Illustrated Step-by-Step Baking Cookbook for Kids and Teens

Rate this book
We created this book for children, but we recommend it for adults as well. It's for those who don't like to read boring bricks of text but prefer to get right down to business, learning skills as they go.

You won't find a book easier to use than this one. Not only does it have illustrated recipes for delicious dishes with concise, detailed descriptions, but it also has important information about the basics of baking that we've simplified and illustrated.

Easy to make. Recipes are broken down into 3 categories of difficulty, but even the most difficult ones are manageable for a child. Most recipes require 3 to 10 ingredients and don't require gourmet ingredients. Chances are you already have everything you need, or you can find it at the nearest supermarket, regardless of the country you live in. In addition, there are substitution options for many of the ingredients. Most recipes require only the most basic cooking utensils. And even for those, there are substitution options: no microwave — make a water bath; no mixer — use a whisk.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Illustrated step by step baking cookbook for kids is an adorable illustrated instructional recipe book for children set out in an easy to follow and read format. The instructions are clear and concise and the choice in the book is amazing.
Each recipe is followed by a page for the child to fill in with information such as when they made that dish, who they made it with, what they would change next time, a star rating, ideas for experiments and a fun fact.
This book is a great starting book for children to help with baking and cooking in a fun way.

This is a cute idea and well executed. I remember when I started baking/cooking and feeling extremely overwhelmed....Imagine Schitt’s Creek when they try to fold in the cheese. This book would have been a godsend.

The recipes are in the simpler side, but the few I tried were tasty just the same. The illustrations are precious and really make everything a lot easier.

Recommend for anybody striking out on their own who doesn’t want to live on ramen and Mac and cheese.

Teaching kids to bake and cook is great fun but usually very messy. Teaching the same skill to teenagers can be a lot of hard work. Do they ever put their phones down?

I found it fun to work with so I'll just add it's good for adults too.

The recipes are easy to follow and the illustrations I found both helpful and at times amusing. I think I'm mimicking the cat now writing this review. Yes, my tongue is sticking out. Hey, it's how I concentrate.

I'd recommend all parents to have this standing by. It's fun, colourful and easy to use.

Enjoy!

What a fantastic children's baking cookbook! According to the author, using as few words as possible is intentional. I'm aware that small children, such as those targeted by the book, grow frustrated when there are a lot of words but little action or imagery.

“This book belongs to Chef ________," states one of the first pages, which will delight children.

The cookbook is separated into parts that provide clear and concise directions and recipes, such as baking basics/safety standards, baking basics/baking language, etc.

There are colorful illustrations of supplies, finished products and difficulty level ratings. The drawings feature an enchanting kitty executing the duties in a basic, yet precise, manner. The kitten will appeal to both youngsters and adults, and it will foster the children’s imagination.

A lovely coloring page picturing the kitten decorating a three-layer cake surrounded by sweets is included at the end of the book.

My 19-month-old granddaughter and I tried out the first and simple dish, a three-ingredient cookie recipe. Naturally, she needed a lot of hands-on guidance. She was, however, eager to help and able to mash the bananas and mix in the premeasured oats. The images were appealing to her. Nonetheless, this is a book that I would recommend for children aged four and up.

I received The Illustrated Step-by-Step Baking Cookbook 1 for Kids from BookSirens. However, I was under no obligation to post a positive review. All opinions are my own.

This is a fantastic resource for children, tweens and teens embarking on their cooking journey.

It is laid out in a simple, easy to follow manner, with both written and pictograph instructions, detailing exactly how long it'll take (prep, rest and cook time), what ingredients and equipment you'll need and provides a review page at the end of each recipe.

There is a comprehensive list of safety rules (again written and illustrated) up front in the book followed by a full baking glossary and equipment lists. I do have a quibble here because the emergency number is 911, which is fine for US audiences, but problematic in the rest of the world.

