I really loved how Carrie poured her heart into this book.
The descriptions are fantastic. Even though I've never been to the Straits of Mackinac with the vivid descriptions of this small town in this book and some of her others I just know I would love going for a visit there.
My mother, grandmother and I were close and I really enjoyed reading the multi-generational story of the three women and getting to know their personalities in this book.
Each of the women has her own life, her own story but yet they are so intertwined as well.
Fictional characters or not I felt the need to pray for these families as they go through life struggling with their problems but yet emerging renewed and refreshed through God's love and their faith.
Very inspirational book I really enjoyed!

If I could have given this book more than a 5, I would have. This has to be my favorite book of the many I have read by Carrie Fancett Pagels. Don't sit down to read this book without a box of kleenex beside you as you will shed both happy and sad tears. I am not a huge contemporary fan, but this book captured me heart and soul from the first page until the end.

First of all, it is once again set on Pagels' happy place (mine too with only 1 visit), Mackinac Island. Three generations of women: Dawn (grandmother), Tamara (daughter), and Jaycie (granddaughter) are vacationing together at grandma's cottage on Mackinac Island. Each is dealing with a personal problem that is preventing them from moving on in their lives, and each is touched during this time by someone who helps them move ahead: a husband, a doctor, and a long time friend.

This book deals with everyday problems that so many people face, and Pagels depicts, so well, how family and friends along with a strong faith can help us deal with them. I hope there will be a sequel as I would love to know what lies ahead for each of the wonderful women. Thanks Carrie for an amazing and inspirational contemporary novel that just made it to the top of my 2021 favorites list!

Butterfly Cottage in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is a summer retreat for Dawn, her daughter Tamara and granddaughter Jaycie. Mackinac Island is a magical place to explore and find respite for the summer. Told in alternating voices of the three generations, the story is realistic. The characters are drawn from real life circumstances and they have real life consequences.
Dawn has a solid faith and an enduring relationship with her husband who will soon join her after rehab is finished on his recent surgery. Tamara has a health concern that she is keeping under wraps in order to enjoy being with her family. Jaycie has finished an internship and is contemplating her next career step.
I really enjoyed the development of the characters and the long history of the other inhabitants of the area.
Mackinac is a magical place. I loved all the references. It reminded me of a trip I took there many years ago. There was a touch of whimsy that fit nicely into the story. The book tackled some serious issues but the theme was look to God, listen to Him and rely on Him to see you through.
A wonderful story that I will re read when I want to re visit Mackinac Island.

Wonderful characters, realistic situations, and a fantastic setting....what more can you ask for when looking for a great read? How about a book with a healthy dose of hope and faith thrown in? Butterfly Cottage has all of this, and it's a lovely story that you'll remember long after you've read the last sentence. A mother, daughter, and granddaughter have many serious issues to deal with, and even though they hesitate to share them with each other, they all agree on one thing. A summer at Butterfly Cottage on Mackinac Island is exactly what they all need!

Author Carrie Fancett Pagels shares the lives of three generations of women, as they travel their individual life journeys, and she completely captures all of their emotions by showing each of their points of view in alternating chapters. This isn't a light, fluffy romance because there are heavy topics such as pancreatic cancer, cheating husbands, and alcoholism, and Pagels vividly projects all of the fear, hurt, and disappointment. She does, however, buffer them by weaving a powerful faith message throughout the story. Dawn, Tamara, and Jaycie find hope for brighter futures by learning to trust in God and the plan that He has for their lives. There may even be romance on the horizon!

Butterfly Cottage is a heartwarming, inspiring book and I recommend it to all who enjoy contemporary Christian fiction.

Butterfly Cottage by Carrie Fancett Pagels is the most delightful contemporary Christian novel that will warm your heart as you follow one summer through the eyes of three generations of women.
There is a wonderful bond between grandmother, daughter and granddaughter. Their love radiates outwards to encompass the reader as they share life in the family cottage.
We witness the partnership and love of a fifty year old marriage. The couple bounce dialogue off each other and are as much in love as when they first got together.
In contrast we see a marriage explode and unravel, hurting the innocent party.
The reader sees the power of God to heal the hurts in mind and body. “There’s no problem too deep that God can’t fix.” We just need to let Him into our lives. God longs for us to draw close to Him. He is in the business of healing, working through both miracles and medicine. We see the importance of seeking medical help when needed.
God longs for us to commune with Him. He is always just a prayer away. “Dawn closed her eyes and asked God for help.”
Sometimes in life we pull away from God. We will always need Him but we do not always recognize this. “I needed God. You do too.”
God is the God who can redeem our lives. He can and will restore the years the locusts have eaten.
There is the theme of forgiveness. It is not always easy to do but we can lean on God and forgive with His help and move forward.
All the characters were well drawn, realistic and welcoming. I felt included in their embrace. Carrie Fancett Pagels is marvellous in her depth of detail and her ability to steer my emotional response – there were two characters who certainly did not elicit warm feelings from me.
Due to the wonderful descriptions I ‘walked’ my way through the action, experiencing the beauty of the landscapes.
Carrie Fancett Pagels writes fabulous books that I always love. Butterfly Cottage is perfectly charming and will leave you smiling.

