4.5 stars. Oh dear, that was a marvelous story. Wheeee.
I looove journey’s where the main characters are in forced proximity. Closer than in this story you can’t get it. I loved it immensely.

After an accident in the middle of nowhere, injured omega Chance is found by Keer, an alpha, who lives solitary in nature.
Chance gets inseminated regularly to bear children, children he never gets to see.
That’s society, that’s his future.
Alpha’s are held captive because they are monsters, that’s what they tell omegas.

Keer is the opposite of a monster, he’s everything Chance could wish for.

When Chance gets into a heat Keer is there to take care of him. It’s one large beautiful erotic wave, where Keer is the most loving Alpha, looking at Chance, fixated to fulfill all Chance’s needs. Ahhhh and in need he is. Dang! Give me a Keer!
Not one scene had a repetitive move, it was absolutely breathtaking to watch them.

Thank goodness there is not much stress, it’s a delicious lovable story.
The connection between both men was wonderfully pictured. Very attractive put together!
Overall a beautifully written story, emotional, erotic, and all the feelings.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

This is a neat omegaverse story, with hints of Handmaid’s Tale woven into a M/M romance. Keer falls just as hard for Chance as Chance does him, but he’s not sure how to handle it. He won’t compromise his family, but he also can’t forget the protective and amorous feelings awoken within him by tending to Chance’s heat. Chance has a choice to make: return to society and put the fears of his parents and friends to rest, or stay hidden within Keer’s massive family complex with the alpha he has come to love, forever.

I liked this one. It had good pacing and an interesting forced-proximity romance. The “mystical” ideas of love and connection, especially in the practically mythical soul bond, were so foreign to each of them, and both men were so vulnerable yet strong together.

Not my cup of tea I am afraid..

The world was harsh and I expected a lot more conflict about it from main characters, but all I got was - if you are rich enough, it is not that bad. MC wanted so bad to go back to his life, but..back to what? No jobs, no prospects, no family? No seeing your own children only acting as an incubator? What was he so desperate to get back to? I never understood his logic and there was no character development either to help me understand. I expected some more outer conflict and some more internal conflict and anger at the system, some small rebellious part. Yet everyone was so..okay with it. The circumstances of how they met were interesting and exciting, but I expected some more "rough living" or secret sanctuaries, or secret rebellions or.. something. All I got was "money can solve most of your problems in life". Which is.. true enough.. but I expected something else. It is not you it is me? My expectations were too high? Who knows. Either way, not my cup of tea.

SPECIAL AND BEAUTIFUL

This is Book #2 in this new to me world of CAPTIVE ALPHAS. It's INCREDIBLE!!! Chance is an Omega in this society controlled by Betas. Keer is an Alpha not locked away with the others. After an accident Chance awakes in the presents of an Alpha. He's never seen one before. Keer is determined to do everything he can to help this Omega recover and return to his normal life. Keer is a beautiful caring Alpha. Not the monster society teaches them to believe. Chance has a sensible head on his shoulders. He has an open mind and a lonely place in his heart. These two light up the pages with their emotions and want. I loved this Book. It's a lot different than the first book MOON and I believe can be read alone. This has a happily ever after and a FANTASTIC epilogue. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THE CAPTIVE ALPHAS!!!!!!!!!!

**ARC Review**

First time reader and I wasn't disappointed. I read the premise of this series was instantly intrigue. Especially about the Betas ruling the society. I didn't get to read the first book in the series but I don't think it took anything away from getting involved in the story in this one. Chance and Keer was a wonderful match and I loved their connection and romance. Definitely will continue with the series.

Chance is the second book in the ‘Captive Alphas’ series. It stars Chance, an omega, and Keer, a free Alpha. The story is told in first person through Chance’s pov, but later in the book there are a few chapters through Keer’s pov.

I received an ARC of this book from the author. I'm leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

Wendy Rathbone is such a talented author. Her world building for the Captive Alpha Society is intricate. It's a society that's contrary to our understanding of an Omegaverse. The Betas are in charge and their rules are draconian. Alphas are imprisoned for being said to be monstrously aggressive and Omegas are while treated well, are just Brood Mares expected to produce a child through artificial insemination for Beta couples to adopt every year.

