Questo nuovo arco narrativo mi sta piacendo molto, tra l'altro ho adorato il capitolo speciale.
Spero che non si perda come è capitato con l'arco narrativo precedente.

Fist of the North Star is the original One Punch Man. The basic plot involves innocent civilians who are attacked, tortured, and brutalized by a gang of thugs. Eventually Ken shows up and, after a brief confrontation, he destroys the large and overconfident villain with one punch (or a flurry). Then on to the next thug. Ken’s main weakness is his travel speed and the limited scope of his power. Sure, he can defeat anyone, but there are too many thugs all over the place.
Therefore, just as in One Punch Man, there are a lot of secondary heroes, like Bat, Rei, and the various Nanto fighters, who serve as the protagonists of their own subplots. Because they are vulnerable, there is a lot more suspense. With Ken, an antagonist has to be built up to epic proportions before posing any threat.
The first story in this volume was created in 2014 to fill in a gap in the narrative — the 10 years Ken spent after the defeat of Raoh.
SPOILER
It turns out Yuria died soon after, and Ken gave up on life, spending his days staring at her cliff-side carving. (In the movie Ken wanders the globe through deserts and forests, chasing visions of Yuria’s ghost, which seemed a lot cooler.) Meanwhile, there is a village of innocent people and a giant local thug. Even Raoh’s horse, Kokuoh, wants Ken to intervene, but he can’t be bothered.
So Kokuoh carries the son of one of the nanto generals into battle against the thug. The son is killed and only Kokuoh returns, shot full of arrows. When Ken sees what happened he is filled with shame and regret and finally goes and defeats the villain. Kokuoh then gives Ken a wanted poster for Bat and Rin, who have started a “Hokuto army” to fight for justice. Ken leaves his exile to find them.
Back to the 80s for the commencement of a new arc. With the defeat of Raoh, a new evil empire has arisen to take his place. We don’t yet know the scope of this empire. The rest of the volume is a slow build-up as Ken faces off against a hierarchy of thugs, each more powerful than the last (though none trouble him here).
Cameos from Hulk Hogan, Mr. T, the Road Warriors, and Drago.
The first thing we see is thugs abusing their power, killing a man.
Bat and Rin and their Hokuto army try to rescue some slaves but end up getting them burned alive instead.
Ken (though we don’t see his face, only his fist) kills the thug from the opening and examines Rin’s and Bat’s wanted posters. So we know Ken is around, drawing near.
More of thugs brutalizing people. Which culminates in an arena event where the local warlord (Hulk Hogan) is about to execute Rin and Bat. And that’s when Ken makes his triumphant return.
Next, the story introduces a new character, Ein, who does everything for “his girl.” At first, Ein is an antagonist, but he soon turns out to be a good guy and ally to Kenshiro. His girl is his 5 year old daughter.
Ken kills a fat bald dwarf.
Bat sneaks away and convinces Ein to join the rebellion.
Ken helps him free some prisoners (including the road warriors) who join the rebellion.
Ken takes Ein’s daughter to safety with Mamiya. (Not really a good idea to send your most powerful warrior on a low-stakes delivery mission) Turns out Mamiya’s village isn’t that safe, as Falco, the celestial monarch, has already killed the elder.
Meanwhile, Falco’s forces have surrounded the Hokuto army and he is threatening to execute Rin. Falco is the most dangerous adversary so far, and Ken is (as usual) nowhere to be seen.

I think this is the first story with Rin and Bat being now adults and Ken being depressed. Beautiful story and great drawings as usual. In the anime here the second series started if I'm not mistaken.
Credo che questa sia la prima storia con Rin e Bat che sono ormai adulti e Ken che é depresso. Bellissima storia e ottimi disegni come al solito. Negli anime qui cominciava la seconda serie se non mi sbaglio.
I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.

Fist of the North Star continues the story of Kenshiro following the defeat of his evil elder brother, Raoh, in the previous volume. Ten years have since passed, with Kenshiro still mourning the loss of his friends and lover at the expense of victory. This volume serves as a bit of a status quo reset for the series, with Vol. 10 being a reasonable jumping off point for readers since it feels conclusive. But with this new volume, new threats emerge calling Kenshiro back into action. For fans of this action-heavy series, Vol. 11 is a solid new start which still continues to excel in the things that made the series work thus far.
Since Raoh's death, Kenshiro has retired into isolation while Rin and Bat carry the torch with respect to serving the helpless peoples of the wastelands. But a new enemy, the Celestial Monarch, emerges and poses sufficient enough threat to make Kenshiro question his own self-imposed exile. A good chunk of this volume is Kenshiro simply moping which admittedly grew stale quickly, but getting his mojo back by being challenged by his own titanic horse, Kokuoh, was a highlight. And of course, the Tetsuo Hara's artwork continues to deliver on the action and violence. This volume has a slow start, but once the stakes become a bit more clear it's an entertaining time.

