Reluctant Hearts #3.5

Our Love Unhinged

Rate this book
Despite everything she thought she knew, Winter fell in love, and she fell hard. Living with the security of Cade's unconditional devotion for the past two years has been a welcome reprieve from the decades of loneliness that came before him. So when he pops the question, she says yes. Of course she does. But two years isn't long in the grand scheme of things, and certainly not enough time to erase the memories of the past. Sometimes, even the greatest love can't silence fears. Our Love Unhinged is the final novella in the Reluctant Hearts series, and is best enjoyed after reading books 1-3 in the series.

Award-winning USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brighton Walsh spent nearly a decade as a professional photographer before taking her storytelling in a different direction and reconnecting with her first love: writing. When she’s not lost in her own made up worlds, she’s probably either reading or shopping—maybe even both at once. She lives in the Midwest with her real life hero of a husband, her two kids—both taller than her—and her dog who thinks she’s a queen. Her boy-filled house is the setting for dirty socks galore, frequent dance parties (okay, so it's mostly her, by herself, while her children look on in horror), and more laughter than she thought possible. I was so excited to learn that there was a surprise novella. After getting that tease of a wedding at the end of Paige, I was dying to know who it was.

And while I really wanted it to be Paige {she's my favorite}, it's absolutely perfect that it's Winter and Cade. It's obvious that Tessa and Jason and Paige and Adam will be getting married. With Winter's story, she was a bit of a wild card. Not that she wouldn't have a HEA, {it is a story from Bri after all}, but maybe she'd be perfectly content without the ring.

This whole novella is just fantastic. We get a perfect for them proposal, and for lack of a better word, the aftermath. I'm thrilled we got to see the rest of the group and there are a few delightful surprises that I didn't see coming.

Even though I could read these characters forever, Brighton gave us a fantastic wrap up.

**Huge thanks to Brighton for providing an arc because she's awesome**

Winter and Cade are my least favorite couple in this series, but omg this novella was pure perfection. Cade was romantic, thoughtful and so utterly swoony. Watching him be there for Winter and loving her with every fiber of his being turned me into a puddle of goo! It was great to see how the other couples of the series have evolved together too. This is one cast I'm going to miss a ton, but will no doubt revisit through re-reads. Brighton Walsh couldn't have wrapped up this novella any better.

I'm going to keep my review of Our Love Unhinged super short and sweet. It was amazing. Absolute perfection. If you're a fan of the Reluctant Hearts series, you'll absolutely want to read this book. (If you haven't already by the time you see this review.) If you've not yet read this series, stop everything and get on that immediately. Seriously.

This book was practically made of feels. I felt them all, too. I was crying and swooning all over the place. I still love Winter and Cade so very much. It was wonderful to watch them get their happily ever after because they both deserved it. I also loved getting more from Tessa and Jase (!!!!!!) and Paige and Adam, too. Our Love Unhinged was a super quick read and it was swoony and sexy AF – an absolute must read. I'm so glad Brighton chose to write this novella and, even though I'm sad this series I loved so very much is over, I couldn't be happier with how it all wrapped up.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

FAVORITE QUOTES
I'm willing to bleed myself dry for him, too. I'm willing to give him all of me—every crazy, screwed up piece—because we work. What we have together now is perfect. And I don't ever want it to change.

I have the perfect ring and the perfect girl. Now I just need the perfect proposal.

"Do you want to be with me for the rest of your life?
"Of course. Of course."
"Then we'll figure everything else out as we go."

There's only so much heartbreak a person should be expected to suffer in a lifetime. I'm just not sure I could survive the aftermath of being left again.

No fear. No questioning. No uncertainty. Just love.

Brighton Walsh returns to the Reluctant Hearts series with Our Love Unhinged, a beautifully written and emotionally powerful novella that wraps up the series with all of the warm and fuzzy feelings I’ve come to adore from this author and then some. Brighton’s words are as enchanting as ever, allowing me to lose myself all over again in the fantastic family of characters she has created with this series. I loved being able to glimpse the lives of these unforgettable personalities further in the future, sharing in their hard-won love and reveling in the promise of the happily ever afters yet to come.