Our Omega MC and his friends are dutiful obeying all rules & responsibilities expected of them. But between pregnancies they make their own fun. One thing they enjoy doing during their restful times is to go up into the mountains, burn candles, and make silly wishes. But Chance always wished for an Alpha of his own, something that could never occur.

A freak accident, a dangerous fall, and an unexpected rescue. A little hideaway, a fear of hypothermia, a blazing fire and skin to skin warmth. Lessons were learned and old myths exposed as false. Unbelievable truths finally are revealed. But will the two MCs be brave enough to take a chance on each other?

Better Beta
The Betas in this series have a very bad reputation. And the author Wendy Rathbone throws a monkey wrench into our reading gears. Her focus in this novella is on an Alpha and Beta pairing. It was really interesting how she set up the scenario especially in the Castle (Prison) of monstrous Alphas. The Alphas been collected together to protect the population and milk the Alphas for the Beta's artificial insemination factory (process).
But what happens when the Alpha is not able to perform and supply their much-needed vital essence to impregnate Omegas? A medical fluffer is called in to do some special collecting. I was rooting for these two but really unsure of how they'd manage to find their HEA.

I love Wendy rathborne so much

I just finished it in one sitting because I am Wendy Rathborne’s biggest fan!!!! I was so excited I love this world feel like this book is really fluffy compared to her other books which are a little dark. This book seems to be leaning towards the wider audience mainstream mpreg which is awesome because I believe she’s really underrated and should be discovered by audiences who prefer happier books. Especially the erotic scenes were amazing and I think this book is definitely really Erotic and so hot!!!

Chase is an omega where the betas rule society. All omegas are to be artificially inseminated their whole lives and gives back to society by doing so.

Chase is pretty content and happy with his two other omega friends who are only used for breeding and don’t know any better. Chase seems ok until he gets into an accident and falls in a river. He wakes up to a really hot alpha but he can’t believe it because society believes alphas are dangerous to society and should all be locked up in the breeding facility.

The first book moon tells you how horrible it is to alphas.
Which is why I’m surprised she wrote such a fluffy story and a little disappointed because I love her other books and books about breeding etc.
But This was still such a delight to read.

I would love it if you have any recommendations for me too I’d really appreciate it. I can’t stress how amazing this author is. I’ve had coronavirus for a year and a half and they found an auto immune disease so I’ve been stuck in bed this whole time but I love reading so much all I do is read and I feel like I’ve read everything but I really want books like her style and her topics if you have any recommendations please let me know I’d love to chat to about books I am on Facebook on Mpreg fanatics a lot under Hannah Kim.

Thank You Wendy rathborne For helping me manage my pain and giving your ideas and books and sharing them with everyone

Chance was interesting. This series has a different take on the A/B/O trope, in that alphas are the smallest portion of the population, then omegas, with betas making up the majority. In the past, the betas rose up to become the ruling class, forcing alphas and omegas into subjugation.
Chance is one of these omegas, he’s had five children, none of whom he has been able to keep let alone see. In between pregnancies, he’s caught up in a car accident and rescued by Keer, an alpha. Keer has been lucky in that his family is so wealthy they’ve been faking test results for years, so Keer has been able to live in relative freedom masquerading as a beta.
This was a much sweeter story than the first book, focussing on the relationship between Chance and Keer. In a cave they’re able to be their true selves, getting to know each other without the pressure of the outside world.
This series is definitely a really different take on the trope, and it makes for an interesting read. You’re never really sure where it will go. And for Keer and Chance, they live in such different worlds. Keer’s wealth allows him freedoms he’d never normally have, and it’s almost scary for Chance to take the risk and be with him because it would take such a sacrifice. But Keer is one of those guys who makes that kind of sacrifice worth it.
What I did really love about this book is that from reading book 1, and the end of this, I don’t think this was the story that was meant to be book 2. I’m fairly certain the next book was planned to be book 2. And for me, when characters derail an author’s plans, that is one of the coolest things. It always feels like the characters were begging for their story to be told, and this was so worth it.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.