There is a nice breakdown at the end of the book showing cooking times, suggesting occasions for each of the recipes and outlining measurement conventions. The occasions do suggest recipes that are "more suitable" for girls or boys (possibly for parties?), and quite frankly they could have omitted these columns. Food isn't gendered, and shouldn't be. Boys can enjoy blueberry tarts just as much as girls can enjoy chocolate chip cookies! It's this sort of thing that could turn a boy off cooking.

The recipes themselves are clear and easy to follow, and I look forward to cooking up a storm with my kids.

4 stars. They lost a point for the gendering of food.

~Many thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.~

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.

This cookbook is aimed towards children but a lot of the recipes seem to be quite advanced. I enjoyed reading this cookbook because of its adorable and thought-out illustrations and touches. There is a space near the front to write your name which is quite cute :)

I enjoyed the baking basics section, especially the safety rules and if something went wrong. Very important information for people to know when baking. Baking language and how to measure sections are also great and very useful.

This cookbook is filled with adorable and detail-oriented illustrations. Safety is a priority in this book as there are several illustrations included dedicated to it including caution signs and ask for adult help, etc.

I noticed the vegetable peeler does not say caution which I found interesting. Maybe the illustrator/author missed that.

The recipes let you know the prep time, baking time, resting, and yield which is very useful when planning to bake.

There is a notes and fun fact section after each recipe, which comes in very useful when experimenting with recipes. There are also ideas for experimenting included which encourage children and readers alike to play around with recipes and to have fun.

The instructions are simple to follow but very much effective. There are also several informative illustrations showing people how to do things.

Measurements are in grams and ounces which is useful but also requires readers to convert to measuring cups and spoons if they do not have a kitchen scale. Not the most accessible. I do appreciate the weight in grams though. The back of the book has a conversion chart but still, would also have appreciated measurements in cups and spoons as well.

There seems to be plenty of alternatives for things such as mixers or using a whisk instead, etc. Nice to see as not all children may have the appropriate equipment needed.

The photographs are beautiful but the pages are all a light brown. I wish there was a bit more colour, perhaps pastels. This strikes me as odd because children’s books typically are more colourful.

The recipes have suggestions such as good for Valentine’s Day when looking at the rose cupcakes. There is an occasions chart in the back of the book with many occasions, sparking inspiration!

I noticed that the Some Ingredients section only has one recipe, which was pizza dough. This could definitely be placed under the bread section.

The colouring page at the very end was cute but didn’t have the same style as the illustrations in the cookbook. Was a little disappointed by that.

Finally, I feel like this book was missing a conclusion to round it up. Maybe a simple message such as I hope you enjoyed or just something. It felt like there was no final ending after the last recipe.

Overall, a cute cooking book that could be a lot better with some changes as aforementioned. Especially the colours. It feels very dull to look at.

Everyone should know how to cook. Any child that's able to reach the kitchen countertop (stepstools help!) and has the dexterity to use measuring cups and stirring spoons should be spending time in the kitchen, gaining knowledge and skills that will serve them for a lifetime. This cookbook is a great place to start. While it's large enough to serve as the aforementioned stepstool, it's not intimidating. The soothing color scheme sets a tone of relaxation. The use of simple drawings and pleasant photographs helps keep the tone upbeat and expectations reasonable. A free gift offered at the beginning of the book helps build a relationship between the author and the child.

We start with baking basics, where the child will learn how to prepare to cook, how to cook safely, how to measure, and will be taught the terminology that will be used in the recipes. Each recipe begins with an ingredient count number and difficulty level, as well as preptime, baking, resting and yield numbers. A photograph of what the finished product should look like gives the child a mental image to strive for. After that, everything is explained step-by-step in cute little drawings a child will feel comfortable with. After each recipe comes a review page, where the child is encouraged to rate the recipe on a five star system, and make notes about what they might change, ideas for experimenting, and who helped.

The one thing I would change about this cookbook would be the overabundance of sweet recipes. There's plenty of cookies, cakes, muffins, pastries, but only four bread recipes, and a 'savory and salty' category which contains five recipes, three of which are pizza. Surely a child can bake a potato, assemble a casserole, or season a fish filet to bake in a toaster oven. And shouldn't we be teaching them that there's more for dinner than pizza?

