Leena's resolve to do whatever is necessary to keep the man she's grown to love and his sons alive strengthens her, Reid is the keeper of her dreams.

Keeper of my Dreams is a breathtaking historical romance I couldn't put down. From the beginning, I found myself whisked away to 16th century Scotland for an unforgettable adventure. Susan Leigh Furlong is a gifted historical romance writer. Using descriptive narration, the author plunges the reader into a time and place they may not be familiar with. The plot moves at an excellent pace with intricate historical accuracy. Every detail about gunsmithing in the 16th century added such depth to the overall story. I found it fascinating myself. The hero and heroine are widowed so it was natural for them to talk about their passed-on partners. At the core, it's a seasoned romance filled with heart, intrigue, adventure, and three adorable little boys. Brilliantly written, Keeper of my Dreams is a fresh take on romance in 16th century Scotland. Fans of Scottish romance will love this book. If you enjoy reading historical romance, you'll love Keeper of my Dreams. Another gem from the talented Susan Leigh Furlong. Highly recommend!

Opinions expressed here are entirely my own fault!

I enjoyed this very different Highland Romance💕! There were some places in the novel where Leena made some really poor choices, which was done for the sake of the plot. The book was still very interesting and well edited.

Leena Adair had come to Stirling to buy cloth for her family along with her brothers Dillon and Tarn who had come to buy tools and implement for their farms. Leena was crossing the street when she got tied up with a gaggle of geese and a number of balesmen carrying bale of fleece and nearly failed that she was rescued by gentlemen who had Bluebell eyes though that wasn't the right color she told herself. He introduced himself as Reid Halliburton the local gunsmith. The two got to be good friends over the two-week period that Leena and her brothers were in Stirling. Reed had invented a new type of hand gun which had a barrel rifling Jonas McDever who was a pirate of the worst kind told him he wanted the gun and if he didn't get it one or two of his boys might make cabin boys for his ship. Ms. Furlong has written a good book which keeps you reading want-ing to know what happens next specially towards the end of the book. I recommend that you read it as it's very good...

When the gunsmith makes an enemy of the pirate Jonas, he feels his only choice is to hide his boys in the car of the beautiful Lena. After a wild flock of geese brought them into each other’s acquaintance, He couldn’t stop thinking of her. When Lena finds Willy, Henry and Rowan and her families cart, She knows she must reunite the boys with three. This is where the adventure begins and lean and breathe find out how much they really care about each other. I was truly enjoying this book, but when it got to the part where they were waiting for Supino to bring Willy back to the rock and they thought this was the perfect time to have a quickie I just couldn’t believe it. Who in their right mind I don’t care what era it is no parent waiting for the kidnapped child to be brought back to them would have a quickie while waiting for the kidnapper to return. I mean he just walked down to the beach it was coming right back. I hate to harp on this point, but I mean really that was too much! Having said this I will say the other 99% of the book was really good and was so happy when cioppino help them at the end. I don’t want to give any spoilers, because this is worth reading I just couldn’t give it five stars with something that are necessary in the book. This is just my opinion I was given this book from Books sirens and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A beautiful relationship filled with love, treason, betrayal, adventure and surprises. I really enjoyed the fact that Leena and Reid are older. Both being widowers for years, they have remained faithful to their spouses, living their lives on their own. That is until a bunch of geese stirred trouble. Leena is a strong, leading woman, who does as she pleases, driving her brothers nuts. The villain is as despicable as they get, self entitled, liar, cruel and manipulative. Another character, Shipopi, is the one that I have not been able to decipher and he intervenes several times. Reid’s sons are wonderful, courageous, big hearted lads: adorable! A story filled with action, stubborn caring Scots, a tight knit family and a blossoming new one. I only wish we could have known Leena’s family better.

Lenna and Reid
I was blown away by how well done this story was the heroine was remarkable. This is a tale of what a father will done to save his children and what a young widow will do to help keep our hero’s children safe. The story was captivating and a page turner it was so hard to put this one done to eat dinner. I really liked the historical information the author added. I received this book for free from Booksiren and voluntarily chose to review it.

Delve into the pages of Susan Leigh Furlong's 'Keeper of My Dreams' and be whisked away into a tapestry where romance intertwines with the threads of historical mystery. Here, we meet Lily, a woman of fire and resolve, whose heart balances on the tightrope of love and obligation. In a setting that's as charming as a long-forgotten melody, Lily's story unfolds—a voyage not only across the cobblestones of her quaint town but also through the intricate corridors of her own aspirations and choices, painting a portrait of a life at the crossroads of destiny and desire.