Come to me now, my love. Give me your dust, your fragments, all your selves when the moon has gone behind the tree and the coyote sings his song. I will be there to take you into me and make you whole.

omegaverse stories done right will always be top-tier. i can't believe i dnfed months before wendy rathbone´s chance. this was amazing and very heartwarming. the whole story of chance and keer may not be as intense as moon, the first book, but i still loved it in the end. also, i love how this author writes these stories! the fact that these two mcs are in each other's arms in their safety bubble while the oppression is still going on fucks with my mind. usually characters fight against injustices and the unfairness in their stories but the mcs in these two books from rathbone made peace with these things. i'm legit surprised that i dig these stories. basically hea strictly and solely for themselves.
Keer's fingertips found their way. Delicately, he spread my inner juices up and down my crack. He touched me with both his hands now, parting my cheeks, opening me like i was flower that needed help blooming all the way. I felt like a flower. Beautiful and arching myself upward toward necessary light.

my only concern: this book is not my ideal sequel. moon, the first book, is about this story about alpha males forcibly being milked by their government to impregnate hundreds of omega males. and this book wasn't about that? i was a bit disappointed because the first one introduced interesting side characters. this is the reason why i dropped this book before. i love the forced proximity here of the mcs but i want the earlier storyline more. excited for book 3!

Chance is the second book in Wendy Rathbone’s Captive Alpha’s series. In this society, Omegas like Chance are forced to give birth to as many children as time permits in order to keep the population from dying out. He’s inseminated in a lab, and never gets to meet his children. It’s a cold living, but not as bad as the Alphas who are kept in cells, hidden away, and only used for their reproduction potential. But then Chance is in an accident and meets Keer. Suddenly, the life Chance knew is turned upside down and he finds out his life doesn’t have to be so cold after all, especially if he’s in Keer’s arms.

I thought Chance was a great addition to the Captive Alpha’s series. While taking place in the same omegaverse and involving the same Alpha/Omega dynamic, Rathbone puts the main characters through vastly different situations. And while technically not a standalone, I would say it’s not necessary to read the first book in the series if you want to jump straight to Chance. Rathbone definitely explains enough about her omegaverse to understand what’s going on without having the knowledge from the first book. I loved how Chance and Keer played off of each other. The idea that they’re each other’s soulbound mates was hinted at and then just sort of accepted; I would have liked to see more exploration of that on both sides. I think I would have also liked to see some sort of conflict between Chance and Keer. As it was, all perceived conflict was sort of outside their little relationship bubble, and they really found their happily ever after without too many obstacles. The writing and plot were well done, though, so if you’re looking for an omegaverse mpreg featuring a couple that gets to their happily ever after without too much mess or fuss, Chance would be a great read for you. Minus the lack of any really big conflict, I liked Chance and Keer’s journey, both with each other and with how they dealt with the issues of their world.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am not usually a huge fan of mpreg books but when Wendy Rathbone writes them, I read them - it's as simple as that. This book, Chance, is the second in her Captive Alphas series and is set in a world with a different take on the usual A/B/O dynamics. Omegas are there only to provide offspring for betas to raise and alphas are kept locked away because they're deemed 'dangerous' to society. This book follows Chance (an omega) after a car accident where he is stumbled upon and rescued by alpha Keer. The pace of the action at the start was good and kept things interesting until the two met. From that point onwards, it was their chemistry and relationship together that drove the story forwards. There are plenty of steamy moments; in fact, I'd have to say that the middle 25% of the book is dedicated to this... and I devoured every single word!
If you're looking for a book with angst, this is not your book. However, if you're looking for a relatively light, smoking-hot romance with the must have HEA then this is the book to buy! I think this book is a much needed interim book in the series, with book 1 providing more of the harsh side in this world and book 3 likely returning to that side too. Overall, Chance is a book with likable characters, lots of chemistry and is one which I finished in one sitting without putting down. I'd definitely recommend it and you don't have to read book 1 in the series for it to make sense- it works just fine as a standalone too.

