After a pretty cool epilogue to the previous volume The Clone Saga the the tenth anniversary of Miles Morales Spider-Man is celebrated with a good old down-to-earth street story that starts of on a date that is interrupted by the Taskmaster. Picking up where they left off before the awful The Clone Saga, it's back to old-school / nu-school Spidey with a street level adventure that pushes Miles to his physical limits. I really liked Carmen Carnero's art as much as I disliked Chris Allen's. Overall back to Ahmed's best, this is yet another 8 out of 12, Four Star volume for me.

Horrible suit aside, this is still a pretty fun Spider-Man run with some great art and some fun 10th Anniversary backups. I think the mainline Peter Spidey book has been hot garbage for years now, so it’s nice to read a decent mainline Spidey book. It’s not great or anything, but at least it’s not outright awful or boring.

Miles focuses on his relationships with Ganke, Shift (his clone brother), and Starling. He goes on a date with Starling when Taskmaster attacks the two of them. There's also a couple of 10th anniversary backup stories. The biggest takeaway is Miles gets a new suit that looks like garbage. Anyone that's ever worn baggy clothing knows you aren't going to be able to fight in a sweatshirt that's 12 sizes too big for you. Also, that mouth collar thing would always fall down. That type of thing never stays in place, especially if you are webbing through New York City.

Another great entry. Here we see how he got his new suit. Nice call back to earlier issues. Some nice heart felt moments also as Miles does some local good in the neighborhood. Then his date with Starling gets interrupted by someone trying to kidnap her. A lot of nice action in those last two issues. Looking forward to the next volume.

Miles continues his adventure but this time he has a brand new suit.

But this brand new suit is kind of trash. I like the color scheme and mask but the suit itself? Wack. It seems extremely impractical for superheroing. Least in my opinion.

Anyway the story themselves remain fun and exciting. Miles getting closer to his lady friend is really cute. Him helping his "new" brother clone. I also really enjoyed him and Ganke on good terms again, and having good old taskmaster come in and be a asshole is always fun. Excited to see where we go for this series, always a pleasure to read.

I feel like this might be another one of those trades that's been solicited as having the wrong stuff in it - I think it'll include issue 32 too, since that's the second half of the story that starts in #31, but I've been wrong before since Marvel make no sense most of the time. We'll operate under the assumption that they're not total idiots though.

This volume's mostly fallout from the Clone Saga stuff in the previous volume, as well as including an anniversary issue and the latest Miles Morales annual.

Issue 30, the anniversary tale, introduces Miles' new suit after the Clone Saga totalled his original one. It took a sec to grow on me, but I do genuinely like it now - it gives me Scarlet Spider vibes, which is always a good thing. Series artist Carmen Carnero draws the lead story here. There's also a back-up by the Into The Spider-Verse writers, which is okay, but nowhere near as special as you'd hope.

The two-parter involving Starling and Taskmaster is decent, but reads very quickly since like 80% of the two issues are fight scenes. Well drawn fight scenes, don't get me wrong (thank you Christopher Allen), but still a little light on the actual drama. And the annual, which is an Infinite Destinies tie-in, brings Miles together with Kamala's friend and fellow superhero Amulet for a decent little tale.

This volume doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it's as solid as everything before it without a doubt.

Can't believe it's been ten years.

English/Spanish review:

This is getting better and better, even if Marvel is keeping Miles on a not so big Events style I'm glad about ir since they've never been great with him. Vol's packed with action and sweet/down to earth moments and that felt good.
Starling date + Taskmaster fight was great. Taskmaster's usually treated like an idiot and I mean,he's a really powerful foe, glad about his portrayal here.

My opinion on the suit? Not gonna lie,it's inferior to the original and hey,Kaine wants his suit back. But it's starting to grow on me,maybe I'm not in love with it (and my fave Spider suit is Kaine's) because the baggy style it's strange. And the art did not help much showing it. It needs a more clear splash page where we can see it better.

"Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Vol. 6: All Eyes On Me" is a pretty good read. It starts off with some low-stakes stories. I don't mind that though because it shows the essence of Spider-Man/Miles as a neighborhood superhero. I'm sure we've all heard the phrase "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" and it is exemplified here. We see how he not only protects Brooklyn, but also cares deeply for the people and the positive impact that he has. It was a wonderful read.

