I'll Be Your Wolf

Rate this book
As a lone wolf, I’ve been out on my own for a long time.
I keep my distance from humans and stay hidden in the woods, making sure I never get too close.

Until the day I find her lying on the forest floor, beaten, broken, alone.
I never expected my mate to be a human, or so beautiful. Everything about her makes me want to mark her and claim her as mine. But I can’t, I won’t. Not yet.

Things get worse when she tries to escape, and the wolf in me breaks free, revealing the beast beneath. My mate can run, but she can never hide.

*** This is a short and steamy novella including dark elements. Story ends in a HEA. ***

Emma is kidnapped by her ex foster father.
She was left in the forest to die.
Cole, a wolf shifter, smells her, being his mate, he can sense her.
It was a nice story.
But Emma was too quick to change her mind after the bite, she had more motives to accept Cole as her mate.
The bite seemed a spell, not a true mate, and that's why I can't rate more.
I didn't like that.
It was good, but at that point, it ruined the story for me.

This short story had an identity crisis...it couldn't decide if it wanted to be a mystery, a dark romance or a sweet story. But it had potential.

This one.. I had a hard time liking Cole.. because I felt he was a big ol hypocrite. He got mad at the thought of his woman his mate Emma was injured and bloody and almost raped. By her stepfather.. but he pushed and sexual assaulted Emma.. twice!! She said no both times fought him and he even said he was ashamed of himself.. that it was a better choice then what the wolf planned.. and when he bit her all was forgiven.. everything.. like are you for real?

But atleast Cole got his revenge on the guy.

Om drama (her step father), drama, sexy times, no virgins

This story opens with a bang! From the beginning we are thrust into the action and it never lets up. Emma is kidnapped and nearly killed before Cole rescues her and brings her home. To Cole he's found his fated mate and nothing is going to keep him away from her. To Emma, she's been kidnapped by a psycho.

This is a dark romance with a happy ending and a bunch of sinfully entertaining noncon moments in between. This story has definitely made it onto my reread list!!

As a side note, if you have read Wild by DD Prince you'll enjoy this story seeing as how it follows a tamer version of the same vein. Nothing like that scene at the party in Wild happen in here.

Star Rating : 4/5 Stars

Cliffhanger : None

Pace of the story : fast

Review :
Cole and Emma were perfect! I have read other books by this author and they never fail to stun me with their amazing dose of darkness! The books are perfectly written and dark as hell which is the perfect combo for me.

This one was a bit of a short read but I loved it nonetheless. Cole was the most dominant alpha type wolf who had found his mate in this sweet woman named emma. Emma was confused at first about Cole and his aloof personality but she didn’t know the true nature of that man and how he was actually a wolf.

The storyline was good and the steamy scenes were perfect. I loved the way the author gave us those hunter prey vibes with the characters. I would definitely recommend this as a fast read to all the dark romance loving people out there!

This is a shifter romance novella that is short and spicy with a few dark elements. Cole is a wolf shifter who has been on his own and comes across Emma, his human mate, who is badly beaten and unconscious. Cole immediately takes Emma back to his cabin to keep her safe in all ways possible. Cole and Emma start off rocky and don’t exactly see eye to eye, especially since Emma has no idea what is going on and she’s human with no idea of wolfs or mates. Emma and Cole are fated mates and get their happy ending but it wasn’t too easy on either side. I think I would’ve liked this book even more if there were a few more things explained or feelings weren’t so abrupt. I love shifter romances and the world building/explaining in them so I would’ve loved to understand how wolf shifters and mate bondings in this book work. I did enjoy this novella but I would’ve liked to see more from it.

Non con-quick- wolf shifter -mates-primal

-delicious non con
-H is primal bc he’s been alone since he was a pup
-h was beaten and left for dead when H finds her and she wakes in a cabin in the woods with a guy who says she can’t leave lol.
-Instalove AFTER he marks her
-story was quick and honestly would have made a better book if it was longer. It had all the good key parts but jammed together bc it was small.
-Wolf shifter H and human h.
-steamy dirty talk when he does it (the end for sure)

My Rating: 3 stars!

