2.5 stars, rounded down to 2 stars.

Disregarded & Adored: The Widower’s Perfect Match is the seventh book in the Love’s Second Chance: Tales of Damsels and Knights series by Bree Wolf and is a novella and historical romance.

It’s a nice story and the plot is quite good considering the length of the novella. But I just didn’t feel invested in any of the characters. It is important to note that I was familiar with Elaine’s character from previous books in this series, so I expected to be invested in her story, but I just wasn’t a fan of her woe-is-me attitude while even sometimes erring toward holier-than-thou.

I wasn’t really engaged in the story, but I did think it was sweet. But the big glaring issue, and the reason that I rounded down 2 stars, is the highly unlikely nature of the epilogue, even if it is a sweet sentiment meant to round off the story. It’s a sweet sentiment, but not in the least feasible and it felt like very lazy writing.

Viscountess Elaine Winters, a widow, has been married twice, but never for love. She's convinced she'll spend her life alone until her young son and his friend decide to play matchmaker and secretly arrange for the Viscountess and the Earl of Errington to spend time alone at his country estate. I love Regency romances, and it was so nice to read about an older heroine. I wish more second chance Regencies were written. This was a very enjoyable read.

A clean but passionate love story

Elaine Winters, the Viscountess Silcox has done her duty to her family, to her two husbands and to her son Jacob and daughter Julia. Now is her time to be free, even if it means being lonely. Sadly, she's never known passionate love and doesn't expect she ever will __ or will she?

Gilbert Stirling, the Earl of Errington and his son Ethan are close, but twelve years is a long time to be alone. He's found the only woman to peak his interest, but she does not seem to feel the same. So alone he will probably stay __ or will he?

I love a late-in-life, second-chance-at-love romance with a very happy ending. Disregarded & Adored is an especially tender and unique version of that theme. It is a sweet, character-driven novella that should make any romantic heart sigh. Elaine and Gilbert are so perfect for each other, but their second chance at true love will not come easy. However, it will be worth the wait. As with all of Bree Wolf's books, this one is well written, well balanced and totally entertaining.

Content 411: This is a clean read. Although there are some passionate kisses, there is no swearing and no sex.

I love stories where the main couple are more mature and have a great deal of life experience. Elaine and Gilbert seem to be content as they are with their respective families, but when their sons decide to play matchmaker, everything changes. This is a delightful story with a wonderful ending that grabbed my interest from the very beginning. Don’t miss this book!

Oh Gilbert and Elaine (sigh). I am absolutely head over heels love Gilbert and Elaine’s flirtatious love affair. Having the opportunity to take a holiday visit with an Earl in his castle. Yes the boys are there, but they kept themselves entertained. I like how this intimate relationship quickly played itself out. I visualized everything. The writer did wonderful with the clarity in writing each scene in the book. The romance was so sweet and adorable. I like how Gilbert didn’t give up on Elaine. He knew she was his. What a sweet book.

I’m so pleased Elaine has found love & a lovely romance it was between a mature couple. They were helped along by their two matchmaking sons. I loved the chemistry between Gilbert & Elaine & how she came to realise it's never too late to experience love & passion. A very well written delightful short story, which I read in a sitting & the epilogue rounded it off perfectly

Heart Warming!
I just love a romance where the children interfere in their parents love lives. The outcome it always hit and miss.
This is a remarkable story, well written and with really interesting characters.
Gilbert is the type of father everyone should have and Elaine is a loving and devoted mother. What more could one ask for in a story but two mischievous young and lonely boys who have become firm school friends. You can't imagine what they get up to to get their parents together and I couldn't believe how clever and insightful they were!
I loved the idea of this story and how it was written. It brought warmth and hope into my heart and was a total pleasure to read.
It is a perfect read to warm the cockles of one's heart!

From the beautiful cover, to the castle with its secret passages, secrets, and the warm and tender-hearted romance between 2 people given a second chance at love (instigated by their sons), this book had it all. I especially loved that even though Lady Elaine Winters and Gilbert Stirling, Earl of Errington were older and more mature widowed single parents who were given a second chance at love, their story had vibrancy and energy in it that only love can add to a story. Ms. Wolf writes such warmth and feeling into her characters, touching on their uncertainties, fears, and needs. A wonderful story! I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have voluntarily given my honest opinion in this review.