I also like how it explored Miles dealing with all that has been happening and trying to process the stressful events in his life - as well as his efforts to help Shift. Plus, I enjoyed seeing the date between Tiana/Starling and Miles/Spider-Man. While their relationship was written rushed in the last book, I like their bond and they have good chemistry together.

The main story comes afterwards. It involves Taskmaster fighting them both. Taskmaster is a major challenge for them both, especially in how he can copy and adapt to superpowers. There was a lot of mystery as to why he was going after them and who his client is. I like how the tension and stakes remained high in that story. There was a great twist at the end too, though it did seem a bit repetitive of some other storylines. Nonetheless, I did like how the main story also showed how much he cares for and connects with the people of Brooklyn and how much they love and support him also.

With that said, the ending of the book appears to be connected to another crossover. I'm not sure how the next book in this series will go, but the issues with crossovers is how information can get lost in between books (or a storyline will resolve in a different book of a different series). Crossovers can be fun, but they can be challenging when one (like myself) is catching up via trades like this book.

Still, I enjoyed this book a lot. The pacing was fast but consistent. The stories were good and so was the focus on Miles' connection with Brooklyn. The artwork was good too.

I may have mentioned before my fascination with the unexciting blurbs on Marvel trades. Here, for instance, the front cover proudly proclaims: "It's a comic that reminds us Miles Morales is a feel-good hero that's grounded and relatable." A sentence that doesn't quite flow, stating basic fact rather than any particular enthusiasm? Sold! I suppose at least it's from AIPT, of which I am vaguely aware, whereas half the time they're from some site you've never heard of into the bargain. All of which said, this one is not wrong. After lots of big, borderline event stories in recent volumes, this is Miles getting back on his feet, marking the character's tenth anniversary with a new outfit, engaging in classic, fun adventures, from finding a lost dog to a tangle with Taskmaster. Who here seems able to copy superpowers and gadgets as well as moves, which definitely isn't right; there's also a mobile which goes from too dead to text before a fight, to fine for video calls right after, without any sign of being plugged in during. But these editing boo-boos aside, it's an enjoyable change of pace after too long with both Spider-Men caught up in grinding epics.

Didn’t realize until after reading this that the collection was celebrating 10 years of Miles. Which makes sense as to why there were the bonus comics with Lord & Miller writing.

This was kind of back to the basics after the Clone Saga. A lot of Miles just doing his Spidey thing around Brooklyn and I like the continued use of journal entries as a narrative tool for the inner thoughts of the characters (namely, Miles and Tiana). The art by Christopher Allen was great and some of my favorite in recent memory. There was good development on Tiana and Miles’ relationship, with it already being tested after Taskmaster kidnaps her for a client. But, kinda ended too easily with Taskmaster just saying, oh, well, times up. I didn’t get you to the client on time. Bye
Even so, it concluded with an interesting cliffhanger, with Miles being served papers that he can no longer use the name and likeness of Spider-Man...

Collects Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2018) issues #29-32

This story comes in the wake of Miles' "Clone Saga," and the collection features the debut of his new costume. There is solid story telling here, but I wonder if this collection features stories that are mostly being used to set up whatever comes next.

With a little bit of wrap up on Miles' Clone Saga story, this collection doesn't do much but showcase his new outfit. The old duds got torn to hell and he calls in a favor for a new look. They also cram in a anniversary issue with a few faces familiar with Miles in various forms of media.

Costume real talk? I think I get what they're trying to do with his mask and balaclava, but it doesn't quite flow, IMHO. The rest just looks like casual Spidey gear to wear on the basketball court or at the gym.

Bonus: Taskmaster can beat Spidey-sense by using his photo mimetic ability? Since when? I guess anything is possible in comics.

After the intensity of the previous volume, which did the impossible that is successfully giving Miles Morales his own Clone Saga, this volume takes a bit of a breather. The first issue features the eponymous Spidey looking back on the recent events that have taken a toll on Miles, from losing his uncle and his baby sister getting kidnapped by evil clones – except for Shift, he’s good now – whilst balancing his time at Brooklyn Visions Academy. Saladin Ahmed takes the classic Spider-Man dilemma that we all know, which is our hero balancing the two lives, but feels unique to Miles as he continuously writes his journal that serves an inner monologue.