All in all, I would love to have received this book as a child. It would have prepared me for life on my own much better than my little Easy-Bake oven did!

My thanks to author Skye Wade, BooksGoSocial, and NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital advance review copy of this book. This review is my honest and unbiased opinion.

This baking cookery book is aimed at children and teens with sixty recipes to choose from.

It has plenty of different types of recipes to chose from and is divided into eight sections plus an Introduction (no of recipes):
- Cookies and Bars (14)
- Cakes (18)
- Cupcakes (5)
- Muffins (4)
- Pastries (5)
- Breads (4)
- Savoury and Salty (5)
- Making Ingredients (5)

The introduction includes the basics such as following the steps, safety, baking terms and how to measure. There are illustrations to accompany this section.

Alongside a photograph of the finished recipe, it states the number of ingredients required, preparation, cooking and resting times, difficulty, and the number of servings. The ingredients are set out horizontally with an illustration of the ingredient along with its metric and imperial measurement. Illustrations are also included with the equipment required so too do the steps of the recipe. Some of the illustrations also include a kawaii type of cat doing the actions - so cute!

At the end of each recipe, there is a notes page that includes space to put your rating out of 5 stars, the cooking date, who helped, what you would change, and ideas for experiments (some of which are already completed for you).

Some of the bakes do not have a resting time, but it's slightly misleading because they do include in the instruction time for it to cool in the pan and not all bakes can be eaten hot. I struggled to see the writing under the recipe steps. I can't quite tell if it's 3/4 or a 1/2 of an ingredient that is used at one point, it's that small.

At the rear of the book is a list of the recipes split into cooking times, plus a page of occasions for each recipe and there is also a colouring page of the kawaii cat amongst cakes.

Even though this book is said to be aimed at teens, the addition of the illustrations throughout the book has more of a feel for the pre-teen and younger children.

I received this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.

I received a free e-ARC from the author/publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was an absolutely delightful cookbook for children and teens (and adults too!) It was presented beautifully, and the layout was simple and easy to follow.
It begins with basic tools used in the kitchen as well as safety tips, which I thought was a great addition. Each chapter begins with a beautiful full colour photograph, then is followed by the recipes, which are all illustrated from start to finish, including illustrations of the ingredients and equipment that will be used in the recipe. It covers a range of baked goods, such as cookies, cakes, and bre. It also includes a page to review the recipe, and note any changes you have made, or would like to experiment with later.
My only quibble is that it felt like there weren't enough recipes. In chapter 8 'Savory & Salty' there is only a single recipe for Margherita pizza, and chapter 9 'Some Ingredients' only had a pizza base recipe. The same is true for the chapters about muffins, pastries and breads. The inclusion of a few more recipes in each of those chapters would have made this book a 5 star for me. Off the top of my head, I probably would have added some savoury pies, another couple of pizzas (maybe even a dessert pizza), some basic breads (like sourdough, focaccia, naan), a few muffin variations (like blueberry), and perhaps a vanilla slice to the pastry section. I'd also probably rename the 'Some Ingredients' chapter to 'Basic Recipes', and included a bread, sponge cake, butter cake, pancake, and donut recipe. I'd also possibly include how to make basic pastries, like rough puff and shortcrust. I think this would allow for a lot more experimentation and scope, especially if provided with some suggestions.
On the whole, a cute, easy to follow cookbook. I know a lot of people who would adore this style of book, so I only wish there were more recipes.

Everybody seems to be busier than ever, and few people have time to teach their children how to cook and bake while juggling work and pressing responsibilities. Illustrated Step-by-Step Baking Cookbook for Kids: 60 easy and delicious recipes by Skye Wade, is one of the cutest and best cookbooks out there for kids. The recipes, however, are great for both kids and adults. This excellent cookbook has great recipes that everyone will want to make, with step-by-step instructions with cute illustrations that will definitely appeal to kids. The cookbook emphasizes the importance of having an adult present, which is essential, but some of the recipes are easy enough for older kids to make on their own as long as there is an adult in the house.

