And Dillon Cunningham hates her with the fire of a thousand suns... Only, it's not hate as much as... something else. The things that happened between them in high school, coupled with the loss of his dad, are a big part of what drove Dillon to decide that his future would be far, far away from Solano Creek, his family, and especially, Sophia.
So when his brother Boston's wedding brings him back to his hometown, and circumstance throws him together with the girl he once thought might be THE ONE, he does everything in his power to avoid her.
But Sophia has a plan too. Her lingering feelings about Dillon have gotten in the way of everything else she's tried to do with her life. She's going to banish him from her heart for once and for all. And it will only take ten texts.
But as Sophia does her best to repel the guy she fears she'll always love, Dillon is realizing maybe he should have never run away. And getting closer to the things that scare him could be the answer he needs.
I'm USA Today Bestselling author Delancey Stewart. My contemporary romances run the gamut of settings and setups, but they always deliver humor, heart and heat. It's a guarantee.
I write from my home in Denver, CO, where I manage a household full of boys and men. Okay, only one man. The hubs. But two boys. I mean, three if you count the hubs. (You see why I do words and not numbers. I was told there'd be no math in this bio. Someone lied.)
I grew up in California and have had more jobs than anyone on earth (personal trainer, pharmaceutical rep, copywriter, tech writer, marketing director, wine seller, elementary school teacher... I'm not kidding. The list. It goes on.) But the one I love the most is writing, in part because I get to meet people who love books and stories as much as I do! Please don't hesitate to get in touch to say hello, and don't forget to join my newsletter!
you know when you read and you read and then you realize that you've only read 2 pages? this was me with this book, i wanted to love it, but sadly i just wanted to end it!
this is a childhood friends, to ''enemies'' to lovers romance.
Lookout…there’s another Cunningham brother to swoon hard over! Dillon just might be my favorite. *gasp* His & Sophia’s story was the cutest and the sweetest and I loved it so much!!
Dillon is the brother who hardly ever comes home. He has his reasons. And one of those reasons is named Sophia. The girl next door did a number on him and broke his heart back in high school. But little does he know, he broke hers, too.
The communication between them via text is all sorts of fun and hilarious and I’m sure I had a perma-grin all the way through this book. And when they were actually together? I swear I could see little hearts floating all around them.
The entire cast of characters, yes - even Frank, make this a highly entertaining series for me. The whole Cunningham family is utterly delightful and very easy to love. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of the other books and now I can add this one to the list. It made me so dang happy. It’s adorable, light-hearted RomCom goodness at its finest. This writing duo is on my list of automatic one-click authors and this story is a perfect example of why.
Yes, I absolutely adored the beginning and middle of this book, but the ending… This one actually made me tear up a bit. It was so charming and heart-warming and gave me all the warm fuzzies. The endings of the books in this series are everything. They just keep getting better and better.
I highly recommend this well-written, feel-good story. If you’ve read the others in the series, you’ll definitely want to read this one. If you haven’t read any of them, you should totally get started.
I am in awe of how cute this book was, oh my gosh!
Dillon barely goes home anymore, he lives his life focusing on his company in San Diego. One of the reasons he’s never home is because of the girl next door, the girl who broke his heart back in high school.
Sophia has lived next door to the Cunningham family all of her life and has loved Dillon for as long as she can remember. They were the best of friends until a misunderstanding at prom changed the path of their friendship. Now he avoids her like the plague and 6 year later Sophia wants to put a stop to it, to talk things out but he’s holding a grudge and it’s going to take some time.
Coming home for his brothers wedding he decided to do anything he possibly can to avoid her, his feelings are still there no matter the distance he put between them.
It’s been absolutely amazing watching this story unfold, watching the way these two communicate and easily falling in love with them. The amount of time these two lost because they weren’t adult enough to talk it out was insane to me but it is what it is. The whole 10 texts a day to Dillon with something unattractive about herself was so unique and I loved how these authors played it out, amazing.
How to loose a girl in 10 texts is the 4th book in the Digital Dating Book series and can be read as a standalone.
Now, I’m going to go check out the other 3 books and add them to my never ending tbr list.

