The First Calamity failed to put an end to a decade full of conspiracy and betrayal. Even as the heroes of old return to the front stage as the world's adversary as was foretold, the way forward is fraught with traps and machinations by those who seek to further their own objectives with no regard to the harm they bring upon the innocents.
Meanwhile, the world is still afflicted by the ticking time bomb in the form of the Curse of Extinction that can extinguish the light of mankind all on its own, independent from even the mighty Calamities. But this seems to do little to unite the people into working together against the incoming crisis.
Still shunned and branded as the Enemy of the World, a lone struggle to gather power and strength continues. A clue the so-called Destroyer had found led him deep into the jungles in
Core elements for the plot, events & characters are great. The story needs a bit more editing. Like there's a part where kingdom was said several times within a few minutes.
I hope Oppa Translations keep up their good work! I decided to try this series via audio because I enjoyed reading the translation for Master Hunter K on OT's website. MCHHS has been fun. Though I would probably enjoy it more if I had read it vs listened to it. Nick Podehl is great. I love his narrations! But he can't say Korean words/names well and that can be jarring to hear.
This story developed into a mess. or lack of one really. The MC is someone you would want to punch in the face because he is such a terrible person. The MC literally causes more problems and deaths because he does not take any action or ignores it. For one, why is he just sitting around for the 7 heroes to come to him. I mean its already down to 4 but the author keeps going on about it. I am not going get the ridiculousness how out of this massive world the heroes just randomly find the MC.
We have read of min maxers and then there is our beloved MC. Takes the definition of overwhelming strength to another level. Current 3 books read together were awesome and memorable in the amount of world building and detailing. Looking forward to reading the next in the series.
For the third installment this book didn't lose any focus or energy. The protagonist was still true to his nature albeit you finally start to see cracks forming. I really enjoyed how the book ended and the direction it is going as well as the turmoil raging inside him. Can't wait for the next book!
I really enjoyed this series. I found this series randomly, while looking for other litrpg books. You folks have to give it a try, get past the first few pages and the book will swallow you up.
The problem is with the abrupt appearance of the dark-godlike weapons. The protagonist failed to use them in the previous two books, but now he pulls one or two out to use against enemies he feels are sinful.
The weapons helps finally explain what could possibly corrupt him. Except this should have been also shown in book 1 & 2. Abruptly adding the acquisition of these weapons to his past, with this book; Disconnects this book from the other two novels that is supposed to be of the same characters.
Furthermore, a primary antagonist, the character Sujin keeps being altered to fit each book. The first book had Kim tell her his name; Then in the second book, she abruptly forgets this for some reason. Third book, kind of expands upon her; Except it calls into question all her past failures to act against Kim. It creates many logic fallacies with her past actions.
Furthermore, it seems rather silly for “Earth” humans to be ignorant that knowledge of the future automatically changes it. Every step taken with the knowledge creates many possible divergences.
My Rating System: 5- Perfect for my taste, I could not physically stop reading/listening and wanted more afterward. 4- Almost perfect, could not stop reading/listening, probably wanted more afterward. 3- Enjoyed the book, and could see others loving it, I need to think if I want more. 2- I can see why others might like the book, but I could not, I do not want more. 1- What is this? What went wrong? Why did they do this? This doesn't make any sense! (No idea who it is for, but definitely not for me).
It seems that the series gets more depth as it progresses. At first I wasn't a fan of this book because it had more character growth than slapping down enemies. In the end I enjoyed it.
It was also sad to see that everyone blaming their bad decisions and deeds on the protagonist, not realising they were more of a villain than him by doing so.
I would like to see how this plays out in the next book.
The poor carbuncles! This sub plot was flawed and unnecessary as only the mage himself knew about their potential.
The very sudden introduction of the cursed calamity weapons finally showed a potential reason for the corruption of the protagonist beside the trapped scroll.
Once again the protagonist could have saved many lives but chose not to. He truly is a sociopath.
Criticism and comments
I utterly despised the introduction of another cockroach-like annoying side character..
I'm having my issues with this series. Mostly because I still don't quite like the main character, and both his and the side characters' behavior seems kind of inconsistent to me. I do like the story, though, and I still want to know more. This one was better than the last one again, so I hope it'll keep pulling me through till the end.
I love the first two books but this one is at a completely different pace. While its nice to get the next book fast, its not worth the loss quality/style.
Felt like a compilation of short stories. I also felt like the book started off a little slow. This can be a problem with web serializations that aren’t really broken into books. That being said, the book ended with a bang. I just want to go binge the rest of the translated chapters now.
And I'm not in the least bit disappointed. This book continues it's dark theme and it keeps mea addicted to reading to hold hope for some light happening. If you've read the other two books you'll still love this one.
What a pleasure to read an interesting litrpg story that is both well written and well edited. The MC is very powerful but the author doesn’t overplay this and keeps it interesting for the reader. Looking forward for the next volume.
This book is much more dark. We see our MC’s struggle with his darkness and we can see how he could have become a calamity. There is plot progression and good character development.
This series so far is a definite must read for people who love over powered MCs. I especially enjoyed how the author still made the books in this series so far interesting. As it is very hard to write a story with a character that can beat every opponent.
I loved the book alot of heroic excitement that brought the book together, I thought he would end up killing all the seven heroes in this book but I guess not.
This book is a bit of a conundrum to me. It’s somehow both confusing and thoroughly enjoyable at the same time. The parts of the story I could follow, had me entertained. However, I was confused about scene changes, and plot switches about 50% of the time
Our hero slowly becomes not only more heroic but unwillingly human. Set in fantasy, the plot is surprisingly logic based. I have enjoyed every page and look forward to the next instalment.
I have read 3 books of this series and I thoroughly enjoyed them ,after the first book the writer was more professional in their writing!! I am going to start the fourth book very soon!!
I've been immersed in the recent wave of lit-RPGs, and revisiting this one reminded me why it's so special. I originally read it as a web novel and it's still unique and compelling today. A definite must-read for any lit-RPG fan.
Still one of my favorite OP MC, the story is getting ever more complex and now we wait to see if the MC is going to fall to the same evil he is trying to prevent
