FEBRUARY 26, 2023: I’m so sorry to say, but DON’T BOTHER (unless the third book is already out but the second book was still not worth it). I don’t think I’ve ever been frustrated like this before with a series. The delay of these books is actually unprofessional. The author accidentally published a ROUGH DRAFT of the book and it was not worth the long long long wait. She has yet to publish the final copy and it’s been over a year. It’s also been about a year since she was supposed to release Book 3. She’s been having issues with Amazon for 2 years and countless people have suggested moving to another platform. I, along with many people, was willing to pay outside of Kindle Unlimited for the book, but now… sorry no. Read at your discretion i guess. I used to waste my time checking for updates every week, then every month, then every couple months… and nothing. Maybe I just lack knowledge in the publishing world, but why can’t she just publish on another platform, especially if it’s been 2 years?

Update/Review — November 24, 2021:
I just finished this book. I was hoping to change the rating after I’ve read the book but I think it’ll stay the same. Yes I know I said I would wait for the third one but I’m not sure I can even read the third one. I loved E.M. Snow’s Angelview series, but I’m not sure about this one. The amount of times I wanted to reach over my phone and shake Josslyn … too many. Josslyn… girl, you’re an idiot. “can’t trust anyone BUT I’ll trust the same people who tricked me into this situation in the first place!” Usually when someone warns you (and I mean about 80% of the book was her being warned), you don’t stay. Idk how to feel about this especially because I don’t think I actually saw Josslyn and Phoenix’s relationship grow into something… like they barely communicated at all throughout the book or at least in a way that didn’t involve toxicity. I don’t know how this relationship is going to go but right now it’s going nowhere.

Long long wait

Really long wait for this book and was so excited to read it and it was so so disappointing :( Just alot of ramblings really and did not go anywhere. Finished on a terrible cliff hanger aswell. Not even an exciting cliffhanger. Unfortunately I won't be waiting round for book 3 this time.

Hmm. I’m giving this three stars because I read the first book and think this series, and Joss/Phoenix, really have potential. To get the cons out of the way and , warning, some mild spoilers ahead: barely any movement in the Joss/Phoenix relationship beyond what we got in the first book and the interaction we did get was, as another reviewer put it, toxic. I think this book really suffers from the readers getting very little to no insight as to what Phoenix is thinking or feeling. Josslyn is supposed to be the conduit to that but she spends the majority of the book repeating the same scenario over and over again- someone bullies her; she fights with Phoenix; she fights with her brother; someone tells her to stay away from Phoenix. Literally pages and pages of the same conversation- it’s limiting and adds no new information to the other characters, not to mention the readers who are left with more questions than answers. You want me to root for the male hero? I need to know who he is beyond a stereotypical bully who treats his love interest like crap.

I actually like Phoenix and think he could be a fascinating character but I need something to work with. I think that last real interaction with Joss/Phoenix- towards the end where he finally let his guard down and they both experience something different in their relationship- was the best part of the whole book. I wish we'd gotten more of that sooner because it would have made the moment that more meaningful. I think the whole book would have been exceptionally better if we got more of those moments throughout and not just that scene. Just Phoenix expressing- in some way- what Joss means to him. I’m really hoping the third book expands on that more because, like I said, Joss/Phoenix do have chemistry and could be so much more than what we’ve gotten in this book.

Anyway, looking forward to the third installment and hoping we get a lot more action, more meaningful Joss/Phoenix interaction and more development of the characters overall

I really wanted to like Josslyn and lawd knows I've tried but my gosh she's so dumb. I never read someone who's so naive and mind you Mallory was many levels of dumb in her books but Josslyn takes the cake.

Josslyn has been warned many times and yet continues to do dumb shit. I have to remind myself these are teenagers so common sense won't come easily for them. Then I'm thinking she grew up in tough areas, Ghost is her brother who is as tough as they come yet she's this dumb??

She was literally told Phoenix used her and played her entire time including taking her virginity and this chic continues to sleep with him? Gives him the SD card anyway? Then is so concerned about his parents who are bad people anyway?! I personally think Easton is part of the people who kidnapped Phoenix's parents and is why he gets crazy when they talk.

Then lets talk about the bullying she tolerates. Not one time does she stand up for herself and continues to coward away? 😤 only one time does she finally punch her former bff.

