A fighter with one ultimate goal

Water dragon shifter Ranulf only wanted one thing in his life: to serve his king as a member of the famed Dragon Guard. But for a dragon from the wrong side of the islands like him, such a dream was out of reach. So, when opportunity strikes and he gets chosen for the Dragon Guard training pool, he pushes himself and reaches the top of his class.

But when he meets his fated mate, everything changes for him. Not only was his dragon’s obsession with her putting his own goals in peril, but then he finds out she’s another unreachable dream — a princess, cousin to his revered king. He vows to ignore the desire brewing in him and achieve his lifelong goals.

A princess with plans of her own

All her life, Princess Alyx wanted to escape just that — her boring, humdrum life stuck on a magical island. When her dreams finally come true and she escapes, she instantly embraces her freedom and newfound opportunities, including finally popping her cherry. But finding the right guy for the job is more difficult than she thought, especially when her raging hormones demand she get down and dirty with a certain hunky, hulky tattooed Dragon Guard, who doesn’t even know she exists.

When an invitation to the world’s most exclusive coming-out ball arrives, Alyx must travel to Paris. This is her chance to expand her horizons — and finally be deflowered — but to her surprise, the man of her fantasies is assigned to guard her.

Can she escape his brooding gaze and get into some sexy shenanigans or, perhaps, make her own dreams come true by seducing her Dragon Guard?

Dragon Guard Fighter is a full-length steamy standalone fantasy paranormal romance featuring a hot, tattooed dragon shifter hero, a fun-loving princess, plus action, passion, and a HEA guaranteed to satisfy you!

A princess and a farm boy, could it ever work.
This is another good book full of action and love, from Alicia.
The series never fails to deliver.

Ranulf and Princess Alyxandria of Zaratena, they are a great pair, a perfect match. If only they could both see it.
Ranulf does, or at least his dragon does, but Alex well she’s a different matter.

Lots of pairs are hinted at not just these two, I won’t give spoilers.
So get reading .
If your a fan you’ll love this one.

Royal Siblings

The story was primarily about the Princess and her dragon mate. I did not expect her character would be as written based on previous story with her in it. I enjoyed the finished product and how she was a young woman. Exploring freedom, and her sexuality.
Her brother was not a surprise and I like how the author told his and his dragon mates courtship.
Was surprised about some turns, and thrilled there were no kidnapping, killings, violence. Instead it was about the characters falling in love and misunderstandings and communication

This was such an awesomely enjoyable read, very lighthearted and freshly light. This is the story of not one but two dragon guards (in this case, wannabes) and their fated mates. It’s a story about coming to age, losing some of the childish innocence but not it’s freshness. I’ve read it in one sitting as it was so endearing and funny. I truly recommend this book. Thank you Ms Alicia Montgomery for all your wonderful characters.
(I was given an ARC and this is my very honest review)

My take on this entire series is "not really bad but not good either." Unfortunately, the majority of the books is just vague melodramatic fluffle surrounding little bits of love story; a lot of running around and hints of action without much action on page.
While Stein and Vera are the most bothersome couple in the series, Alyx is by far the worst character in the entire series. She starts and ends her time on page as nothing more than a drunken entitled childish fool. Her ability to succeed in fashion by the end of the series shows zero effort on her own part beyond the ability to ride the coat tails of those more successful. Ranulf by contrast is honorable and hardworking, finding himself in the position of losing his dream due to the idiotic decisions made by Alyx. Is this slightly harsh considering he was an active participant? Perhaps, but Ranulf was burdened by the drive of the mate bond where Alyx just made poor choices one on top of the other. She is hands down the worst FMC I've read in a while.
This book unfortunately drags out more questions as to the point of Prince Sasha in the greater picture of the knights cult storyline. He somehow is human despite the dragon blood being on his mother's side. In earlier books shifter nature breeds true (see Poppy's son) and later books hint at the matriarchal line being the driving factor (see Willa and Thoralf's book, although even that story muddies the water with Thoralf's dragon). The knights cult would have no incentive for chasing a human at all, let alone for 60 years.
Honestly, with the exception of Ranulf, this entire book could be tossed in the trash and I wouldn't miss it from the overall series. It doesn't fit in so many ways.
If you're jumping in for mindless low thought entertainment, ehh you might be ok. Overall the series failed to capture my attention most of the time and did not give me true reading satisfaction. I don't hate it but would have stopped probably after book 2 if I had anything better on my tbr.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Ranulf has his hands full with Alyx!

