I just love all the world building that goes into every floor in the tower the climbers manage to climb to, and this time round our friends are climbing to floor 60, that of Nightmare City where all the criminals, fugitives and rogue climbers dwell. This city is run by criminal gangs all wanting to gain more power and they do this by threatening and putting fear into one another. However an auction is to be held in the city and a folder holding secrets from the past is to be auctioned. The rogue climber better known as the scarlet demon, the same one who nearly killed Max in the tournament, and who happens to be Elle, the young sister he has been on the look out for will no doubt be bidding for this as will Nicolas Adler, the person who had killed their parents. Max climbed to floor 60 with Casey, Toto and Tiberius and they got into trouble as soon as they exited into the city. From thereon they were earmarked by the gangs who were all set to make their life hell. However a member of the Faceless Association took them under her wing, but nothing gets done for free in Nightmare City. Max had a new ability which he took from Elle through his mimic ability but he now had to learn how to use his new break mode powers. Zack the drunk who lived in the junkyard was the one to teach him. They also needed to make as much money as they could prior to the auction as the competitors were richer than they were . All Max wanted was to get close to his sister and to persuade her to come home, but Elle and her friends Kai and Winifred of the Fallen Angels would have none of this. A gang war was triggered and a mass murderer known as the butcher was on the loose and our trio were in for all sorts of edge of the seat adventures. I love that Max never loses hope and keeps striving to gain his sister's trust even at the risk to his own life once again. He is now being called the God Killer and his ingenuity and perseverance are what see them through so many of their ordeals. Max is a true hero, young but full of ideals which he strives to maintain in the face of so much evil. I am also enjoying the romance which is gently unfolding between Max and Casey, they make a perfect team and I am really looking forward to the next book in this very thrilling series!

Wow! This book was explosive and so very bittersweet. Max has to continually innovate and outperform to just stay abreast of everything that gets thrown at him in this book.
I do wish that his mastery of Break Mode had taken longer. He’s manipulated time before to achieve amazing results in a short time, relatively. I would have liked to have seen that be used again here, rather than him simply being the Break Mode savant that Zach joked about. But that, in no way, stopped me from enjoying Max’s progression.
I have no doubt that Max, Casey, and perhaps others are going to achieve tower god status very quickly. And when that happens, what kind of new politics will they have to face? What about those two beings who were so derisive of human climbers, but watchful of Max? Are they related to the warning from floor 99?
What was in the folder about Alder? We know what was there about Max and about Elle, but why would Alder’s information be in the same place? Why would the Zestiris leaders have chosen to rewrite eveyone’s memories so often, and so much? Is it simply a power thing, or is there something else behind it?
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This book was all over the place.
Way too many random POV chapters from the random people (and a fish??) that really didn’t add anything to the story. It throws you out of immersion and adds useless unfleshed characters to the story every single chapter. There were also flashbacks all over the place for these random characters and it just added the whole mess.
Character interaction has devolved some, all the fights seemed to be one upping each other with kiddy comebacks until someone with the MC wins.
Progression was fast but not really fleshed out, Max has a new power and is somehow able to train it 100x faster than everyone that’s ever had it. This “genius” also showed up half a dozen times throughout the book where he made “brilliant” tactical decisions that nobody could have ever guessed. It was too much.
This is a good example of popcorn fiction. Super fast read that is all over the place but still pretty enjoyable. Main plot barely moved but everything is coming together.

I just couldn't
My last review of this book was bad because of all the plot holes I was noticing, which were much less noticeable in this one. But it my god what was with all of the flashbacks? And all of the characters going "Alright I'm gonna use my full power" *get beaten easily* " Haha you thought that was my full power, that was only 1%". And I'm not even exaggerating on that one, that was literally something that happened and was why I stopped the book at about 70%. And then the fight scenes, my god, sometimes the character will act like what they did was genius even though it was the dumbest thing ever. An example is when someone back flips away from a rocket and the attacks it instead of just moving out of the way. And my last complaint is that the main character doesn't even need his super overpowered ability, he's clearly shown to be clever and smart, I would have so much more interested if he had a boring power that fit well with his planning mindset.

Great story!
There was a lot of progress made in book 4, including resolution to some prior situations (I won't spoil anything, but some are heartwarming) and new information on mysteries.
We learn the backstory for several characters, including enemies. Even as an enemy gets their comeuppance, you can't help but feel if things had just gone a little different for them, maybe they wouldn't have ended up a criminal and/or enemy.
The final wrap up brings a simmering issue to a boil and we can see the final showdown in the tower is looming. I'm really looking forward to the next book!

Short but decent read
Worth reading and a pretty good series so far.
I do have one gripe about this book, it was short and felt rushed. The chapters were very short with lots of chapter number page breaks padding the number of pages. This isn't the first time I've seen this done so I can only assume it's to do something like pad their page count so they could make a deadline that had a certain page requirement. Yeah...it's annoying to have to flip pages so often because chapters are only a page or two long.
Other than that, decent read and the plot moved along very quickly. Maybe a little too quickly?