How to Lose a Girl in 10 Texts is a sweet and funny story of second chances and fresh starts. A misunderstand in high school has kept best friends Dillon and Sophia at odds with each other for years, each too afraid of being hurt again reconnect. When they finally decide to risk their hearts in order to regain the closeness they once shared they discover even more.
I love friends to lover romances and the way Delancey Stewart and Marika Ray wrote this one was magical. I love each author’s writing separately but when they team up together their stories are extra special.
This is the fourth book in the series by Delancey Stewart and Marika Ray and it can be read as a standalone. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV. This may be my favorite book in the series, and I have liked them all a lot. Sophia and Dillon don’t get along, despite having grown up as best friends. A misunderstanding in high school changed their trajectory. I loved reading and learning their history and how they got to where they are. I absolutely adored the premise of this book. The way that Sophia uses the texts was genius to the plot. Dillon and Sophia end up with a sweet relationship based on friendship. There is no physical intimacy on the page in this one, but the feelings between the characters are strong and well-written. I loved revisiting the brothers and their loves along the way. Pam is given a bigger role in this story as she worries about her boy while also trying to find her won happiness. I am hoping we get to see her find a long-term love soon (hint, hint). The grand gesture includes nods to some of my favorite authors. I was smiling so hard as I read it that I was glad I was wearing a mask at work, so people didn’t think I had lost my mind. I would say that this has been a very successful collaboration between these two authors, and I hope they do more together in the future. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I loved it. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
Sophia and Dillon have a long history of friendship together since they grew up next door to each other but that all ended on Dillon's senior prom night and they haven't spoken since. Dillon has done his best to avoid her over the years which is fairly easy since he lives hundreds of miles away. He knew he was going to cross paths with her at his brother's wedding but was not prepared to talk to her and was heading back towards San Diego as quickly as he could.
Sophia wants nothing more than to clear the air with Dillon and move on with her life. She has also had feelings for this man most for what seems like forever but is to the point she wants closure on those feelings. She enlists the help of her bestie and is advised on a way to make her look unattractive to Dillon. Turns out what she is doing has the complete opposite affect on him.
This series by these two ladies just keeps getting better and better. The idea of the ten texts with little tidbits about herself in the hopes of making her seem less desirable to Dillon was so cute and the things that Sophia says about herself had my laughing more than usual. When these two finally cleared the air of the massive misunderstanding that had them not speaking to each other was great and from that point on the two of them together had my heart all warm and fuzzy. I couldn't get enough of Dillon and Sophia and I cannot wait to see what comes next in this series.
"I was the proverbial fish flip-flopping on the banks of the river, never getting anywhere because it belonged in the water. I sighed as the image took root in my mind. I was a stinky fish, flip-flopping through life and not getting anywhere. I didn’t want to be a stinky fish." - Sophia
Sophia lost her heart years ago.... To Dillon. Dillon, the boy next door. Dillon, the twin who was the only one Sophia could see... Dillon, the man who took her heart, and still held it... Even if he didn't want it.
"I realized with a flash that I’d always ache for this man. I’d always wish for a different ending. I’d always wish for what I could never have if I didn’t seek the closure my friend talked about. I needed that finality to move on. I needed him to finally talk to me. " - Sophia
""Just come home. For me. " Mom-guilt was seriously the very worst weapon ever invented. If we ever went to war again, we should forget missiles and tanks and figure out how to fire heavy barrages of mom-guilt upon the enemy." -Dillon
Dillon was dreading the trip. He'd moved many miles away years ago, trying to outrun his heartache, but Mom needed him. Needed him back home; home where he had left the woman who he couldn't forget, but didn't have...
"Ten days, ten texts, Soph. Can you do it?”" - Lauren
Sophia and Dillon; what a couple! Misunderstandings, forgiveness and starting over... And so much more!
Dillion and Sophia…they are my favorite couple in this innovative and engaging series! I love a good friends to lovers story, but this one was great because it involves a second chance as well. While relatively low on angst…the angry, mean kind…but filled with humor and family, watching these two individuals overcome too many years avoiding each other and finally embracing years of love for the other was such fun! The rest of their families, as well as a few other quirky characters from the series pop their heads into this one as well. Each book can be read as a stand-alone, so if you haven’t read the others, it’s okay to start here. But I’m confident you’ll want to enjoy the whole series, no matter which book you start with.
