Zella Robinson’s fashion career is right on track—from a successful modeling career to managing Cathy's Corner Boutique for her new boss.
When d’Artagnan Dugan, the handsome Navy SEAL that dropped into the jammed elevator, makes an outlandish public proposal, Zella's automatic answer is to say, “No.” But he only wants to rescue his sister from financial ruin. So though he steals her life, playing his fiancée will be worth the drama if she gets to participate in bringing the wicked queen's reign of terror to an end and save Cathy's Corner Boutique.
What ensues is a series of unnerving incidents that unhinges Zella’s resolve—and when d’Artagnan’s training is triggered, they both are forced to face the consequences of their lie. But what is true, what is real, and what exactly is the con?

4 Star review of The Thief (Risqué Fairy Tales Book 1) by Jessika Klide
When I learnt that Jessika Klide had a new series releasing I jumped at the chance to read and review The Thief, book one in her latest series, Risqué Fairy Tales. This was an entertaining read which had me invested in d‘Artagnan Dugan and Rapunzel Robinson’s story from the first chapter. Sometimes fairy tales do come true but they are not normally as spicy and heated as The Thief. There were times where I laughed, times where I was moved to tears and times where I flat out swooned. When their eyes first met sparks flew and that continued when they met again. d’Artagnan needs a wife in a hurry otherwise he loses control of his family empire and when he puts an offer to Rapunzel she initially thinks he is out of his mind. However the attraction and chemistry between them is intense and impossible to ignore. Could it be love at first sight? Could they both have finally found the missing piece that they never knew they were looking for? One click and find out.
Sometimes sweet, sometimes exciting, sometimes hot, sometimes thrilling ... but always addictive: that's what Ms. Klide's books are known for. The Thief is no exception! This modern retelling of Rapunzel and d'Artagnan is just that and so much more! It stole my heart and breath, had me turning pages as fast as I could read, and held me captive from the first page to the last. This dreamlike story made me swoon and laugh, sigh and cry, and took me back to my childhood when I devoured Grimm's fairy tales and Alexandre Dumas’ romances. I love, love, love this book to pieces!
Fairytales told to the young were never like this. Jessika Klide has retold the loved, Rapunzel, so well, even Walt Disney wouldn't be able to put it down.
d‘Artagnan Dugan and Rapunzel Robinson [Zella], had never met but had heard all about each other neither were ready for any kind of relationship, even if it is to financially benefit each other. Each chapter is more enticing than the last and I couldn't put the book down.
This is the first book in what looks like some great adult fairytales to come. I highly recommend this book to everyone. Jessika Klide never disappoints.
Who doesn’t love a good fairytale? The author wove a story that is all about true love and family. It also has the instant attraction and some sizzling scenes that are hot. A great escape and way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Looking forward to more from her.
d’Artagnan needs a wife and soon. He has a plan but as soon as he sees Rapunzel everything changed and it’s love at first sight. There tail is a world wind romance complete with a Wicked Witch.
“Look at her face. She can’t take her eyes off him.”
“He’s talking to her. I wonder what he’s saying? Probably how much he has missed her. How in love with her he is. How he can’t live without her.”
“Oh my god! He’s proposing!”
What a beautiful sexy adventure. Can’t wait for the next one.
A new author for me. And I’m going back to check out her other stories.
I loved it, a classic fairytale with a modern and adult twist. And it looks like a series too, so it’s a win-win.
Rapunzel and d'Artagnan's story starts with them being trapped in a lift together. There is definitely an instant attraction between them, but neither give it much thought…..
D’Artagnan has much more pressing matters to deal with, he needs to wrestle control of the family business away from his (evil) stepmother, and to keep her away from his sister. In order to do that he needs a wife! And as he doesn’t have time to wine, dine and woo a woman, he needs a fake wife, and he needs her now!!
Rapunzel (Zella) is such a great character, always the optimist, she usually can turn her have to most things. I loved her zeal for life.
So when the main characters work out that they are familiar to one another (his sister is her best friend) you would think it would make it ok (she needs to help her friend, and he needs to rescue the business) So an arrangement is made, one fake marriage coming up…. But how can it be fake when each moment they spend together brings them closer?
Cleverly written, I was rooting for the good guys, booing the bad guys and got to the end waaaaaay to quick!!
So can D’Artagnan save the family business, rescue his sister, thwart the evil stepmother and get the girl? For those answers your going to have to read the book…..