I don't really feel any connection between Phoenix and Josslyn at all. I have zero clue why she thinks he may love her when he's done absolutely nothing to show that. In fact he pretty much shows he doesn't really care for her. I think her brother is correct saying she has Stockholm syndrome. She keeps sticking around trying to force him to care for her. It's obvious he uses sex to make her think he cares then leaves her like a booty call and she continues to the same cycle over and over again. I don't get it.

I really do like Ghost. I think he's the most sincere one throughout the series.

It’s boring and repetitive

First time writing a bad review but it had to be done. I love the author and the story line seems interesting but this book is very boring. First, I would like to get Phoenix’s POV. Second the story technically doesn’t start until the end of the book. Josslyn is very annoying. Her dialogue with Jasper was very frustrating, she waits all this time to see him but when she does, she doesn’t give him the opportunity to answer his questions. Overall I’m very disappointed with this book. Hopefully the next book redeems itself. This book had so much potential.

This has so many spelling and grammar mistakes it reads like a draft.
I’ve literally read fan fictions with better bones than this. She could’ve easily cut this book down and made the first one like 100 pages longer as it would’ve made a much more concise story and the cliff hanger would’ve had more impact.

Josslyn must’ve had a lobotomy or something between books because why would she let Phoenix gaslight her and then say her brother is manipulative. All the shit with Alaric as well uhh

This installment was stretched so thin. It's a 2.5-3 star. I was disappointed. The story barely moved forward and just went in repetitive circles, much of it the inner ramblings of Joss and her justifying why she couldn't leave Phoenix. One good thing is that Phoenix doesn't become a sappy lovesick puppy dog for Joss as I'd feared at the end of the first book. He stays an alphahole. Hooray!!! Also this story is Joss's POV only which was good for keeping Phoenix mysterious and brooding. Joss and Phoenix's interactions are disappointingly limited.

The story picks up with Joss having a discussion with Mallory and her half-bro Saint. She decides to return to the mansion against their advice. Joss goes through tremendously tedious and repetitive self reflection justifying her actions. Joss finds out her mom was raped by Saint's dad, Jameson so she shares a mom with Jasper and a dad with Saint.

Reina turns up mysteriously at the Halloween party and says she doesn't remember her kidnapping. But later, Reina tells Joss that she remembers bits and pieces and that she cut the brakes on her dad's car because she was angry he had an affair with her best friend. But her mom died in the car too and Reina says Phoenix could blackmail her with this info. Reina also tells Joss that she knows Joss has been speaking to Mallory.

Joss argues and hooks up with Phoenix a couple of times. Her former best friend videos them together and shares it with the school. She and Reina confront Margaret about it. Then Jasper finally appears and takes her to meet Saint where they discuss giving Phoenix the list Jasper stole in return for Joss. But Joss refuses to go with the plan citing the return of the Townsends as the reason she needs to return to the mansion. Jasper tries to talk her out of it and get her out of the mansion but she refuses. Joss gives Phoenix the usb she stole from Jasper and he goes to try and free his parents. He sends Joss a text that she's done and should pack up and go. But Joss is confused and stays to talk to him.

Stuck without a ride, Alaric drives Joss home but goes the wrong way. When questioned he tells her he's working for the bad guys who no longer just want the usb but also Joss in exchange for Reina...who Alaric fake kidnapped to throw ppl off him. He tells Joss he warned her to leave but she didn't and now he has no choice, it's her or his sister. He chose her to be trafficked. And that ends in a cliffhanger.

Update:
1/2024 I'm sorry but I took this series off my TBR. The author is very frustrating, she just gave up on this series or what, idk. I don't think I would be this annoyed if she just had transparency and told everyone an actual date and stuck with it but she's moved it back and back and is ignoring people on Insta and Facebook. There's too many mistakes for it to be worth the wait at this point :(

11/2021 E. M. Snow is one of my favorite authors and I love Josslyn and Phoenix to no end. I need more of them, more of soft Phoenix! My only complaint was that in every one of her books there's spelling mistakes sprinkled in, which didn't bother me, but this book had so many more than her other books it took me out of the story a bit. For all the edits and pushback this book had, it would have been great to see those mistakes edited out, especially for a published book. Regardless, I love this story and can't wait for the next one, and may I repeat my review from the previous book and say, can we please have a Saint/Phoenix bestie moment? Cause I still believe the power they would hold...no one would be ready.

If you wonder if Phoenix continues to be an asshole, the answer is yes. YES he does.

