Conflicted.
Because boy, that escalated rather quickly.

+ Not a fan of the writing and the short sentences; it's not a very smooth read but once you get used to it and the story picks up, it's easier to forget about it.
+ Beware, the ending. It's not a cliffhanger per se; it might open a new chapter but another one was closed. But... it's a bad ending. One that will make you angry, shock you, sadden you, and most likely blow your mind, none of that in a good way and I'm guessing I will be waiting for a huge plot twist in the next installment to break out of my stupor.

Still conflicted. It's different, it's dark, it's rather addictive. It's Sector 1 and 2 thrown in the Hunger Games with a splash of romance. I'm curious about the rest of the story but also wish I had never read it.

I don’t think it even deserves one damn star. It’s a train wreck. What in the flying hell is this? No, seriously… I was excited about this and it’s like a bomb went off from the beginning. I couldn’t finish it because if the rest is like the first 13%, it’s going to be terrible and extremely hard to read.

Choppy sentences, weird weird weird weird!

You go from a girl running away, to being drugged and abducted in the middle of a coffee shop in broad daylight. Then dead people hanging and bleeding everywhere, saving some random girl, finding the road, getting naked and passing out in bed, waking up to go live with the social workers parents, bizarre ass parents leave within minutes of meeting her, borrowing the foster brothers clothes and going to sleep, waking up and being mauled by a bunch of dudes while a party is happening, stripped naked, deciding to go shopping in a t shirt (why isn’t she wearing her freaking pants?!) weird ass sexual tension straight away with multiple dudes…. And that’s just like 30 freaking pages in!!! Seriously, there’s no real calm. It’s just thrown at you back to back!

THERE IS WAY TOO MUCH RANDOM CRAP HAPPENING! It’s just WTF DID I JUST READ? I can’t process this. Just no. How did anyone finish this and how in the hell does it have such high ratings?!

I just don't think this book was for me. It felt a little too all over the place with so much going on. And so much was happening that there were things that didn't feel like they got enough attention and became confusing. It's only book one of a series but I don't think I'll be coming back to read the rest.

Wow….DNF

They are 17 but act like they are all 11. The VERY first time they meet her, they wake her up, hold her down on her bed and strip her naked, all the while joking about raping her. All because she went into one of the guys rooms for clothes to wear……

And don’t even get me started on all the OW drama. All the guys are manwhores who constantly have a different girl hanging on them or sitting in their laps. Everyone is unlikeable and I found everything boring. Can’t even tell you how many times I rolled my eyes. Stopped reading it after they found out she was ‘the love of their lives they thought they lost’ but continued to still sleep with OW. One guy was actually angry he got interrupted with OW lol

Oh yeeeah, i love the heroin Jolie she knows what she wants and has no problem kick someones ass, is smart which i like. I dived into this book with no expectations really and i ended up with really liking it.
So first we got Boston, Laughn, Case, Marlow, and Davis who is the guys, all of em are so different but i got to say that i guess the crazy is my current fave out of the guys, who is Laughan. I need more of that dark delicious craziness! Then we got the handlers and social workers, Brennan, Trace, Creed (well hello second crazy brother ;) ) Kai, and Chester! Hello plot twist number two. Swoon
That damn ending, i freaking new i should have waited until i knew the release of the next book....

🥉 3 Quality of Writing + Plot Stars
🚫 0 (Zero) Enjoyment Stars

I downloaded this book because of a recommendation I got in my RH Facebook group. I feel like I was mislead. This book has all the things that I hate in romance books so there was a very little chance I would have ever enjoyed reading this.

First of all, this is a bully romance, and the guys are awful to the FMC. They restrain and then sexually assault her more than once! There is no coming back from that.

Second of all, instead of writing this like a love story, the author has written the FMC as more of a whore than a girl in love. There was absolutely no romance here. There was a lot of sex, but it was gross to be honest. Every single character had random one night stands with a bunch of other people outside the harem. They all used sex as a way to manipulate each other. Add in the sexual assault and you’ve got a real winner here!