The Digital Dating series is one of the funniest I've ever read. From cluelessly adorable to irresistibly romantic, Stewart and Ray give the heart plenty of reasons to swoon. My emotions always have a blast with the Cunningham family. Sophia and Dillon are a laugh riot with a penchant for temptation that has addictive consequences.
This was another wonderful entry in a truly terrific series. This book and in fact this whole series, delivers skillfully crafted storylines that feature appealing tropes given a modern twist. This creates incredibly fun reads that manage to feel fresh and yet comfortable at the same time. I loved Sophia and Dillon's romance and fell hard for them. These two were easy to root for as they take your heart on one epic rollercoaster ride. You can expect plenty of deep emotions and lush feels as these two try to deal with their past, their present and those pesky and persistent feelings that just won't go away! Toss in mega handfuls of heart and humor and you have an irresistible combination that has your reading time passing very quickly and leaves you feeling swoony. I am independently posting a frank review.
I have loved, loved this whole series. The interweaving of traditional romance tropes with the modern complications of digital devices and social media was delicious perfection. But this book - phew - it was hands down emotionally the best story for me. It definitely gave me all the feels - the joy, the discomfort, the uncertainty, the fear, the regret, the angst, and the love were all palpable. I was not simply reading words on a page, I was right there living it with Dillon and Sophia and feeling all the feelings with them. Dillon and Sophia grew up together and a misunderstanding leading to an aborted prom date ruined their friendship and lead to six years of avoidance. But there are lingering feelings for both of them. Sophia is determined to get closure and prove Dillon’s not the one by sending ten texts proving he would never love her less than shiny parts. Thus begins their journey toward their second chance. There’s a little bit of everything on the path to Dillon and Sophia’s HEA - sweet moments, heart squeezing encounters, family support, painful pasts, and laugh out loud scenes. I mean jumping out of a car at a red light to avoid a conversation is next level crazy but also perfect for this story. I am a bit sad to see the series end - maybe there are Cunningham cousins somewhere we can marry off.
Last brother done and dusted! Another wonderful book in this series. 😍
I've been looking forward to Dillon's story since book one, and have been intrigued as to how the hinted issues between him and Sophia would work out. This book sure does answer those questions... and more!
Love Dillon! Wasn't sure I'd like him as much as I did (from his previous family interactions), but, ah... he's just wonderful. And broken. Poor guy had some Daddy issues to sort out. And Sophia? Such a beautiful soul. I enjoyed watching her journey, seeing her come out of her shell.
However, after all is said and done, this CAN'T be the last book in this series! What about Pam and Jacques? I appreciated (and am relieved by!) the hint at the end of the book saying this may not be the end of the Cunningham family. Phew!
This was so much fun. I loved the 10 texts, the cameos, even the side story of Pam and Jacques. Nothing over the top, guy falls for the girl next door back in the day, a misunderstanding and grand gestures, but it's light and fun and a great escape. I'm hoping there's a Christmas ish story next!
Loved this! A great addition to the series. The writing duo of Marika Ray and Delancey Stewart have brought a story filled with humor and love. I enjoyed this from beginning to end. Great read!
Book 4 of the Digital Dating Series and I’m hoping it’s not the last!
Finally, it’s Dillon Cunningham’s turn to get his issues with his childhood crush, Sophia, resolved! We’ve heard things here and there about Dillion and his prom date and now, 6 whole years later, he finally brings his wall down a bit. Sophia is 23 years old and trying to figure out adulting. She’s been to college but she’s living with her parents. Because of what happened with the prom and Dillon situation she’s kind of stalled and is having a difficult time overcoming what her perception of what happened. Dillon is running and will not speak to Sophia and she has tried. He has held a grudge since prom night. Things do thaw slowly and they are truly a cute couple. Dillon has a lot to balance in his work and personal life. I love this series and have enjoyed each book!