Advised by his teacher, who tells him to write his assigned essay about how those events have shaped him, Miles also decides it’s time for a change as his costume has been shredded and seeks the help of aspiring fashion designer Kenneth Kingston, he receives a brand-new costume. Very different aesthetic from his original get-up as the new suit feels more casual with the sweater that has a collar that covers the mouth, whilst maintaining his red-black motif. I'm liking the suit so far as the two artists Christopher Allen and Carmen Carnero create some nice visuals with it, though I doubt it’s going to last long and we’ll get Miles’ classic suit back.

The rest of the volume shows Miles going on a date with Tiana AKA Starling in their costumed personas, only to be targeted by Taskmaster. As someone who has always had a soft spot towards Taskmaster (despite his lacklustre appearance in last year’s Black Widow movie), he serves a decent foe for both the two lovebirds, even if the conflict has a bit of an anti-climax when Taskmaster bows out and we never find out who hired him. Instead, the ending is a nice set-up for what could be happening to Miles during the current Beyond era that is occurring in The Amazing Spider-Man.

Going back to the artists, my initial thoughts towards Allen’s art was not great as all his characters look older than they should, particularly the students. His Miles actually looks better when he’s donning the mask and throughout the volume, Allen improves his work with masked characters battling each other. Only doing one third of issue #30, Carmen Carnero is the better artist here as her work is cleaner and has a great grasp into superhero storytelling that feels more slice-of-life, where Miles can go from fighting a guy in a big robot suit to finding a missing dog for twins.

As last year marked the tenth anniversary of Miles Morales, the aforementioned issue #30 celebrates the positivity of the character with two backups. One of which is written by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Kemp Powers, Jeff Loveness, and drawn by Sara Pichelli, and it’s about Miles’ connection with New York. Given this is from some of the minds behind the cinematic masterpiece Into the Spider-Verse, it is not only hilarious as one would expect from Lord and Miller, but it’s also incredibly touching as it carries the central message from the movie, which is that anyone can wear the mask and be Spider-Man in their own way.

This theme is also carried over in the second backup, written by Cody Ziglar and drawn by Anthony Piper, in which an older Miles confronts a trio of burglars, only to be chatting with one of them, who was initially reluctant about doing the burglary. We all know that “with great power, comes great responsibility”, but Miles puts his own spin on that message and it’s wonderful. As much as Peter Parker will always be my Spider-Man, but Miles is a very strong contender of overtaking that position as Saladin Ahmed continues to thrive with his current run.

The middling trend on the series continues - albiet in a slightly better direction with this installment. This is just shy of a 4* rating for me, it's better but not quite all that great yet.

After the snooze-fest that was the Clone Wars, we get to see something more fun and interesting for sure with these issues/this volume which has to juggle a tough start as Issue #29 is all about the aftermath of the aforementioned mini-event story arc while also looking forward as the publisher and the lineup of creators celebrate a milestone for the character, i.e, the 10th year since he swung onto the comic page and changed the wall-crawling franchise like no other.

I will state however, that the one complaint I have not had with this series and continues to be a strong point is the artwork. Every single artist, both the regular and the guest, bring their skills to the front and do an admirable job. The action panels in particular are full of Spidey-energy and flow and the quieter moments reflect well too. This works wonderfully until we get to the newly redesigned costume which... really didn't work for me. I guess I get what they are going for and it's "youthful" and creative and they're going for a more street-wear/casual something or other - and it's fun looking but also a bit silly? And honestly it seems the strangest kind of impractical for a street-level superhero for whom acrobatics, agility and maintaining his secret identity is key. But hey, it's not such a major issue that I would not read the comic, it's a design choice I don't care for and as a fan of the character, am hoping is relatively short-lived if possible; redesign again by all means to yet another new look, but that's just my opinion.