Also, offering sex to literally anybody you meet is disgusting. This girl offers it up to everyone/anyone, including people not in her harem. And the men are all disgusting manwhores who sleep with a lot of other women openly.

I had a hard time reading and finishing this book. I mostly wish I had never picked it up The twisty cliffhanger at the end was dumb and I hated it.

The only person I liked in this story was Creed and we barely see him.

- 👀 Multiple fist person POV
- ❤️ Contemporary RH
- 👥 10 men in prospective harem
- 🔥 fast burn…the icky fast burn where she sleeps with her rapists/tormentors
- 🌶 1/5 spicy stars…there is a lot of sex in this book, but I was disgusted by most of it.
- ‼️ CW: Lots and lots of OW/OM (sex with OW/OM), sexual assault and bullying by harem, betrayals and lies by everyone (harem included), kidnapping, PTSD, trauma…
- 🫦 kinks: there is some blood play and violent sex

I don’t understand the rave reviews…

I couldn’t finish this book, the premise in the blurb sounded promising but the author desperately needed to flesh out the story more (in ways that don’t include sexual tension with the five boys who are walking, talking cliches with weird fashion sense. I don’t understand the emphasis on the Air Jordan’s? Of all things!) and there seems to have been little to no editing. The secondary characters might as well be robots for how believable and cliche they are. I can’t understand how this is getting so many great reviews!

Would not recommend, although the story idea had a lot of potential.

i don't really understand how this book has such high ratings. the writing was barely coherent, and it had too many inconsistencies to count.
not to mention that the characters are 17-18yo with face tattoos and dick piercings agfjshkfbdkfbdjfbd

the characters were insanely immature and unlikable half the time.
the heroine is supposed to come across as sex positive, i guess?? but really she's a 17yo girl who's unbelievably self-destructive and reckless. like when she has to choose between three parties to go to, and she immediately chooses the one described as "sketchy". and then she shows up, alone, and gets super drunk with strange men she doesn't know. idk why she was portrayed as the personification of Girl Power lol, she was literally just stupid as hell. she never made one good decision, and it kept being played off as "women get to do what they want, hell yes female empowerment!!!" and im here like, she's a 17yo orphan in foster care, let's not pretend that her self-destructive sex life is a positive thing

the Hs were terrible in the beginning, threatening to rape her, touching her without permission, forcing girls at parties to take their clothes off, etc., etc.. i almost DNF'ed at 15% bc that's not my kind of thing.
they got better after they figured out the heroine's real identity though. their interactions with the heroine actually turned very deep and moving. not to mention that the Hs become super protective and possessive. that was probably my favorite thing about this book.
but im still not gonna continue the series. 90% of that decision isn't bc of the characters though, it's more bc the plot is all over the place and the writing is a mess.
i did like that the harem was gonna be 10 men. it's rare to find a RH with that big of a harem.

oof

Wtf even is this? DNFd at 13% because this is a joke. Coffee to kidnapped to running into her case worker in the middle of nowhere and barely any questions? I was like mmm okay whatever but the brother and his friends? No. You get forcefully stripped and threatened w grape by these guys along w other bull crap and your somehow turned on by them? No. Saying “nIcE gUyS dOnT dO iT fOr Me” is the biggest cop out. As a Kiwi I’m mad that I’m DNFing an Aussie author but ooooof to the bin this goes

This was my first read from this author and its definitely an intriguing and readworthy series to begin with!

As With alot of my reads, I went in pretty blind and I feel this is the best way with this one, so will try to not give much away here!

Our FMC is Jolie, who is18 in a couple of months and in the foster system. She believes she was in a car accident a few years ago and was rescued by her friend, Trace. She can't remember anything else from before it. After getting a simple note that she believes is from Trace come to rescue her at last, she leaves the current foster home to meet at the cafe point.

Only to be drugged.....