Rather than written recipes in the traditional way, these recipes have very easy-to-follow illustrations with simple prose. The first chapter is devoted to basics and includes basic cooking terms, safety rules, and instructions for measuring. That chapter is important for introducing good baking skills for children. It is also a good reminder for adults who may not have developed good baking skills.

One of the most important elements in a good cookbook, and especially in a children’s book is photographs, and in this cookbook there is a beautiful photograph of every recipe.

Anyone with children should pick up this excellent cookbook; it includes mouthwatering recipes, great information on building good baking skills, and even places to put notes. This will be the cookbook that kids will use whenever they want a good treat, and one that they will take with them after they are grown. The price is a bit steep, but most families will find it’s worth it.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

A lovely, extremely well organised and structured recipe book!
I fell in love with it after flipping just a few pages.

The illustrations are more than cute, and clearly explanatory. The entire concept is highly intuitive and aiming for efficient simplicity. It is perfect even for the users less skilled in cooking, such as myself.
The instructions are clear and all steps of the cooking process are neatly outlined.
Besides the neat ingredient list, each recipe is provided with its own Equipment list, which simplifies preparations for the young cooks and their parents.
Each dish has a note that includes details or trivia, making for a fun and interesting read during the cooking or baking process.
Each recipe is followed by a rating sheet entitled "Notes". Children can colour 1-5 stars, add the date when they first tried the recipe, who they worked with, add personal details concerning their experience, or come up with suggestions to improve the recipe.
My 10-year-old has enjoyed our cooking moments inspired by this book. We are not native English speakers, so the Baking language glossary was very helpful, with its clear explanations and perfectly designed illustrations. (Our favourites so far are the Impossible quiche and the Banana bread.)
The Safety rules section was a wonderful addition, a useful part to start with, which we patiently perused and went on to discuss potential scenarios when the rules are not followed. :-)
I highly recommend the book and am looking forward to a new release focused more on savoury and main-meal dishes rather than desserts.
The kitten-themed drawings make the book even more appealing and user-friendly.
Give it a try and it will become your favourite cook book.

I can’t even. This book is so cute - I love the little cat, hard at work in the kitchen with its tongue sticking out. I love how this book was laid out, from the illustrated glossary, to the cookie rating of how hard the recipe will be. Each recipe was easy and fun to follow. I loved the section at the end of each recipe where you can make notes, suggestions for experiments, and fun facts about ingredients being used. I also appreciate that there is a picture of the finished project before every recipe. This is usually the thing I am annoyed about most in adult baking books! I want to see what I’m trying to make!

There are so many thoughtful touches in this book and I loved them all, including the index with the recipes broken down by time so bakers can quickly find something they can bake in the time frame they have. There is also a great index for bakes by occasion.

As an adult who enjoys doing easy bakes, I will definitely be making some of these treats! I would also recommend this book to parents who have a budding baker in the house. While there is a section in this book for “Savory and Salty” which includes things that can be made for dinner, such as pizza or quiche, it would be wonderful to see a version of this book by the same creator with all lunch/dinner options!

I received a free ARC from NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a very nice book which will help adults and kids together to explore the world of baking. The book is appealing for children with its simple, colourful and friendly presentation. The recipes are clearly marked with the degree of difficulty and a clear indication of the preparation time. A handy overview at the end of the book organises the recipe per preparation time so it is possible to decide what to bake depending on how much time is available. The ingredients are always simple and easy to find in regular shops.
I really liked the illustrations and the good step by step instructions. A little kitten helps out here and there and shows the child what to do. He is very cute.
I really liked the fact that the book also introduces useful baking knowledge to our little bakers: they learn the baking language, how to measure the ingredients, quite a number of good safety advice, and a really nice set of steps to follow when baking from washing their hands to putting everything back in its place, cleaning the kitchen and, of course, enjoying their food. The book has space for kids and parents to make notes under each recipe if there is something they need to keep in mind for next time.
A very nice little book to initiate kids to the pleasure of home baking.