I must say, I thought I was done with Fist after the conclusion of the main story in Vol 10, but this volume has really pulled me back in. And after crushing a lot of jobbers, Ken finally gets a worthy adversary in the final chapter: Dolph Lundgren!! Err, I mean “Golden Falco”
Lot of Jabba the Hutt references. And my new favorite character is Ein, who drives around in a bulldozer with a built-in divan lounge, dresses like leather daddy Captain America, and wants to fight Ken to impress his girl.
And excellent job as always by translator Joe Yamazaki, who is absolutely killing it.

It’s funny how Hara’s proportions and anatomy are somehow more wonky in the 30th anniversary bonus chapter. Ein is a cool new guy, he has a good dynamic with Kenshiro. I love that Hara seemingly saw a handful of American blockbusters of the time before designing some of the heavies in this stretch. Count ‘em, we’ve got Hulk Hogan and Mr. T from “Rocky III”, Dolph Lundgren from “Rocky IV”, and a Jabba the Hutt guy from “Return of the Jedi”. Fun stuff as usual!

"This shouldn't exist". That was my first thougths as I started reading this volume. And for a few chapters, it felt more and more like that.
But... in the end, this has won me over. This is a changed world, with a different kind of post-apocalypse society. New characters, new dynamics. Old characters with evolved roles. This is a new thing, and I'm interested.

Ten years have passed since the climatic confrontation between Kenshiro and Raoh in volume 10 of Fist of the North Star. Kenshiro was triumphant, but his victory was achieved at a great loss, with the death of his beloved Yuria.
Years after the fall of Raoh, Kenshiro has vanished and Rin and Bat have grown into young adulthood. Attempting to honour Ken’s legacy, they wander the wasteland defending the defenceless. Kenshiro himself now seeks only peace, hiding himself away in an isolated settlement. Tormented by the memories of those he has lost, he tries to give up the way of the fist. But the forces of chaos are always on the horizon, and Kenshiro will once again embrace his fate as the successor of Hokuto Shinken.
The volume opens with a lengthy instalment in which Kenshiro comes to terms with his grief and resumes a more active role in the world. Bat and Rin have a small band who attack slave caravans to free captive children. Things seem to making progress until a new antagonist, called the Celestial Monarch, emerges to threaten things. The book ends on a cliff hanger as the Celestial Monarch proclaims Rin, and not Bat, the leader of their group.
There is some back material where Buronson explains how the post apocalyptic world of Fist of the North Star was inspired by a visit to Cambodia shortly after the end of Pol Pot's bloody regime. He recalls seeing a mountain of bones and that was an image that was seared into his consciousness. It is from that, that the world of Fist of the North Star was born.
Buronson also praises his artist/collaborator Tetsuo Hara. Hara would take his scripts and improve upon them with his brilliant visual style. This is another sold entry in this influential manga series.

3.5/5
It's 2024 and I guess I'm riding this bonkers series to the end. With the main narrative ending in Volume 10, this one opens with a 10 year time jump. Ken has basically retired, having seen too much bloodshed. Rin and Bat has taken up Ken's cause, traveling the wasteland and bringing justice. This doesn't last long, as Ken once again feels the calling. It's a good set up, and it brings in the usual action only it feels even more over the top than before. The new characters are interesting to add to the narrative. The real fun though is figuring out the art "swipes". You'll see a Jabba the Hutt clone dealing with bounty hunters, and the Road Warriors Hawk and Animal from wrestling make their uncredited debut. Which is my way of saying this still manages to be a lot of fun for something so basic.

This jumped ahead in time in a way I wasn't expecting, and then it continued to deliver the Fist of the North Star experience! There's an additional chapter, written for the 30th anniversary, that bridges the gap between the end of Vol 10 and the start of this one. Apparently when this was first written, the 10 year time leap just happens, leaving a lot of information out.
It's such an interesting choice to make, and I can't imagine reading it in real time, seeing Ken walk off into the sunset and then getting the next volume and BAM Rin and Bat are adults and Ken is nowhere to be seen...
I'm not sure how many more of these there will be. I thought there were only going to be 12 volumes, so I guess it's possible that the book finished not long after that time jump, which does make sense, considering the story really does end satisfactorily at the end of Vol 10.

The story fast forwards 10 years. Rin and Bat are rebel leaders. Ken is a sad hermit. Ein is an interesting character addition, the bounty hunter with a heart, although his employer certainly gave off Jaba vibes. Falco reminds me of Draco from the Rocky movies. The artwork is still incredible, but the story is losing its luster a bit for me. Maybe it's the same tropes, I don't know. I thought volume 10 was a great way to wrap things up.

Like spending time with an old friend
Reading Festival Northstar it's like spending time with an old friend you haven't seen for a very long time. Always a pleasure to catch up and always fun to see what they've been doing since the last time you saw that one. And this is what reading Fist of the North Star is for me.

Great illustrations. Incredibly violent, and needlessly so (but still less than Battle Angel Alita). A classic, written by the master himself, Buronson. Hara's etchings are particularly amazing in this volume.

I probably should have jumped off after the main arc finished with volume 10 but why not follow along the bonkers death and destruction for a bit longer.

Another good one in a very good series! We get further in time so it was interesting to see young characters getting into adulthood. Great fight, villains and action. I love it!

Great Volume! The new 30th anniversary special chapter is a great addition to this epic story and it answers a very important unanswered question in the series.
