Boystown series by Jake Biondi is fast-food for brain. You know it is not healthy, but you CAN'T stay away from it.
I read the third book in 2015, and I swear, I would immediately read the next book, but it wasn't yet published. And one year later I completely forgot about the series.
And now, three years later, I'm again in a soap drama mode! Yeah!
This series shows you that also an excessively exaggerated story could make you addictive, and lies, cheating on all levels through all genders, affairs, death threats, crazy turns and roll-eyes twists, struggle for power, love, a lot of sex and a bombastic cliffhanger at the end will leave you craving for more!
You don't have any choice than to pick up the next book. No, not because of the prose, but because you just NEED to KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. As if your life depends on it.
I had some problem at the beginning to get into the story again (actually there are more than just one story), because my last Boystown lies at least 3 years back. To remind myself who was who I had to scroll through the previous sequels, and it slowed down the fast-paced ride.
One can (maybe) complain about the writing (it is not a masterpiece, but I doubt you expect it looking at this cover), but it is impossible to ignore the entertaining factor. It is pretty HIGH!

If you have followed this series, it will be an easy decision to continue on as the format remains the same with visible influences from fast-paced television dramas. I keep gravitating to the style of this story and the ability of Biondi to keep so many characters and so many storylines in play at the same time. The storylines continue on, overlap, and create a tapestry of lies and deceit that build from one season to the next. With all of that, however, this season did not exhilarate me as much as the previous three.
The ending though, Biondi pulls it off once again with an action packed and dramatic cliffhanger ending that leaves many cast members in peril. I will now be anxiously awaiting Season Five which is scheduled for release in June 2016.

I’ve learned something surprising about myself reading the BOYSTOWN series. I’m bloodthirsty. Yes, I know these are characters in a book and not real people, but I’ve never wished for someone to die so bad before. ;) The thing to first understand about this series is that it’s quite unlike most m/m books out there. It would probably be considered LGBT fiction. There is plenty of sex in the book, between gay and straight couples alike. There is also a touch of romance. But mostly it is drama; soap opera worthy antics fill the story. Scenes in the story cut in and out like they might in a daytime drama. You don’t really get to feel what the characters feel and take a walk in their shoes, but the reader is a voyeur to the insanity. It is addicting and maddening at the same time.
When we left off in Season 3, it was a pretty big cliffhanger. Most of the couples we met in Season 1 had been flipped and flopped and changed around. The ever expanding cast of characters was celebrating the opening of Max and Emmett’s new restaurant/club before Ben locked them all in and set fire to it. Unfortunately for him he was also trapped. Would this be the end of him like I hoped? It certainly appeared so. Derek, Emmett’s brother, was not at the club but his future was threatened as we see him shot. The few characters not shot or left in a burning building were the ones I couldn’t stand, and I really hoped would be in danger.
As Season 4 starts we see party-goers trying to free themselves from their doom, and all but one person makes it out of the fire. But many are injured. Derek is found and brought to the hospital as well. From there on out, it was business as usual in BOYSTOWN. That means cheating, lying, and manipulating, Mostly. Of course there are some people being kind to one another and the rebuilding of the restaurant. Keith, Emmett, Max, Cole, Justin, Gino, Derek, Joyelle, David, Logan, Tyler, Cole, Michael, and Jesse all return from the previous books.Jensen and Dustin who were introduced in season 3 were also back though their places in the drama are still to be determined. Rachel, Marco, and Carlo, who have proved to be nothing but manipulative troublemakers so far are also present in this book. There are a few additions to the story. Mateo joins the hospital staff. He is Michael’s brother but they aren’t particularly close. His son also Hector comes to Boystown with him. Adam is also briefly in the story. He seems to be an ex of Dustin’s and possibly looking to stir things up, but his part is small yet. We will have to see.
The three characters I like most in the story are Michael, Cole, and Emmett. Michael is a good cop. He seems really decent. Cole did sleep with Derek while knowing he was married and proceeded to follow him to Chicago. However, he seems like he is just following his heart. In a series where people are intentionally trying to hurt and/or kill others his love for the wrong man seems relatively harmless. Emmett is the epitome of a good guy. He has never done anything to hurt a soul in the story at all. Somehow that means anything bad that happens usually happens to him. Even though these men are constantly hurt by others they remain pure of heart and I love the sanity they bring to the story.
There are definitely troublemakers and baddies in the story. Derek is a cheater and will stoop pretty low to get what he wants. Keith has done some bad things in his past that are causing him to do some pretty dubious things in the present. Jensen lived on the streets before meeting Emmett and he can be bought easily but he genuinely regrets his actions. Gino and Justin were both troublesome before they fell for each other. Max is also a cheater and Logan is an alcoholic. These guys have done things that have really made me angry with them. I want to see them taken down a peg, but ultimately they all seem redeemable. Marco and Carlo are more questionable. I haven’t seen anything truly honest about their actions. They have tried to hurt many people, they have used many too. Rachel is the most awful character of the series. Not awful like the author did a bad job writing her, but he wrote her so well as the villain that I keep hoping she will die. I can’t see her getting better in any situation whatsoever. She has tried and tried to bring people down. In some ways she has succeeded, but her personal goals have tended to fail. That won’t stop her though. If one plan falls through she will make another, and you can bet it will be worse.
With those drama bringers you can also bet that there is a cliffhanger ending in this story as well. Max and Emmett, and Justin and Gino are having a double wedding in California, but trouble seems to be in the cards for them as they get on the plane. A car driven by a character hits one of the other characters when he tries to save a third character. Logan’s depression hits a new low. Also, Derek’s past comes to haunt him again but this time it’s going to effect someone he cares about. It was BOYSTOWN series worthy ending. As much as I wish that some characters will see the light and for some to die, I must admit I am addicted to the drama. I definitely recommend the entire series.