I had so much fun reading this book! We're back in the Northern Isles as Ranulf, the best of the Dragon Guard recruits, is knocked flat on his rear when he meets his mate, the no-longer-isolated Princess Alyx, who is on a mission to explore everything she's been missing out on.

This drive to learn as much as she can, as fast as possible sometimes makes Alyx seem a little immature, but given her background it's to be expected. I loved the internet-inspired click-bait titles that added a splash of whimsy to each new chapter. Alyx's enthusiasm was definitely a breath of fresh air, especially as it balanced the focused determination that kept Ranulf on the fast track to achieving his career dreams.

Alyx and Ranulf's romance was fiery hot and passionately combustible. His deliciously dominant personality is the perfect offset for her inexperience and act-first, think-later impetuosity. Their love story was legendary, even without the surety of the mates connection.

Ranulf's family-feud rivalry with Magnus was expertly handled and I absolutely adored how it all turned out. The author brilliantly combined the main love story with a secondary romance that effortlessly spread all the love imaginable throughout the whole book. Love is in the air around every corner, and I couldn't have loved it more. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Immature and stupid spring to mind for the heroine, with a hero who is strong minded but lacking in confidence due to his social station.
I usually love this authors books but this spin off series is not one of my favourites.
I really struggled to read this due to my dislike of the heroine. I did push on to the end but terms like spank bank didn’t help.
I thought Alyx was a spoilt child in the previous book and her early behaviour and thinking in this one didn’t change or improve my opinion of her. She seems to have a big drinking problem and acts like an air head.
Unfortunately I never feel she matures but she is extremely young, or sheds the princess attitude. Her wants and wishes cause Ranulf to get into serious trouble.
She falls into a job most people would kill for due to being a princess, not that she has talent. She may end up being skilled but it does not show here.
Ranulf is deserving of someone special and better to my mind. With his strong sense of commitment to family. He has a single-minded determination to improve his lot in life.
Two matings in this story, the second being a same sex couple.
I hate miscommunication as a plotline but at least this is cleared up quickly.
Liked Ranulf and Magnus standing up to end a long running feud between their respective houses. And it was great to have Cam and JD make an appearance.
I wonder when Lady Vera and Stein will get their story.
This is my honest review of this book but really not one I will reread.

a miss this time

First let me say that I have read all of Alicia’s books and I’ve enjoyed them. She has a great voice and I enjoy the worlds she creates. The northern Isles in particular is wonderful. However, These last couple of books have been hard for me to get through. There are inconsistencies (prince sasha was a baby when he fled vs. a boy of 6 or things like he unbuttoned her shirt but it just said she was wearing a dress) and while most of them are small it does make the book less enjoyable. This installment in particular was quite boring. I skimmed so much of the repetitive dialogue about/during the ball. And I have never skimmed a book from this author before. Also, the main characters never even have a real conversation until the epilogue! Alyx was such a funny character, it just seemed like a big missed opportunity to not have them bantering and getting to know each other. Honestly, I couldn’t been great but it just wasn’t. There was no real conflict, no Knights, nothing. It was like a poor man’s version of the first True Mates book (Alynna and Alex’s story). Anyway, I will read the next one but this one was not a fave.

On the whole, I really like this series. But this book just left me feeling “meh.” We met Princess Alyx in the previous book, Dragon Guard Knight. She is young and has been sheltered for so long she just wants to grab life by the tail and run with it. I did find her joie de vi·vre to be rather charming and infectious. Probably because she had such an innocent outlook while trying to seem more sophisticated than she really was. Ranulf has always dreamed of being a dragon guard, and has worked very hard to be in the training program. But can they make it work? He, a poor farm boy and she, a member of the royal house?

I really can’t put my finger on why I wasn’t moved by this book. I mean, it’s not like it felt like a chore to read, but neither did I find myself excited to get back to it when I got interrupted. I guess that’s a long winded way to say that while I didn’t love the book, I didn’t hate it either. Definitely not my favorite of the series.

I’d still recommend the series, especially if you’re a fan of Alicia Montgomery’s.

Alyx and brother mikhain

This story is about princess Alyx and Ranulf but her brother prince Mikhail and his mate Magnus are in it just as much with there love story.I can not remember why they are not dragons?I thought there father who the Dragon guard saved and took into hiding was one but clearly not, I know the guard got a couple to raise the Prince while he protected them all in secret location and there daughter fell for the Prince are they not mates is that why his children was not dragons?why was he not a dragon?can not remember if this was said previously? Looks like the next book is Stein and clearly lady vera is his mate it's been clear in previous books he cares for her in his overprotective way.that will be interesting.

