I assumed a scientist wrote this book. However, a couple of pages in, I found out the author is a dating coach. Eh, okay.

Shamefully, my biased kicked. Perhaps I unconsciously tie such a profession with those short dating-advice-podcast videos all over social media that are often unrealistic, silly, and annoying. So, I was immediately sceptic and prepared to be disappointed. I could already imagine myself writing a one-star review.

Gladly, I was wrong. The author relied on various legitimate studies, rather than his opinion, to support his claims. Each study he mentioned was worth reading about, and it deepened my sense of understanding others and myself.

However, the dating coach was, indeed, coaching. Instead of dwelling in the depths of our nature, he talked about do's and dont's in attracting a mate. Although the author claims the book is for everybody, most of his advice is directed at men pursuing women.

Some of his examples of what women find attractive are highly off, like this one:

"Who is sexier, the person who boldly puts their feet on the table despite what anyone thinks, or the person who follows all the norms of social etiquette? …. That person who puts their feet on the table may be signaling this very thing: a confidence in one's own will, and a willingness to go along with that rather than other people's rules and agendas. That's powerful, and it's sexy"

Powerful and sexy to whom? Studies suggest women find power attractive, yes, but his example is of a poorly-mannered and disrespectful person.

Overall, it's worth reading it, but keep the doubtful attitude. The studies mentioned are great, the author’s interpretations—not so.

The Science of Attraction by Patrick King is one of those books that strikes a perfect balance between research-backed insights and practical advice. If you're looking to dive into the psychology behind attraction, whether for romantic relationships or just to improve your social interactions, this book has a lot to offer.

What I really liked about this book is how Patrick brings in scientific research without making it feel like a textbook. He takes the time to break down the biology, psychology, and social dynamics behind attraction in a way that’s easy to understand. There’s a lot of interesting information on how things like body language, confidence, and even the way we communicate can impact how others perceive us. And it's not just about looks—King digs into the emotional and intellectual aspects of attraction too, which gives the book a lot more depth.

Another thing I appreciated was how practical the advice is. The book isn't just filled with theories; it actually gives you things to work on, whether it’s refining your body language or learning how to communicate in a more engaging way. The examples and exercises feel really accessible, and you can immediately start applying them in your daily life—whether you're trying to improve your dating life or just get better at connecting with people in general.

However, while the book does cover a lot of ground, some of the advice might feel a bit basic for anyone already familiar with the basics of attraction or dating. If you're someone who's read a lot on the topic, you might not find too many groundbreaking new ideas. But for those who are looking for a solid introduction or just want to polish their social skills, this is a great starting point.

It is a well-rounded, engaging read that offers both valuable knowledge and practical tips. If you're curious about what makes people attracted to one another, or just want to be more confident and engaging in social situations, it’s definitely worth checking out. Patrick King does a great job of making complex ideas feel approachable and actionable, making this book a helpful tool in understanding how attraction works.

Interesting perspectives and I really liked that after each chapter there was a “Takeaway” section to sum up the most important points of that chapter.
Seemed to be more geared towards men and mens perspectives but it is written by a male so that makes sense.
Overall, nice & easy, intriguing read!

Good resource on the psychology of building relationships but not a lot of science.

Good information on what builds attraction and how to understand and use it.

Finally science decoded the Love Spell. The Science Of Attraction by Patrick King meticulously explored all the phases of love and the package of mystery is unfolded which makes readers stunned and the myth of goosebumps, butterfly in stomach, and the so called starry eyed lovers, all the charming hoopla I found vanished from the story. And what is left? Pure biological formulation that leads to the road of so-called love fantasy and logical thinking, business concoction that determines the happily ever after story which is quite hard to believe right?
But believe me, it's all true. The hardcore reality is clear, the road map of compassion, emotional bonding, empathy, is clearly visible, and no magic happens in first impression or in Love.

Is everything just biology proven triggers? Yes.
The book is divided in seven chapters and with lucid narrative it offers knowledge about attraction, four sequential steps to attraction, teach us about body language, rules of eye contact that can surely trust worthy, the thrill, strategic touching. But for me the most interesting and fascinating part was unlocking the Arrange marriage formula and once again the psychological part is invaded with much more clarity, this clarification also indicated that India debugged the love bugs a long long time ago.

People just have different desires and concepts of what an arousing encounter looks like.

If you think this book is just for dating, then my friends, you are wrong, let me tell you in detail -
This book is filled with tremendous information, it's not only advice you for dating rather it is helpful for building personal growth, it is to polish your personal image for job interviews, social, making friends, sales and for other officials, it will be helpful to build confidence in you.

It was an okay read for something quick. I enjoyed parts of it, but much of the content feels like common knowledge for those already interested in the topic. Some sections also seem a bit outdated, as they don't take into account the social and contextual variables of our current era. Additionally, the book is primarily written from a male perspective, focusing on how men can attract women rather than offering insights for both genders. That said, I particularly liked the discussion on love in terms of values and the comparison between arranged marriages and modern relationships.

This book is a fascinating deep dive into the psychology behind attraction, chemistry, and love—backed by science, not guesswork. Patrick King blends evolutionary biology, peer-reviewed research, and his own experience as a dating coach to break down what really draws people together. It’s not about tricks or manipulation—it’s about understanding human behavior and using that knowledge to build authentic connections.

What I loved is how actionable and insightful it is. Whether you’re single, in a relationship, or just curious about what makes people tick romantically, this book offers practical tools to improve your love life—from flirting and emotional connection to physical intimacy. It’s a thought-provoking and empowering guide that will make you rethink how you approach attraction.
