The following review is for: Curbing Celine by Karen Nappa - 🌟🌟🌟🌟 - Rekindling the Flame

A slightly suspenseful quick read that has Detective Brock Green tracking a serial killer while trying to keep his marriage going. I like this empty nester couple. We meet them as Brock begins to understand the trouble building in his relationship with Celine.

When jealousy rears its head, I like the very realistic reaction and, even more so, the response after they find a good use for the kitchen table. It's sweet, tender, arousing, and a bit painful with some unexpected feelings that they have to work out together and individually.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

That’s What She Shed by Melonie Johnson 4 Stars
Forty-something divorcee Tasha Peterson decides to turn her ex’s man cave into a room of her own, whilst at the DIY store, trying to find paint she meets Nate Younger & sparks fly.
Oh this was such a fun read with lots of double entendres & chemistry that is electric. For such a quick read the characters are well portrayed & have depth. I loved both Tasha & Nate who are both ready to move on but still have some insecurities. I also really liked Tasha's three friends & hope they may have their stories
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I have the anthology on pre-order, but I was able to read an early copy of Melonie Johnson's contribution:

That's What She Shed by Melonie Johnson made me snort-laugh while reading. A lot. With an "older" hero and heroine (for pete's sake, they're in their late 40s/he might be early 50s?--but if you read romance, you know that 20s, *maybe* 30s--if you're lucky--tend to be the norm), there was just so much in this story that I found 100% relatable! The heroine, whose POV we get here, is starting over after her husband-of-twenty-five-years' mid-life crisis prompted a divorce. An encounter in the paint aisle with a hunky contractor helps her to get her flirt on again, until (she thinks) it ends badly and with some embarrassment, on her part. But fate--and Tasha's often-inappropriate friends, as well as Tash's home improvement project--bring the two of them together again for a story that had me fanning myself almost as much as I LOLed. Though I was totally happy with the HEA here, I still didn't want to see these characters go!

That’s What She Shed by Melonie Johnson is the novella I read from this collection and enjoyed every moment. A mature second relationship story, with fun, laugh out loud, romance. This group of stories is worth the cost just for this one novella. Excellent fun read.

Love and all that other good stuff definitely doesn’t have an age limit and it’s so great to see authors embracing older characters and writing their romance stories for us!

One of those stories is Secrets Under the Covers by Brenda Margriet. I’ve been a fan of this author for quite some time now and her “seasoned romances” is just one reason why!

Helen and Nathan have been neighbours and friends for years, but when Helen faces a possibly life changing event, she turns to Nathan for much more than friendship. With uncertain futures for both of them and a new relationship that could go one way or the other, they need to decide which direction to take.

When love finds you a second time, not giving up despite the circumstances is worth all the risks!

The perfect short, sweet and steamy read.

That's what she said by Melonie Johnson was just the novella I needed to read right now!

I love how the main characters are grown women, life doesn't end when you turn 30 or 40 or 50! Life is full of surprises, humor, love, friendship and lust.
I love the humor and banter between this group of friends and I laughed so much I'm pretty sure my kids thought I was going crazy there for a while.

5 stars from me

I read "One More Night" by Judy Kentrus in this later in life anthology.

It was a sweet/clean romantic suspense story of reunited friends to lovers. I liked that not all secrets were shared right away which gave nice suspense and kept you reading. There were also historical tidbits of the area thrown in there for those readers that like facts.

Iris is the female main character who is in the witness protection program but sneaks out from under the nose of her handler to get "One More Night" with her best friend from high school - who she has always had feelings for. Leif goes to his high school reunion in the hopes of getting some answers. Why had his best friend blown him off? Why did she lose touch? He was determined to find her again and not lose her this time!

I recommend this read if you are looking for a middle age couple with a lot of life and love left to give. Very cute!

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Curbing Celine by Karen Nappa is part of A Season for Love, and what a story it is!
Short, sweet and with a splash of danger,it was a great story that i really enjoyed.
Thank you Karen, for showing me,yet again, that BDSM is something for people over 50 too.

Brock has his hands full. Not only is there a serial killer on the loose, but his sweet Celine is struggling with something.
He can see it,but finding out what, and helping her deal,thát’s a different story….
Coming home to her being pressed against the sink with a young man pressed against her back makes him see red.
Finding out it’s the neighbor’s son Kevin, helping her treat a burn on her arm cools his temper….a little.
Until Celine asks him if he thought she’d cheat on him.
And admit her true feelings in her next breath.
Thát right there deserves a spanking, and he’s quick to deliver.

Celine feels lost. Ever since their youngest,Shannon, moved out to live in New York, she’s lost her purpose.
No children at home to take care of,and Brock’s attention more on his job as a detective of the Seattle policeforce, what’s her job now?
Cleaning and cooking? Anyone can do that!
And it’s not like she’s attractive anymore….even if she likes the sight of the young man currently working in their neighbor’s garden,it’s not like he’s going to be interested in a boring old housewife.

