyes turned to gross abuses of power are more blatantly shared through book 1, the pressures continuing through the rest of the books. These are legitimate triggers. 2-Preferences may also be jarring, but they aren’t triggers unless you’re a judging close minded bigot. Being presented by another’s chocolate is not an attack on your love for caramel. The adults who get up to their preferred erotica in lust and love, are consensual and safe. No kink shaming here. Don’t devour the most refined chocolate and complain you wanted caramel through a nasty review. It’s petty and basic, no one likes that. Men love men, women love women some love many out in the open and behind closed doors, and trans bodies are human bodies always.I personally find slick kinda icky, but it is part of a fantastic story of love and longing and I “came” for the love. 3-Now all that is out of the way, I feel it imperative to say, Sam Hall allows me all the most delicious refined chocolate my love filled heart desires a with all the intellectual sensuality and stimulation I need to surrender to a story with all my being. I can fall asleep and see her characters as real as my friends from a younger life before the monotony of life got in the way of my living. It may seem overdone, the thought of a story awakening pieces of your sleepy spirit, but we all chase after that ember that reignites our being, it’s why entertainment exists after all. Sam has a way, to allow you to be frustrated with a character while embracing them, because at the heart of love is a knowing so deep you can’t help but embracing the whole. This book is the second with our new group of loves centered around a defiant girl, who’s defiance is based on wanting love for herself, as herself, and for all those she cares for to be loved just as fiercely for themselves. That drops out all of the machinations of small minded and heavy handed figures who try to limit souls to roles assigned with no variations allowed. That leaves out insecure persons who must through any means necessary defend and extend the status quo, as they have no way to control what they can’t understand. Uncertainty in power leaves those who should be using every means to protect what they supposedly hold sacred, to break the sacred into small unholy chunks of brokenness. It’s a read that can be as simple as royal like conniving, mystery and excellent amounts of pressing flesh, or it can be as heavy as a discovery and ownership of self and all the ugly truths of accepting your whole being and loving yourself first to love others better while teaching them to love you as you deserve. I find it soul stirring, panty melting and heart affirming. You may too.
Here we are again with my lovers. This book was a fantastic culmination of the story. I still really wish we got some multi POVs but everyone’s relationship development was so sweet. And hot!
The plot thickens but I’m just here for the love tbh.
Tris accepting who he is was amazing. Kit helping him build his first nest was such a sweet scene. Every scene with him showing and accepting affection from the others, outside of Kit (and with Kit tbh), was so intense because of how hard he’s fought those feelings and instincts. Him finally being able to claim his omega and give her everything he never thought he could changed something in him. Settled his aggression and possessiveness. He was able to just be. And he had more than enough willing participants to explore all sides of himself with. (;
Tris and Kit both got closer to the others and found a rhythm as a pack. There bonds got very strong. I have to say I really loved James in this. He’s adorable and such a poet. His longing for the omegas was desperate and sure. Jackson was everyone’s favorite worshipper, and friend. Len was also a star. He’s everyone’s safety net. I found it fitting that he was the one to claim Tris and Kit first, and that James was the one to be claimed by the omegas. But these were all formalities to a possessiveness that took root in them before the omegas’ heats.
I loved the scene with Tris and Kit’s dad. The exploration of designation being fluid or “not the right fit” is so interesting in such a confining genre.
The epilogue scenes just warmed my heart. I’m so happy for this pack of divergents.
Defiant Girl is a reverse harem omegaverse romance and the long-awaited conclusion to Bad Girl. I enjoyed the first half of this duet and after the cliffhanger we were left on I was eagerly awaiting the release of this book to find out what happens with Kit, Tris and their men.
Well Sam Hall has done it again! She knocks it out of the park with not only the emotional and engaging plot but also her ability to create characters that readers can relate to while also pushing the boundaries of our thinking and the genre. This duet raises the idea of a person being born into the wrong designation, whether alpha or omega, and the impact that can have upon their psyche. Within the plot is the firm belief that “ABO is a power dynamic, not a life sentence” which is a powerful message to send beyond the context of this book. Kit, Tristan, James, Len and Jackson are wonderfully written and continue to explore their unconventional pack dynamic in this book leading to many steamy scenes with the spice and chemistry for which Sam Hall is known.