Wasted Potential

I waited to read a few books from the original series to this spinoff before writing a review. It’s as if Alicia Montgomery couldn’t decide whether to make these shifters badass and smart or stupid and wimpy! There’s the issue of mates which she’s written as a rare thing and her characters all admit it’s rare and they would be lucky to find their mate. You’re then shocked when they all find this ‘rare’ thing and all, except Matthew, promptly reject it and go the opposite way. How rare can it be when they ALL find mates?

Then you have a series of events leading up to a main event that all of them were somehow too blind to see until it happens. Time after time, in every book. It became really tedious.

I’ve given up on this series.

Disappointed

I have read the True Mate series the Lone Wolf Defenders series the True mates Generations series and the Lone Wold Generations series. All these had a full action theme with steamy intimate scenes. This series Dragon Guard of the Northern Isles seems rushed no action, no flow- threading of the characters lives through the series and the intimate scenes are glossed over. In this last book it’s like the book had to go woke. If I wanted to read an LGBTQ book I would have chosen that. Quite disappointed in this series so far. An arch enemy was introduced early in the series, but has stayed silent. There is no action, suspense, plot turns/twists. I’m hoping the series gets better, but 4 books in and I’m still disappointed.

This book is book four of the Dragon Guard series. Dragon shifter fated mates series. Ranulf is training to be a Dragon guard, something he wanted to be as a child meets his fated mate Princess Alyx. Princess Alyx gets invited to an exclusive ball and Ranulf is assigned to guard Princess Alyx.
You actually get two couples in this book. There is some M/M. Once Ranulf and Princess Alyx get together their relationship is hot.
I was hoping the story would have more about the mystery of the Knights of Aristaeum and the wand. This is a great series and hoping Stein is the next Dragon Guard book.

I received an Arc and an voluntarily leaving a review.

When your only dream in life is to become part of the Dragon Guard, what happens when you suddenly throw a mate into the mix? Ranulf is about to find out when he encounters Alyx. Although she feels the same attraction as him, there are a lot of assumptions and miscommunications between the pair of them. With Alyx being a princess and Ranulf her guard, will they be able to bridge the gap between their stations and claim each other as mates? This was an enjoyable story with a surprise pairing you won’t see coming and a welcome edition to the Dragon guard series.

I have to say I do love the dragon's of the Dragon Guard! They are strong, honest, loyal and hot as HELL! And there are two of them that have found their mate! But who is who's mate?? And why are they afraid to tell not only their mate but their friend and other dragon guard trainee ? And why are they so mad at their "friend"? Well maybe because they think their " friend" is trying to steal their mate!! Oh HELL NO!!
These stories about the Dragon Guard's are so good... I definitely recommend them ALL...

I really enjoyed the interactions between these two characters. They are in denial about the connection between them as one thinks he has no idea she exists and the other believes her to be too far out his league. I loved the antics between them as Alyx tries to find some freedom. This was a fun read and I truly did enjoy watching these two finally figure things out and see that they could actually be together. There was plenty to hold my attention from beginning to end. I am looking forward to more from this series as well.

Ranulf and Alyx were such an amazing couple. Throw in an extra mated pair....this book rocked. Not that I expected anything less from the author. Still a bit of mystery, action and a lot of romance. Family isn't always blood. Friends aren't always besties (okay...that was a word way too young for me). I loved the hint that the next book might be the one I've been waiting for. Yeah, that is a lie too. I anxiously wait for all of them. Luckily I received an early copy and this is my honest review.

This was a very good book and a great addition to the series. Alyx and Ranulf were great characters and I loved how Alicia mixed in Mik (Alyx’s brother) and Magnus’ (Ranulf’s rival/friend) mating. I wish they had spent more time together though, it just seemed like they were doing more running away from each other than anything. A pretty sweet story with less angst than the rest of the series. I hope we get Stein’s story! Highly recommend. Received arc and am voluntarily leaving an honest review

Best store so far!

I've been a fan of Alicia Montgomery's stories for a while now, and she just gets better and better. Now, with Alyx and Renault, we fans get a HEA, plus a fantastic subplot... and what looks to be a story for Vera and Stein (at last!) The "magazine article titles" at the start of each chapter had me cackling, but don't worry - there's plenty of steam & sweetness here too. All this, and a few Blackstone characters? Yep, this book is definitely in the top five of her stories in my book. Maybe even in the top three, with Jade and JD.

