Long lost since the disappearance of Arian, The Prophecy of the Seven is the key to finding the rest of the Orbs of Starsea. It would secure Lucian's position as the true Chosen of the Manifold for good. The only problem? He doesn't know where in the Worlds it is.
When he receives a mysterious vision, he drops everything to return to Volsung, the planet he’d hoped to never see again. Only there can he discover the prophecy's location.
But it might already be too late. As the Swarmers ravage the League of Worlds, the old Starsea Mages are on the rise. Like the Mage War over fifty years ago, they dream of an empire and a new era for humanity where the mages rule over all...
I'm Kyle West, author of the Wasteland Chronicles, Xenoworld Saga, Starsea Cycle, and more. I try to write books with lots of action and crazy twists to keep you turning the pages. Every book of mine can be categorized as "science fantasy," blending elements from both genres.
Another good book in the serie. Bit surprised how fast the storyline developed in the last chapters as there are still 5 books to go. Interesting to see how Kyle will fill those so I immediately started in book 6 😀
Okay I'm not gonna lie I do truly like this series although some of the main characters are pain Lucian and his girlfriend Sedan on and Emma irked me to . The rest of the crew I had no problem with they are who they are we now what to expect from them but the high school crush with the hot girls was trying . Emma needs to get over herself and made a choice and no matter what she says she does feel some sort of way about the fact that Lucian has sort of moved on . Because we all know that Lucian still has feels for Emma even if he's lie in to himself and than we have the new girl/hood rat let's face it that's what Serah is and there's nothing wrong with THAT I like her most of the times but there are the time's that Sedan is just doing too much . And I get it she had to be the tough girl in order to survive what she did she knows she's not up to Emma's standards and it grates on her I get it but PLEASE stop being a hitch about it . And then there's Lucian he's your typical young protagonist trying to save everyone because after five books he FINALLY realizes that he is indeed the CHOSEN ONE he needs to save humanity and he's got and awesome team backing him but still . He moans and he's always second guessing himself even though he's done some remarkable things his confidence in himself is iffy at best and it really annoyed me that he can so easily loan/give away one of the orbs to his Ex/The one who got away . And another thing that irks me about Lucian he's too darn trusting I get that Lucian is trying to be as transparent with his crew as he can but keep some shot to yourself ok . Anywho waiting for the next book in this series .
Loved this book. Seven orbs were needed to fulfill Arian's Prophecy. Two were in the hands of Lucian and two with Xara. Finding the other three, especially knowing someone had one of them, seemed impossible. New information found on Isis changed everything. What we aearn is that only the Chosen knows the way. We also learn that events have been happening in the lives of many to place he and them exactly where they needed to be.
The purpose of the Alksen is discovered, what they want and at least part of why they do it. Lucian has two paths he might take. One leads to immense power and the other to the end of magic. Everything says he doesn't want so much power. That could change as he accrues more orbs.
Lucian is a good person who attracts people to aid him, even some who didn't start out on his side. Vera, his one-time mentor and ally of Xara, also played her part. However, she always seems one step ahead of Lucian.
Lucian is a likeable person. We learn more about Fergus, what kind of man he was and why he was exiled. Sereh struggles with jealousy. Emma is as pure of an ally as you can get and proves to be incredibly trustworthy. A few other unexpected allies join in.
This book propelled things forward. I was trying to imagine how this series was going to get to the end "on time". Now I see it and can't wait to watch it happen.
It's been awhile since I read the previous episode of Lucian and his fun gang of delightful folk. I picked up the wrong book and was totally lost. But then...I found my place.
I think this might be my favorite of all the Starsea adventures to date. Lucian has a way of falling into luck...both good and bad. And it keeps things interesting. Gone is the morally questionable Vera and her underhanded ways. Now we have the friends made back at the academy.
My complaint is the ladies. Emma is his oldest friend, technically. They were together on the original transport to Volsung Academy, through his first days of knowing he had magical powers. Sereh is the one who endured his challenges right beside him on Psyche. It was tough times, with horrible odds. It's natural that both women would feel a sense of curiosity about one another. Emma would want to know who he's spending his time with and if they are helping or hurting. Sereh would wonder about those early days and what kind of journey Lucian was on before he met her. But they wouldn't be snarky and catty. Women of character don't act jealous to that extent. It's acceptable to have a moment or two, but Emma isn't in love.
I read this book and the next two in rapid succession, so they blurred together in my head (I'm reviewing after finishing all the books out so far). I don't want to spoil anything so I'll just say that from what I can recall this is my favorite book so far and the discovery of the "next" orb was a welcome shock. And as usual I don't like Emma.
Lucian, along with Serah and Fergus, is called back to the Volsung Academy. After negotiations and planning they are reinstated as Talents and sent, along with two other mages, on an Academy ship to Isis to search for the true Prophecy of the Seven.
Fave scenes: the casino, Lucian and Khairu’s conflict over their course, meeting with Captain Solari, and the fight over the lost orb.
I found this one to be a bit weak on story. Basically then ended up in a casino cheating their way to get money. Probably completely unnecessary to move the story along!
Weird additional tech was added and it ended with a good bang, but really… the rest of the books were so good… what happened
The last quarter of the book became fast paced with many reveals. A few i wouldn't have expected to be learned half way through the series. I'm excited to see how all these plot points are addressed in the next books