If you love fairytales and mix it with Military and romance then you will love this!! This is a modern day twist on a fairytale whirlwind romance and what made this complete was the evil step mother and one HOT Navy Seal.
D’artagnan arrives home after being away on assignment to visit his sister and make sure she was ok being left with their evil stepmother. What D’artagnan didn’t expect was Rapunzel. The broken elevator… The runway strut… Rapunzel had him from the start.. There was an instant connection which then became an engagement and HEA…. But is it a Happliy ever after for the evil stepmother? I loved this read and can’t wait to read what’s coming next in this series!!
Jessika Klide is a new to me author and when I saw The Thief was part of a Risqué Fairytale series, I had to read it.
d’Artagnan is in desperate need of a wife. In order to keep control of his family’s empire and keep his sister out from under their evil stepmother’s clutches he must marry. He has a plan but that all goes out the window when he sees Rapunzel.
The chemistry between the Rapunzel and d’Artagnan sizzles. It was love at first sight. Jessika Klide has written such a wonderful sexy story, that has you wondering if fairytales do come true.
I’m speechless…… but I will try to do this amazing book justice. Jessica managed to bring it all with The Thief! Until I finished this story, I didn’t know a modern day retelling of a fairy tale could bring me to tears, make me truly smile with absolute joy, and ohhhh boy, steam up the pages and have me turning on the fan. Truly remarkable talent from Jessica and I look forward to the next book! Highly recommended
This one was not what I was expecting. I didn’t expect to fall so far in love with the characters like I did. They were so well created and the storyline was incredible.
Considering this was based off a fairy tale I was impressed with how much more there was to the story, how much emotion that was brought forward. I was sad reading the last page because I never wanted this book to end but oh so happy to have read it.
A fun quick read that everyone needs every so often. Be prepared there’s drama, sweetness and of course don’t forget with all of Klide’s books you’ll have your hot romance! Loved the characters & the story itself!
I loved it. D'Artagnan and Zella are perfect. To see family come together was heartwarming. A definite must read. Thank you Jessika for another amazing read.

This book is a fairy tale romance and who doesn't love a fairy tale. D'artagnan is a navy seal, whom is on leave visiting his sister, and to rescue her from his evil stepmother's clutches. On his way to a charity fashion show to surprise his sister, with his visit, he stumbles across Rapunzel, who happens to be his sisters best friend Zella, sparks fly immediately, and is the start of a hot romance, to his wicked stepmother's dismay. A great hot read.
This is the 1st in a new series which is a modern day fairytale. D’artagnan has arrives home from an assignment to check on his sister who was left with he wicked stepmother, but he was not prepared for Zella. There is an instant connection between these two which is undeniable. This is a well written story which is heartwarming, and with emotions, family, and love, which leads to an entertaining and all-consuming page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
I. Want. More. This book is an insta-love that I instantly fell in love with. If these characters were written to cause thoughts and feelings to stir, that is exactly what they did. Great job! He was written perfectly to show strength in character and a true to his word SEAL, sexiness rolls off him in waves, and she was written to be sweet, feisty and sexy as sin. When I reached the end of this story, I almost cried because I wanted more!! I definitely rate it an easy 5 stars and will be re-reading this one again and again.
I received this book for free from Goodreads. Not sure where the high ratings came from. Author must have a lot of friends or her readers are all in middle school. The writing made me think the author was a teenage boy. I actually double checked the author's name. The writing was crass. For example: "with her big tits and big ass bouncing down the runway." This was considered a compliment. The H likes to mention the h 'tits' multiple times. The story line is juvenile. The main characters are one dimensional. The only age group I could imagine enjoying this book are 9th and 10th grade high school boys because of the crude language.
D'Artagnan Dugan can hear the emotion in his sister Cathy's voice over the SAT phone. He is at a base camp that doesn't technically exist and is going to miss her college graduation regardless of how much he wants to be there for her. Their step-monster Tiara is a real piece of work but is giving a graduation party and hinting at a gift she says Cathy will love she tells him skeptically.
Rapunzel Robinson and the other employees working at the boutique are called into a meeting with the owner. Unsurprisingly, he tells them he has sold the boutique since it is a dying business but he assured them that the new owner would be keeping everyone and the store would be staying open.
Two days later a woman with a high society attitude and a college girl walk through the doors. The woman, Tiara, informs them that she purchased the boutique for her stepdaughter Cathy as a graduation gift. Cathy looks at her gratefully when she has Tiara ushered to a waiting area to enjoy some champagne while she shows her the ropes.
One year later...