This is the start of a weird, almost down the rabbit hole for Jolie as she goes thru struggle after struggle and uncovers lie after lie, and discovering hidden truths everywhere.  And still doesn't know if what she knows is everything she *should* know and if everything is the truth!!

Her case workers parents end up being her foster parents and she ends up living with her -now- ex-case worker, Brennan and his younger brother, Boston. And more often than not, Bostons odd friends Laughn, Davis, Case and Marlow are there too.

The story of who everyone is, including Jolie herself unfolds slowly and its done perfectly. There are times  especially at the beginning when I was a little lost, but the writing was so good I couldn't put it down. Then it would all just click, so if you do struggle, stick with it, I promise you it's worth it!

The 5 boys each have a strong, unique personality that matches Jolie perfectly. At first they wanted to get rid of her and fast. Boston even set a bet that if she could sleep with all the GOD'S she could go where she wanted, if she couldn't he would be in charge....But once they're told who she is and her importance....things change quickly. I have to admit to having a stronger liking to Laughn! I found him mega scary at first, especially with the tongue! But as time goes on, not so much!

This is a reverse harem, and they all defintely have the heat and spark when they get together! Not as much romance as yet but you don't miss it with the awesome storyline- trust me!!

The end has an almighty cliffhanger!!! One of those in which I really need book two...NOW!!!!
Having said that....I dont think the ending is the end we think it is! (Cryptic but you'll see!!)

A good start to an interesting series!!

I received a copy of the ebook in return for an honest review

This story felt so unique to me. To be honest though I had completely forgotten it was about genetically modified people until quite a way in through. It started like any late high school bully dark-romance drama.

But, I was hooked as soon as the secrets started to be revealed.

There is definitely a number of spicy scenes but they’re not that detailed or dark.

The Australian humor and terms were really fun although I really struggled with the delivery of the audio. (Which is rare for me).

The ending… WTF. My heart stopped! I’m totally on board for what Jolie will do now.

Rough, Gritty, Confusing and a wild ride

Honestly I love books where I’m slightly confused but with good reason bc our FMC is in the dark. That makes it so much more fun to try to figure out what is going on, who the bad guys are and what’s going to happen next.

All the things I found out are intriguing. When Jolie first beds some of the guys I was skeeved out because of their type of play, and bc she had legit it felt like just met them. But I did read the author’s notes before reading so I took the, to heart, maybe Jolie was acting on instinct she’s unaware she has.

I have no idea or clue where any of this is going. I’m still in disbelief of the ending. I just don’t see the guys doing that but then again we didn’t really get to know this other grouping.

I’m intrigued enough to continue to see how this plays out.

Very poorly executed

Another good idea ruined by poor writing, which was stilted and choppy and didn't flow at all well, nor did most of it make sense. While the basic premise caught me, conceptually, the plot had HUGE holes in it and was all over the place, so my interest began dying very quickly. The excerpts from the story included in the synopsis about how concerned they were about her made me want to get to that portion of the story but given how they behaved like complete rapist scum, I lost any desire to complete this book. Dark is fine but the male leads shouldn't be sexually assaulting the female and expecting us to get on board with that being a reasonable basis for any kind of romantic relationship, besides the fact is none of these guys should have a relationship other than between an inmate and guard during a prison sentence.

And for as much as the author tried to make this female lead out to be some tough and street-savvy wise-ass, she was just an irritating, hypocritical, sarcastic idiot to me who slut-shamed other females for doing the same sorts of things she was doing as well (pot-kettle-black girlie), trusted too much way too soon in the wrong people, didn't think through obvious issues in scenarios she found herself in, and was too stupid to think her way out of a paper bag. A phobia of cardboard and cotton balls, you're kidding, right? But what took the cake was her saying she couldn't feel sorry for the cotton underwear girl they forced to strip in order to give her clothes because she couldn't feel sorry for someone who didn't know the guys she was with weren't good people, hypocrite much? And any writer who uses the phrase "my traitorous body" is lazy. Describing the female lead, I have a phrase for you, "shallow much?"