This story has a lot going for it: interesting world building, a deeply sweet protagonist (that would be Chance, the omega. While Keer, his alpha rescuer, gets a few chapters to narrate, the majority of the story is seen through Chance’s eyes, and he’s a sweetheart who deals, for the most part, with major catastrophes with quiet dignity and grace). For me, the style of this book didn’t always live up to the substance: I found the writing to be a bit clunky, especially the dialog— these characters inhabit a world modern enough for credit cards and cell phones, but don’t use contractions? Plus, there is some deeply purple prose, and brace yourself because when Chance says he writes bad poetry, he’s not kidding. Bonus points, however, incorporating quotations from Wuthering Heights— the dramatic declarations about love, dreams, and existence from a gothic classic worked really well for the setting these characters inhabit. Overall, this is a sweet story, and the relative lightness of it, and the joy of the HEA, make a heartwarming contrast to the dystopian elements of a society in which betas oppress and basically enslave alphas and omegas.

This was more of a miss for me than the previous one in the series.
I expected to like it more, because the premise is very interesting!

But in the end, the entire middle part, like 60% of the story, were just multiple sex scenes, that I ended up mostly skipping. I prefer if characters develop at least some kinda chemistry or desire before the sex (or alternatively, if they get to bond in other ways after the sex), and the whole omegas going into heat, and that being a time where they are constantly mega-horny, just goes against that.
The series gets plus points because it makes sure to show that alphas are incredibly caring and loving people, and the fact that alphas and omegas never usually get to meet is an interesting concept.
Still, this story was pretty boring to me in the end. I wish there was more to the couple than the heat-induced sex, and then realizing they are in love after a couple of days, the end.

Also what struck me as a bit weird was how Keer said he gave Chance no way to find him/his family, no way to contact them, but he did give him his family name and confirmed they are that one wealthy family, so surely, Chance had enough knowledge to use against Keer there.

I liked this one, but couldn't bring myself to rate it higher, because of two things. First, there was just something about the it just made me feel really disconnected from the characters. And second, felt completely deus ex machina - not satisfying at all since it was so improbable and solved all their problems "magically" (not with actual magic, for anyone reading this review, but the same wand-waving all-powerful solution to an insoluble problem.)

On the one hand, I was super happy for Chance of course, but on the other hand, it made for a less-than-satisfying plot. I'm still enjoying both this author and this world, though, so I'm excited to read the next in series (...and crossing my fingers that it will feel more substantial!)

I have to admit I struggled a little with this book. It is a cute, low angst book with lots of heat between the Omega, Chance and the Alpha, Kerr. Chance and Kerr live in a world that is dominated by Beta's and omegas are only used for baby carriers and alphas are in prison. Chance has two friends who are also omegas and one night they are taking a drive and there is an accident and Chance is thrown from the car and falls into a river. Kerr saves his life and takes Chance to a hidden cave. Chance has his monthly heat and Kerr is there to help him out. They bond. After they get back to Kerr's home, Chance is thrown back into his old life and is told to forget all about Kerr, since acknowledging him would put Kerr in prison with all the other alphas. My struggle is with the thought that betas rule and no one else has any rights. Somehow betas told society that omegas were worthless except for having kids they couldn't keep and alphas were uncontrollable. In the end, Kerr finds a way to keep Chance and they can have a future together.

This was a new approach to the A/O/B universe for me. This one is set in a beta driven society that has overthrown the traditional alpha rulers and turned them into captives. Their only use in this society is to provide the means for the ‘pure’ omegas to spend their lives producing young, by insemination and never in person, for beta couples. When omega Chance is in an accident and is rescued by alpha in hiding, Keer, they are forced to wait out a bad storm in a cave together. Chance is scared when he starts to experience his heat as he’s been led to believe alphas are monsters.
Chance and Keer are both lovely characters. Chance, who could so easily be despairing of his forced life but is still upbeat about it, and Keer who is so tender with Chance as he helps him through his first heat with an actual person and shows him that what he’s been brought up to believe is not correct.
I enjoyed the book but was left with a feeling that most of it had been about Chance’s heat which it wasn’t but it seemed to overwhelm the rest of the story and led to a bit of a rushed conclusion.
This was an enjoyable, close proximity, first time story with a lot of heat and a happy ending and while it is part of a series it can easily be read alone as there are no overlapping characters and the universe is well explained.
I received an ARC of this book to review and this is my honest and voluntary opinion.