In true Brighton Walsh style, Our Love Unhinged doesn’t pull any punches and this Happily Ever After is not without its battles. For fans of the series, this novella will remind you exactly why you fell in love with Cade and Winter to begin with. As their relationship changes, old insecurities and fears rise to the surface, causing all of the pain and emotional growth they’ve already been through to move through me once again. This novella made me feel raw and vulnerable, perfectly capturing the tone of the story and bringing every incredible moment of Cade and Winter’s journey back to me in a rush of heartache and unrelenting hope.

Cade is still book boyfriend perfection. His patience, understanding, and unconditional love is utterly swoon-worthy and I find myself lost to him the moment he opens his mouth. So many feels! A part of me relates to Winter in unexpected ways and this novella rekindled that connection instantly, making it easy to once again root for her. One of the things I love most about Brighton Walsh’s writing is her ability to transform words into poignant prose and palpable human emotions. Her writing is exquisite, effortlessly delivering the joy, self-doubt, and humor of this story and bringing Cade, Winter, and the rest of the crew to life. Our Love Unhinged was the perfectly imperfect happily ever after for these two beloved characters.

If you’re a contemporary romance fan and you haven’t read Brighton Walsh’s Reluctant Hearts series, then we can’t be friends…

…OK, I won’t really go that far, but seriously, Brighton and her words are phenomenal and naturally bring out my need to use hyperbole.

Over the course of three books in the series ('Caged in Winter', 'Tessa Ever After', 'Paige in Progress') we get to know a group of six friends and watch three couples fall in love and build lives together.

At the end of 'Paige in Progress', Paige and Adam are in the wedding party for two of their best friends… but who?

Earlier this month, We So Nerdy was one of 12 blogs that helped reveal Brighton’s surprise book release for 'Our Love Unhinged'!

It turns out the mystery couple is Cade and Winter, and the novella takes us back several months to explore the journey that leads us to the matrimonial HEA.

When we first meet Winter, she is guarded and deeply suspicious of Cade’s interest. But over time, she falls in love with his kind persistence and generous spirit. As for Cade, the moment he meets Winter, he’s head-over-heels for her and determined to protect her, even from herself.

With two years under their belt, Cade and Winter decide they want to make things official by walking down the aisle. However, Winter has a big reservation. Old feelings of inadequacy resurge… if she couldn’t compel her own mother to stay with her, what hope does she have of keeping Cade for the rest of her life?

In 'Our Love Unhinged', over the course of five months we watch Winter and Cade weather this storm together and build the foundation for their life, one that works perfectly for them.

OMG this was such a cute novella!! I'm so happy Brighton ended the series on this because it was wonderful. Cade and Winter weren't my favorite couple, but I still loved this. I love the sexy and sweet Cade and brave, beautiful Winter. She had a lot more reservations about getting married, but they made sense given her past and her insecurities. I loved seeing her grow more into her own and put those insecurities (mostly) behind her to marry the love of her life. I loved the ending to their story! And I of course loved the cameos with Tessa, Jase, Haley, Paige, and Adam. Especially Jase as he's my fave of the guys ;) IT WAS A LITTLE BITTERSWEET AS WELL BC I LOVE THEM SO MUCH AND THIS IS THIS SERIES IS DONE. *cries* I'm so glad Our Love Unhinged happened. I don't always care for novellas, but I absolutely needed more of these characters.

More Reviews Here: Readers Live A Thousand Lives

This was such a good novella. I absolutely LOVE Cade and Winter and I loved getting to see into their happily ever after. I love them together and I loved seeing them happy and seeing how far they have come. This book is just good for the feels. It made my heart so happy. I also loved seeing Jason and Tessa and Paige and Adam again. I just love this group and I especially love Jason. That boy is my favorite of them all and he cracked me up. Our Love Unhinged is a quick and fun read and if you’re a fan of this series you gotta read it. And if you haven’t read this series you need to fix that.