Another enjoyable and entertaining read. I really liked the interactions between Ranulf and Alyx. Both are in denial about one another. Still this was a sweet read with less angst compared to the previous books in the series. Also I liked that Mik and Magnus mating was included. I just wished they had spent more time together though, it just looked liked they spent the minority of the time running away from each other. Overall a great read. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are completely my own.

Not what I was expecting.....The book blurbs give plenty of warning that Princess Alyx is going to be the same twit in this book as she was in the prior. However, blurbs generally give notice if a story will contain a menage, BDSM or LGBT so that the buyer can decide if that is want they want to read. The descriptions of this book did not. So I was not expecting nor appreciated that a romance between Marcus and Mikhail would be a major sub plot no matter how cutely presented. This was formerly one of my favorite authors, but no longer. One star because of the deception.

Dragon Guard Fighter

Loved it again, Ms. Montgomery.
You make them all seem so real. I can see them in my minds eye and when they laugh and cry and feel stressed or anxious I feel them too. Ranulf and Alyx are special, especially because they come from different places in life, different stations but they came together so beautifully and happy. I wish we as people believed this way the world would be a much better place. Thanks for sharing again. Onward to the next story. Blessings.

Wild child Princess Alyx finally gets her wish to travel and see more of the world. What she doesn't realise is that her true mate thinks she is in love with his rival and fellow trainee Dragon Guard. Ranulf and Magnus's families have been feuding since forever but these two will need to overcome their animosity toward each other to claim their mates. This story has romance and angst and in true Dragon Guard tradition when he thinks his mate is in danger Ranulf saves the day.

Totally awesome. A princess and a dragon guard what more do you need for romance? A lot of missed communication and jealousy but they got there in the end. This is a fun series which is a spinoff from Blackstone books . Alicia's books are great for a quick read, hot shifters and a lot of fun she is one of my favorite authors. I reviewed and arc copy of this book with no obligation to review.

Dragon Guard Fighter was a great addition to the Dragon Guard of the Northern Isles series. I love how Alicia Montgomery tells such a compelling story that it gets you hooked and turning the pages until the very end. Ranulf and Alyx were great together once they finally got around to actually speaking to one another. But I really loved how the story was developed. Another very entertaining read.

Ranulf and Alyx were a fun story. Lots of smexy times and more than one head smack moment. Alyx always came off as such a party girl in the previous book that it was great to see more of her personality and depths. I think my favorite parts of the book though were some if the side characters. We get more if Lady Vera, who has really grown since she was introduced, weapons master Stein and I loved Magnus and Mikhail! I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. Alexys and Ranulf are quite different, but therefor fit together perfectly. A very smooth and lovely story about overcoming boundaries that are set by family all the while living your dream. I Just Wonder, when Lady Vera will finally get her HEA with her mate. Only time will tell, when the two of them stop fighting or rather not ignoring each other and start living.

I liked Ranulf and Alyx's story of fated mates who are committed to ignoring the inevitable. The story is an easy, fast paced, and entertaining tale. Alyx and Ranulf also experience misunderstandings and various travails before finding mated happiness. The book is enhanced by engaging supporting characters Lady Vera, magnus and Mik. I enjoyed reading this book, and look forward to what comes next.

I can not get enough of these shifters and their fated mates. The author connects her stories is amazing ways. Each story is so unique. This one brings us a big tattooed dragon shifter. From the cover you can see how intimidating he is. Then there is the Princess. Sweet and innocent only begin to describe her. She may be human but even she feels an attraction to the tough male. Just love the story and all of the series.

Ranaulf and the Princess

Honestly I loved all the books so far. The farmer winning the princess warms my heart. I'm an immersive reader, these books have been easy to jump into. Mixing with the characters and loving the lands, causing the can't put it down but don't let it end effect. I'm sure I will mourn the end of this saga of shifters. However it's giving me a thirst to read all the others. Thank you, Alicia

I love this series, well I've enjoyed all of Alicia Montgomery's books. I read a few pages and started laughing. My husband asked me why and I told him this book has a twist I did not expect, but I liked it. It was fun reading about Alyx and Ranulf, along with the twist, on how they get through the things they do. I volunteered to read an advanced copy of this book.