Y'all this was such a gem. This is my 2nd favorite of this series (yes, they can be read as standalone's, but make so much more sense if you read them all). These 2 are meant for each other, it just takes a lot to get there. Dillon is super focused on his career in San Diego and only returns home when absolutely necessary. He loves and misses his family, but not enough to face missing his father and dealing with Sophia. Sophia is an uncoordinated fish out of the water (you'll see what I did there), she has no direction and wants so badly to confront Dillion and put their messy history to bed. There is humor, forgiveness, confrontation, swimming, and the rest of the Cunningham family dynamics thrown in this lovely book. This simply can NOT be the end to this family. You'll have to read this gem in order to see what I mean.
These 2 lovely ladies knocked this out of the park. Okay, that's just me make an unnecessarily obvious statement.
I received an advanced copy of this lovely gem, and this review is that of my own opinion.
I absolutely adored Sophia and Dillon! I have absolutely LOVED this whole series but there was just something about Sophia and Dillon's story that just had me love them a tiny bit more!
Growing up Dillon and Sophia were really close, she was the girl next door, they were looking forward to going to prom together but a misunderstanding led to Sophia not turning up and Dillion in the dark not knowing why. Now he avoids her at all costs and focuses on his company in San Diego.
But enough is enough Sophia wants to hash things out, but with Dillon running or jumping at every chance he gets she needs help!
It's been such a warm, fun, light hearted series to read, I have enjoyed every single minute of it. I really hope Marika and Delancey decide to write another series together as I know it will be every bit as amazing as this one.
How to Lose a Girl in 10 Texts by Marika Ray and Delancey Stewart is a fun, cute second chance/former friends romance. This book can be read as a standalone novel but it is the fourth book in the Digital Dating series and I recommend reading the series in order for the best, most in depth understanding of the character dynamics. I highly recommend this series.
Both of these authors are awesome and in my Automatic One-Click List.
This book is A-MAZ-ING!!! 🤩🤩🤩 This may be my favorite book in the series, although they are all pretty awesome, and top my list of favorite books 🥰🥰🥰 Expect more laughs and love and everything else this series has brought into your life!!
How to Lose a Girl in 10 Texts is the fourth book released in the Digital Dating Series...written by authors Marika Ray and Delancey Stewart. The series is about the Cunningham family...focusing on the four brothers. Each book can be read as a stand-alone...however, I truly recommend the entire series. In this new release, readers are brought back into the life of the Cunningham family as Dillon's story is told.
"...my crush on him went back to my earliest childhood memories. It was built into my DNA and I wasn't quite sure how to extract him without altering who I was at my core." -Sophia Whittington
Sophia has lived next door to the Cunningham family her entire life...and she has been in love with Dillon Cunningham for as far back as her memories could take her. Unfortunately, after a huge mix-up over a text message, the prom date that was supposed to be the night of her dreams never happened. Now six years later, Sophia needs closure...and what better way to achieve that than to finally talk to Dillon when he returns home for the wedding of his brother, Boston. The only problem is that Dillon avoids her whenever they are in the same room together, so this will not be as easy as she hopes.
Dillon has returned back to his childhood home for his brother Boston's wedding. Being back in Solano Creek means that he will have to find a way to avoid the girl next door...the girl he once thought could be THE ONE, but instead she was the one that broke his heart into a million pieces. Living in San Diego helps because he no longer has to avoid Sophia on a daily basis, but the distance has not erased the feelings he still has for her. He is determined to get through this visit home by avoiding her as much as possible. However, that is not easy because he ends up needing a ride home from the wedding reception, and Sophia is the one that offers to drive him home. What could possibly go wrong?
The story that unfolds is absolutely amazing. I have loved every story in this series, and this one is no exception to that. Dillon and Sophia are two people that you instantly fall in love with and you want to see them get their happily ever after. So much time was lost because Dillon and Sophia did not talk about the miscommunication over prom. Both were so hurt by something that could have been cleared up if they just took the time to actually talk about it. What starts out as a way to get closure for Sophia, quickly turns into a scheme by the Cunningham family to get Dillon and Sophia together. I thought the advice from Lauren (Sophia's best friend) was unique. Lauren told Sophia to send one text a day for ten days revealing something unattractive about herself to Dillon. Little did either one know, but instead of driving Dillon away, he was actually intrigued by the texts because he learned things he did not know about Sophia. Instead of being pushed away, Dillon actually finds the text messages endearing.
