Kirk—whose life is cut short in a car wreck on his way home from work—wakes up in a fantasy world…

Middle aged Kirk has lost everything. Well, everything except his job. When he’s in a car accident on the way home from his job, it’s as if the universe has finally succeeded in taking everything from him.

When he wakes, he’s in a fantasy land… in someone else’s body.

Unexpectedly a child again in a new world, unlike the one he left, Kirk must make new friends, fit in, and learn to eke out a new existence. Disabled by the accident that led to the death of the child whose body he accidentally inhabits, Kirk must get clever if he’s going to find a way to survive.

Kirk is a buyer at the agricultural equivalent of Wal-Mart. He lost his wife and child during birth, and now he's distraught and alone, unsure what to do with his life.

He dies a few pages later, so that takes care of that. He wakes up in a fantasy world as the youngest son of William. Unfortunately, he saved his brother from an oncoming carriage and barely survived, but his leg healed the wrong way and now he has a limp.

I'll stop the recap there. This is pure slice of life as we get to see a family in the fantasy equivalent of the middle ages/Renaissance. Life is simple and sometimes boring, but there is enough going on that it kept my interest.

Highly recommended. 5/5*

3.5 Fighting Invisible Foes Stars

This was a really enjoyable read. Very "slice of life" in tone, for the stories flow. It was slightly aggravating to progress so slowly, when I'm used to reading books far more fast paced. But I enjoyed the byplay of progression and profession within these pages.

We are introduced to Kirk/Gil's initial path into what will come to be a successful career as a merchant. Starting with merely figurines and board games as his first truly original products in this new world. The ingenuity is what truly captured my attention. It takes a lot to craft something you have seen into a workable product especially with less malleable materials. Taking modern day action figures made of plastic, and hand-carving their replicas to produce in this fantasy setting.

I'm anticipating exploring William, Cam, and Gil's future in the next book, and any that come after. I wonder how the dreams of his children will manifest in Willaim's possible future. If he will still enjoy the simple life he holds, or if their desires and future accomplishes will push him into some more active role in society?

The interactions with Judy both make me cringe and laugh. It will be interesting to see how their relationship shapes up. And whether the Holms family will come to truly regret their dismissal of the Gil die to his "crippled" state?

Outside of the storyline and character development, I can only profess one true detraction from this work: the spelling and grammatical errors. I probably would've rated it higher without them.

book one

Mistakes: Anything I found will be listed on Goodreads.

Plot: This is a reincarnation story. While it takes place on a world with magic and monsters, this isn’t a litrpg book.
The story can be a little dry, but I liked the detail that the author used.

Characters: I enjoyed the contrast of a 30 something being in a seven year old boy body. He tries to balance between being a child and acting like one at times with having an adult mind and knowledge from earth. The relationship with Judy is interesting as well. She is his physical age, but he is so far past her mentally that it is interesting to see how the author has them interact without it seeming creepy. I think he does an excellent job at this.

I'm not sure why I'm not as enamored of this book as so many other readers. There are plenty of grammar problems and very little happens in the book. There's also a strange inconsistency in the portrayal of Gil. He's a 35 year-old man but regularly acts like a child, except when he doesn't. It's a small niggle that smoothed out by the end, but still...

Regardless, there is something here that keeps me reading. I'm going to give book two a try in hope that it continues the upward trajectory.

Slow, but good

Story has lots of buildup and slow to develop. However still good read. If you like reborn type story give it a try

sitting by a warm fire

4.5 stars

So I’m reading the fourth volume of this book now and I’ve come up with a really great way to describe the series all the books in general follow the same pattern. Reading this series is like sitting beside a nice warm fire on a cool day. It’s not a hot fire meant to keep you warm in the frigid cold it’s Geos dinner to do what you needed to do to keep you warm to keep you comfortable and relaxed you.

Now this book is best described as slice of life. A man wakes up in the body of someone else and literally lives their life. The pacing of a slice of life novel is very important and that’s why I chose the description of a warm fire. Notice I didn’t choose a raging fire or something just warm. Perfectly describes the pacing of this book it’s continual it’s relevant it’s predictable sometimes it can be a little too slow you might want a little bit more warmth but it’s enough to keep you happy. That explains why I gave the book 4.5 stars instead of a 45 there are spots when it gets a little too slow especially in the first volume. Those first few chapters can be rough to get through because you really might wonder why should I care about this I might even recommend skipping the first few chapters and just get to the point where he dies and wakes up in a new body. No I do want to say I think it could be a little faster paced just a little especially in this volume because things don’t really start to happen here until the end of the book after all what we want to see is the character grow into becoming a merchant. It does happen so don’t worry no spoilers but it happens. I recommend the book to those who enjoy slice of life and a little bit of fantasy this will give you something to read on one of those COM days. I’ll be honest and admit there were times where I said OK I’ve had enough I’ll come back to this tomorrow and I did I had just gotten bored of reading in the night wanting a little bit more of a faster pace and then when I wake up in the morning guess what I’m right back in. That’s proof of the stay in power of the book because you actually do want to know what happens next with these characters. I recommend the book i’m four volumes in and I want more.