Brock’s punishment does something to Celine, and she likes it.
Now to convince him she did,and that she wants more….
If only the police could catch that killer,so they had time to explore!
But then danger knocks on their door….

This short story shows that an empty nest is very hard to deal with.
Especially when you and your partner seem to drift apart.
The way Brock and Celine found eachother again, and rekindled their love, was beautiful to watch.
Knowing the way their daughter Kim looked at Kevin makes me hope for a sequel…..?

Authority Issues by Phoebe Alexander is such a hot little book that I couldn’t put down! Yes it hit on a slightly difficult topic that so many have had to deal with but it didn’t make me want to put the book down, it made me want to keep reading to see how the heroine dealt with it. I was happy to see how everything turned out and what a Happy Ever After!

Review of Secrets Under the Covers, one of the stories included in A Season for Love anthology:

So great that more romance authors are writing stories where the main characters are of a “mature” age! Just because someone is over 50 (or 60 or…you get the idea!), they can still be looking for that right One. In fact, a lot of older adults have maybe lost their spouses, the children are raised, their careers are winding down, etc. They have more time for finding someone special…or maybe that someone special is right next door!

Such is the case with Nathan and Helen. Helen is a retired art teacher (now working at a tattoo shop) whose husband passed away 3 years ago. Her longtime neighbor, Nathan, has been widowed for 5 years. Their families have been “neighbor” friends for some time but Helen has seen more of Nathan since her husband passed as they’re members of the same book club.

When Helen receives some disturbing news, she turns to Nathan, at first out of a need to reaffirm herself but her reasons change. And for Nathan, he’s been attracted to Helen for some time but only until she makes an overture does he respond in kind.

But these are two individuals with a lot more responsibilities than many younger lovers. And while some uncertainties lie ahead in some areas of Helen’s life (being vague to avoid spoilers!), and Nathan has important decisions he too must make, can they explore the possibilities of being together?

A heartwarming story with wonderful characters that feel so real, they could be your friends!

Love at Second and 49th Debra Elise
Patrice's daughter and Kade's son are married and expecting a baby, but Patrice doesn't feel like a grandma, she's not old enough, and to complicate the issue she has feelings for Kade. They've been friends for years, her husband, who she'd fallen out of love with, died, and his wife became his ex. Neither have done anything to change the status quo, in case the other doesn't feel the same, neither wants to endanger their friend status.
I love the way they try to hide what's happening from their children. It's great to read a book about more mature lovers.

Secrets Under The Covers (Brenda Margriet)

A heart-warming story of neighbours who have both lost their partners to cancer. When Helen finds there is a possibility she has breast cancer she looks for affirmation of life in her neighbour Nathan's arms. It should have been a once only event but Nathan has other ideas. A wonderfull story about second chances and taking life one day at a time and just maybe it's ok to lean on someone for support.

Some Hearts Never Forget by Dawn Brower is part of the A Season for Love Collection this is the only story I have read so far. These seasoned romances include a story for everyone. All were endearing with laughter and emotion. Some sexier than others. My favorites were from Melonie Johnson, Mellanie Szereto, and Debra Elise. Well done to all the authors.

Review for "That's What She Shed" by Melonie Johnson:

Determined to reclaim her ex-husband's former man cave, recently divorced French teacher Tasha is attempting to pick a paint color at a big box home improvement store when she meets silver fox contractor Nate. At first, she thinks he's flirting with her and awkwardly attempts to flirt back, but when he offers his business card and mentions that he does free estimates, she's immediately embarrassed and convinced that she misunderstood his intentions. However, when Tasha's friends goad her into calling Nate and asking for his help a few weeks later, she may just find that her first impression was the right one.

Nate and Tasha were a ton of fun together, and I enjoyed their story tremendously. Tasha was endearingly awkward at times and managed to embarrass herself more than once, but I found her to be incredibly relatable. I appreciated how sweet and patient Nate was with her as she tried to figure out dating again after being married for so long. I also enjoyed Tasha's group of friends, who will hopefully return in future stories (along with updates on Tasha and Nate, of course).

I highly recommend "That's What She Shed" for all fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I look forward to whatever Melonie Johnson writes next!

I read the story Love at Second and 49th by Debra Elise. I was a volunteer ARC for this story for an honest review. Loved her story! Kade and Patrice have been friends since they lived next door to each other. Kade's son married Patrice's daughter and now have a baby on the way which will be the first grandchild for Kade and Patrice. They both had feelings for each other for years but were afraid to let the other know especially since their children are married. There is a slow burn until they finally get together as a friends with benefits for one month. They keep this a secret from everyone with the plan to walk away when the time is up. Their feelings for each other grow stronger as the time progresses. They hit a bump in the road to their relationship and then the truth comes out. This story has good characters and story line to it. I liked that it was set for my age group. This story made me believe that there could be a chance of finding love again in my late forties and not to give up hope.

This review is for Authority Issues by Phoebe Alexander. I rate this story 4.5 stars.

