Rate this book
Carlie Ellis had never thought of leaving her hometown, and by doing so, hindering her relationship with her parents. Still, starting a family and a new life in New York had brought her so much happiness, she wouldn't have it any other way. Yet Carlie's bliss would come to an abrupt end, after losing her husband suddenly. Left with no other option, there was only one place for her and her daughter, Josie, to return to; her family home. Amid mourning and reconciling with her parents, Carlie cannot even begin to think about the future, let alone finding love again.

Especially when family secrets put Josie’s life in danger...

Conscious of Carlie's unfortunate situation upon her return in Helena's Wallow, Sheriff Alan Lansky knows that courting her would be entirely out of line. When the urgent case of her daughter's kidnapping falls in his hands, Alan puts his feelings aside and joins forces with Carlie to rescue Josie. Together they will need to beat the odds and uncover past secrets. But just when Alan thinks they are getting closer to finding Josie, somehow her captors always seem to be two steps ahead.

If only he could solve the case in time, bringing everyone out to the other side unharmed...

A series of tragic events will become the reason Carlie and Alan's paths will begin to entwine more than either of them anticipated. Will they get to explore their emotions, or is the unveiling of hidden truths going to turn them both into victims of fate?

"A Lesson in Trust and Hope" is a historical western romance novel of approximately 80,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.

Carlee, Josie and Alan

Carlee is back in Helena’s Wallow with her 3 year old daughter Josie. It's been a year since her husband died in an accident and her father-in-law has demanded that she leave New York and give up her home so he could take everything her husband had and ruin it! She's not happy about having to come home but it's better than nothing. She and Josie are on their way to see the preacher, as he has been helping her deal with everything that has happened, when they hear horses and the next thing she knows is Josie is being ripped from her arms and the preacher is on the ground. Alan is the Sheriff, and after taking care of the preacher at his brother-in-law's office and making sure his sister Della is fine, since she is getting close to her due date, he knows he has to find the little girl who has become the sweetheart of the town! After the first ransom note arrives, Carlee finds out the brother she thought was dead, isn't! Now her parents need to explain about their son Daniel. What things will they reveal? Will they get Josie back unharmed? Will that be the end of Daniel and his gangs trouble? Only one way to find out, read this great story by Ellen Knightley.

Carlie left home and married a man her parent were not crazy about. They didn't want her to leave her hometown. Brandon and Carlie had a spitfire of a daughter named Josie. However Brandon had a fatal accident, and Carlie & Josie were left with no choice but to return to her parents' home. Alan Lansky is sheriff of Helena's Wallow, Carlie's hometown. When he and Carlie meet, there are immediate sparks. They spend time getting to know each other and become friends, hoping for more. Then Josie is kidnapped. This is a good story, with a lot of twists that will keep you interested. A good read.

Acquired Kindle edition when offered free on Amazon.

I think these "books" are packaged by someone who either doesn't know what books are supposed to look like, or who is simply out to scam the system with triple-spaced block paragraphs.

Lackluster writing, saccharine plot, cardboard characters. Recommended only for the truly desperate.

Great Read

This is my second time reading this. The plot and characters had a lot of excitement and family intrigue. Alan and Carlie were brought together at first by her three year old daughter. Carlie was a widow and moved back home after her father-in-law took her home and money. A bit of romance was also included in this great human interest story.

Great book. Full of action and twists and turns enough to keep one reading and turning pages rapidly. I loved Carlie’s story and the way it got intertwined with Alan’s. Her brother Daniel and the others in town. Just a few grammatical errors.

Interesting!!

This is an entertaining, interesting story. I was enraptured from the start to the finish. The book biggest lesson I took from this story is that faith is most important of all.

A good book. Even though I was given a copy of this book by the author, it in no way influenced my opinion and this is my honest review.

Ok

A good story with plenty going on. However, it just didn't engage me as expected. It's like the characters needed greater depth or something? Apart from that, it was good.

All the expected problems of a young widow returning to her childhood home with her toddler daughter. A plot twist when her daughter is kidnapped and another with the introduction of a single, young, handsome sheriff. One more surprise twist kept me turning pages into the wee hours. I enjoyed this story, which was without cliffhangers and a HEA ending.

Apart from some punctuation errors, this story still held up very well.

I enjoyed the emotion of the characters and the twist at the end with the antagonist. It's a straight forward story, with peaceful ending. The journey the protagonist embarks on is filled with suspense and deep family secrets.

The message in the story is also very subtle to the reader.
