About the author

John F. MacArthur, Jr. was a United States Calvinistic evangelical writer and minister, noted for his radio program entitled Grace to You and as the editor of the Gold Medallion Book Award-winning MacArthur Study Bible. MacArthur was a fifth-generation pastor, a popular author and conference speaker, and served as pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California beginning in 1969, as well as President of The Master’s College (and the related Master’s Seminary) in Santa Clarita, California.

I own this book and it is seriously the most encouraging theological book that I have EVER read. It's not just one of those books that gives you suggestions on how to pray, but Pastor MacArthur brings what the Bible has to say about praying into the book. It really gave me a better perspective on how God views my prayers. I always thought that I should just pray for God to forgive my sins, and maybe for the stuff that I REALLY want, but there is so much more to prayer. It is an excellent book and I totally recommend it to everyone.

I absolutely loved this book about prayer, it was an easy read, and it teaches you how to have an intimate prayer life with the Lord. "Prayer is a way of life for true Believers" and if you desire to learn more about prayer then read this book, I highly recommend it to all.

John MacArthur gives a encouragement and a challenge by providing us 10 Motivations to Pray

1. Desire for the Lord's glory
2. Desire for fellowship with God
3. Desire for needs to be met
4. Desire for wisdom
5. Desire for deliverance from trouble
6. Desire for relief from fear and worry
7. Desire to offer thanks for past blessings

This is a great book to begin understanding the meaning and use of prayer.
Though it goes deeper than just scratching the surface there is still much to be learned ... therefore encouraging personal study and a continual seeking of God's face!

Prayer is a great and powerful tool/weapon, spiritually speaking, and every Christian MUST know how to use it.

John MacArthur has written a book that is different from many of the books on prayer that I have read. He addresses six aspects of prayer and five additional hindrances to having the prayer life the Lord would want for us. He uses Scripture to compare/contrast what we traditionally do in prayer to what we should be doing in prayer - then closes each chapter with prayers from himself and Charles Spurgeon.