The dour start is not as bad as one would have thought given the ending of the last series + all that Miles has been through til now, it's more introspective and pondering for our troubled hero.
That said, he pushes through, as Spider-Men do and keeps a forward perspective which is another hallmark of the heroes of this franchise. We get to move on from the dwelling pretty quick and then focus on the future which leads up to a nice moment where a young non-binary kid who Miles was a hero to makes another cameo alongside their mother who is learning about her childs new life and choices and in a nice touch, the kid is now studying fashion and is the designer of the new look. This is quickly followed by a new adventure kicking off as Miles and Starling are (finally) connecting and spending time after life kept them stretched and unable to make time for being a couple, only to be unceremoniously interrupted by a truly dangerous foe - Taskmaster! But who is he after? And why? Though most of the adventure is over and done with, the real challenge will come in the volume(s) to follow as Miles will try and trace who paid Tasky to attack and for what nefarious purpose! PLUS we get the return of Shift, arguably the only good thing to come out of the Clone Saga and a potential heartbreak for readers just waiting to happen - I can almost feel Ahmed telegraphing that; I'd be happy to be wrong but only time will tell!

All in all, this is a bit of an up-swing for the series that had started very strong but seen a bit of a dip (in my humble opinion) in the past two volumes and my interest had been flagging. It still looks as good as ever in the art department (though I maintain, I don't care for the new costume), the writing is better and at least for now, I'll keep reading.

This was the first ever Miles Morales comic my son and I read together back in April. I'd heard it was an okay jumping-on point, and...it kind of is. It's not perfect. You're best served jumping on with Ahmed's Volume 1, but this is sort ofa buffer volume between the clones and what's next for Miles, which is this Beyond Corporation (which I was pretty sure, even before reading Volume 7, had something to do with The Assessor).

It's a fun sort of denouement from the Clone stuff and a good way to kick back into the swing (ha) of a Miles story. I wonder if we'll ever get a resolution to who wanted to kidnap Starling and why, though I don't know that I care too much.

The new Miles costume is...not as good as his OG. It's not really TERRIBLE in the general sort of scheme, but the bagginess is a pretty shabby look, honestly.

Okay, so we're at a bit of a reset point after the Miles Morales version of a clone saga and it kicked off with a new costume for this particular Spider-Man. I appreciated the premise of the new look (wanting to distance himself from the old look because of the clone experience) but it felt a little throway since one moment he has the fabric and the next he's swinging.

The initial plot for this book is weird with Taskmaster (seemingly) randomly involved in things and then we're just left with questions as to what that was about. It's not too different from the initial run-ins with the Assessor in Ahmed's run and I don't know if we'll get a decent payoff.

Things end with a connection to the odd Beyond event that took over the main Amazing Spider-Man book, which also left me with mixed feelings.

Lets off the drama a bit, which was probably a good call after Miles's clone saga. There's a new costume for Miles, which I actually really like. It's different, but it also feels like something that a teenager would pick, and it makes a nice echo of the Scarlet Spider suit. One of the issues is basically Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which almost always works for me, and there's a fun two parter with Starling and Taskmaster. There's nothing ground-breaking in this volume, but I don't need that in every book. I had fun reading it, and I still really like how Ahmed writes Miles.

Very short Volume where most of it is fighting between Miles, Starling and Taskmaster. He was hired by someone to deliver Starling, but their fight makes him miss his "very specific" deadline, so he lets her go. In addition, Miles has a new suit made for him and Beyond shows up at the end to claim "copyright" against Miles.
Overall, a very quick Volume, which makes it feel like a bridge between where we left off with the Clones from last Volume, and whatever is coming next.
Recommend, but only because Miles getting his new suit is essential to the story. Up to you.

This was fun! And we’re starting an arc around Tiana that I’m intrigued to see where it goes. The new suit is super cool and I love seeing the designer, they are absolutely adorable and I hope we see them more often.

I think this would be a hit with kids closer to Miles’s age in this - young high school? Teens. The themes are pointed more towards them and, while I still like it, it won’t be for everyone. It’s not as gritty as some of my other favorites, though still intense.

Weird to be all caught up on some runs for once, haven’t been on top of current stuff for a long time!

Cool artstyle and I LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED the little bonus with ITSV Miles, made me lose my MIIIIIND. The behind the scenes concept art is also greatly appreciated. I <3 comic book artists.