Crown of Roses picks up right where Crown of Thorns left us hanging with Joss facing Saint, yes Saint. The DEAD Saint.

Joss is still living at the Townsend mansion, still under the control of Phoenix. She is hiding things she knows from him and he is obviously hiding stuff from her. The push-pull is stronger than ever, and quite frankly I wanted to see more backbone from Joss! It was infuriating, all the crap she put up with between the bullying at the school and with Phoenix himself.

There is a lot of back and forth in this book, a lot of monologue/inner thinking (the POV is all from Joss) and it was, for lack of better words, quite annoying at times. Again, as in the first book, the last part of the book completely made the entire book for me! So many secrets and another twist!! I honestly didn't see this one coming, but maybe you will... but HOLY....👀

I was really looking forward to this book, I really enjoyed the first one but the second one just didn’t hit the mark. for one, Josslyn and Phoenix didn’t go anywhere, it was literally the same interaction over and over again. and I never really got the sense that he liked her or cared about her thoughts and feelings ever. Maybe if there as more scenes especially when he apologized I would have enjoyed them more. Secondly, Josslyn is VERY annoying. Like she keeps repeating I can’t trust anybody! than goes and trust the very person she shouldn’t the most. And way to clingy but that could just be me thing. I might look for book three but who knows…?

disappointed…
the first book was actually good and showed promise for the series.
however, somehow the story seems to have gotten lost in translation. the romance was HEAVILY lacking, primarily focusing on the “mystery”
it’s clear the author has some distractions in her personal life that interferes with her writing as im in her fb group. however, i think there shouldn’t be so much promise and anticipation for a mediocre series.
this book was supposed to come out in september.
scratch that..
literally january.

smut wack. story wack.

The highly anticipated book??? Really? This book was not that great compare to the first one. I skipped many useless paragraphs and at time pages. Joss is still a weak person with no real character and a pushover, the book just pushes through pages to leave you on another cliff hanger and no real answers. Plus for real, come on did no one see Alaric??? That was super predictable shm!!!

Brilliant 😱

Oh my God! How the heck am I supposed to wait for the next book? Another brutal cliffhanger! Actually this is not even called a brutal one, this should be classified as a horrendous cliffy. And a stab to my heart! Snow knows how to deliver hit after hit with the twists and half truths but this twist, I couldn’t/wouldn’t have been able to imagine. It’s like the time when I watched 6th Sense by Bruce Willis. I am in a stupor and don’t know how long I have to wait to get a resolution. When is the next book coming out? Kudos E.M. Snow! You have done it again. Your plots and the characters are deliciously and brilliantly complicated and read-worthy (don’t even know if it’s actually a word).

This was one of my most anticipated reads and I was left so disappointed

Summary:
This is the second book in the Thornwood Prep series, which follows Josslyn (Joss) as she continues to live at Phoenix's house while waiting for Ghost to contact her again about the list. Actually, I don't even know what is going on at this point. But that is the gist of it.

Review

I was so disappointed with this book! I actually enjoyed the first book in the series and after reading this one, I am questioning if I read the right book? It doesn't seem like this page has been updated with a cover or other stuff, but I read the book on Kindle??

But absolutely NOTHING happens in this book. Zero plot and character progression. What we have is a main character who constantly questions all of the shady stuff happening around her, but does nothing more to figure out what. Any clues that show up in the book is basically handed to her.

I could not stand Joss at all in this book (and I will only focus on her because I do not care for anyone else in the book...not even Phoenix, cause he was barely there). But the fact that she let everyone walk all over her and pushed it all to the side. And then suddenly getting a "backbone" when she comes face to face with her brother again. Even then, she still doesn't stand up for herself.

The way that almost every chapter ends in a weird cliffhanger way was very unnecessary. Example: at the end of chapter 19, it leaves off like
"And somehow, I don't think this is going to turn out well at all.
But I have no choice"

This is basically how almost every chapter ends.

And I found it immensely frustrating that the writing was all tell and no show. And this was all happening through Joss explaining and contemplating everything in her mind and then somehow dismissing it all. This type of writing is not pleasant to read as it is just a dump of information at once instead of being sprinkled through the story progression.

Really, I was disappointed in this installment and was really hoping for it to be better. Hopefully the next one is better.