Defiant Girl carries on the tradition of The Season series of conveying important messages cloaked in omegaverse stories. You do get to revisit with your favorite characters from the first duet, because of course Marcus has his fingers in every pie, and you also get a hint at where this series may be heading in the next book. Defiant Girl may not be your traditional omegaverse romance but it has all of the hallmarks of the trope along with an overarching storyline that just keeps getting better each book.
Kit is one of my fave heroines, she's an omega but she's complex and her pack of guys? They are just gorgeous, inside and out. Len and James, the Alphas are just wonderful and so different from each other and with everyone else. Then Jackson, the beta, the safe place - such a honey and then there's Tristan. So complex, so devoted to Kit, but definitely not to his designation of Omega. I love Kit and Tristan's love, how it transcends what society thinks of them, how they think of each other and how Kit learns to just embrace him for who he is. Altogether, as a pack? That's where the magic in this book really comes out. This is the second book in the duet and fourth in the two sets of duets! If you've been waiting for this book to come out, before reading the others, then now is the time to jump on these books! Sam is an amazing author and I love her take on tropes, this is her take on omegaverse and while she sticks to the unwritten designation rules, I love that she has entered into this space, what if what you feel inside doesn't meet your designation? Of course there are big parallels here with the Trans community and I love that Sam didn't take that lightly, in a word where we are all different and unique I just wish that the rules no longer applied and everyone could just be who they are, people who are ignorant or bigoted will stand in the way but that doesn't mean its right! Love is love.
I first found this series as I read the first chapters of defiant girl. I was swept up by the characters and needed to know what happened to get them there, so I needed to read Bad girl first.
I had them both sitting on my kindle for a little while as I got other reading done, and could no longer wait. Two almost sleepless nights later, I have devoured both bad girl and defiant girl. I did not want to put either down and I read when I really should have been doing something else, but nope, didn't.
Defiant girl starts on the high of them getting what they want. As every one knows, no matter how well things work at home behind closed doors, the real world is still out their and will work to crush whaf it doesn't understand. Danger comes in many forms and the pack works to solidify themselves.
This story is omegaverse, but different from others I have read. We get the dark but also get the soothing, uplifting, and caring side. I am over the moon by how much these characters get each other. The way they put aside what should for what could be. The communication is outstanding. I found myself cheering for them and basking in the moments when things worked.
As the culmination of their story, I was over the moon to get so much more story after the conflict is dealt with. So many stories just end. Here, we get to enjoy seeing the pack move forward together.
Did I expect this (in conjunction with the previous book about Kit and Tristan, Bad Girl) to be incredibly emotionally complex and surprisingly deft at making a statement on gender identity and how it should be determined, while ALSO being one of the most erotic things I've ever read? No, no I did not. The first one was good, and really hot, don't get me wrong. But there was something extra special to me about Kit and Tristan finding their strength in who they were rather than trying to be strong while pretending to be the thing that was expected of them. I didn't feel that there was too much talking about relationship dynamics. It feels pretty realistic; there really is SO MUCH talking about that stuff in poly relationships, and just falling together and all sex makes it feel forced (see: pron). While there is a ton of smut in this book (really, so much) it's all very infused with emotion, there's actually, like, character development and plot progression and relationship building happening during sex scenes; it's really intimate. I haven't ever read anything in the omegaverse genre before, and I can't decide if I want to read more based on this. Either it's a great fit for me based on this example, or this is something unique, and the rest will disappoint due to the high bar this sets.