Overall, this was just a heartwarming and clean romance, filled with fun, family, friendships...and of course, love. It was great being able to see what the other members of the Cunningham family have been up to, as well as seeing the possible romance blossom between Pam and Jacques. I have enjoyed every book in this series, and I am looking forward to the fifth book which will finally tell Pam's well deserved story.
I would like to thank Marika Ray for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. My views are my own, and are in no way influenced by anyone else.
Since I started reading Marika Ray and Delancey Stewart's Digital Dating series I have been obsessed with the Cunningham family and all the hilarity that follows them. While reading How to Lose a Girl in 10 Texts I was filled with sadness with what I thought was the last Cunningham book but then I found out that there will be one more book for mama Cunningham, Pam and I instantly loved this book infinitely more because it wasn't the last one. That aside I think this book is truly my favorite one because it had some of my favorite troupes with childhood friends turned lovers, childhood crushes, misunderstandings about their feelings and the guy pushing the girl away because he isn't good enough. I can't wait for book five, so until then I'll just reread the first four books. Sophie Whittington has always loved Dillion Cunningham, ever since she was a little girl, and in high school she thought he finally felt the same about her when he asked her to prom. But then she found a text message that he sent that said he only asked her out of pity and her dream of him loving her was destroyed and she ended up standing him up for prom. Dillion Cunningham always loved Sophie Whittington, he even asked her to prom to finally confess his feelings to her. But when she stands him up for prom and Dillion makes the decision to never forgive Sophie. It's been years since that incident and no matter what Sophie does to try and get Dillion to talk to her, he does everything he can to avoid her. He even jumped out of a moving car to get away from her and to avoid talking to her. So in a moment of weakness Sophie tries to pretend that his twin brother, Dalton, is Dillion so she can hash everything out with him and can finally move on with her life. But when Dalton finds out what happened between them he decides to team up with his mother to hatch a plan to force Dillion to talk with Sophie. Dillion is only back in Solano Creek because his mother claims that the family winery isn't doing well and that she hasn't been feeling well. While he isn't sure he believes her, he doesn't want to take the chance of her being really sick and her passing suddenly like his father did. So when he shows up at the winery and finds that Sophie is his mothers new assistant he is more than a little suspicious. But as he finally allows himself to finally have that talk with Sophie and realizes what happened between them all those years ago he can't help but feel responsible for the misunderstanding between them. Can these two stubborn people put their pasts behind them to see if they have a future together?
It starts of right away with Sophia trying to talk with Dillon. These two have a past and it’s clear that Dillon hates Sophia. With some help from Dillon’s twin brother, Sophia is finally on the way of getting a closure with her childhood crush so she can move on. Her best friend also gives her a tip, where Sophia will be totally honest and let Dillon see all her bad sides, and in the same time see the same in him. It turns out that what happened all those years ago was a misunderstanding, and Dillon kind of like all that is Sophia.
This book was very very cute. For me this is a bit too much. I liked the beginning, and was intrigued by what had happened all those years ago? My heart actually broke for Sophia. It was a big mess, and totally unnecessary but worked well in this story.
The ending. It was like a Hollywood-movie 🙈🤣 This never works for me, but that’s just my taste 🤷🏻♀️
Over all a good read!
- No cheating - No OW/OM drama - Dual POV - Epilogue 3 months later - H pushes h away - Triggers: grieving parents - Interconnected stand-alone (the brothers have their own book)
How to Lose a Girl in 10 Texts finally gives us the story of the youngest Cunningham brother, Dillon, and childhood friend/next door neighbor, Sophia. This story is sweet and funny and can be enjoyed as a stand alone- but having read the other 3 books in this series- the reconciliation between these two feels so much sweeter since Dillon's dislike for Sophia has been teased and peeks were given in the other brothers' books.
This was such a cute story- Sophia is struggling to figure out this whole adulting thing and still harbors unresolved issues with her childhood crush and heartbreaker, Dillon. But this girl is the absolute sweetest and I love her and her uncoordinated awkward self. Dillon between missing his father and his own unresolved issues with the girl next door, he hardly ever comes home to Solano Creek unless his presence is essential. Dillon is serious and way too focused on work, but also has this core kindness to him that when he allows it out it makes him all kinds of swoony.