This is a contemporary fiction set in a beautiful surrounding as the picture depicts. It is a story of family issues that deal with the heart. Family relationships and situations that can cause feelings of loss as the family comes together from different places and converge to the family cottage at the Straits of Mackinac.
This is a different story for this author that was very enjoyable and I love the author's beautiful descriptions of this special place. The author has a wonderful way with words and this book will keep you reading. You will want to know how all things turn out! The characters are very interesting and will capture your heart. I recommend this heartwarming book.

I have been following author Carrie Fancett Pagels since she first started writing and her books have always been more to me than just an enjoyable read. During this journey I have come to realize Ms. Pagels’ love for Mackinac Island, Michigan flows from deep in her heart, right onto the pages of her books.

Butterfly Cottage had my emotions all over the place. I’ve loved all of Carrie’s books but this one spoke to my heart so many times that I continued to reach for my tissues. The characters and storyline enticed me to continue reading just to see if the storms of life each one encountered could turn out to be as beautiful as the flowers and butterflies on Mackinac Island on an enchanting summer day.

Thank you, Carrie, for sharing your heart with us in what I’m sure will be an award-winning novel. If it were possible, I would give this story a 10-star review.

I love all of Carrie Fancett Pagels books. With each book that comes out I say that’s the one that is at the top..until the next book is released! I know I’ve repeated this statement but it’s so true.

Butterfly Cottage is filled with a little adventure, sweet romance, family relationships, and a whole lot of faith. One minute you are laughing and the next you are grabbing your tissues. Three generations of women vacation together in the family cottage located in Mackinaw City. Each are facing challenging issues and although initially they try to keep face them on their own they come together. Well-written and engaging, Butterfly Cottage will keep you turning the pages.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Three generations of women all in stages of healing--physically, emotionally, or spiritually--or all three!

This journey of life is meant to be shared. The road is long with many holes to traverse. It's tough, but tougher alone. God does not promise to make it easy, but He does promise to be there with us.

Butterfly Cottage provides a peaceful backdrop to "do" life. It inspires me to make myhome that kind of place where loved ones can rest and heal. Thanks, Carrie, for so many reminders of God's blessings.

There’s no problem too deep that God can’t fix it.

Tammy, Teacher of the Year for her county, is suffering from a condition that remains unknown, a relationship that is fraught with difficulties and the need for peace. Dawn, her mother, appears to have her own health issues that require some decisions to be made. Jaycie, the granddaughter, is struggling with losses that bring all kinds of questions with them. Can they possibly learn that seeking to forgive others as well as themselves will make all the difference?

The incredible detail helps the reader to visualize the gorgeous Mackinac Island, riding a bike, walking the streets and almost tasting the treats. One cottage in an idyllic setting, three generations all dealing with choices, together in a place of retreat and healing. Add a mistaken identity, misunderstandings, and you have a story you won’t lay aside until you have finished. Will three generations of one family realize their dreams and aspirations?

An ARC was received through Hearts Overcoming Press. These impressions and comments are my own and were in no way solicited.

Butterfly Cottage by Carrie Fancett Pagels

Carrie Pagels takes us back to her beloved Mackinac Island where a mother-Dawn, her daughter-Tamara, and granddaughter-Jaycie, spend their summer together at the family’s Straits of Mackinac cottage. However, their vacation is not as restful as they had hoped. Each woman is experiencing personal problems that they have not shared with each other, at first. We are taken on their journeys as they learn the importance of sharing with family and friends and seeking God to guide them as they deal with their problems.

The storyline deals with some serious problems in a sensitive way: alcoholism, cancer and infidelity. Life changing decisions, hope, forgiveness, family relationships, love, strong faith and seeking God in all areas of life help them (and us) deal with those problems. There are moments that had me chuckling and in tears (happy and sad tears). I enjoy the spiritual elements woven within the storyline and the budding romances.

