Coaxed the fly and to the spider..."Let me invite you to my party, I believe the wine is red." Sneered the spider at the fly, as he gave a dreadful shiver. "Poison is the punch...a million is the guest list...and you will not serve me beside the molded bread."
Juli Mason hired Bertie the Bag Lady, living in the alley behind Snips and Snails, out of desperation. It was a smooth move.
Who knew Bertie would clean up so well? … Or that she was in actual fact, a Sous Chef with serious skills in the kitchen? But the star Cook of Snips and Snails Café is not all she is. When the Hat River in Veil Falls coughs up a wrecked Cadillac Sedan beneath the Fae Road Bridge and Bertie Faints at the news...Juli smells a mystery...
Perhaps it's the body they found floating on the floor of the front seat, or the second in the back. Is it murder most foul, or an unfortunate accident? And why do all the clues point to Bertie?
Add in the rude new birdwatchers that have checked into Lovelace resort, and the discovery of what was once missing... Is Bertie's strange behavior and the guest's unexpected arrival all just an odd coincidence?
There's something strange going on in Veil Falls. It's up to Juli Mason to solve the case...or the results could just be murder.
When I was a child I wanted two things. To Write a Novel and to be Wonder Woman and save the world.
Somewhere past 40, I realized the tights were never going to fit, and the only flying I was ever going to do was in a plane.
So instead, I write my Strong and Sassy Heroes/Heroines into the novels I pen…
I build doorways into contemporary worlds filled with magic, that allow all of us to be a hero to our own fantastical imaginations.
To me, every character is real. I walk alongside them as they discover that fear is the flip side of courage, that survival may just be a badge of honor, and that our flaws are an opportunity to emerge stronger, and discover our own personal brand of superpowers—at any age.
Puzzling mysteries, greedy and cruel criminals, and missing treasure keep Juli and the grams on their toes. The truth about Bertie sets off a harrowing clash of events with Juli in the middle. Hard to put this one down.
Another great book by Rain! A decent length, paranormal cozy with a quirky take on the classic culinary and witch cozy tropes. A real page-turner with comedy laced throughout the plot. Can’t wait for the next book!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the 4th in the series, and I was just a little disappointed with it. I enjoy the characters and it is an easy read, but this one felt like it was hastily penned. There were a few miscues and errors that caused some confusion during reading. On the whole I enjoy this series and will give the 5th book a try, hoping the flaws in this one were a one-off.
This was a very unorganized read. It seemed like words were missing on almost every other page. This made it very difficult to read. This book was a cross between books about the "mob" & weak paranormal happenings. The ending was more of a cliffhanger which I am not a fan of.
Juli Mason hired Bertie Marson the Bag Lady, living in the alley behind Snips and Snails because she was a Sous Chef and could actually cook. But when skeletons are found in a submerged, wrecked Cadillac in the Hat River, Bertie has a suspicious reaction to the news and faints. According to Lyle, the vehicle had been underwater for at least a year for them to decompose as they did. Both were males. If there was another body in the trunk, they didn’t know yet since their tools broke before the trunk opened. Is this a murder? An accident? And what about the clues that point to Bertie?
There are too many coincidences occurring and Juli Mason needs to solve the case so they know what really happened.
The plot is well-written on this older case where all they have to work with are two skeletons. The characters are easy to like as the reader watches them move smoothly through the story line. This was an enjoyable cozy mystery with the right balance of suspense, curiosity, danger, and intrigue. Grab your copy and follow Juli as she looks for answers in this one.

Add in the rude new birdwatchers that have checked into Lovelace resort, and the discovery of what was once missing. Is Bertie's strange behavior and the guest's unexpected arrival all just an odd coincidence? A kitten who can talk and a rambunctious puppy these are the perfect thing to make this mystery. Bertie didn't know where the diamonds were. Juli was caught up in this mystery. I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
MS. Rain has done it again. The latest chapters of Juli's adventure are more enthralling than the last. The character development is great. As more of each person's story becomes known the more you feel as if Veil Falls is down the road and you can go for a visit. I have never wanted to be a witch before, but being a soup witch seems like it might be fun. I would love to stop in the Snips and Sails and have a bowl of soup and one of Brownie's cocktails. Perhaps Ms. Rain would consider writing a companion cookbook. I can't wait for the next book. Everyone who loves paranormal stories will enjoy these books.
I enjoyed reading more about the cafe and the kitchen soup witch. There was an obnoxious family who visited on vacation, but they were more dangerous than anyone thought. Loved the mystery of deaths, kidnapping as well as missing diamonds. Riley, an energetic, talking kitten was the light relief which was so welcome.
I have really enjoyed this series of books. As I said in my last review, the books just keep getting better. The main characters are fun, endearing, and witty. The plot is easily followed and the story fun to read. I definitely recommend this book and the entire series.

Interesting and imaginative, ull of misters and witches and magic. A sprinkling of romance and of course crazy families and famail love. Another good tale of good and magic.
Who was in the car in the river? The Soup Witch searches for who could have the answers to the puzzling mystery of the bodies in the recovered car. Amazing characters, baffling mysteries and a HFN ending. Enjoy!!
This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
