This rollicking rhyming picture book by Kersten Hamilton, What's Up, Pup? , features lively illustrations from Lili Chin, and explores all the ways that dogs express themselves, perfect for pup lovers of all ages.
Dogs are communicating with us all the time―even without words, they can tell us that they want to play, get scritches, or say I love you! From sniffers and ears to muzzles and rears, from tail wags to tongue flicks and everything in between…what is your pup trying to say? Maybe, if you watch very closely . . . you'll see your pup talk!
🎨 Beautifully illustrated with bright colors that are sure to appeal to children.
👩🏻🎨 Lili Chin’s attention to detail in her illustrations gives adults a real opportunity to ask children about the differences they see in the body language of the different dogs.
🎵 Words rhyme, but still accurately describe what the dogs are saying. Good balance between explaining dog body language cues to look for while still having fun with the rhymes.
📖 The last two pages give additional information about dog body language. Language here is still kid-friendly.
🎁 Dog lovers of all ages will appreciate this book as a gift.
What a cute and simple book to teach kiddos dog language! It tells in a fun and creative way what different body language and sounds mean from a dog. And in the back has more clarification.
Recommend for kiddos getting their first puppers. 4 stars because there were a few parts that didn't rhyme when the book seemed like it was trying to rhyme.
I read this book as an adult reader for the AR Diamond Book Award. I read this one with my daughter as well and she absolutely LOVED it. The rhyming story and cute illustrations are very simple. An overall cutesy read for your dog-loving child.
Any book that can teach dog communication in Seussical rhyme belongs on the shelf. Not to mention, the digital art is vibrant, crisp, and tasteful. Students will snicker while they learn that "stiff legs and hard stares say, Get outta here! Scat!" A must have.