**ARC was generously provided in exchange for my honest review.**

As the blurb mentions, this was a short dark romance story. What it doesn’t mention is it contains serious subject matter that may be triggering for some readers, such as kidnapping, sexual abuse (including non-consensual sex), and violence.

I have not read anything by Darcy Rose before. It was the blurb (along with the pretty cover) that had me intrigued with wanting to read this story. But I’m not going to lie, after having read it, there were a lot things I hadn’t expected from the storyline that ultimately made me rate this book the way I did.

Both the main characters; Emma and Cole were likable on some level but a lot of their mindset and reasoning behind their actions didn’t quite make sense or was just off-putting for my taste. I get that this is a fated mates romance but Cole’s human mentality wavered on several occasions throughout that had me cringing. Same went for Emma. There were moments when I thought her feelings were relatable and authentic for the ordeal she’s been forced into but then out of nowhere her actions would contradict it and she’d be okay with what was happening. 🤔

I’ve read plenty of romance novellas but despite their short length still managed to create world-building, set a gripping atmosphere, a flowing storyline, and gradual character growth. Unfortunately I’ll Be Your Wolf fell a little short in my opinion in all those elements. It had a good start, getting you a little curious about Emma and her life— even Emma’s and Cole’s first encounter was interesting… but it quickly headed in a direction I just wasn’t feeling.

I don’t mind captor/ captive romance storylines. I can believe the heroine when she starts developing feelings for her captor without it seeming like a case of Stockholm Syndrome. I think it has a lot to do with how well the author has developed her characters and their journey. In this case, it was difficult to believe any in-depth feelings between Emma and Cole because there wasn’t enough development in their relationship. It didn’t come off genuine despite them being mates.

The overall storytelling was choppy that I had a hard time really sinking into the story and connecting with it all. I do still like the overall premise of it— the push and pull of being in a situation where you’re stuck with a stranger that you never would’ve guessed to be your destined mate. It’s told from dual POVs so I at least was able to get an insight to both Emma’s and Cole’s (along with his wolf’s) thoughts about the situation they both found themselves in with one another.

Emma’s personal story is shared relatively early but I thought Cole’s was delved into a little late, so by the end it all seemed to wrap-up a little too abruptly. Putting the storyline aside there is a lot of lust and steamy scenes, and plenty of chasing. If you’re not too fussed with story development and enjoy an occasional bit of smut/ erotica, then this dark little shifter novella might be right up your alley.

You get a good chunk of the wolf shifter elements in this novella, there’s no lacking in Cole shifting from human to wolf and back again, even seeing how Cole and his wolf co-exist. There were a couple of attention-grabbing moments between Emma and Cole that kept me reading to see where their twisted affair would lead to.

Overall, I thought it was an okay read. Some pros and cons. I do enjoy shifter/ fated-mates type romance stories, but I just wasn’t fond of how this particular story played out (especially with all the non-consensual acts included). Not a bad read, it just didn’t end up being my cup of tea. And it hasn’t put me off from possibly reading any more of Darcy Rose’s work in the future! 🙂

A story you can definitely read in one sitting. If you’re a fan of dark shifter romances and have no issues with triggering content, you might like this one.

I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.

Emma had successfully managed to run from a past she would rather forget, but it appears it’s caught up to her and now she is paying a price. After being beaten she awakes in the forest where she is rescued by Cole. Who is this mysterious man?

Cole is a shifter without a pack, he has limited social skills so when he scents his mate he goes about everything wrong. Finding her brutally beaten he takes her back to his cabin, he knows he is going to keep her safe no matter what the cost. But will she accept who he really is?

This is dark romance and definitely has triggers so be warned before you read this book. Fab read with gritty storylines all the way through. Fast paced and intense 4.2* read.

