A lighthearted fantasy about a quirky elf from another world who's fascinated by video games--and the local girls who have to deal with her.

Koganei Koito is a teenager who works as an attendant to the Takamimi Shrine. Rumors have it that a deity dwells within the shrine, but the actual resident is an immortal elf who found herself stuck on Earth some four hundred years ago. What's more, the elf is a total shut-in who won't go outside...and has developed a taste for video games! Now the attendants at the shrine have to cater to the elf's love of the most modern gizmos-from handheld games to virtual reality headsets-in this charming fantasy comedy!

Last volumes cliffhanger was quickly resolved so the chapters could return to slice-of-life non-action and Edo Period history lessons. But now the author seems to like the cliffhanger thing, so another minor problem is left unresolved until next volume.

I'm not sure cliffhangers are necessary, since readers are just going to show up because they like the characters or will have already dropped the series because they find it too boring. I'll be sticking around.

I only noticed this volume that while one or two men have appeared in the background scenery here and there, no man has had a speaking part in this series. I have no objections to that, I'm only annoyed that I hadn't noticed earlier.

It's been two years since I read the previous volume of this series. Time flies! I didn't remember either of the other two elves besides Elda, or their miko, but it doesn't matter all that much. This is a good vibes manga leavened with some very gentle comedy and the occasional tidbit about Edo history.

'Otaku Elf' continues to be really good in ways that it didn't have to be, and so I'm excited by the announcement of an upcoming anime; I just really love the edge of nostalgia and history that it adds to what's also a pretty solid comedy premise.