I don’t usually read contemporary fiction, however, Butterfly Cottage captured me from the first, especially since it is set in Mackinac Island; a place I have never visited except through the pages of books that Carrie Pagels weaves so well. A heartwarming story.

~I purchased an e-book copy and as a Beta reader I received a PDF ARC copy and paperback copy of this book from the author/publisher (no monetary gain were exchanged), this is my honest review~

4.5 stars but rounded up to 5 stars since I can’t specify 4.5 stars here. Read via Kindle.

I was engaged in this book quickly and the characters felt like friends. I loved the community and all the interesting places. The three generations of grandmother, mother, and daughter was very heartwarming.

I appreciated learning about what a Whipple procedure is, and the dangers. The information about alcoholics not psychologically maturing while they keep drinking was a huge revelation.

I am personally not a fan of dating while separated and I didn’t understand the mysterious tea shop encounters.

I’m looking forward to reading Lilac Cottage and the third book once it comes out.

I have read historical fiction by Ms. Pagels in the past, but I believe this is her first forray into women's fiction. Enter the multigenerational family of Dawn, Tamera and Jaycie who are vacationing on Mackinac Island for the summer.
I enjoyed the interaction of the women and the warm relationships between them. The storyline hinges on Dawn, the grandmother, who is contemplating retiring from her travel business and apparently has some minor medical issues. Tamara, the Mom, suddenly has shocking news from her husband as well as a serious medical diagnosis. Jaycie, the granddaughter, is contemplating a master's degree in archeology. The dynamics of the women are enjoyable, and you really want to root for them as the ups and downs of life come crashing in on this family. Jaycie is my favorite character, and I admired her deep contemplation of where life was leading her and what she was truly seeking for a career. It was refreshing to see someone so young really give such deep deliberation into to her future.
Since the rest of the author's novels and novellas are historical, I would definitely say that she does a heart tugging job with women's fiction. I will definitely be reading the next one that she publishes!

Three generations...One summer together...

I'll be honest upfront. Women's Fiction is not a genre that I make a regular habit of reading, though there have been a number of exceptions. However, Butterfly Cottage just happens to be a Carrie Fancett Pagels novel which means it's one that I wanted to read.

Butterfly Cottage was different from pretty much every other Carrie Fancett Pagels novel that I've read. The most noticeable difference, of course, is that it's contemporary and not historical romance. But even her 'voice' has changed a little bit for this book. She's a tad more blunt, spent less time on romance elements, and her characters are even more flawed. But those differences are all in the best way possible, it's refreshing, honest, and skillfully portrays three generations of women in different phases of life.

As I'm sure you can tell, I really enjoyed this book. I laughed, I got so mad I wanted to yell at people who are only characters and are not real, and I let myself become invested in their fictional lives. Whether you are into women's fiction or not, whether you are in your twenties or forties or sixties or even more, whether you are married or single, I can wholeheartedly recommend Butterfly Cottage to you. Carrie Fancett Pagels's novel is all about the messiness, the unexpectedness, and the beauty of life...something that I think we all, no matter our generation, know a little bit about...

A summer to remember

Three generations of women (mother, daughter, granddaughter) come together for the summer to their Butterfly Cottage on Mackinac Island. Each is going through their own transition, each questions their future, and each, with God’s help, hope to find their way.

Intertwined with faith, this story has multiple POVs set apart with name headings and starts off a little bit rough. In some of the dialogue, I still had a bit of a struggle orienting myself as to who was speaking/thinking but once I got comfortable with the author’s style, I enjoyed knowing what each woman was thinking and going through. The storyline includes several unexpected plot twists and really pulls together about 60% of the way through. It is a summer read with a lot more substance.

This book is suitable for teens and older. Subjects include cancer, divorce and making life decisions. There are no descriptive intimate scenes and no bad language. Since it has three generational characters, the story can resonate with any age reader.

I received this book from the author with no expectation of a positive review.

Having read a number of books by Carrie Fancett Pagels and being a Michigander who loves Mackinac Island, I was doubly looking forward to reading Butterfly Cottage. I was not disappointed. It was a win-win all the way around. Butterfly Cottage is a well-told story full of wonderful prose and a few twists and turns that kept my interest high--and of course a sweet romance too. I loved the characters--a mom, a daughter, and a granddaughter and the men in their lives, each with their own circumstances and decisions to make--whether it be career changes, medical or relational issues. The author quickly draws the reader into the story with this charming story. I wish I could spend a summer on the Island with these characters. Theirs was a summer of changes, changes that tested their faith, and yet hope and love prevailed. Readers who enjoy contemporary romance and stories about families with a setting on a beautifully unique island will not want to miss Butterfly Cottage.

