When feisty college student Yuri is attacked at a party, she’s saved by Toshiomi Oya, the underboss of a yakuza syndicate. Despite her obvious attraction to him, she convinces herself that she’s not in the market for a bad boy type. But when they meet again, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to him—kicking off a steamy and dangerous love affair that threatens to consume her, body and soul.
Choko, a hostess working at a club under the Oya syndicate’s protection, has her sights set on Oya. Determined to have Oya all to herself, the femme fatale arranges for Yuri to be attacked so she can play the hero and use it as an excuse to get closer to Oya. Oya discovers Choko’s plot, but it’s part of the Oya syndicate’s creed to never lay hands on a woman. So how is he going to settle the score with her?
Honestly just loved the continuation of the plot here. We are seeing their relationship progress and still getting nice steam. Loved the bonus chapters
Definitely my favorite volume yet! I love the inclusion of a new character, Choko! I normally don't like the interloper character, but I didn't mind her here. I really love this yakuza story and how it's staying interesting. The bonus chapters were spicy and fun, too!
Today's post is on Yakuza Lover, Vol. 5 by Nozomi Mino. It is 170 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Yuri and Oya on it, dressed up for a date. As it is the fifth in the series, you need to have read the first four to understand the story. There is some mild foul language, sex and sexuality, and mild violence in this series. The intended reader is someone who likes dark romance, mafia love stories, and strong heroines. The story closely follows Yuri and at times Oya. There Be Spoilers Ahead, From the back of the book- Choko, a hostess working at a club under the Oya syndicate’s protection, has her sights set on Oya.
Review- This volume is really about Choko and her obsession with Oya. we do see Yuri as she buys a birthday present for Oya and Oya dealing with Choko but the main focus of the story is Choko and what she will do to get Oya. Of course Choko doesn't understand that Oya is not playing with Yuri, that he is in love with her. So because of that mistake, Choko is going to lose access to Oya forever. I liked this volume following another character for a more in depth look into her motives. Choko was a good side villain, she willing to do just about anything to get who she wants. But the ending was focused back right it should be, which is on Yuri and Oya. I look forward to the next volume.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Much better! The best one since volume 1. It's a small plot, but that's ok. Unlike other mangas, this simple plot will not drag on. It's over and done, and I'm looking forward to the next one. Also, one thing happened that made me very happy: Yuri.
Yuri is being smart. I greatly appreciate this because this manga did a little twist regarding a cliche! I don't read much manga anymore partly because of the cliches of characters typically not being as smart more often as I know they can be. One last thing: Oya.
This may be obvious, but I always believed the reason why Oya fell in love with Yuri at first sight was because she is pure and represents goodness while he lives and thrives in darkness. It's a special at the end of the volume that shows a glimpse into his past before he met Yuri, and it was a nice nod to show readers how much he secretly longed for what every day people have, which is an appreciation of beauty and love. I like seeing moments like that.
Oya makes the driver slow down so he can admire the cliche tree from the Mercedes window, while thinking "the only people who can truly appreciate this are the ones who are truly in love". Meanwhile, his car unknowingly stops by Yuri, who left the tree lighting because she felt out of place amongst the lovers. While manifesting her own HEA by next Xmas, she admires Oya's car. I'm a sucker for meeting before we meet type of thing.
Also, not Oya being insecure about his age! He lied saying he's turning 32 but really he'll be 35, over a decade older than Yuri. He wanted her to have a younger/less tainted man. I mean... He's trying his best.

This series is proof that I can be in love with the shojo beyond words. Because literally a specific character came up, and I rolled my eyes and scarfed inside of her like she was a real person. I’m so obsessed with this series that when I pick it up immediately, I want to read the next one. The relationship is only getting stronger. She’s only getting smarter and I absolutely love this series when it and I know that I will be on the floor crying because I never wanted to end. Literally I never wanted to end
The love story continues. Choko a new character tries to set up Yuri and put her in danger so she can save her. Choko is in love with Oya and feels by saving his girlfriend it will give them a chance to grow closer. When she fails, she gives Oya an aphrodisiac and Oya ends up going home to Yuri, thwarting her plan. Oya is able to overcome the effects of poison long enough to go straight to his love which is Yuri. This is such a great manga series!
I like the simplicity of yakuza lover. Many would say they can’t stand it cause it lacks plot, but I generally like how slow, simple it is. There’s intense books, action, and then there’s yakuza lover. A book you read to wind down and just enjoy it for the pictures and romance. Not everything needs to be complex, so I feel like after I do a big, deep emotional read, I pull out another yakuza manga and read it.
3.5 stars, this one has the best plot because we are introduced with a new character, Choko, hello love triangle! I actually like love triangles because it's fun tension. But I really didn't want the entire volume to be dominated by this character, but I get it, you have to stretch out the story.
The steam is fairly low, but you are compensated with extra bonus episodes. Overall, it passed the time, but I wanted more steam. lol.
A volume with lots of suspenseful moments! It was great to see this new anatagonist's plans be dashed. There were lots of cute moments in this one! Loved the ramen shop scenes. Yuri is definitely strong willed and determined! It was really sweet. I like that this volume had more sweetness and emotion to it. That protectiveness that Oya feels for Yuri is really nice to read. A very enjoyable volume! 4 stars
It felt like this volume had less storyline than previous volumes. I enjoyed it but it all seemed to happen and wrap up so quickly. I think I would have enjoyed it a little more drawn out. Although on the flip side I do enjoy crap behavior being shut down quickly without the miscommunication troupe.
I am really loving this series. I wasn't sure what to expect other than it would be pretty steamy...and it is...but I really enjoy these characters a lot and the series has been a compulsive read...couldn't stop reading. Unfortunately this is the most recent volume and the next comes out next month. I've pre-ordered volumes 6 and 7 and can't wait to read them.
More if the same here, half the manga is a new 'storyline' this time a jealous women who wants to steal Oya away, slips him an aphrodisiac before he leaves, and has sex with Yuri.
Then it's short stories that happened in the past, I think I would prefer more meat to the story when it's happening rather than short chapters volumes later saying "oh yeah and this happened".
This was much better than the previous two volumes, which were so meh that they left me feeling nothing. At least this one had some potential drama, but I don't get Choko's obsession with wanting Oya because he doesn't seem to have given her an indication of liking her. The girl is just delusional.
YYAAASSSS!!!! Finally a PLOT!! This one was actually pretty cool because it wasn't just Oya and Yuri rolling around in the sheets. There was actually a plot, lol. Won't spoil it, but the book read quickly, the plot was actually pretty good, Oya is still hot and badass, and Yuri... she continues to amuse, lol. And oh, steamy scenes, of course.
Love this series and the art especially in this volume is spectacular. I wish the drama involving choko would have gone on for longer but at least this shows that they really trust and love each other. Can’t wait for the next release to come out
I cannot even remember much of what happened in this volume. Kind of sad that the romance rival, the madam of another hostess club, came in and out of this volume. And the worst she did was drug him with an aphrodisiac? Even the romance scenes weren't giving.
This one had a really good plot line and I love seeing Oya be so protective of Yuri in this one. Very good book and N. Mino did so good with the artwork 🖤