This was a sweet read, but WAY too short to be separate and/ or not free. I do like Cade and Winter even though they both border on having so many character flaws/ baggage that they are almost unlikeable... BUT, i like characters that are real, so I enjoyed reading about these two, as I think their personality quirks (mostly their insecurities and worries) are very legitimate after what they have each experienced. That being said, i wanted more growth from Winter earlier. I felt like after two years, poor Cade shouldn’t still have to be walking on eggshells All The Time. Every time he starts to feel happy or relaxed, or to have fun At All, she ruins it, and he has to go back to being miserable, worried and reassuring all over again. I thought he deserved better than that, and as I picture this going on for them as a couple, and I find myself wishing that he could have fallen in love with someone who would let him be happy. Like, if my son brought her home as his fiancee, I would feel privately sad for him and their future, because she is that girl who is always going to make everything about HER and will constantly want to make everyone around her miserable and groveling in order to bolster her self esteem. Even if she has Mommy Issues (and I get that. I have abandonment issues myself), I would have liked to see her working through them while not making poor Cade and everyone else miserable all the time.

Good book!

Wow Paige has had a rough life, until Cade walks in. Even though their meeting each other didn't go so well, Cade was persistent. Good book if you are looking for another read!

Great read.

I loved this little insight to Winter and Cafe's future. The knowledge that a happily ever after still has doubts and complications after the happy ending but it can all be worked out with communication. Loved it.

great novella

Read the rest of the books first! To me this was an amazing bonus epilogue to the first book. I loved these two already and this was a great ending to the series. I loved how it pulled the series together.

A cute novella to close the series, but I don’t think it actually added much for me overall. Perhaps it is because I had moved forward from Winter and Cade, and had already applied the HEA stamp to them in my mind. I’m glad Winter didn’t run this time.

It was okay but nothing amazing. The other books in this series were absolutely way better. This one seemed a little dry lacking something …

Quick Thoughts and Rating: 5 shining stars! The truth of the matter is that I will never be ready to say goodbye to this cast of characters, but Walsh couldn't have given them a more perfect farewell if she tried. This was everything I wanted a conclusion of this series to be and so much more than I ever thought to ask for in such a short novella. Amazing, as always!

Brighton wraps her writing and characters in heart and tender vulnerability with a bonus of sizzling sexiness in this final installment of the Reluctant Heart series. It's definitely one you don't want to miss out on.

♥  Review: This review will be short and sweet just like this book. Once again, Walsh has managed to pack so much into such a tiny number of pages. The gang is all back together again in this final installment where one couple has the ultimate happy ever after moment, but we get a very satisfying conclusion to the direction our other couples are headed in. In this novella, I laughed, I cried, and I clutched my chest in moments because of how effortlessly the author will tug at your heartstrings. In this poignant glimpse in those all-important moments of saying yes to a proposal to walking down the aisle and saying "I do!" and all those minutes in-between, Brighton touched my heart one final time with these characters. I was amazed at how much this group has grown as the series developed and while saying goodbye to them will always feel a touch bittersweet, Walsh couldn't have made it any better of a sendoff than she did. Plus, that epilogue totally gave me all the feels and it was wonderful to see her character come full circle.

♥  Teaser Quote: I highlighted so much, but I finally settled on this.
I don't know how I got lucky enough to call this man mine, but I did. Somehow, despite my childhood and all the baggage that comes along with it, I did. And I'm done questioning it. I'm done living my life perched on the cliff of a bunch of what ifs. I'm ready to start the rest of our lives together, right now. No fear. No questioning. No uncertainty.
    Just love.

♥ Rec It? Without a doubt, yes! In fact, I recommend this whole companion series from start to finish. This series is by far my favorite cast of any of the New Adult genre, and potentially my favorite of all time. I've been in love with them, wept with them, struggled with them (ahem...got a little hot and bothered with them...) as their relationships and friendships have continued to grow and evolve throughout the whole series.

But more than that–and pardon me because I'm about to get more than a little sappy here–it's because of this series that I've found a mentor, a cheap therapist, and new lifelong bestie that's better than I ever could have hoped to find. This all started with two words from me to her that grew into what became Cade and Winter's story and now it's grown into hundreds of thousands of texts, new plot bunnies, conversations over BBQ and cupcakes, and loads of shared memories. I'll always love these characters for who they are and the stories they told, obviously, but they'll always hold a special place in my heart because they gave me the author as a friend. (I'm not a blubbering mess right now, you are.)