Skye Wade's Illustrated Step-by-Step Baking Cookbook for Kids and Teens has 60 mostly baking recipes divided into seven sections (cookies and bars, cakes, cupcakes, muffins, pastries, breads, and savory and salty). Each recipe has an illustrated ingredients list and instructions with an cartoon cat modeling the required steps. The introduction describes the goal of the work to use pictures and as "few words as possible," which is great for beginning cooks, but the illustrations are a bit unclear at points. For example, the precooking instructions have an illustration of a red circle with a line through it with the captain: "Read the Safety Rules!", which seems to imply that you should not read the safety rules. Beyond the ambiguity at some points, the book is very cute and approachable for younger cooks. Recipes are broken down in to simple steps and an "! Adult Help" or "CAREFUL!" icon is placed next to any step that may be unsafe. Each recipe is followed by a notes section for the cook to rate their experience making the recipe, when they cooked it, and what they might change in the future.

This was published June 25th 2021. I received an eARC from Net Galley for review.

I love the font in this book. It’s easy to read for a young person.

The table of contents has a beginning section on baking basics. This chapter has an outline of steps to take to prepare for baking. Also rules for safety which are nicely outlined. Baking terms are listed with little illustrations for each term. And you can’t forget a section on how to measure!

Each chapter is divided into cookies/bars, cakes, cupcakes, muffins, pastries and breads. This makes the cookbook easy to use.

At the beginning of each chapter are colorful photos of what to expect to bake.

For each recipe there is a list of how many ingredients and a rating for how difficult the recipe is. There is an ingredient list with illustrations and an equipment list as well.

Throughout each recipe are simple instructions with illustrations of what to do. I enjoyed the illustrations. They add to the understanding of how to do each step in the recipe.

At the end of each recipe, the young cook can write a journal of how good it was, when they made the recipe, ideas for changes, etc. this is a really good idea!

At the end of the book there is an index listing each recipe by how long it takes to cook. Recipes are also broken down to what they are good for like a birthday, snack or picnic etc.

There is also a free downloadable how to draw tutorial at the beginning of the book and a collection of 12 best ever smoothie recipes for a gift as well at the end.

In conclusion I think this is a well-thought-out cook book. It is very colorful and eye-catching plus easy to use for reading with the nice illustrations. A large variety of recipes that are easy to make and some that are a little more difficult to challenge a young baker.

I believe this is a very kid friendly book. When I had children I enjoyed baking with my children! I hope this book will give lots of hours of baking fun for those who want to bake with their children!

I have a grandson who this book will be perfect for. He is nine years old. With some help from his mom I think he will learn to find his way around the kitchen and learn how to follow a recipe.

* Received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you very much! This doesn’t affect the review in any way. My opinions are, as always, my own.*

This is such a cute idea! Especially for kids the images of what to do really help, but even for adults, how can anyone resist the cuteness, right?

Doesn't it make it look A LOT easier for kids? I would have loved something like this when I was about 11-14 when every book seemed so far from my reach. Especially when recipes don't have photos, I'm still not a fan! Cookbooks should always have pictures accompanying each recipe, right?

The book is all with color and images. It's simple, appealing, and a lot of fun. It comes with an index of what each image means, level of difficulty, safety rules, how to measure things, and more.

As for the recipes it has quite many cookies and bars, cakes, cupcakes, muffins, pastries, bread, savory/salty snacks, and how to do some ingredients that you might need if you don't have.

I loved the cat drawings and I can't wait to try out some of the recipes!

Cute baking cookbook for younger children. Cooking terms like sift, fold and knead have icons to show the actions used. There are basic rules for safety and food handling as well. The recipes include a color photo, difficulty rating, step by step directions and total estimated time to make each item. After each recipe there is a page for the cook to add notes and ratings. I often adjust cookbook recipes and find this useful. I wish the cover was more colorful to make it more appealing. The cute animals illustrations continue inside the book which will appeal to younger children (but I doubt teens will be attracted).