Annoyed

3.8/5- Super annoyed that this book ended at 85%, and then you get a sample of Saint. As a reader that already read the Angelview series, it’s just a waste. This series started of a lot stronger. I found myself flipping through the dialogue in this book, so not only am I annoyed I’m disappointed. The Angelview series was certainly stronger. I think I was expecting more from this author. Hoping the series ends on a much stronger note and not 40 pages before the actual book is complete (eye roll).

Book 1 was good, but this one is just Josslyn’s rambling over and over again, I read the first 75 page, when I noticed the same rambling over and over I skipped to the end and guess what there is no answer apparently all the important bits are what happened to Reina, where Phoenix parents are and what will happen with Joss now that the time is up and it’s all there in one single chapter. You won’t miss much if you go and just jump til the end

Disappointed i wasted my time reading this book. It literally went no where and was written horribly. I did not understand what was going on at all . It was just the same thing being repeated over and over . I did not like the main characters and their relationship, there was no chemistry or growth . The mystery to this book was crap, confusing and never bloody ending. Couldn't even finish this .

Evil Families. Mess Up Kids. Obsessive Relationship, School Bullies

This second instalment in a The Thornwood Prep Series, begins straight after the end of the first book.
Ended

And, the drama continues…

Josslyn Luna is now processing the new information she has learnt about, Jamesion Angelle, Jasper, Nora ( Mallory’s birth mother ) the Towsend’s father, Royce, and…

**Spoiler Alert**
Look away if you don’t wanna know

Saint Angelle being her brother..

Yeah.

THAT happened. 😱

However, with Reina’s disappearance hanging in the air.

Josslyn decides to take the usual step of returning to the Townsend home..

Why?

Well.

Basically, Josslyn returning to the Townsend house, and Phoenix in particular, is because, she was begging for more of the D.

With her V card well and truely discarded, Joss is happy to be blissfully sated by Phoenix while kidding herself that she returned to find out what happened to Reina, and to stop Phoenix using her Grandma as leverage against her.

( sure 😉)

But, basically, now she has discovered the joy of the big “ O” she is addicted to sex.
But not just any sex.
Sex, with and Phoenix.

( who is still a major douche btw )

“What the “F” is wrong with me?”

Get used to this sentence because it’s one Josslyn berates herself with often.

What the ‘ F” is wrong with her INDEED!!!

She is clearly suffering from sex brain.

She’s getting it hot ‘n heavy and, on the regular from the first guy that has ever paid her a bit of attention.

The problem arises when she realises it’s not healthy but, she wants the sex anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

Despite the warnings from everyone about her relationship with Phoenix
( And I mean EVERYONE!!! )

Despite the disgusting bullying of the student body at her school,

Josslyn returns to Phoenix over, and over, again because she craves the D
( However, he still treats her like dog 💩 on his shoe)

However, in her desperate need for information, and being annoyed at being kept in the dark, Josslyn turns into a real nagging, petulant, B desperate to believe this douche really has her best interest at heart … Not!

Oh yeah? There is still a plot line to all this.

But.
When we finally get there…

When there is any kind of confrontation, it take the author so damn long to get to a point of any kind.

At times, you can understand Phoenix’s constant absences

The cool girl Joss, from the first book is GONE!

In her place we have a girl who is constantly contradicting herself

( just try reading her inner monologues 😒)

Joss tells Mallory she has to stay at the Townsend House to get answers, but knows better than to ask anymore questions of Phoenix as he won’t tell her 🤷🏻‍♀️

“hate Phoenix with a F **** passion, then the other half I’m f***** him with the same passion.”

Yeah! * sigh

That just about sums it up 🤷🏻‍♀️

Josslyn confused the heck outta me in this book.

She wants to be tough.
She makes rash decisions
She wants to help save P’s parents.
She wants to know the TRUTH!
She wants to be brave.
She wants CONTROL over her life

THEN!

She allows Phoenix to control her.
She’s sick of being used by everyone
Hides in her room
( Ventures out for food occasionally, which inevitably results in a confrontation with
A. Phoenix
Or
B. Alaric )

And!

Just wants to run a way.

MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Joss…Joss…so level headed in the first book, comes across as a petulant, needy GF drunk on sex and the notion that it’s all because Phoenix CARES!

Of course Phoenix is absolutely awful with the way he treats her.

So much so, that the authors must of gotten a little worried so, he gets a redemption, apology moment between him & Joss just in time for the author to insert yet another round of sex between the two.

By this stage they are both blowing so hot and cold..
I’m over them
But!