On this season of The Young and Messy aka Boystown…
Well, we pick up where we left off in season three. Perfect. It’s so much that goes on in the book. Let me just begin by saying that this group of friends really needs to reexamine the meaning of the word.
Max: “We don’t have room for toxic people in our lives.”
Wait—say what now? Everyone in that group would qualify as toxic!
With the amount of shade and drama, foolishness and mayhem this group generates with each other they all should move to opposite corners of the world. They shouldn’t call, write, email, voicemail, sign language, or even smoke signal each other. They are just that trifling.
The relationships of the individuals in this group of frenemies is so tangled, so messy, and the shenanigans these guys pull is absolutely fabulous! It’s soap opera deliciousness on every page.
Secrets and lies are finally revealed which affect everyone in this group of ‘frenemies’. There are plot twists and turns for days with each new secret revealed juicier and more shocking than the one before it. This book is chock full of lies, infidelity, blackmail, secrets, attempted murder, and overall ratchet-ness; there are so many ICE (I Can’t Even) moments in this book…it’s unreal.
In this season, Max’s good guy façade finally slips, Derek is still an ass, Logan begins to spiral downward again, and Keith’s secrets are revealed. Justin changes for the better and Emmett is still as Pollyanna as ever. Joyelle turns into the perfect candidate for a Maury paternity show—her big reveal I did NOT see coming.
And of course, Marco, not to be outdone, drops a bombshell of his own.
The villains step up their game to even deadlier levels. Rachel Carson is beyond insane. Actually, I’m hoping that next season has her being mowed down by a bus or eaten by pack of rabid dogs. New characters are introduced with surprising connections to the core group.
This series is way better than the soaps on television. Biondi’s Boystown series is this fantastic mixture of 80s Dynasty drama with a modern LGBT twist to it that is absolutely brilliant. I could not stop reading this book once I started and it’s been that way with this entire series. His writing isn’t just good, it’s superb!
These characters are so DELICIOUSLY messy, shameless, low down and dirty, scheming and trifling. It is GLORIOUS. The twists and turns in this book are non-stop and will keep you on your toes from page one to page four hundred and eighty.
Biondi has a way of spinning a story that will keep you positively glued to that book. I didn’t stop reading until I finished the entire book. I finished reading it two hours after receiving it. It was just that damn good.
If there was ever a series that needed to be made into YouTube or even a made-for-DVD type thing, this series is it. I highly recommend this to everyone.

Hold on to your seat, Season Four has arrived, and all I can say is buckle up because you are in for one heck of a ride!!!! I was generously given an early copy to read, which had me chomping at the bit to this write this review!!! This season is so full of surprises I couldn't even begin to list them all. We start with the aftermath of the fire, and the repercussions it has on the characters. From there we have an engagement, someone cheats ( more than once..ooops) a major one that I can't say because it's a HUGE spoiler, someone is pregnant and wait....WHO did you say the daddy was??? (this one was Jake's finest twists yet!!), a hot newcomer from someones past, revelations and reconciliations, a double wedding is planned, and of course the best of all....the moment that made me scream and jump up from my chair (yes I totally did that). This Season is AMAZING!!!!!! Mr. Biondi truly outdid himself with this season, it's everything and MORE!!!!