Another frustration with a female lead was the frequent declarations of anger and promises of revenge or retribution which never went anywhere. She swears after the sexual assault she's going to make the guys pay and she never does a thing; several times she swears she's going to get even or take some action only to proceed as if nothing ever happened and it makes her seem like somebody who is all mouth and no action, talks big and never delivers.

As much as this is supposed to be a smut book, the sex scenes were incongruous, plopped in out of nowhere, and didn't fit with the action previous or following. Even though I like a fair bit of spice I'd like it to make sense in the plot and flow with the storyline instead of being gratuitous sex scenes thrown in out of nowhere as if trying to meet some quota, or force fit scenarios in that she dreamed up ahead of time and has to wedge in somehow.

So why did I characterize the writing style as stilted and choppy? Well, in the beginning of the book, each sentence seems almost as a standalone, incomplete, choppy thought plopped in one after another with no true cohesion for the paragraph. Even after the sentences/paragraphs themselves smooth out, the major scenes have no segway to the next major scenario, and little lead in, lacking details that would develop the storyline and help it flow from one major scene to the next. It ends up feeling almost as if each scenario is independent and plopped into place with little development in between, so you're missing the who-what-when-where-why-how BETWEEN and LEADING UP TO scenes/chapters that every author should be providing for readers and which really helps develop the characters and the story itself. It's just thin in between major scenarios, causing the reader to often wonder where this scenario came from and how it fits in with the rest of the story. Eventually, you can mentally fit it in yourself, but the details aren't being provided by the author.

Insofar as the holes in the plot the best way to explain that is to give an example: toward the end of the book the scene in which Jolie is dropped off at the test field after the meeting with Mr Z comes as a bit of a surprise because you don't know why she was dropped there. We know the guys are getting "tested" as punishment and we know she was free to go, but there's no lead-in discussion or inner monologues, it's just kind of suddenly happens and she's running around trying to stop the teams from fighting -- there was no indication that this was going to happen she just leaves the meeting and next thing you know she's running around trying to find the guys. The author really needs to go through some of the staple books and examine the lead-in and segue between each major scenario and chapter, how the authors set up each major scene explaining the who-what-when-where-why-how, the feelings, expectations, reasons for getting there, the expectation of how they're going to go from there, which is all missing in this book. It's interesting enough that I will go on to the next volume, but I'm disappointed in so much of this (the opening sexual assault), I can't really rate it that well.

This has got to be one of the worst books I have ever read.
The writing is choppy, very little detail, the girl is an idiot, and the storyline so far is terrible.
She literally gets kidnapped, gets away somehow that is barely explained, then her friend just happens to find her out in the middle of nowhere? He barely asks any questions and they just continue on with life as normal???? Also why was the waitress a bitch just because she gave her a lid for her coffee???

Thanks given to Jaye Pratt for the ARC provided in exchange for my honest review.

I fell in love with Jaye's writing in 'Boys Like You' and she has certainly delivered with her unexpected plot lines and twists yet again! G.O.D.S comes in at a 4.5/5 for me!

I'm so invested in Jolie and uncovering the inner workings of the organisation. There's something more to Mr. Z's brother for sure and I look forward to seeing more of the other teams too.

Now, the guys. Brennan, Boston, Creed and Laughn caught my attention the most but I really want to experience more Marlow and Case!

As for the ending? Yeah, cliffhanger warning! That ending is not where I saw things going early or mid book and I'm sitting here coming up with all the ways book two is going to subvert it. C'mon, it can't be like that; I simply don't accept it! Haha. Try not to throw your kindle, 'kay?

The only reason I'm marking this at 4.5 and not 5 is because a few of the character interactions felt shallow. I think it's because Jolie doesn't respond the way you'd expect and while the reason for this is explained it threw me a touch in those earlier moments.

It genuinely took me a while to work out what the hell was going on in this book. I kinda liked that it kept you guessing from start to finish though.