I really enjoyed this romance of Shea and Zara. Shea bullied Zara while in high school and is now in her English class at the College twenty-five years later. This adds a complication to Shea’s life as he really needs this class, and Zara has to figure out whether she can remain impartial when grading his paper. However, they are strongly attracted to each other but will have to figure out all the obstacles in their way if they want a HEA. I really liked both characters - even Shea as we learn about some of the reasons and also that we can see that he is truly remorseful and has changed. I found the epilogue was fun and a good way to end this book and tie up all the loose ends.

Some Hearts Never Forget - Dawn Brower
Quick and gratifying! Years ago, Zachary chose his life plan over his relationship with Marlee. Now they find themselves living in the same town. Zach wants a second chance, can Marlee give it to him? This is heartfelt with very natural dialogue. It draws you in and has you hoping for a reconciliation. It is short, sweet and oh so satisfying!

This is a collection of stories and I'm rating the one titled Love at Second and 49th by Debra Elise. I did receive an early copy from the author and this is my honest, unbiased review. This engaging story features Patrice and Kade, both of whom are facing 50 and becoming grandparents for the first time. His son is married to her daughter. Patrice and Kade have been fighting an attraction for each other for years and ultimately decide to give in thinking that they could be friends with benefits. The connection between the two is palpable, but this story is heavy on the sex, so if that isn't your thing, skip this one. Still this is an engaging read and I love that the author acknowledges that "mature adults" do indeed have a sex life. There's also a sports aspect to this story, but it's not the main issue. I think this was a great read and definitely recommend it.

This is a great collection.
I especially enjoyed Authority Issues by Phoebe Alexander which is a quick, fun read. I liked the older characters and the role inversion, Zara is in a position of power, and her former bully is relegated to being her student and desperately needs to pass her class. The dynamic between the two of them is well thought out, and is done in shades of grey. The sexual harrassment theme in academia was an added bonus. Fun to read with a good steam factor, and beautifully written.

Dawn Brower's "Some Hearts Never Forget" is a part of A Season For Love anthology. Who doesn't love a Second Chance Romance? Zachary Foster messed up a decade ago, and while his career has been successful, his life surely hasn't. When a chance encounter brings his college sweetheart back into his world, Zach grabs hold of this opportunity with both hands not wasting a moment.

I have yet to read all the stories within these pages, but I read That’s What She Shed by Melonie Johnson. If the other stories in this book are half as good or even half as funny, you’ll enjoy them!

That’s What She Shed was a prefect title for this book and the main character being a teacher was beyond perfect. Working with teenagers really will have you thinking and saying “that’s what she said” to everything. It also makes you think extra carefully (not hard, seeee??!?!? Lol) about the phrasing you use yourself…. I can’t tell you how many times I have ended a sentence and inner me has panicked and made me add a few extra words and hope I pulled it off all nonchalant like!! And I get so frustrated at the creators of activities that make the answer to anything “69”.

The one liners and ability to work the humor in throughout was wonderfully done. Tasha is hysterical and there was a time or two I’d have spit out what I was drinking if I didn’t know better than to have something in my mouth while I try to focus *wink*. Nate is sexy and sweet and OMG….. I’m happily married but bumping into him in the hardware store would have me needing a bottle of water I am sure.

Exquisite little Rom Com. If you’re a teacher, especially HS, there is a little something extra for you in the group of school teacher friends that help Tasha keep from missing out on this banging opportunity…. The author, Melonie Johnson, is way better at this than me but she inspired me to try at least :P

I loved this quick novella. Celine and Brock are a married couple in their 50s. Celine is missing her children as they have all left the nest. Brock is a detective and he is involved with a serial killer and his murders and is kept very busy, too busy to spend much time at home. When he realizes that his wife had the opportunity to be unfaithful, he sees red and spanks her for the first time. Celine loves it and the attention. They continue as the serial killer is found and brought to justice.
I loved the interaction between Brock and Celine. I know that this is billed as a second chance at love, but they are really a married couple who have lost their way and find it again. They do have a great ending and I enjoyed the whole story!

This is a great collection of books but A Heart to Remember by Dawn Brower was amazing. We have Zach who was in love with Marlee but gave it all up for his career. Now he is back in his home town older, wiser, and with regrets. He wonders where his life is headed. Marlee works at the same hospital that just hired Zach. Realizing what he lost and that he still loves Marlee he will not stop at anything to keep him from winner her back. This is an older couple and I found it a little sad that Zach choose that path and in a way made Marlee take an equally sad path. This is a collection with more wonderful stories but I liked this one. This is a great collection and right now is the time to purchase the price is great.

Absolutely loved this collection of stories about more mature characters but especially the story from Phoebe Alexander - Authority Issues:

High school bully goes into his college class and sees the same woman he bullied 25 years ago is now his professor! She sets out for revenge but when the two of them get together - IT IS HOT!!!!

Such a satisfying story with more mature characters that you can really relate to!