Furlong excels in creating a rich, vivid setting that makes you feel as though you're walking alongside Lily in her quaint town. The historical elements are woven seamlessly into the narrative, adding depth and authenticity to the story. Lily's character is particularly well-crafted - she's strong, relatable, and her internal struggles resonate deeply, making her journey all the more compelling.

The romance in the story is tender and well-developed, unfolding in a way that feels both natural and heartfelt. Furlong's writing style is engaging, with a fluidity that makes the pages almost turn themselves.

If there's a minor critique, it's that some secondary characters could have been fleshed out a bit more to add additional layers to the already engaging storyline. However, this doesn't detract significantly from the overall enjoyment of the novel.

In summary, 'Keeper of My Dreams' is a delightful read that offers a perfect mix of romance, historical charm, and a strong female lead. It's a story that stays with you, reminding you of the power of dreams and the importance of following your heart."

This is the first time Leena Adair has been to Stirling. She lives in the Highlands with her family. They have saved up to buy farm implements and cloth.
The Master gunsmith has three sons and his wife is dead along with his oldest two sons. A man enters his shop and states he wants this new gun and he knows Reid has it. Jonas McDever is a pirate with an awful reputation for being evil. He tells Reid that one of his boys can come to his ship and work for him. But Reid knows he will hurt his boys. right now his sons are at school. They are Willie, Remy, and Hendrie. They are young and innocent.
Leena and her brothers had gone on a once-in-a-lifetime shopping trip. They are getting ready to go home and find the boys hiding in their wagon. Their dad told them to come to her. She loved children and since she was a widow with no children, he thought she might take care of them for him until he could join them. He was hoping McDever would lose interest if knew he did not have the gun.
A very complicated tale so well told by the author. She keeps it interesting. There is pretty much a lot going on and the turns. The characters are sweet and very loyal, even the children. The interactions between Leena and Reid are amazing. Is that love they feel?

The writing was articulate and the plot was interesting for the most part, but the author completely lost me when she discussed the characters’ intermingled saliva. What was supposed to be a romantic moment was ruined by this grossly descriptive sentence. It also was representative of the romance as a whole—in other words, the romance was just not very romantic. Both characters talked ceaselessly of their dead spouses and were very reluctant to enter into a relationship together, which put a damper on the mood of the book. I also usually really enjoy single dad romances, but Leena wasn’t that nice to the children. A lot of moments that could’ve been sweet came across as harsh and awkward.

The first 60% of the book was engaging though. I liked the pirate angle and the excitement of how the family would overcome this seemingly unbeatable force. However, the remaining parts of the book fell flat. They were very slowly paced and somewhat confusing to follow. It seemed as though the characters were just taking turns getting captured, which was rather tedious.

Overall, I did not like the pacing or relationships in this novel. I do not recommend it.

*I received an ARC of this book. This is my complete and honest review.*

This was a tremendous book to read. First of all, let me say this is not the type of book I normally read. But I absolutely loved this book. I tend to stay more in a recent time era. But it was so interesting to read about custom and even a bit of language. The author evidently put a lot of research into this, and the result is a smooth story from beginning to end.

While it does not change my reading habits, I would say that I definately would read this author again. I cannot recommend this book too highly. Get it. Read it. Enjoy it.

Keeper of My Dreams is more than a novel, it’s a stunning adventure. The passion between Leena and Reid sizzled off the pages. I loved the relationship between Leena and her brothers. A wonderful touch. Leena is a strong, smart heroine and Reid is a swoon-worthy hero. The wicked pirate is a great villain. The kind you love to hate. I was swept up in the story and didn’t want it to end, though at the same time, I was anxious to see the hero and heroine reach their happily ever after and the villain get his comeuppance.

An entertaining and moving Scottish historical romance, with a bold female MC and a caring male lead (and some adorable but hearty kids). Informative, with the depth of some history included in the background, this novel is a quick and easy read, with realistic pirates, Highland and Lowland characters, and of course beautiful Scotland as a main character too. For historical romance fans who prefer a little adventure as well.

In creating something new, the gunsmith nearly destroyed his life and those he loved. He found a new woman, Leena, in the process. Leena is barren and Reid has three sons. Can their love be found despite their lost loves and trials? It's really worth reading to find out.