As always, a well written, sweet and very romantic tale.
The female character has been introduced on other books of the series but it can be read as a stand alone.
I loved that the two characters are not young people. The male character is very sweet, the dialogues are good and funny. The little boys play matchmaker and it is a well rounded story.
Too short because it is good. Only negative think is that I’d have love to know more about why he fell in love with Lady Silcox.
Very recomendable.

What a nice story this was. It was a clean well written story which I really enjoyed. It is about a middle-aged man and women who even though they were previously married to other people were never in love. This book is about them getting to know each other, through their sons who were friends. I enjoyed this story, I finished it in one night. I would recommend this story to everyone.

Elaine is the Viscountess of Silcox who has had two husbands and raised her children and now thinks to be alone. She had never found true love and thinks that she’d had two tries but probably never will. Gilbert is the Earl of Errington and had lost his wife twelve years ago leaving him with his son. He’s having a house party at Christmas and Elaine and her son go so that the two boys can have fun at the holiday. But after arriving finds it just the two that have been invited. It seems the boys are playing matchmaker for their parents. But Gilbert is interested it seems that Elaine really isn’t. Can he change her mind? Perfectly delightful!
Elaine and Gilbert made a perfect couple but it was a long time getting there for them. They both had been married before and lost their spouses for one reason or another and never thought they could find love. However, each of their sons being best friends, contrived to set them up. I was pleasantly surprised that the boys wanted them to fall in love and showed no animosity or jealousy. I positively adored the epilogue. This is a wonderful story to read over the holidays. Perfectly delightful.

2nd chance love? Or will it be 3rd times a charm for Elaine?
Gilbert and Elaine have different pasts for the most part, the few comparable are - Ethan, son of Gilbert, Jake, son of Elaine, both 12 years old, & best friends, (not to mention sly) and neither parent having been "in love" in their past.
Can that be changed, will luck &/or love find either or both of them?

While short, it is sweet and wonderful to see older characters finally get their chance and love and happily ever after. Jacob and Ethan are sneaky in getting their parents together. Nice in showing that a blended family can work.

Third time the charm?

Somebody please get this woman a relationship she deserves. Elaine has married twice for duty and responsibility. Her two previous marriages were not healthy, happy unions. Her adult daughter married and she is still raising her son.

Gilbert also has a son and he would like to marry again. He’d like to marry Elaine in particular. Will her unexpected stay at his home bring changed for her?

I liked a lot that Elaine was older, had been married (twice) and that Gilbert was also older and had been married before. They both have lived and had life experience.

Recommend.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story with great characters, romance and intrigue. She had been married twice, but never loved. The first left her and her daughter destitute, so she married the second for security. She provided his heir, but there were problems and ten he died. Now her 12 year old son and his best friend devised a scheme to get the parents together. It was fun and she finally had a happy ending. I voluntarily reviewed an advance review copy

Third time really is a charm!

I'm very pleased that Elaine Winters received her happily ever after with Gilbert Stirling! He was most attentive to her whenever they interacted at the school where both of their son's attended. While she was not exactly aloof, but more hesitant to listen to her heart and take the leap at love. She had already experienced two marriages where she was a participant by decorum and societal rules alone. But, never had she experienced the passion and love with either man. That is until she opened her heart to Gilbert.

I admire the machinations of the two sons in trying to set their widowed parents together. They even came up with a ruse to allow Elaine and Gilbert a lot of alone time - find all the hidden passage ways in the house. Very astute young men in the ways of relationships. I can see future books when they're grown and am curious to see what kind of woman they will fall in love with.

As with any of Bree Wolf's novels in the Love's Second Chance series, I was drawn in right from the opening sentence. This was a novella and a quick, fun read! I'm a sucker for Christmas themed stories, there's always so much hope surrounding the season. This book was no exception. There might even be a mistletoe kiss!

I have read all the other books in this series and it is wonderful to get to read Lady Silcox's story. She and her son Jacob had always seemed so sad and mistreated by Lord Silcox in the other books. In this book, Jacob and his best friend from school, Ethan, plot against their parents in order to spend the Christmas holidays together. Gilbert, Lord Effingham, is a willing participant as he has always found Elaine, Lady Silcox, bewitching. DELIGHTFUL!

We were introduced to Elaine in earlier books. Though at first it wasn’t obvious she would have her own story, the last book left no doubt.

I enjoyed the characters and their older love affair. I also liked the two young boys who played matchmaker. I am so happy to read about Elaine’s happily ever after.

Elaine Winters, Viscountess Silcox is so happy that her daughter, Juliet, is now happily married to Henri Durst. For herself, she has never been in love.