Chance lives by society’s rules but he has always longed for an alpha of his own. He may be an omega and has done what he has been told to do but Chance has a mind of his own and one fateful night out with his friends changes everything. When Chance is in a car accident, he finds that not all he has been told is truth and he must make the choice to go after his dream or let it slip away.

I enjoyed Chance’s journey to the truth. This is the second book in the series, and it takes readers into another side of this world where betas rule and the Alpha’s are imprisoned. Chance finds himself learning about Alpha’s in a new way and finding out that there is so much more to an Alpha and his actions. Keer is different from what Chance has learned Alphas are like. I enjoyed seeing the way their relationship grew and deepened. The two are good together and it was nice to see Chance grow and begin to trust Keer. Their story moves along nicely and is full of emotions. The author gives readers a new facet of this world with this story, and I cannot wait to see what the next book will bring.

Chance is the second book in the series Captive Alphas, which is set in a fictional world, where the betas rule and hold Alphas captive to use them for breeding omegas.
Chance is a law-abiding omega. He already has born 5 children, that he will never see again. When he is sightseeing with his omega friends, he gets into a car accident, that leaves him lost in the wilderness during a storm. He gets saved by an alpha. He never met an alpha before, as they are held captive. But somehow this alpha seemed to have been escaped. But alphas are not held captive without reason. And Chance’S heat is approaching.

I liked this one. I already have read the first book in this series and liked it as well as this one. I would recommend reading the first one as well, so you can see how this world works. I don’t want to spoiler too much but I loved to see an alpha free and loved the interactions between him and Chance.

It is a solid read and I am looking forward to how this series continues.

Chance lives in a world where as an omega he is required to register and become breeder, inseminated in a laboratory. He is not allowed to keep the children he births but rather they go to betas who are sterile. Chance receives a pension and has an apartment but he is lonely. By contrast, Alphas are considered dangerous and are kept imprisoned. When Chance is in an accident, he finds himself wondering the wilderness far from his home. He is rescued by Keer who is an alpha and not locked up. His whole reality changes and now he has hopes for finding true love.

These two together are amazing. It does not take long for us to want a happiness for this couple, even though the laws in the world are against them. The ending is very special and will leave you with a smile. It could not have been a better ending. This is the second book set in this world and I hope to see more. I am very excited to find this series and will read the other books as soon as possible.

Not good

Here's what I liked: it wasn't a rinse and repeat of the first book and it had a different setting than the Hall of Alphas.

What I didn't like: basically everything else. This story up until chapter 13 (73%!!) is all told from Chance's POV. Why not make the whole thing just his POV. By the time you get Keer's POV you don't even care what he has to say. The story hardly makes sense and the soulbonding is frankly boring. Wouldn't fated mates realize as soon as they met that something is different and not after they have nonstop heat sex for 3 days? To me that just comes across as lust and not deeper feelings. Oh but they get physically ill when separated but the fact that they can separate at all just seems like bs. In the first book they said that betas can't smell alpha and omega scents so why do they need to be blocked then? I really wish I would have not read this book and now I'm unsure about reading Cold.

Wow, I’m already in love with this series, it is so good. A very creepy/cool, dystopian, Handsmaid-Tale-like backstory. I love reading how the couples work to overcome their lots in life and rise above the unfair society they live in. You don’t need to, but read Moon first because it is so damn good and really sets the stage for this dystopian society. I was glad to learn more about the way the breeding omegas live in this book. This story was more flowery and poetic, which made perfect sense because both the main characters were. It set it apart from the first nicely. The biggest flaw in this book is that there is nothing from Keer’s point of view in the first half. Just like Chance, I wanted to know more of what he was thinking! I love soulbonds and am so excited for more from this series. Especially since I found out the next one is Cold’s story!!