Emma is trying to run from her past but it catches up to her. She’s left alone in the forest and that’s where Cole finds her. His wolf scents her and he saves her. Emma is confused and scared at first but Cole’s instincts help to eventually make her understand and feel their connection.

This novella was good. I love the storyline (shifters) but I feel like if it was a little longer and I felt more of an instant fated mates connection from the characters, it would have hooked me more.

This can be read in one setting, it's slightly longer than a Novella.

Emma is finishing a shift late at night at a bar, when a blast from Emma's past comes in. . She quickly makes her escape out the back way...

But before she can relax she's snatched and thrown into the trunk of a car.
Left alone, arms still tied, battered and bruised, near death, just outside a forest, Cole finds her. His strong sense of smell led him to her and not just because of the blood that's been spilt.

No. Cole knows Emma is his mate.

Cole has been isolated for decades in a cabin he found when he was just a cub. Surviving bu hunting and the trek to the store for essentials he taught himself how to survive. But there's gaps in knowledge. Main one right now is how to explain he's a wolf and to convince Emma she's suppose to stay here with him and love him.

Emma only sees a man keeping her hostage and refusing to let her go. When things start to turn sexual it scares Emma but she can't deny liking it. She tries to run away but she's constantly caught.... But now she knows about the wolf outside she's a bit warier to go out.

Its a game of wits as Emma tries to leave what she sees as a kidnapper keeping her hostage, and for Cole to convince her that she's meant to be with him and to give it a chance.

The click is ticking - As time goes on Emma is more restless and determined to escape and coles wolf is getting less impatient by the hour.

Cole is fighting his wolf and with each hour he's losing control to it. Being told to take her as his mate.. But the human part of Cole doesn't know how......

Until you sit after and analyse your thoughts it can be a bit of a contradictory story. In fact, it's quite simple. We view it as Cole the man, and then Cole the wolf.

This is a pretty dark telling of a shifter romance, but without the adult-level content it's almost fairy tale like!

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos and well constructed sentences. The world building was okay, but I really did not like how the mating bond stole the heroine’s brain and made her instantly happy with her captor. I personally found that mind control element really creepy. The characterization was good for a story of this short length. I really felt for the heroine, and found both her and the hero sympathetic. The development of the romantic relationship was not great. The heroine went from being terrified of the hero to being instantly in love with him after the mate bite, which was really jarring. This novella had a heat level of three chili peppers. The plot was minimal, as expected in a story so short. The pacing was quick, though, because of the well justified angst and high stakes throughout. This story used the Fated Mates trope and the Wild Loner trope. The world building, plot and pacing were three stars. The characterization was four stars and the development of the romantic relationship was three stars. I therefore gave this novella a combined rating of three stars. This story ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a plus. I will not recommend this story, simply because the author has not mastered a believable Happy Ever After ending to a dark romance in under 100 pages yet. I am uninterested in reading any further stories in this series, even though this novella started out strong. I will not buy myself a keeper copy of this story.

I read another quick novella by #DarcyRose ! Yay🥳 And I enjoyed it a lot again! So much that I am sad there isn’t more to it!
After I read the #VowofRevenge series by @authordarcyrose I knew I would read sth else eventually and it has happened.

The characters weren’t as fleshed out as with the novella series I read before, but that was to be expected since we only had 94 pages to get to know these characters. This also doesn’t get a negative rating from me, because before reading any novella one has to be aware that it will be very high level.
That being said I really liked the story even though it was over way too quickly. I can’t really say much about plot and characters without spoiling things, but the fact that I *wanted* more says everything that’s important, right?

What I did like was that there wasn’t the typical instalove involved, though the way feelings did develop was a little… it felt a little forced. I would’ve loved to see how Emma comes around, but not like this. I think with a little more time she could’ve gotten there without… let’s call it “interference”.😂

I also really liked the ending and how things turned out in the end. I am sure there is potential for so much more and I would love to see it… maybe someday?🙈

My heart goes out for Emma in this book she did not have have a good beginning of a life even now she was hiding from her Old foster dad. He would hit and beat her. She thought she was safe as he was in prison. obviously not as he is out as making his way into the Diner she works at. Emma Tries to get out but he’s waiting for outside and before she knows it he’s knocked her out and she’s in the trunk of the car she know she’s in trouble. Emma expect he will kill her tonight. And she’s right she takes one hell of a beating and she’s left there to die but then someone finds her and just when she thinks she’s been saved a whole different problems arise.