I didn't mark the book down but my ARC digital copy was not complete. Four breads were listed but I was only shown one. Page numbers jumped by 20 and more pages at times. My elementary school library carries several cookbooks and I think younger cooks will enjoy baking with this book (with parental help). Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a temporary ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Ideal book for those little ones who are just beginning to learn to cook or make recipes, even for teenagers. Also for those parents who want to have a moment in the kitchen with their little children. I would have loved to have such a lovely book like this when I was younger to cook some of this amazing recipes. The design is quite simple and the explanations are not complex at all, the images of the recipes are very good and the drawings to indicate the steps are very adorable and you really want to cook like that; I will try one of the recipes with my little cousin and I am sure he will like to cook with the recipes of this book a lot! It is very good that just when you finish making a recipe, and before moving on to the next one, there is a page where you can write down the stars that you give and everything that the children want to say about the recipe after they have finished it. Highly recommended!

I love the idea, and its super cute, perfect for rainy days with your small people. The pictures are really easy to follow and I love the little touches like the star rating for difficulty and the measurements being in a couple of different units. The section at the end of each bake allowing you to record ideas and your own star rating was also adorable.

I can't really rate it higher than 2 stars though based on the weird table that categorises the bakes as 'for girls' or 'for boys', with almost everything being labelled as for girls and not very much being labelled as for boys. Firstly I can't fathom what makes any of the bakes specifically needing to apply to only one sex?! Secondly, I don't see the relevance to need to put that in at all, even if there was bright pink frosting on half the bakes (which there isn't at all) it's still cake that can be enjoyed by anyone and everyone?! Who knew Lemon Cheesecake was just for girls, I better go break the bad news to my husband...

This book is adorable! I absolutely LOVE the cute illustrations, the pictures to show what each piece of equipment is is really good at getting kids to understand, and the sheer number of pictures throughout the book really helps to make things clear - especially as these are done in a beautiful cartoon style drawing that kids will love. The recipes sound beautiful, and the few I've managed to try so far have been really simple and delicious, without taking too long, all of which further makes this a perfect starting point for introducing children to baking.

My only criticism of this book would be to argue that it is less suited to the teenage population than to younger readers. Whilst the gorgeously cute cartoon imagery, as well as the sweet "what did I do/ who helped" section at the end of each recipe is perfect for younger children, I would argue that older kids and especially teens may find this condescending, unless given as an ironic present to help get them into baking.

Re-Read Factor: No

A wonderful illustrated guide for children, teens, and adults alike interested in baking at large. It is structured into three main parts: safety, recipes, and index. Geared towards the younger side of the age spectrum, it ensures that children understand that they should have an adult with them when using a stove, sharp utensils, and so forth. It also includes culinary terminology like "knead" and "sift" with icons for what each action entails. Although I have not baked any of the items myself, I found the instructions clear, aesthetically pleasing, and easy for anyone of any age to follow. After each recipe, there is a page where the reader can rate the recipe, how they would alter it for next time, and room for experimentation. Finally, the index includes conversion factors, recipes divided by hours to complete, and a final coloring page.

This cookbook has recipes that kids are likely to enjoy. Recipes are presented in few words and instructions are accompanied with small graphics. Kids who are visual learners will likely appreciate this format. All recipes indicate which steps require help from an adult (chopping, using the oven, and pouring hot liquids). In the macaron recipe, kids are told to separate eggs by scooping yolks out of the bowl with their hands. I think the proper method of separating an egg should have been shown. One feature I really like is that each recipe has a notes page where bakers can write down what they liked about the recipe and what they might change if they made it again. This book feels most appropriate for kids under the age of ten. I don't think teens will like the cat illustrations or the coloring page at the end.