I overall liked the book, although it did feel a bit rushed. Also the author tends to overly rely of the skill fusion element to create fake tension, this is even more obvious when the MC waits until he is in the middle of a big fight to magically fuse a skill and viola problem solved. If it was just once or twice it wouldn't be such a big issue but it happened way too many times in one book. This takes away from the fun aspects of experimentation, all for creating cheap tension that's resolved in the knick of time where the MC gets a sudden bout of "genius insight".

Fun Series but this one was rushed
I've enjoyed the series to this point, but this book in particular was very difficult to read. The constantly jumping perspectives are distracting. Getting new character PoVs for a half page before never interacting with those characters again is frustrating. This, coupled with the fact that the main character hasn't had to struggle to achieve his broken abilities in some time, makes the most recent installment in the series quite disappointing. Hopefully the author remedies these problems in future .

Max and Casey are on a mission. They need to find out what happened to him. The memories that were revealed to him in the tournament don’t match up with what he remembers. There is an organization that stores memories. They will need to start there.
I have really enjoyed this series. It very much feels like an episode of Dragon Ball Z. Big over the top acting and an incredibly over powered MC. The characters are all well done and their back stories are filled in nicely with this book. Steve Campbell does a great job with this one!

Anime RPG
The series started off well and then had progressed into bad anime. How many times are we going to fall back on the “This pipsqueek will never defeat me. I am blah blah rank”. “You will never stand against my ultimate form”. “Grrr how did you…”.
Book 4 was def a struggle to get through. Much less about progression and gaining levels than previous books. And the constant use of anime villain tropes is just getting exhausting. Think I’ll

Thoroughly enjoyable
Reading this book is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle and a very enjoyable and rewarding manner. The way he adopts and switches from perspective perspective and adds back story really brings the story together and gives it a very unique feel. I would really like to see more of Max's stats as he develops this new power. Overall great book great addition to the story a must read for people that are fans of the franchise.

Didn't get much time to throw a review up until today, but still, one of my top 15 favorite series. It has straightforward prose, the characters are interesting but not overly complex and while there are a lot of heavy topics that get touched upon, the tone stays mostly campy and enjoyable.
It's a great read when you are looking for just plain entertainment.

I've fell asleep on every tower climber book every single one lol this series is golden. I will admit Jacob tanner did get a lil corny at the end. I don't feel the need to do a long review for this book because if your this far into the series your probably gonna get this one. But this book is one of the best in the series. The fighting is golden, narration is peak, characters are good. No problems with this series. It does feel a little rushed, but other then that this series is awesome.

Max and Casey continue to evolve as people and so do their powers. The flow, pacing, and characters in the story are great and it makes for an easy and fun read. This is the best book of the series so far and I have high expectations for the next installment.

Tower Climber Excellence!
Jakob Tanner has done it again with book 4 of his Tower Climber series! It was great to see where Max's adventures to find his sister took him, along with what friends and challenges he made. This is a definitely a must read for anyone who likes this series and/or genre!

I have a plan... flashback
The headline describes almost every encounter in this book. It's tiring. This series has ideas that are so enjoyable it's just too bad that the writing doesn't execute those ideas well.
I'll probably keep reading until the conclusion because the storyline is good I'll just have to grit my teeth through the bad writing.

Worst book in the series by far
Felt like this book was written by a different author. The pace was completely different than previous books, which threw me off, and it was like the 4th book was written without any of the details and charm I loved about the first three. Disappointed.

I really enjoyed this one from the beginning until the end. I was worried that it'd be like Book 2 all over for me but thank goodness it wasn't! It was action-packed, funny, exciting, and a bit heartbreaking.
Another reason why I enjoyed this book so much is Steve Campbell's narration. He's done an amazing job with this series!

Super Plot Twists
This story is mostly g rated and then it adds r rated plot twist. The Mc finds his sister, but learns she was tortured for years by the people he works for. He gets amazing powers. But his childhood was spent in a wheelchair and getting beaten up at school and at the orphanage.

Finale is on its way. This was a good lead up. Wrapped up most of the side plots and leaving the main storyline all that’s left to resolve. Can’t wait.

Liked it
Fast paced page turner with interesting characters that you can instantly root for. Nice plotlines that I will have to reread because I was speed read as fast as I could to find out what happened next. Definitely can't wait for book 5 highly recommend this series

Great book
This continued the story the progression action and adventure. Though the MC could use a few beatdowns but his progression is nice and I like the evolutions of the powers.

Another excellent book!
Anything that comes from Jakob Tanner is worth a read but wow this series is amazing. Each book keeps you flipping pages and wanting more. Love the characters and their development. Keep them coming!

Best one so far
I enjoyed this book thoroughly, it's exceptionally well executed and just flows well. It was better than all the ones before it thus far and it makes me year for the next book in the story.

Another fantastic edition to the Tower Climber universe. The characters are fantastic, the abilities & ingenious ways they are used are beyond incredible, and the story pulls you along like a raging river. Jakob Tanner just keeps getting better!