This was a really enjoyable read for me I really like Emma and Cole who you meet in this book and changes everything for her. But first she needs to find out if she can trust Cole and what he knows that she doesn’t. After everything that she’s been through can she learn to trust and see what’s in front of her??

This is a novella that could have used a few more chapters to really flesh out what could have been a much better story. Cole is a shifter living alone in the woods since he was a child, without any memory of who he is, where he belongs, and lacking social skills. One night while out hunting, he scents his mate and she needs his help. Emma, a human, was beaten and left for dead by her step-father. Cole takes her home, nurses her back to health, but is unsure of how to proceed. This is where the book could have used more. We dont find out until the end why Cole is alone and his circumstances and learning that earlier, would have made him more sympathetic character, rather than a kinda stalker-ish beast. Just OK, but could have been so much more.

Described in the blurb as short and steamy with dark elements and that is what you'll find in these pages! It starts with danger, violence and intrigue. Emma has been attacked and left for dead when Cole finds her. He (and his inner wolf) knows she's his mate. She knows he is a dangerous stranger. Will Cole be able to gain her trust? Will Emma decide to give in to the bewildering connection between them? The details about what Cole remembers sound realistic, making his character more believable. Emma's actions and reactions are true to who she is. The reader can feel and relate to her level of confusion and fear. I like this story for its dual POV, longing, sizzling chemistry, good plot, revenge and the surprises at the end. A very entertaining paranormal romance!

Cole has had very little interaction with humans, and has lived on his own for a long time, so he doesn't really know what to do with the human mate (Emma) who he finds almost at death's door. Emma has been through enough trauma, and she doesn't really know if Cole is really trustworthy or not. Can Cole win her over? Or will the wolf ruin that? I enjoyed this dark romance, and I liked how everything came together in the end. Emma is easy to like, and not the sort to take advantage of those she cares for. Cole can be a bit demanding (or his wolf can be), and this might make him a bit less lovable to some. if you don't mind a bit of darkness (some of which might not be for everyone), then you might like this.

I really enjoyed this dark fated mates story. It wasn't your usual fated mates story there was no insta love, lust or trust it is built throughout the story. Darcy quickly and effectively builds deep emotional characters that you want to support through their journey together.

The MCs actions were highly questionable likely triggering to some readers... it never came from a place.of darkness or with the need to inflict pain although that was a by product. Due to his life experiences he was unable to know or fully explain to his mate Emma what was going on or needed. Once completed though everything changed and then it was all about healing the past!

This is a fast paced, steamy, multi POV short. It's a great read and an interesting look at fated mates.

I liked this wolf shifter romance. It was original in its approach. Cole is a lone wolf with no pack to show him the proper way to behave as a shifter. Emma is a young woman with a rough past. That past puts her in serious danger, which is when Cole finds her and identifies her as his mate. There is a trigger warning for this book in regard to consent, but given its a dark romance it shouldn’t be a surprise the reader. I really liked the way Darcy writes the ending of this book. The conclusion of things in both Cole’s and Emma’s pasts and the dedication they each find for each other. It’s a good book to read if you like shifters, steam, dark romance, and a great ending.

This is a fast paced, dark and steamy read. It can get intense at times but it was a great read.

Cole has been living in the woods alone for as long as he can remember. The day he catches an enticing scent, throws his world into a tailspin and brings out more of his primitive side.

Emma has a past and when it catches up to her she’s left for dead. When She’s rescued by a mysterious man, who keeps saying she’s his, she doesn’t know what to think….

Emma and Cole had a lot of miscommunication to work out but once they did they were so sweet together. This story was was an interesting take on fated mates.