Love will find a way. I didn't like this world much. It could not have been healthy always hiding who/what you were and pretending. Chance and his friends, Zigs and Sin were out on a lark and Chance cast a spell for the spirits to bring him his true love. The omegas, had an accident and Chance was swept away wounded. A stranger, Keer rescued him and nursed him well. As Chance got to know Keer, preconceived notions were debunked about alphas, betas and omegas. A relationship between the two is forbidden. How close do Keer and Chance get? What happens with Chance's heat? What happens with the secret world? Great story. Nice character development. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is based in a world of alphas, betas and omegas and where the alphas get a raw deal.
Chance is an omega and his purpose is to bear children through artificial insemination and the betas are the leaders. Chance and his two omega friends have been wishing for an alpha to rescue them. One evening while setting up their ritual, things change. After an accident, Keer finds Chance, rescues him and saves him.
I loved how Keer cared for and helped Chance through his heat. Wendy Rathbone gave me a great escape between the pages.

I really enjoyed this story and while I can’t stand the situations these characters are forced into in their world I am glad when they can make the most of it. The idea that there were very rich alphas and omegas who could basically live free while others are imprisoned or forced to be a breeding machine kinda made even a little angrier with their world than the last book. Chance has made his life as good as he can with the fact that he is an omega and when he is rescued by his dream man he doesn’t know what to do. Keer was very sweet with Chance though very much lives with wealthy privilege and can make his problems go away. I was glad that they were able to find happiness together and get past all the barriers that society puts in place.

The story in Chance has an interesting premise: Chance is hopelessly lost in the woods after a bad car accident, and he is found by the one person that shouldn't exist--a free alpha. The characters are well-developed, and the book is primarily a wonderfully cozy heat-love story. I was looking for more story development at the end when the two must return to the "real world", where alphas and omegas are subjected to tyrannical laws which subdue them. It'll be interesting to see how this series progresses.

Another amazing romance in this exciting, original new mpreg series! This time not as much angst and the sweetest, steamiest kind of forced proximity. I was once again enchanted by the dynamic between alphas and omegas, the influence of nature and love on the connection between Chance and Keer. It’s such a fairytale, the hurt omega rescued by the mysterious stranger … who shouldn’t even exist and is nothing like what Chance has been told about alphas. Really enjoyed how the author wrote that aspect of the story. Keer is a wonderful character, so strong but with a warm heart and a soft, vulnerable core. I love that the physically more imposing characters like the alphas are kind of at the mercy of the omegas in their lives, a compelling juxtaposition. Though the dependence goes two ways. I love the worldbuilding in this series because it’s so different from most omegaverses. Definitely a flawed society with appalling, inhumane things going on, but the characters themselves are so loving and inspiring. Up until now, there’s been no activism in the stories, just “everyday” omegas and alphas trying to find happiness and safety in a hostile world.

Chance & Keer are worth the read.
The nuances of this Book 2 of Captive Alphas will capture the reader unawares. Reading Book 1 will illustrate this when read first. The Betas think they've got their society by the tail when hidden from them is a secret society of alphas surreptitiously living as betas. And into this world comes Chance who happens to be rescued from drowning by Keer after a horrible car accident. Chance is an omega breeder who's had 5 children, but each was taken away from him at birth. All he wants is to have his alpha knight ride in on a white steed and save him from his abject life. Keer can be that alpha, but he has secrets he believes best hidden. Theirs is a true discovery of unknown love succeeding over obstacles of emotional turbulence. It's best to read Book #1 to best comprehend the theme of Book #2. I was given this ARC from the author Ms. Rathbone and this is my honest & voluntary review.

I loved this story even more than the first one!! Chance is lighter than Moon. Chance is an Omega that has a serious car accident and wakes up with Keer, an Alpha has rescued him and is taking care of him. Chance has been taught that Alpha’s are terrible, horrible monsters. Keer is kind and that confuses him. I seriously loved this story; it was romantic and smoking hot and steamy! The characters are likeable, the story is really well written, highly recommend! I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My review is solely based on my thoughts and opinions.

This take on a.b.o stories are dark and possible. In a world where only omegas can give birth and alphas impregnate them, betas rule the the roost by locking the alphas away, and signing omegas up as surrogates.

Chance has a dream of a free alpha only for him, but believes it can only be a dream as Alphas are dangerous and need locked up to keep omegas safe.
Keer is such an Alpha, his families money provides false evidence to allow him to roam free. He only ever wanted an Omega of his own.

When Keer saves Chance they fall for eachother, soulbond. Both wanting to break laws to be together