D's family attorney hand delivers him a letter from his father. When he reads the contents, he looks up asking his father's friend to keep their meeting between themselves. He just learned that not only had his father set up a trust for himself and his sister, but he had a deadline to find a wife. Something that his stepmother has hidden from him since his father died two years ago. If he doesn't marry before his thirtieth birthday which is just weeks away, his stepmother gets full control of a billion-dollar empire.
Zella was rushing to get to the Children's Charity Auction Fashion Show where Cathy's wedding gown creation would be put up for auction. This auction would give Cathy the recognition she needed to break away from The Wicked Queen as Tiara had been dubbed and finally be put in her place.
As D puts the stoned woman in the backseat of the Uber he realizes that his big plan for tonight is in the car driving away taking away his chance to meet the terms of his father’s will. As he watches another car finds the last space in the parking garage and a gorgeous woman steps out. After just losing his fake fiancée he watches her enter the elevator and wonders...
Already claustrophobic getting in an elevator and just finding out that she was now modeling the gown being auctioned she tries not to let her fear turn into an all-out panic attack when the elevator takes a drop and then stops leaving her in darkness.
The man on the other side of the elevator door asks her to sing a song to keep her calm as he tries to wedge open the door. While she sings she draws a picture in her mind to match the sexy baritone voice talking to her knowing that he will never match up to her imagination.
Her dream man would be taller than her - 6'4" would be perfect. Dark hair, dark eyes, ruggedly handsome...muscular, a man's man, not a model, and when he sees her he falls instantly in love, because well it's her fantasy, might as well go all out.
When he pries the door open and drops down beside her she stares at him in shock because her imagination could have never dreamt up the gorgeous man in front of her. And then she notices his Navy dress whites - a real-life hero...a Navy Seal.
Imagine the shocked looks on their faces when they find out that she is his sister's trusted friend "Zella" and he is her boss's big brother "Bubba".
I loved this modern retelling of a fairy tale! The book grabs your attention from page one and I couldn't put it down. It is so well written that I felt part of the story. The characters are amazing and so relatable.
Tiara is truly a wicked witch and I loved how D'Artagnan put her in her place. His and Zella's plan worked out perfectly. Zella and D are amazing together. From the second he climbs into the elevator with her their passion ignited the pages. This book is how fairy tales are meant to be. Highly recommend this book!
DNF 76% Where to begin with this one? Does the author know anybody that's been in the military? Especially the Navy seals? I do, and she needs to go back and do some research on the Seals. First and foremost Seals don't say a quote "You can trust me I'm a SEAL " all the time. The only time they will tell you that they were a SEAL is if you ask them what branch of the military they served in. It's a security issue that's why they don't keep announcing who they are. And just doing simple research would have told her about that. It got too repetitive after a while and I just kept rolling my eyes yes I know you're a Navy SEAL move on. She must also be big into instal love instalust because I don't buy somebody falling in love with somebody within 2 hours of meeting them. I don't mind instalove but this was ridiculous. The female character was just too boring for me. She tried to come off all bad ass toward the wicked witch but it just came across as being fake. The way my eyes kept rolling I was afraid I was going to get them stuck lol. So I don't know what happened to the wicked witch nor do I really care. I think this book was more geared for young adults because the spicy scenes were kind of boring too LOL.

This is my first book by Jessika Klide, but it definitely won't be my last. Rapunzel meets d'Artagnan when the power goes out and she is trapped in an elevator. There is an instant connection between the two. Unbeknown to either, they are not complete strangers. d'Artagnan needs to get married to break the control his step-mother has over his sister, and her best friend Zella would do anything to help, but it doesn't actually feel like a hardship to agree to the 'fake' marriage. I enjoyed this story, I loved the chemistry between the two and how easy they interacted with each other - it felt like they'd known each other for years. This book is fast-paced, and in some parts I wished it had been longer and more detailed. The characters are easy to like and the story is easy to follow. I would have loved to have read a more detailed epilogue, I really wanted to see more details about what happened with
Rapunzel and D'Artagnan are everything. All their encounters are explosive and filled with so much heat, you might get burned 🔥🔥🔥🔥. This is a best friends brother, fake fiancée/fake marriage romance that will just pull you right in. D'Artagnan is a Navy Seal who has been deployed and is coming home fulfill his requirements to get his trust fund and save his father’s company from his evil step mother. Rapunzel already knows how evil his step mother is because she happens to be his sister's best friend. Because of this she agrees to help D'Artagnan. What she doesn't realize is that D'Artagnan loves her and wants to stay married, which she also eventually admits too. D'Artagnan is sweet gentlemanly guy but also at the fiercely dominant, possessive, and extremely protective. Rapunzel is a fierce bada$$, with sass and a backbone. I just love both of them so much. This is a great read, I highly recommend this book.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for a voluntary review.