Gotta keep the smut readers satisfied I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Finally towards the end we get to the meat and bones of the story at last. 🙏🏼

The reason Josslyn has been used by everyone.

And the shocking twist when she learns about the betrayal by someone close to her.

Yes.

It’s all very nefarious and cloak and dagger in the end.
with a gang of evil businessmen at the helm.

With another book in this series way overdue
( I mean people are screaming over the delay )
I hope the author will stop giving Josslyn more credit than she deserves for her detective skills.

This girl, at this point, rates herself pretty highly at being able to resolve the situation at hand, and restore happiness throughout the land.

Unfortunately, she a seventeen year old, having her first sexual experience/ relationship, thinking she now has the ability to be some kind of a saviour.

SHE’S NOT!!!

She’s a silly delusional girl… GIRL! Over thinking every move she makes
( and still manages to make the worst choices )
running around trying to find a clue 🤷🏻‍♀️

Three stars
Didn’t like it as much as the first.
Even the writing wasn’t a good

So 75% of them made me scream. I was really screaming, I wanted to take something in my hands and bang Josslyn on the head. Whatever he takes his head, pride whatever. And then it happened. I haven't really breathed since Margaret hit her in the nose. I also did a celebratory dance with a reader in hand that finally. That was one of the most beautiful moments in the book. The second was when she woke up and the charged Phoenix was in her room. He fought for her that was the moment I had been waiting for so long. Then he screwed it up, but it's Phoenix what else to expect from him. I want to kick him in the balls every second. And then it happened again. He took my breath away, leaving me speechless. His apology and subsequent pages were amazing. And at that moment, I thought that it finally paid off to wait so many months for this. E. M. Snow I need more of this Phoenix. And I'm dying for his gaze. As deadly serious.

The first book was amazing, the second dragged on so much. 60% of it was Joss trying to understand whats happening and not getting any answers from anyone. not much of action and moving forward until about the last 30% maybe.
The main characters had less interactions here and it was hot and cold which was dissatisfying, I wished we could see Phoenix discovering hes in love with Josslyn or more of an emotional connection.
Also there was something odd about her grandma, in the first book she was comatose, lo and behold in the second shey suddenly wide awake and no one mentioned what happened, also oddly enough in the spanish class the teachers name is different and suddenly everyone who matters is in that same class whereas that wasn’t the case in the first book. So not sure if the author forgot or what the fuck happened.
Also i wish someone would tell us why the hell is the third book not out yet, and why is this author suddenly MIA.

Crown of Roses picks up where Crown of Thorns left us with Joss seeing Saint and finding out he’s her brother. It’s also where she gets messaged that Reina went missing.
I wasn’t thrilled with this book to be honest and I hate saying that. I was bored with more than half of this book! No excitement. Everyone in this book is keeping secrets and lying. I am just not a fan of Joss’s character at all through this whole series!! She should have left that house a long time ago and now she’s gotten herself in a predicament with that ending. She tries to portray herself and thinking she has gotten stronger since staying at Phoenix’s but seriously it’s all talk!! I’m just disappointed ☹️
Now that everything is going to have to start coming out I really hope the next book is more exciting.

Liked it

I loved the first book and that cliffhanger was fab. This book leads straight in from there and a lot of the questions that came up in the first book got answered.

I did read some of the other reviews and whilst I agree on some respects at the lack of chemistry between Phoenix and Joss, I do think that they are a little harsh (however, we do all have our own POV’s and like different things). The connection is a slow burner and you can feel something between the two of them by the end of this book. It’s not your typical alpha hole/ lf relationship, as this book is not dual POV, so how does anyone know what is going on in Phoenix’s head?

There is still a lot more to get answered so I’m looking forward to everything being revealed.
The cliffhanger is epic and I can’t wait for book 3.

I'm torn.

After loving book 1 in this series, I was slightly disappointed in this book. I didn't feel the story progresses enough. It felt really rushed and for that, I'm disappointed. Add in the typos, grammatical & continuity errors and I feel that this was pushed out in a hurry. As a reader, I would have preferred a delay in the release over what I have read. Will I read the last book? Yes. Will I continue with this author? Definitely. If you like angst, drama filled bully romance, this doesn't disappoint.

This book was 2.5 stars, compared to the 5 stars I gave book 1. I still have hope that this will get the ending it deserves.

My advice? Don't push out a book just to meet a deadline. I would rather read a quality story without blatant errors and genuine character development. This book left me frustrated.