Jolie (FMC) is a complete smart*** and bad*** too. I loved her. Having been in and out of children homes and foster families she has a year left before shes out on her own. Which ends up her being placed and spending that with the family of her social worker - Brennan. Where she comes face to face with his brother - Boston and his friends - Laughn, Davis, Case and Marlow who try their level best to provoke her. Whilst still looking for her friend - Trace.

I could not put this book down. The plot twists and turns as well as the secrets and lies were just outstanding!! Only that ending had me wanting to drop kick my kindle!! Im going to be on tenterhooks until the next book now. This book was so bloody good and a cracking read

I AM IN DENIAL ABOUT THE ENDING. Just no! NO NO NO! There had better be a plan that we don’t know about.

G.O.D.S. is such a great book. @jayeprattauthor did a wonderful job of keeping all the moving pieces going in such a way that the reader can’t help but keep turning pages.

While the main characters are called GODS because of the program they are a part of, there is ONE person who acts as a real god with their lives. You never know what’s real and what’s a test. Failing a test could mean death and passing simply means you get further and further into the organization.

I love this kind of sci-fi since it is based in our world. The characters go to school, they train, they fall in love. I can suspend my belief enough to believe in genetic engineering and be happy in the story.

I’m DYING for the next in the series.

Reverse Harem isn’t always something I turn too but if it’s by Jaye Pratt I jump right in!

G.O.D.S definitely pushes the boundaries and is one HOTT and WILD ride that you will not want to get off of! From start to finish you’re tangled in a web and don’t know who to trust! You’re on this quest with our beautiful heroine as she navigates the world she finds herself in! It’s a memorable story filled with so many gloriously sexy characters that you become jealous of Jolie (or is that just me?)!

Being new to Ms.Pratt's work I've been looking so forward to picking up her books! As soon as i stumbled across a post about this one on social media i knew i had to read it first! I enjoyed it!

Jolie's journey had my attention from the start! I was pulled in quickly. I really liked how i wasn't sure what all was going to happen and how it kept me on my toes. I felt so many different things with all of the characters and i enjoyed that.

With G.O.D.S., Ms.Pratt has created such a good read! I can't wait for more!

That ending - I don’t even know…WTF! Jolie has no memories of her childhood, just the last few years since an accident. She has one protector, but she was put into foster care and hasn’t seen him since. When she gets a message she thinks is from him, she jumps at the chance to see him, but finds herself in a new situation with lots of messed up secrets. The guys are kind of jerks, although each is definitely intriguing in their own way. But again - that ending! I’m hoping there is more to it and it wasn’t really what it seems like - I will definitely need book 2 ASAP!

love

These boys are crazy, in the best ways. I love how Jaye writes her guys. She really highlights what makes a RH work so well. Her guys have distinct personalities which translates to what our heroine needs and it’s done so well!

“Hmmm,” Laughn mumbles. “I can smell your arousal, baby. I think someone is a bit of a freak like me.”
— G.O.D.S : Gifted. Obedient. Deadly. Students. by Jaye Pratt

Should Laughn have been my favorite? No.
Is he the blond instalove? Also no.
Is he the one I can’t stop thinking about? YES!
The twists and turns and surprises are all here in this book. Contemporary with a bit of sci-fi thrown in makes this book fun and different!
I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

"It's destined that some people are just born to be fuck ups. Not everyone is lucky enough to get a silver spoon."

I went into this book not having much of an idea of what this book was really about. It was so different from what i was expecting it to be, and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this! 😍

I really love the confidence and sass of the FMC she makes me giggle. 🤭 The G.O.D.S are absolutely drool worthy! 🤤 Overall, the whole concept and story is actually so interesting, and I am invested. 😬

I am very keen to see how the story continues from here, especially after that crazy as heck ending... Like, WTF just happened!?!?!?!?! 😱 MY BOYS! 😭 But just like Jaye said at the go in blind and trust the process.... I'm trusting you, Jaye! 😜

Seems like this series is going to be my next binge read! 🙌🏻