Butterfly Cottage by Carrie Fancett Pagels
Butterfly Cottage is a heartwarming story about three generations of women who spend their summer together at the family’s Straits of Mackinac cottage in Michigan. A grandmother approaching retirement, her daughter struggling with serious health issues and her marriage, and the granddaughter who is trying to figure out her love life and career path support each other with love, compassion, and understanding.

As I was drawn into their lives, I found something relatable about each woman. I hurt for them, and I cheered for them as they faced their individual challenges. The author created believable characters, and by the end of the book, I felt a part of their family.

This story of strong personal ties and friendships took me on a journey of ups and downs, and then it brought me to a soft landing with a satisfying ending.

"Butterfly Cottage" by Carrie Fancett Pagels coves issues such as alcoholism, cancer, and infidelity. This novel is about a grandmother, a mother and a granddaughter. I felt drawn into the story from the beginning till the end.

I really can't pick a favorite of the three because they all tugged at my heartstrings. I wanted all three to have a happy ever . You know, you don't want me to tell you if they did or not because you want to read and find out for yourself.

This story is fiction but "Real Life" . I know this story has happen to a family or two.

If you like real life stories that makes you want to jump into the pages and hug the characters and tell them you understand what they are going through and it will be okay eventually you'll love "Butterfly Cottage" by Carrie Fancett Pagels.

I think this novel would make a great movie if the script writers followed the book exactly as it written.

"Light evening breeze drifted toward the house from Lake Huron, carrying the scent of daylilies, roses, and hydrangea as Jaycie walked back from her favorite "pocket park" to what almost seemed like home. She smiled when she spied a cluster of milkweeds that her grandparents had planted there. Sure enough, two monarch butterflies flitted past, en route to a nearby cluster of daisies. How amazing that the little pollinators had come back from the brink of death."

The Charbonneau women all need a fresh start. At the encouragement of her husband, Dawn is considering retiring, but she is not sure that she is ready to slow down. Tamara loves teaching, but she wishes her home life was better. Jaycie needs an internship, but she is not sure where to start. When all three women are able to go to Butterfly Cottage for the summer, they may find that togetherness and trusting God is what they need the most.

I would consider this book to be women's fiction with a touch of romance. A great start to the series.

Butterfly Cottage is author Carrie Fancett Pagels's first foray into contemporary women's fiction and I must say I'm duly impressed at the ease in which she switched genres! Set on beautiful, scenic Mackinac Island, Ms. Pagels has intricately crafted a tender story as delightful as its lovely cover—as three generations of women impulsively decide to spend their summer together at the family's cottage in Michigan.

Although this novel includes some gritty issues such as alcoholism, cancer, and infidelity, there are many witty, laugh out loud moments as well! I was totally enchanted by each genuine, multi-faceted character...well, except for the few I wanted to pinch more than once. But as this novel is all about forgiveness, I withheld myself and prayed for them! lol

Full of wisdom, spiritual insights, and a few budding romances (mustn't forget that!)—Butterfly Cottage is a beautifully descriptive book guaranteed to cause the reader to shed a few tears and emit some unladylike guffaws as well! Highly recommend!

Heartwarming.

Butterfly Cottage is a wonderfully written story about some very strong and courageous women. There is so much heart in this tale, that you feel for the characters and what they are going through. I admire Ms. Pagels for being able to write this story amidst the loss of so many loved ones.
You know you are reading a great story when you find yourself praying for the characters....you know they are fictional, yet they seem so real. And the way the author describes some of the locations makes you want to visit those places....or live there!
I highly recommend this book and any others by this author.

When I first heard about this book, I loved the idea of 3 generations of women spending the summer together. All three were facing changes in their lives. Even so, they were able to be there and support each other. As well as turning to each other, all three turned to God for support and learned to listen more to his leading. This was a powerful and emotional book, as well as being very entertaining. I also loved how Mrs. Pagels was able to honor her mother’s last wish with this story. I would definitely recommend this book.

What an uplifting story! Three generations of women—grandmother Dawn, daughter Tamara and granddaughter Jacie—all meet up for a summer on Mackinac Island. The scenery was lovely, their challenges very real, and together they draw strength to rise up. There’s a strong theme of being comforted by God in times of trouble, and each of the characters and their circles of supporting characters (and there were a lot of them to keep straight) help bring about all of the beautiful changes that give them wings to soar. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and was under no obligation to write a review.