Elaine’s marriage to the late Lord Goswick was arranged. The man had been a drinker and a gambler. When he passed away. Elaine was left to struggle with debtors. Later she married Lord Silcox, gave birth to Jacob, now age 12, and then he decided they should live separate lives. He had only wanted an heir from her. Now, she is once again a widow.

Errington Hall, 1812

Gilbert Stirling, Earl of Errington, has just learned that his son, Ethan, age 12, has invited Lady Silcox and her son, Jacob, to a Christmas house party. He found out when he received a note from her accepting his invitation. While no party has been planned, Gilbert is undecided as to tell her or not. Gilbert became a widower when his wife passed away after Ethan’s birth. Now, his son thinks his father is lonely and that he and Lady Silcox will enjoy one another’s company. Of course, Ethan also wants his best friend, Jacob, to spend Christmas with him.

Elaine is shocked that there is no party but decides to stay as the boys are having so much fun together. She and Gilbert get better acquainted and their time together sparks a romance. Elaine finds herself in love for the first time in her life and Gilbert is in love with her as well. What does the future hold for them?

This is a sweet little holiday romance between two people who have never really known true love. Enjoy!

This is a sweet story in the Love's Second Chance Series and for the h in this story, ELAINE WINTERS, VISCOUNTESS SILCOX, it is actually her third chance at a happy ever after. She has been married twice before, the first one was an arranged marriage and the second to Lord Silcox was one out of financial necessity. She provided an heir for her husband and he provided for her and her daughter. After watching her daughter Julia find true love, Elaine is feeling slightly jealous at something she had never experienced. She feels she is too old to have that kind of relationship in her life but when two young friends get together to play matchmakers, she may be proven wrong. When she receives an invitation to Errington Hall from GILBERT STIRLING, EARL OF ERRINGTON, she decides it will be a good opportunity for her son and his to get to spend time together.

When Gilbert gets a letter from Lady Silcox accepting his invitation to a Christmas house-party- he is taken by surprise, since he has no plans to hold any type of Christmas parties. When he discovers his son has issued the invitation, he decides to go along with it. After being a widower for many years since the birth of his son, he is ready for love and the woman he is enthralled with is Lady Silcox. Having her spend time with him during the Christmas holidays may give him the opportunity to show her his feelings.

This is a clean story but there is a closed door premarital relationship between the H and h.

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.

The Best of Bree Wolf's Second Chance series!

Disregarded and Adored is book 7 in Bree Wolf's Second Chance series: Tales of Damsels & Knights. This book completes the second collection of Second Chance stories. Her first collection is Tales of Lords & Ladies. I am not sure which collection I enjoyed more! The first collection involved mostly marriage of convenience which slowly became love matches. However, Damsels and Knights involves stories about couples who defy society's norms in order to take a chance on true love. Both collections feature strong -willed women and men who are willing to sacrifice everything to protect them.
Bree Wolf brings a smile to your face and more than a few laughs as her characters stumble through the roller coaster of emotions that accompany the search for true love. Her characters are so well-developed they seem real. Reading her books is like having a front row seat at a Broadway hit on opening night. You are overwhelmed by the glitz and glamour that surrounds you, while you are mesmerized by the action and drama occurring on stage. Reading her Second Chance collections is an experience you don't want to miss.

I highly recommend Disregarded & Adored as well as the whole collection it belongs to. You can't go wrong with any novel written by Bree Wolf.

A clean and simple romance about two older mature people who are widowed. Elaine now widowed twice is harboring a deep dark secret that could bring about the ruin for her child and herself. Gilbert's son and Elaine's son cook up a match making situation to bring them together. Ethan is Gilbert's son and Jacob or Jake is Elaine's son. The two boys are best of friends and longed to spend the Christmas holiday together. They are so creative. It is so sweet. But they also know that Jacob's father Gilbert is in love with Elaine and is pleased with the prospect of spending the holidays together. Another aspect that was pleasing was how Jake was very protective of his mother. At twelve years of age spoke maturely to Gilbert that his mother is the kindest person he knows and deserves the utmost respect. Jake was in Viscount mode and it was so endearing and surprised Gilbert. As the boys explore the castle for hidden passage ways one of those bring Gilbert and Elaine together. Over time Elaine wanted to stay with Gilbert but had a secret that held her back. Little did she know so did Gilbert. A very good read.

