Why immigration happens and what it means to be an immigrant.
How do we convey to kids what immigration really means? How do we explain all the difficult decisions people make when they choose to leave their home country to start over somewhere new? This book will help! It breaks down many of the complexities of immigration while reminding us all that no matter where we come from, we are all human and should be treated as such.

Yes! Yes a million times! I think every conservative a-hole should be required to read this because I'm so sick of having to tell them that coming to the US "legally" is not as simple as filling out an application and that's it. It is a long process that takes a very long time. It doesn't just happen. I'm glad they talked about that in this book. This book is really great!

A fantastic introduction to the topic of immigration. Wonderfully written.
Includes information about why people may immigrate, some of the challenges they face, and a bit about the immigration application process. Also points out the harmfulness of using dehumanizing language to describe people.
Promotes kindness, understanding, and listening to others when they tell their story. I also loved the emphasis that someone's legal status does not define their worth.
Includes definitions of words used throughout the text that children may not be familiar with such as advocate, undocumented, and legal status.
A great resource for talking about immigration with children to help them better understand this complex topic.