Sam Hall is one of my favorite authors and she's a queen! I don't know how every. Single. Book. Gets. Even. Better!? Well, they do. These books have so many levels to them and you can take your pick. Love smut? These are the books for you. Soooo much knotting, gushing slick, nesting and all that hot stuff. Want endless love that transcends everything? These books are for you. The pages are saturated with love and acceptance between Kit, Tristan and their pack, and you can't help but sink in to all the feels. Want to challenge your views of expectations and designated rolls in gender, society and norms? These books are for you. There's always a theme that challenges set norms and expectations, whether it is of women, your place in society, gender roles or family roles in Sam's books, and if you want to do a deep dive, it's all here for you to dig into. Omegaverse stories have been a bit iffy for me, since some of them border on dub-con/non-con and instincts ruling above everything else, whether the MCs want to or not, but I've loved every one of Sam's book in this genre and I hope she keeps them coming. Rambling aside, this book had me hooked, and you won't be disappointed for picking it up.
I was glad to get more of Kit & the guys in this installation. We definitely needed to see them get to their HEA. But after reading both books, I just wasn't able to connect to the characters or the story itself as much as I had hoped. Sometimes it felt like things were a little all over the place.
When it comes to omegaverse and/or reverse harem stories with many partners, it can be hard to really showcase all the different dynamics within the relationships. If it's not done well, it can be pretty glaring. I think the reason this was harder for this duet is because usually you have one person that everyone orbits around for the story; in this case, Kit. And while that was true, there was a lot of emphasis put on Tristan because of him coming into the duality of his who he is outside of the small boxes this ABO society allows. And while I understood what Hall was trying to do by highlighting gender fluidity as well as pushing against societal norms with many of the characters, there were so many threads to follow that we didn't get enough of any of them. I just felt like we jumped around between so many characters that I couldn't connect with anyone deeply enough.
A sweet ending to a sweet story. I’m glad this one wasn’t rushed to fit into a single book. There’s just too much complex social structure to go through to force it into one book. Mirror print our own world, this book challenges the idea of everyone being forced to fit into a singular mold, forced to fit into societies ideals of what a perfect person alpha/beta/omega (be that mirroring our own straight/lesbian/gay or male/female/non binary roles) going so far as to mental abuse from those who should understand and love their own children.
This story shows that acceptance can and does take time, even going so far as to show that there will always be those who will refuse and balk at change. With book one we had the challenge of loving more than one person. In this we expand on that with the challenge of designations. I am curious to see what the next book, if there is to be one, will challenge next.
I was also happy to see characters returning and having small parts in this story. Makes the story feel like it comes full circle.
I love Kit and Tris’ story and I am so happy with the conclusion! The love and devotion between the two omegas becomes even more clear in Defiant Girl, and then watching all of the different relationships develop throughout the story just melted my heart. The spice was phenomenal and group scenes were just 🥵🥵🥵
I especially enjoyed their repeat visits to Abaddon and the things they learn about each other and themselves. Watching Tristan explore the different aspects of his designation really seemed to parallel real world issues with body and gender dysmorphia. Other characters highlighted the similarities as well, and it felt very intentional and approached with care and sensitivity.
The fight for the right to make their own choices and love who they want, which started in Bad Girl, escalates here. There were definitely some surprises and some plot twists that I didn’t see coming! The ending was perfect for these characters and where they are in their journey.
Defiant Girl was fantastic! Kit and Tris go through so much growth and discovery in this book and I love how the pack dynamics are explored and developed. This series has so much depth and really explores getting to know yourself and not trying to fit into society's mold and to be who you are meant to be.
James, Len and Jacks round out the pack with the omegas and the chemistry is off the charts. This book is full of heat and complex relationships within the pack. I really loved how Jacks beta personality balanced everyone's intensity.
The twist at the end I did not see coming and I enjoyed how it played out. I highly recommend doing a reread of Bad Girl to refresh yourself on all the power players in this series. Sam Hall really knows how to give us all the feels with her HEA's that are all heart and answer so many lingering thoughts and questions. Thank you for another fantastic book Sam Hall!!