I received a free copy of the clean historical romance Disregarded & Adored -The Widower's Perfect Match (Love's Second Chance Series: Tales of Damsels & Knights Book 7): by Bree Wolf and this review was given freely.

Set at Christmastime, this is a third chance at love story for Elaine Winters, Viscountess Silcox, and a second chance for Gilbert Stirling, Earl of Errington.

While there is some conflict, this is a heartwarming story of love and a blended family that transcends nationality and paternity. It contains drama in the forms of a little subterfuge, two inquisitive boys, an isolated castle full of hidden passages, a persistent affectionate suitor, and a happy ending.

Jealous of her daughter Juliet’s love match and despairing her chances of ever having one of her own, the over forty and twice widowed Elaine Winters, Viscountess Silcox finds herself a pawn in her son Jacob and his best friend Ethan’s matchmaking scheme, a scheme that Ethan’s father, Gilbert Stirling, Earl of Errington wishes he thought of years ago.

Sweet story about our h who has been widowed twice and never loved either husbands, or been loved by them. The H is also widowed and has a 12 year old son. The h has a 12 year old son and an older daughter.

I liked how their sons took control of spending Christmas together. This does take place at Christmas time but little reference to the holiday.

Both are in their middle aged years. We don't know the H exact age, but the h we are told has made it through almost 5 decades. As another reviewer pointed out I had a problems with what we are told in the epilogue. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the epilogue but I found it not to be likely - no spoiler's.

Bedroom door almost all the way shut and have a few kisses.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, the story did end at about 92% on my e-reader. I did find the story romantic and they were believable as a couple. You understood her being hesitant in thinking love was for her.

Even though a couple cross over character's, this is a stand alone. (ljb)

Lady Silcox, Elaine Winters, over forty and at her daughter's for her wedding. Elaine is so happy for her. She had never felt Love and was sure she never would.

Lord Goswick was her first husband and gambled. Lord Silcox, Elaine's second husband was cold and unfeeling. He only married her for the heir to his estate. Then he wanted nothing to do with either of them. He was not a good father or husband.

Lord Gilbert Sterling, Earl of Errington, which was close to the Scottish border. Lord Gilbert had been alone for twelve years and he was ready for a wife. So was his son, Ethan. He and Jacob, Elaine's son, were good friends.

I really enjoyed this story. It was light-hearted, interesting, and the characters were exceptional.
It was fun watching the boys look for the passageways. Elaine's interaction with Gilbert was so very sweet. I very much appreciate you letting me have this ARC. It was very enjoyable.

Disregarded and Adored is a heartwarming story about being older and wanting to find love. Lady Silcox and Lord Errington had both been married before, but neither of them knew passion in their marriages. Elaine thought she was happy now that she was free and safe for the first time in her life, but after watching the love between her daughter, Juliet, and Henri on their wedding day she realized she knew love but had never been in love. With the interference of their two boys, Ethan and Jake, and their mischievous matchmaking, Elaine and Gilbert found that love can happen at any age as long as your heart is open to it. There were also some secrets that threatened their relationship that had to be dealt with before they were free to open their hearts to trust and love. I enjoyed reading about the boys’ adventures with the secret passageways. I loved how everything came together in the Epilogue as Christmas was celebrated.

5 STARS, HISTORICAL ROMANCE DRAMA

5 STARS shines brightly on this romantic well written story about a Lady that had been married twice & widowed the same amount with a daughter who is just getting married at the beginning of this story & A rambunctious 12 year old son who in some ways was wiser than his age & an Earl, a widower since his 12 year old son had been born, also rambunctious. Amazingly these 2 boys knew each other in school & were best friends plus their parents had met & wouldn't you know it the Earl really fell for her & the boys suspected it.
Now, these 2 nearing 50 years of age parents had never been in love with anyone before & it's refreshing to follow how they get some things right & wait to long it seems on others. This story is a treat to read & enjoy. For love & parenthood of tweenage children.

Elaine Winters, Viscountess Silcox was married twice, twice widowed, and never been in love. Her daughter has just gotten married and Elaine wished she had the love she sees in their eyes. Gilbert Stirling, Earl of Errington, lost his wife in childbirth and is ready to marry again. He has one lady in particular but she has no idea he has feelings for her. Between their two sons, who became best friends at school, they have secretly invited Elaine and her son to Gilbert’s house for a house party with the request coming from Gilbert. This is a great chance for them to get to know each other and show their feelings as these two boys are certainly trying their hardest at matchmaking.