OMG Boystown is getting better and better with each episode. Man this episode was freaking incredible! Jake keeps you on your toes with each new episode.
In season four we got to meet some new characters that were kick arse and we got to see the boys we love. I mean there was unplanned pregnancies, to new loves, to break ups no one seen coming and best of all the secrets and lies that tore through each couple.
I mean I was like damn every chapter because someone was hiding something or they had hidden agendas and oh yeah the big holy hell was some people we thought were dead came back and some boys we love are gone or maybe not because Jake keeps us on our feet. I need Episode five like ASAP! It comes out June 01, 2016 and I will read all night until I am done.

WOWJake...You did it again, the book blew my mind, so good!! I couldn't put the book down, it was full of surprises & a bit emotional. I can't believe it ended in a dang good cliffhanger again! Need Season 5 ASAP;)

OMG! Reading this season has so much drama in it, it's not even funny. It is very intense! Like I said, lots of drama and some hot sex in it. I can imagine watching the shows on Shotime. This is an awesome read but definitely a cliffhanger at the end. What's going to happen now for the next season?

Enjoyable as mindless entertainment, but things start to wear off a bit.
It simply is more of the same: more unexpected family ties, more headless breakups, sex is up to three rounds, more people walking around the same room having half-baked conversations with each other.
I find that the way people/lovers/family members speak with each other very often resembles the tone of business meetings. But then, that is exactly what this is, they are all screwing each other over in moving constellations. And that is indeed fun to read.

Boys town season 4 is just as amazing as the last three books. It is action packed, can't put down, something happening around every corner type of book. I love all of the characters but my favs include Logan, Michael, Keith, Cole, Max, and Derek. I love all the characters but those r my favorite ones and can't wait to see what happens in the next book. Great read!!

More drama and suspense - like a literary version of the bold and the beautiful. Easy and compelling reading made more enjoyable by referencing many parts of Chicago I was able to visit when I was there.

I’m loving the series. It is somewhat predictable. Soap opera style.

**** 4 still soap drama stars ****
It's been a few days since I finished reading this series, only getting to reviewing now.
I'm taking a leaf out of these books, and cheat, reviewing both Season 4 and 5 in one. I hope I won't get shot, thrown off a balcony, get cheated on, exploded, kidnapped, poisoned, run over by a car, passenger in an airplane crash, stabbed, loose the feeling in my feet, go blind, get pregnant, miscarry, engaged, married, no wait, that (almost) never happens.

(this is the old cover. The new one is prettier, but this, I think, shows of the overwhelmingly number of hot and perfect guys in Boystown. LOL)
It might be soap opera 101, but I'm still impressed with Biondi's ability to continue weaving an intricate net of characters and story lines, with lies, deceit, cheating, love, engagements, pregnancies etc, that shifts continuously! And continues to surprise, frustrate, eye roll, and love. You can get dizzy, though.
Biondi's stories are like a drug. You can't help but get drawn in, get involved, and crave more. I think the seasons are getting better too. I recon is has something to do with this series starting out as online shorts, where he wrote and posted an episode (chapter) gradually, but then the readers wanting more, so the episodes evolved into books, hence getting more, I don't know, fluidity (?) to the stories. He's actually inspired by Charles Dickens whose novels were originally released in installments, each ending in a cliffhanger to keep readers coming back for more.

He definitely manages that! Biondi is the king of cliffhangers! All the season have ended in huge cliffhangers, with season 5 may have been the biggest one!
Can't wait for Season 6 to be published, which is supposed to be soon!

I don’t want to give anything away so I’m not going to talk about the plot too much. Long story short, they are two feuding families and everybody around them is getting caught in the crossfire in all sorts of ways. I also love the way he ties real-world problems that plague our community while adding a level of suspended disbelief. Just know that, after reading Book/Season 1, things go from bad to worse and the ride keeps going faster and faster. There are little spaces for breathing because there’s always something happen and each chapter/episode is left on a cliffhanger.

I keep saying this but this season was amazing! Season three left us with a great cliff hanger which meant I was desperate to pick up season four and I wasn't disappointed. This series moves along and just as I think I've worked out what's about to happen Jake Biondi puts a twist in no one will see coming utterly brilliant! These books are addictive and I'll say it again Jake Biondi has an amazing imagination. The cliff hangers in season one two and three have been brilliant but season fours cliff hanger is genius!! This is the best addiction ever! Can't wait to get my hands on season five.