Can't believe how much I missed Kit and Tris. I love reading and seeing how their relationship developed, not because of adding Len and James to the group. But seeing how they viewed themselves and also how society viewed them. It raised an awareness that not everything is as it seems. Sam is very much an author who is careful but not afraid to approach traumatic experiences and real life issues, and make them understandable. Seeing Tristan develop from being just an omega, to someone who opened his heart, mind everything. Kit is the one who he pushed all his effort into without thinking of himself which lead to a lot of the friction in the series. Len and James along with Jacks cemented the group through everything that was thrown at them. I've got to admit it was Tristan that stole the whole book for me, it didn't feel like it was a book based on the FMC but it was... Somehow Sam nailed everyone's journey with only Kit's POV. Loved seeing this series until the end.

You can always count on Sam Hall to bring big heat plus big feels and Defiant Girl did not disappoint. This was the perfect conclusion to Kit and Tris’ story and one of my favorite contemporary Omegaverse worlds.
I loved the themes of embracing who you are while not labeling yourself according to societal standards. For the characters in this book, it’s not conforming to their assigned A/B/O designation, a message that most definitely resonates with some readers. One of the things I appreciate about Sam’s writing is that every sentence is written with intent, her stories always keeping me fully engaged, her characters layered and well developed, her storylines intricate and unique.
Much of the book is the pack finding their way with each other leading to lots of sexy scenes with our Alphas, Omegas and Beta. There were a few unexpected twists which kept things intriguing and fresh, and of course now I want books written about all of the side characters! If you are a fan of contemporary Omegaverse and haven’t yet read a Sam Hall book, you are missing out. I suggest starting with Good Girl and going from there. Love this world and hope to read more!
I think I'm in the minority in that I found Kit to be a frustrating FMC. This duet was supposed to be about Kit and Tris learning to accept themselves - which it is - but I feel like some of that personal growth is lost because the entire story is told from Kit's perspective. The story is told in first person POV and while it worked for the first book, I think this duet would've packed more of a punch if the second book had been told from Tris' POV. I wanted to know more about what he was thinking, feeling, experiencing, etc. Kit made some assumptions about what she thought Tris' was going through but he hardly ever comes out and states it for himself. He was experiencing this huge, pivotal movement and all the reader get is how it looks from the outside via Kit. Tris says multiple times that he would do anything, be anything for Kit and her for him BUT because we only get her inner monologue, it comes across as one sided.

Defiant Girl picks up where Bad Girl left off, and it was an utterly perfect duet. Kit is hoping that her changed circumstances will mean that she’s free of her family’ oppression, but of course it was never going to be that easy. I loved every minute of this. The relationship between the pack is absolutely electric, and I loved how each member of the pack was given exactly what they needed. Two of the characters deal with major identity crisis, and trying to figure out how they fit into a society where designations are so strict. Hall handled this issue like the pro she is, and I adored seeing both characters find their true selves. I would classify this as a sweetverse, which deals with relevant and important social issues. The writing is sharp and beautiful, the heat - in true Hall style - is scorching. I would definitely recommend.
Sam Hall has done justice to these amazing characters. When I finished reading Bad Girl and was unsure how they would overcome what had happened but not only did they but it was a triumph! But to get to that ending you must read the whole story. You can tell that she has put an immense amount of work into each exchange the characters have, nothing is overlooked. The book starts off with an intense scene between Tristan and Kit. At the beginning the 5 of them are trying to figure out how they fit together and still maintain their relationships from before while growing into their new reality. The heat 🔥🔥🔥 is sooo hot and everything you wanted. I also love the support they get from the matriarch of the Chadwick family. There is also the continued drama from Kit's family. There is a surprise twist to the end that I never saw coming and I loved it!!
Once again Sam plays with stereotypical gender roles in the best ways. The interactions between the characters are well written and make sense with what we know about them. Each person in the pack has their own individual relationships with the others. Nothing feels forced. I like the way that they have to communicate with each other to figure out the dynamics. They just don’t happily get together with no work. I love the dirty talk. It keeps things moving and gives us further insight into how the characters are feeling. There is a push and pull to the characters regarding their designated status. It’s nice to see them working on figuring out how to combine both aspects of their lives.
The romantic scenes are hot and creative. I like that there is individual time for each couple and group time together. The ending makes sense.