First book is organized and well-written. Book cover could be better. There are plot holes with how main character (teleports/reincarnates on a dying boy - in another world), but it is explained and described better than most. The author is logical, describes everything thoroughly, and maybe, just a bit methodical. No Mary-Sue's here. I felt that the author (describing herself as a lover of dystopias) made the main character's "second-life"/reincarnation (as a young boy - not born but soul-brain-transferred)(So, technically main character, Gil was not reborn but "transferred"??) suffers from physical disabilities from the moment a feudal lord (from this other World), ran him (the boy, main character) and left him crippled, bleeding and between life and death. Didn't the main character, suffer enough with his wife and child? and then his own Death?? to live his "second-life" as a physically disabled main character? If they have magic in this other world, why didn't William (Dad in this other World) pay to have his son healed-well??
That, and that this first book is short (less than 200 pages). It's missing a map, a good cover for the book and character summaries. It's the first book (series) that has above average character descriptions and real world-building (systems in place in this other world: social, economic, political, religious, etc.)
Although it's short, it already has 3 volumes and volume 2 is +100 pages more (+300 pages). I recommend this book if you are into isekais (teleported/reincarnated into other worlds).

35 to 7

Who knew I would enjoy a 35yo man turned into a 7 yo so much. It builds the story slowly, character and world building, so there is no crazy action scenes. I hate giving away plot and stories, so I read alot of body transfers on death in litrpg so was ready for some strange. I liked how sarcastic but sweet Gil ended up seeming to others when he thought he was acting one way but was interpreted differently by others (he is so clueless about his neighbor). I also like when he was starting to understand William's grief and how viewing him made him understand how others responded to him. I am looking forward to the next one.

Sorry to finish the book

Currently on a merchant protagonist buffet of stories and honestly this is one of the best I have read so far. Its a wonderful slice of life the characters not overpowered or an idiot, the story is more about life and personal experience rather than any kind if business or trying to get rich. Its about exploring the world around the main character and not just making a quick buck just to sit around plotting the next way to make a quick buck which honestly makes this story a welcome relief and I was sorry when I finished it an look forward to the sequel if there will be one

Not what you think

What do you need in a good slice of life is a great story and this is a great story, if your fed up with beating goblins all day and stats etc, then settle back with this book reminds me of several great japanes isekai books which is no bad thing.
Guy reborn in a young boys body etc, what i wanted was a story that was more true to life than the normal tropes of this genre plus i look for the more interesting book covers sometimes there is a hidden gem inside, i would say this is an uncut diamond that in the next books will get polished more.

Interesting Read

Kirk/Gil was a 30 plus office worker who had tragedy befall him. First his wife died in childbirth and then he died in a traffic accident. The afterlife is puzzling. Three doors lead from a sterile room. Only one is unlocked. He is reborn into the body of a 7 year old child who was run over by a carriage. An adult mind in the body of a child makes for interesting scenarios. I like the humor, slice of life, and childhood relationships seen through eyes of an adult child. I look forward to the next book.

Pretty good story over all. A little too wordy. And it was fairly draggy with the pacing. I don't think the Author could make up her mind whether the MC was a 7 year old boy or the 40 year old man. Some times she had him act like a slow child then she flips a switch and he is the man again. Make up your mind and stick with the choice, please! But the annoyances are so far few and minor, so I am reading the next book. Will revue that one also.

Interesting but nothing really happens

Imagine talking about your day to day activities over the course of a year. That is precisely what this book is. Guy gets isekei'd and we end up reading about everything a 7 year old deals with. Please do some montage work. I don't need to know the family is buying chickens.

I enjoyed the story

But for the ending. The story just stopped to abruptly, there was no conclusion. If you envision someone stopping mid sentence and leaving you'll understand how the book ended. It was an enjoyable book, if a bit weird and not exactly how would conceive scenarios playing out but if your looking for a light read I would recommend this book.

I feel a bit bad about this but here goes. . .

This is just badly written. It is a well known story idea, and it is poorly executed. The writing is dry and boring. The characters are as well developed as cardboard cutouts. The emotional aspects are flat and uninspired. When you reach the end, you just don't know what the whole point of it is. There is no actual story here.

KU Review

Fun isekai adventure. The mcs circumstances and attitude have you pulling for him to be successful. It’s also nice to read a story with strong family ties and very little malice in the content at all.

As the title says this is a review for Kindle Unlimited and as such is a reflection of my enjoyment of the book and in no way reflects cost to value analysis.

Ugh.....

First two pages made me hate your editor. Totally didn't understand what was going on. Maybe it made sense inside your head but reading??? Blarg. By page 19 I was done with this story... Fridge the wife and depression and bad boss... Cliche to the point of lost interest. If you can't get the reader excited in first ten pages....

Why???

This was way way too long a story about the most trivial things. No interesting character development, no real plot, just a meandering tale of daily life of kids in past times.

Interesting book

It started a little bit slow, but I'm glad I stuck with it. The story is more about character than action and it took me a little time to adjust my expectations. Once I did I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Slow but charming story

This is a good slice of life story although very slow to develop with the MC in a seven year old body. I enjoyed it but was frustrated at times with the slow pace.

Decent enough SINGLE BOOK. This is not a series. The book endings are literally a cut off mid-plot, every single one. If there hadn't been 4 books already published I would've been exceedingly upset that I wasted my time, but as it stands the book is still unfinished so I am definitely frustrated.

Did Not Finish

The writing is OK, but the pacing is atrociously slow. The characterization is also pretty inconsistent as well: the MC bounces back-and-forth between mature and immature with no apparent rhyme or reason.

Ultimately, it just doesn’t hold my attention.

The prices and interest rates are seriously odd in book two. The cost of a sword being equivalent to 45 apples is an example. And if someone offered me the year equivalent of 56% return on a safe investment I would assume a ponzi scheme.
Despite those flaws I like the books.

Great book

Can't wait for the next I liked the concept. In a world where books seem to just be others ideas from other books I found this a fresh and new idea. Good work.