I like the images on the cover and the same style and cat goes through the book cooking/baking the food. I also love that fact that each recipe has a page dedicated to taking notes and to review the recipe after baking it. I was able to do the crumbly snowball cookies and that's when I run into trouble. The crumbly snowball cookies don't state the approximate size the balls need to be before baking, I used a cookie scooper and turns out they were too big. I ended up baking them for 56 minutes instead of the 40 stated in the recipe. The final result was ok, did not loved them, but maybe they needed to be smaller in order to bake correctly. All in all, I believe this can be a nice book for someone that is starting to bake, and for someone that will appreciate the designs and illustrations.

On the plus side, I did take the cookies to work and people said they liked it.

Small and basic. I did like the illustrations but there are very few recipes and some aren’t classified properly.

I really wanted to be wowed by this cookbook as my son and myself collect cookbooks. I personally won’t buy this one because of how lacking it is, BUT if you have a little one that’s just starting to stand on the still while you bake, this may be perfect. This may even be perfect for those with disabilities learning to do things on their own.

This book would be perfect in print as the digital cookies don’t lend themselves to easy navigation or reading. You can’t swipe the pages, but they will change if you tap them. Also, it doesn’t allow landscape reading, so it very hard to read as the font is tiny.

I love pretty much everything about this little cookbook! Not only does it have simple but sophisticated recipes for children, it also has the CUTEST illustrations of a CAT COOKING said recipes!!!
The steps, ingredients, and equipment needed are all illustrated. I think this not only adds an element of fun for beginning cooks, but also makes it a bit easier to comprehend. The layout is concise and easy to follow. I’m very much in favor of the addition of a “notes” page at the end of every recipe.
The only thing I would change is the number of recipes behind certain “categories”. For instance, there are only one or two recipes under each section in some cases.
But overall this cookbook would be a wonderful edition to any library. We will definitely be purchasing!

This is a fantastic family friendly cook book. There is a great variety of recipes for children to make but what makes this cookbook stand out from other children’s cookbooks are two thing. The first is that all instructions given are using illustrations, making it accessible for all ages and easy to engage with. The second is that each recipe note section - a page where you can rate the recipe, say when you made it and with whom and even a section to brainstorm ideas on how to tweek the recipe for next time. If that wasn’t enough there is also colouring sheets in the back. This is a cookbook that belongs in all family kitchens.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest opinion.

This cookbook is okay....I didn't love it nearly as much as I had hoped though. The cutesy character illustrations on the front are used throughout and it makes it a lot harder to follow instructions than actual step by step live pictures. The recipes themselves are fairly basic go tos, but they contain a lot of sugar. They are not recipes I would want my kids to make since they contain no health benefits and so much sugar. However, the pictures of the recipes do look quite good and I know some people have no problem with sugary desserts, so while it didn't appeal to me, I think there is certainly a niche that would love this.

This is a great beginning cooking book for families. The book uses both words and pictures so nonreaders can also use this book. It shows the ingredients with pictures and the amount of needed, then pictures of the equipment needed. Then step by step pictorial directions. This is a great book for kids and adults that are learning to cook. There's even advanced recipes like Macarons. I need to keep this one in mind because I have always wanted to learn how to make them. There's mainly cookies, cakes, muffins and bread but there is also pizza. You know all the stuff that kids like to eat. This cookbook could help families bake together and have some great family memories together.

This cookbook has a fun and fresh design that will appeal to children of all ages, and some adults too!

Instead of blocks of text this cookbook features beautifully illustrated drawings of the ingredients, equipment and step by step instructions needed to make each recipe.

The concise nature of the book is perfect for budding bakers who want to get their hands dirty and straight into the baking. Each recipes includes a photograph of the finished item which I always appreciate in a cookbook, and there really is something for everyone included in this cookbook - the only problem is choosing which one to make first!

Illustrated Step-by-Step Baking Cookbook for Kids and Teens by Skye Wade is such an amazing cookbook. I was not that excited to examine this book because I felt that the cover was off-putting. However, the inside of this book definitely makes up for the cover. Inside, kids will find recipes they love along with beautiful color photographs and step by step instructions with drawings to illustrate them. It is such an easy format to follow and I think that would work well with kids of many different ages. Great book overall. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