Lone wolf finds his mate

Great story that definitely has some dark elements. Without a pack to teach him about mating, Cole just goes with his instincts... which may cause a few problems since he doesn't completely listen to those instincts. This story is a standalone, although, I read "I'll be Your Beast" first, and that explained some elements that Cole doesn't know so it was nice to have that extra knowledge. It doesn't detract from the story if you haven't read the other book. Dark elements include: kidnapping, assault, and dubcon. not all by our hero.

The author has a knack for an interesting plot. I enjoyed the flow of it but the moment the H bonds with the h and she’s all of sudden onboard with everything. It seemed off and forced that hardly made any sense considering the previous mentions that she enjoyed what he did…eventually but she yelled no and hated everything about the process. It was odd like he cast a love spell and now she’s enamored with him that nothing else matters. Besides that part, it would have been interesting to get more of the background into the chars to get to know them more. It was a fun read and I like the authors style.

After Emma is left for dead in the middle of nowhere she is found and brought home by Cole, a shifter who is living on his own tucked away from civilisation. Cole knows Emma is his mate but goes about it the wrong way entirely before he can convince Emma and make her feel the same way he does.
I couldn’t help but feel for Cole as he has been left on his own for so long, he never gained the social skills to deal with a girl, let alone his fated mate. This is a short, dark but very engrossing story I very much enjoyed.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Well this book is certainly different. I must say that it definitely includes triggers so if that is something that is not for you then I would not read this, but if that is okay then give it a shot you may like it. We meet Emma who is trying to stay hidden from a horrible evil past foster father who abused her. Things are fine until he shows up at her work one night. She tries to avoid him but the next things she knows she is waking up in his trunk as he drives to the middle of no where. Once he stops things just get worse and he leaves her for dead. Enter Cole a lone wolf shifter who has no memory of his childhood who lives alone in a cabin. He scents her from afar and manages to save her in time. The problem is that he can tell she is his mate but as a human she doesn't really sense anything. Poor Cole has no clue how to tell her so things are pretty rough for a while. I was glad when he finally figured out how to create the bond so things didn't feel so against her will. Made for an intriguingly dark read to say the least. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Speaking of filling…..wait, that’s for later. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! Cole a sexy as all get out lone wolf living in the woods, keeps to himself and does everything in his power to stay away from humans. Emma sweet, working in a dinner to help put herself through school and she put her foster father in jail for abuse. But he was released early and comes in while she is studying, she tries to slip out before he sees her but no such luck he takes her into the woods, beats her, abuse her and leave her for dead. Cole finds her and upon seeing her he knows she is his mate and the more time he spends with her he is livid because she was hurt so badly. Cole won’t stop until her foster father is dead will he make that happen, will they heal each other and can she finally be free and happy?

So this one starts off with intrigue. So lets meet Emma, she is just working and trying to put herself through school. However she has a past that she does not like to relive. Which I don't blame her. So when her past comes back it wants one thing. Revenge, but she is not going to let it get the best of her so she fights as hard as she can. Then we have Cole who seems to be antsy for some reason but doesn't know why. He decides to go for a run when he gets hit with the most alluring smell. These two together seem like they would be a cute couple but the seriously lack communication. That is until the animal decides to take matters into his own hands. What could go wrong? Well this book is intense and Cole is very possessive. This is totally worth reading even though it is fast paced.

This is a new author to me and I will definitely be checking out more of her work!! Emma and Cole happy heartbreaking story and they’ve had to overcome so much from the pasts. Emma is raised in the foster care system and finally she landed with a family that loves her and takes care of her. Cole has been abandoned by his family and forced to live off grid and make the best of it from an early age. Emma‘s past catches up to her in the form of a foster dad hellbent I’m making her pay for the time he spent in jail. Cole finds her once she was abandoned and left for dead but has difficulty communicating with her because he hasn’t had any human interaction for years. Will these to overcome their pasts and make it as a couple? What will Cole do when he finds his past/family hasn’t abandon him?
