This issue had a couple of storylines going between So Lucky and Aphra. I'm not that big of a fan of So Lucky but his story here gave us a little insight. Doctor Aphra had an archeological story going on that was pretty fun. Great artwork as always. I'm looking forward to the next issue.
”To never fear death. To live the life you always wanted. To be made whole and perfect. Who wouldn’t want that?”
Aphra and Sana are trying to catch Kho Phon Farrus, Aphra's old friend turned enemy, who is after the same thing they are: technology of the mysterious ancient cult, the Ascendant.
I'm really enjoying this arc. I love how creepy, strange and mysterious the rituals and technology of the Ascendant are. I'm also just really enjoying the character of Farrus and the way their storyline connects with that of Aphra and Sana. I'm eager to find out more about their past together and what exactly Aphra did to them to make them hate her so much - knowing Aphra, it could be anything.
Just Lucky also has his own storyline going on. This issue revealed some things about his past with Ariole and why/how their romance ended up going sour. I'm fond of their relationship - the two duos of this series, Aphra/Sana and Lucky/Ariole are both great - and I'm glad we're starting to see more of their past and how much they actually cared about each other. I do wish Lucky and Ariole's storyline would once again, at some point, intersect with Aphra's - I do like them as characters but they are not as charismatic as Aphra, so whenever they have a slightly less intriguing plot line, I'm always just eager to get back to Aphra.
This issue ended in such an intriguing way - can't wait for issue 19!
Despite the return of Just Lucky, this was pretty fun! I think the fact that they didn't dwell on a nefarious artifact trap and instead cut right to the ambush gave it additional levity.
But having just speed reread the original Doctor Aphra run, I really miss the dynamic between Tolvan and Aphra. Sana is all right but doesn't really wow me in terms of their chemistry. Ah well, maybe I can hope that Tolvan will cameo later.

I didn’t think this would be a good issue because I hate Just Lucky so much, but his storyline was quickly pushed aside for some archeological fun. AND next issue Doctor Aphra is going back to school! Though I am still confused about the whole Crimson Reign arc and if I should be reading other issues too like with the Bounty Hunters arc last year...