This was a quick but Steamy read.
Who doesn't want to be swept off their feet right? Being rescued by a man named D'Artagnan can't possibly go wrong either. Rapunzel made a beautiful side kick for the takeover of a lifetime and the two of them made an amazing couple. Not all fairy tales have to end with a white picket fence and a couple kids but this story made me smile just the same. Enjoy the story
d'Artagnan Dugan: Navy seal, mission to marry before his birthday,Bubba to sister Cathy, and thief of heart, life and love. (Hopefully) Zella Robinson: organizer, calmer marketing assistant, and best friend to Kathy Dugan. Also d'Artagnan's Rapunzel. Tiara Dugan: THE WICKED QUEEN, stepmother of Cathy and d'Artagnan Dugan. This is a risque, loosely adapted fairy tale featuring Rapunzel Robinson and d'Artagnan Dugan. An entertaining, well written, witty story of the Navy seal and his sister's assistant as they try to pull off the sting of a lifetime. A must read for enjoyment, pleasure, and to find out if the good or in this case the WICKED Queen triumph.
The Thief by Jessika Klide is the hopelessly romantic story of d’Artagnan and Rapunzel. Rapunzel works for an up-and-coming fashionista. She runs into d’Artagnan in an elevator. They hit it off and discover they have more in common than they could have imagined!! But, there are outside issues infringing on everything!!!
Such a hugely romantic story that enveloped me completely!!! Just like a fairy tale ending!!! Loved it!! Mistaken identity, fake situations….so much going on!!!
I am volunteering to leave a review for an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Modern-day evil stepmother story or is it? Totally loved this insta-love read about a military man who would do anything for his family. When he finally makes it back home it is to find out some crazy things and to see his sister. d'Artagnan Dugan meets Rapunzel in an elevator and their attraction is instant. When they go their separate ways things are about to change. As D'Artagnan has a plan and it now involves his beauty queen. Can these two figure it out before the evil Stepmother has her way? Love loved this book.
Rapunzel gets caught in an elevator and who should save her but d'artagan, a seal on leave. This is dramatic, sweet and fully intense as they walk the minefield that is their conspiring mother. I loved the overwhelming all encompassing love that he had for her from the first moment they met. It was really lovely to read about. Well written, I've not read many of this authors books but I'll be looking for more if this book is an example of the quality. Really great story! This was an ARC and this is my honest review.
While on leave from his career as a Navy SEAL D’Artagnan’s attempt to visit his sister are derailed when fate has him stuck in an elevator with her best friend Zella.
A stolen kiss leads to so much more as Zella and D’Artagnan form an alliance that will protect everyone, but evil forces are at play that are willing to do whatever is necessary to stop them.
Steam, suspense and surprises as D’Artagnan and Zella take us on quite the adventure.
✔Risque Rapunzel Fairy Tale ✔Navy Seal ✔Fake Marriage
The Thief by Jessika Klide is OUTSTANDING! The mix of fairytale, military, and fake marriage is going to take you on a ride. Sparks fly from the beginning, adding in the evil step mother, and so much more!
I love the modern fairytale retelling's that have been getting released lately and this one is a must read! It also looks to be a new series by Jessika so keep your eyes open for more to come!
I received a copy of The Thief as a Goodreads Giveaway and this was the first book I have read from this author. The Thief is just what it claims to be ~ a risqué fairy tale. If you are into steamy romance with a hot alpha male, you will probably enjoy this book! What made it a three star for me was not the story, which was fun, but the way the book was written. The format with very short paragraphs made me a little crazy while I was reading, just a pet peeve!
h, wow, I absolutely loved this awesome book. I loved how put together D’Artagnan is, he knows exactly what he wants and goes after it. It was great how Zella went with her heart and didn’t let her head interfere. This book won’t let you down, it has suspense, surprises, passion, intrigue, and so much more, I couldn’t stop, loved the ending it was awesome.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
2.5 rounded up. I received a copy of this book as a Goodreads giveaway and is my first read by this author. The book could have used another read through to clean up the grammar errors. The storyline had promise but the progress was choppy. Either too much detail was put into the chapter or not enough and while I like dual perspectives, the constant jump between the two mid chapters made it difficult to follow.