How to Lose a Girl has all the charm and fun of the other books in the Digital Dating series but it's also the most heartbreaking to read. Sophia and Dillon both harbor such hurt from each other. Of course the answer was for them to actually talk to each other and be honest but we know how these things go! But Dillon still harbors so much pain from his fathers passing that he hadn't addressed and then add in his reaction to the possibility of Pam and Jacques being more than just friends that my heart hurt a little for him.
I loved Dillon's "grand gesture" to Sophia when it came time to turn things around but it wasn't my favorite out of all of the others- don't get me wrong it was totally sweet and perfect for them and their relationship. Though I loved how some of my other favorite authors had little name cameos thrown into the mix, it definitely gave me a good laugh.
All in all this was another great collaboration between Delancey Stewart and Marika Ray- and I for one would not be mad if we were to go back to Solano Creek again in the future!
This is my first time reading this series and these authors. At first I had to re-read the first chapter a few times to figure out the characters in the story but beyond that, this story easily stood alone. This is a second chance romance with the girl next door and some high drama from high school separating Sophia and Dillon.
I did not really like Dillons character when I first meet him. He runs away from Sophie. She wants to talk it out so she can move away from her love for him and he won't even take a drive with her. That is until his mom and brothers come up with a plan.
The plan was kinda kooky and funny and I actually loved the plot and how they get D back into town. Sophie's plan to get over D with ten texts were really adorable as she tries to make them both not like each other anymore.
This story was quirky, fun and a light story about moving on from the past with two characters that are hung up on each other, even six years later.
I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
DNF at chapter 15. I was trying to hang on but fuck it life is too short. The first book was fun. The second book’s fella was excellent. Robin is the best part of all the books. But that’s about it for me. ✌🏻
This was a quick, fun story that I read in just a few hours. I came in late to the series and this story makes me want to go back and read about the other Cunningham brothers.
Dillon Cunningham and Sophia Whittington grew up together and were the best of friends until one misunderstanding split them apart. Several years later, Sophia needs closure and takes the advice of her psychologist BFF and decides to send Dillon ten texts disclosing her not-so-positive attributes hoping to drıve Dillon out of her heart and mind. Except the texts don’t have quite the result she was looking for.
If you’re looking for something light hearted and entertaining, this is the romance for you. It's sweet and witty, charming and tender, and guaranteed to put a smile on your face and a happy sigh in your heart.
Sophia is determined to get closure from her high school crush Dillon Cunningham breaking her heart. When she tries to approach him at his brothers wedding, Dillon gives her the brush off. With the help of the Cunningham family they concoct a story to get Dillon back into town. Worried about his mother’s health and the family business Dillon rushes back to help fix things. Except he sees Sophia differently once the high school misunderstanding is revealed. Dillon and Sophia find their way to each with the help of their family and friends. I loved this story so much! I like how the characters from the previous books have a role in the story line and mama Cunningham is still up to her old tricks. I hope the next story is about her and Jacques relationship!
Dillon and Sophia have a lot of history, both good and bad. But a disaster on prom night has kept them apart for several year. When they meet up again, Sophia wants to clear the air and try to resolve their issues. What will happen when they both come clean about the crushes they both had in the teenage years?
I liked that Sophia is trying to figure out her life - she is young but not 100% sure about where she is going. But she knows she will get there, hopefully with someone by her side.
I have read the other books in this series and loved them all. This would be considered a “sweet” romance so suitable for older teens as well as adults.
This series is my go to for feel good reads and this one was probably the funniest of the series but also had the most feels! The idea of Sophia sending texts with her bad habits to see if she could scare Dillon away along with all of the typical Cunningham family shenanigans had me laughing out loud at several parts. While it was a quick read and relatively light, I really felt for Dillon and what he goes through from losing his dad.
Dillon is a serious guy that loves hard, and Sophia is the funny, girl next door that is perfect for him. They are childhood friends turned enemies because of a misunderstanding, but after they work through that, I loved how comfortable they were with each other and in their relationship. This a closed door book, so mainly just kissing scenes between these two.
I don’t want to give anything away, but I absolutely loved the ending and how Dillon pulls out all the stops to win Sophia back! It was kind of a grand finale for the series, but I hope it’s not the last of this crazy family and their friends!
